The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Upside down. Sideways. Right side up? Maybeeeee? No. Sideways. Upside down. Sideways.
No matter which way she held the book, it didn't get any easier.
Maybe if she was the one rolling around— Kalos glanced up from her beanbag chair near the front desk of the library. She wanted a quick exit to be possible. The moment she was done, she was going to RAMPAGE LIKE A MINOTAUR back to the kitchen. A quick look over the side edge of her book did not encourage her. The other children sprinkled around the massive book room were reading or talking in small groups over papers. They made it look easy and that made her want to shrink down so small until she could disappear.
> "If you'll just focus, I know you can do it. You were reading okay yesterday."
She refocused on her tutor's face and fast realized that she must have made a scary reply with her features. Jameson, her mildly empathic tutor for the weekend, started backpedaling right away.
> "I mean, you are smart. Really smart. And they're just letters, which you already know, right?"
"I know the letters." Like that one that looked like two poles with a line to connect them? That was aech. She puffed out a sigh.
> "That's right. Sound it out starting from the first letter. Heeeee-" He took her finger by the hardened stone tip and pointed her at the start of the letters, dragging her finger and by proxy her eyes, along to the end of the first over large word.
"Heeeeilllllllllluuuuuooooo."
> "Yes! Yes! You got it! 'Hello!' and next?"
Miserably she flipped forward a few pages. How long was this stupid baby book?
Sometimes, people needed rescuing from burning buildings. Sometimes, people needed rescuing from books.
Kalos had been making a good effort. She learned a lot of things about the modern world outside Atlantis; she learned about clothes, foods, pets, and, most of all, school. She was making decent progress in reading, as well as other subjects... but Mirror could not help but be a little biased about the coral girl. Did she really need to study quite that much, especially in the summer? Sure, she had catching up to do, but she was a kid, and it was summer...
Gawain inched in through the library door, glancing around at quiet reading or whispering children until he spotted the little pink figure. She was looking at a book, and did not look very pleased about it.
"Hey there" Gawain waved with his most charming smile "Can I borrow Kalos for a bit?"
He was turning the pages back to the front. HER GAMBIT HAD FAILED. THERE WERE NO SHORTCUTS!
Until the heavens opened up and the voice of an angel came to declare her free.
> "Hey there"
"GAWAIIIIIN!" Her excitement came out of her mouth all at once and nearly everyone in the library, possibly the entire Mansion, was aware that Kalos had spoken. She flushed a deep purple, but did not hide behind the book. The book was tossed at her tutor. Her tutor knew where it belonged.
> "Can I borrow Kalos for a bit?"
"Yes. You may." She answered before Jameson could. Because that was the only correct answer. "Please. Yes. Thank you."
Gawain was greeted by someone squealing his name at a deafening volume. People in the library looked up, some of them hissed, and the librarian looked ready to get a heart attack. All of that left Kalos unfazed as she jumped up to greet him.
>>"Yes. You may. Please. Yes. Thank you."
Gawain bit back a laugh as he waved to the tutor.
"It's very important. She'll be back soon."
Or she wouldn't. Gawain was sure the tutor could also use an afternoon off. Taking Kalos by the hand he walked her out of the library, and waited until they were out of earshot before he grinned at his little sister.
Very Important usually was a code phrase meaning food. Very little was as important as food. Kalos was ready to jump into Gawain's arms and have him carry her, but she was offered a hand. She should take the hand. She would just do it a bit grudgingly and with a sigh.
The little coral girl didn't even look back as they exited the library. From the moment Gawain showed up, he was the sun she orbited around.
> "I thought you needed a rescue..."
"You are my hero." She very nearly melted right then and right there. "Is your very important have a plan? Or did you miss me?" Actually, where had her brother-sister been lately? Probably chasing some bad guy. Saving young damsels. The usual. Kalos just felt isolated sometimes since her interests did not at all overlap those of her peers and since she still had so much academic catching up to accomplish.
She tugged Gawain around the administrative hall so that no one would see them escaping. "I missed you." She admitted to her hero's hand. "But only a little!"
>>"You are my hero. Is your very important have a plan? Or did you miss me?"
Sometimes it was easier to be a hero than other times. Sometimes it was burning buildings and crazy psychics, but other times, it was taking a little sister out to lunch. Gawain grinned as they turned the corner.
>>"I missed you. But only a little!"
"I missed you a little too, Pink" he chuckled, picking up the coral girl for a hug. She was just so darn huggable. "And I have like... 12% of a rescue plan. We should definitely find food, hm?"
