The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Personality: Rayne is happy, a bit on the shy side. She owns an animal shelter/supply store, and prefers animals to people because, as she often says, “Animals don’t talk back.” Because of her mutation, she can be very self-conscious, and she is often assumed to be snobbish by newcomers because of her shyness. But those who take the time to get to know her find both a warm heart and bubbly persona behind the shy eyes. However, her animals are her priority, and she will not tolerate one whom she feels to be unsuitable for their care. She can often be found staring into space, stroking a bird or cat, totally lost in thought. Because of the variety of her powers, she can also appear very ditzy.
Hobbies: Animals and plants. She is personally owned by a Siamese cat (Ebony), a Senegal Parrot (Max) and a Chameleon (Cammie), and cares for anywhere from 50-200 various others at a time. She lives on a ranch-turned-shelter, and has an Bird and Butterfly garden in her indoor/outdoor greenhouse.
Phobias: She has no phobias, per-se, but she does tend to be a bit obsessive about finishing any task she begins or objective she sets. Due to recent events (See History) Rayne has developed mild claustrophobia. She doesn't mind small spaces, as long as there is a window or door somewhere that SHE can open. (Elevator rides are fine if they are quick, as are small locked rooms, IF she has the key.) She tends to shy away from human companionship, not realizing that only another human can fill the void she sometimes feels inside her at night.
Side (good, bad, or neutral): Good
Everyday clothing: Usually faded jeans and T-shirts, or anything else that is comfortable and practical for her dirty job, and that will hide the stones imbedded in her back.
Uniform (optional;if you become an X-Man, your uniform will receive an X-Men logo): Despite being definitely good, she doesn't have a desire to be an Xman right now.
(The Shades of Iris)
Pajamas: Whatever’s comfortable
Hair color and style: Normally blond, kept on the short side to reduce the need for styling, though it tends to be a bit on the wild-side. When under the stones’ powers, the color changes accordingly.
Eye color: Normally an odd gray-blue, like her namesake. When under the stones’ powers, the color changes accordingly.
Height: 6'0'
Build: Slim in build, hiding a muscular strength built up over years of working on a ranch. She can usually keep pace with most men, but has a figure that most women would envy. But she keeps it well hidden beneath baggy shirts and jeans.
Scars: Various claw and bite marks. Can’t work with animals without getting bitten, right?
Tattoos: On her back are ten colored circles, each the size of a dime, arranged in a target-type pattern; five in the outer circle, four in the inner circle, and one as the bulls-eye. Embedded in six of the circles are gemstones of corresponding color. (See Ability Description)
Piercings: Single-pierced ears
Description of ability(ies): Can absorb one of 6 types of gems/stones, resulting in various elemental-type abilities; each stone also has a (usually adverse) effect on an aspect of Rayne’s personality. ~~ Aquamarine (Blue) ~~ Creates ice crystals in various shapes (ie, spears, daggers, shield, etc.);Recently she found she can freeze things other than water, but she has very, very little control over it at the moment (updated 5/13/07); affects self-consciousness ~~ Tanzanite (Violet) ~~ Allow manipulation of liquids, though not creation, and only in small amounts; affects calmness ~~ Onyx (Black) ~~ Absorbs light, allowing sight in dark areas; affects confidence. Also allows Rayne to become a living shadow. Her physical form becomes shapeless, and she can move along any surface, as if made of liquid.(Updated 2/18/08) ~~ Gypsum (White) ~~ Deflects light, allowing sight in bright areas; affects confidence ~~ Opal (Iridescent) ~~ Allows bending and manipulation of sound barriers into a sort of ‘sound storm’. Sound waves raise and lower in decibels, creating what sounds like a rushing windstorm, in the area directly around her body (about 3 to 5 feet). It can crush certain objects (i.e., the hillside in her nightmares (see History)). While this power is in use, Iris loses her hearing completely. This gem makes her apathetic (devoid of emotion.) ~~ Diamond/Crystal (Clear) ~~ Allows Iris to use all abilities from the other 5 gems at once, and simultaneously; affects aggression. Because of the lack of control, this is now the most dangerous of her abilities.
There are places for four more stones of different colors, but they are to be developed at a later time, after quite a bit of self-discovery.
Cons (weaknesses) of ability(ies): Only one gem/stone can be used at a given time. She tried several combinations, but the stones remained dormant. As each stone allows a certain element, when using a gem/stone she becomes vulnerable to that element’s opposite. For example, when using the black stone to see in the dark, sudden brightness will blind her, and visa-versa. Also, each stone can only be used for a short period of time, seventy-one minutes, to be exact. This time never changes and can't be altered. The time the stone is used is also the time it takes for it to regenerate its power. For example, if she uses the blue stone for ten minutes, it takes ten minutes more before she can use it again. Also, she cannot switch directly from one stone to another; it takes exactly four minutes (again, unchangeable) to deactivate one stone, allow her body to recalibrete, then activate another stone, during which time she is vulnerable to attack. Also each element magnifies a certain personality trait, which may or may not cause problems (it usually does). For example, when using the violet stone, she becomes very calm and easy-going, but if it is used too long, she will become lazy and sluggish. Not good when you need to be dodging a blaster attack. Also, some gems (Tanzanite, Opal and Crystal) are stress-related. If she is over stressed or scared, her mutation will kick in on its own. Basically she's a study in multiple personalities (lol).
The clear gem is unique, as it is more 'con' than 'pro'. Because of the timing of the implant, the gem bonded with bits of Haywire's DNA still left in Iris's body when it was absorbed. Because of this, when the jewel is active, all of the flaws of the original 5 gems are present and magnified, in effect warring with each other for control of her mind. They are NOT multiple personalities, but that's how it may come across to anyone looking on, as she will alternate, unpredictably, between emotions and reactions mid-battle. In effect she has a mini emotional breakdown. Also, the gem makes her more aggressive, not to the point that she will initiate a battle, but she won't hesitate to return fire.
Finally, her body can only handle this gem's power for 30 minutes, as opposed to 71 minutes for the others, before rejecting it. Also, it takes longer for her body to reset afterwards, another 30 minutes, as opposed to 4 for the others. Once the mutation is activated, Iris can't deactivate it on her own, not yet. It must run the entire 30 minute course. All the way around, using this power is risky, draining, and unpredictable.
One flaw that was NOT transfered was the lack of hearing; Iris can now hear the sound storm, though it doesn't affect her. She is also conscious of what she is doing, though depending on her current emotions, she may not care.
The new onyx power doesn't work except in dim lighting or darkness. Since it is a new power, she has little control, and it requires extreme concentration. Any distraction will result in the 'living shadow' reforming into her normal body. She cannot teleport, or interact in anyway with anyone else while in shadow form. (Updated 2/18/08
Fighting style (if any): Depends on the gem used; not trained in any particular art, though her throwing aim is near perfect. Also, she prefers not to fight at all, but it is very possible to 'scare' her into it, as some gems may activate on their own.
History of your character: Her earliest memory is of being cold and wet, crying her heart out in the mountain forests of the Rocky Mountains. She looked to be about five or six years old. She sat beneath a tree as it rained, soaking her to the skin. She remembered feeling something warm and itchy on her back, near her shoulder, then she felt angry at the rain, and wished it would leave her alone. Suddenly it did; it still rained down around her, but rain wasn’t touching her. It fell in a curtain around her. Not long afterward she came upon a house in the woods, and took shelter in a nearby stable. She felt safe among the animals, and fell asleep in a pile of saddleblankets. The owner of the stable and house turned out to be a couple in their fifties, a brother and sister. The pair took her in, and raised her as their own, naming her Rayne for both the color of her eyes, and the weather she seemed to appear out of. They were amazed at the odd pattern on the child’s back, and of the various stones, seemingly imbedded in there. The years amazed them more as she grew and the power of the stones became known. They saw her attraction to nature’s creatures, and knowing the current feelings toward mutants that overshadowed the present world, they worked to cultivate her attraction as she grew. The animals would give her companionship where humans failed. They also did their best to warn her of the dangers to both her an the world if it ever became public knowledge what she was. Of course, several ‘mishaps’ were bound to happen; after all she was just a child. But despite a few ‘rough periods’, she grew to be a rather stable, if somewhat introverted, young woman. She doesn’t actively use her powers to ‘save the world’, but trouble does have a knack of finding her, and forcing her out. Most of her childhood memories are vague and shapeless, more feelings than visions. However, Rayne does have one crystal clear memory.
Recent History: After locating the Xavier School, and speaking with the headmistress (and a bit of scheming on the homefront by her guardians), Rayne took up residence at the Mansion. She had the chance to test her limits in the Danger Room, with the aid of her hologram training program, Crystal. She made several new friends, and settled in fairly well.
And, as usual, found herself in trouble again. Kidnapped by the Order, she was exposed to a mutant nicknamed Haywire, and did just that. She was released back to the Mansion, but with a dose of Haywire's blood to make her go berserk. The Mansion suffered quite a bit of damage as a result. Fortunately her friends realized something was wrong, and came together to help her regain control.
Not long after, she was kidnapped again, this time by a man named Hunter Antonescu. After another round of experimentation and going berserk, Rayne discovered that she is the result of a genetic experiment, nicknamed 'Paragon', started by Hunter. Rayne shares bits of Hunter's DNA, mixed with human DNA, essentially making her his daughter. The project objective was to create a perfect mutant soldier, one that could use various elemental powers at the same time. However, the physical changes also came with changes to her brain chemistry. The resulting personality issues were a flaw that was eventually considered 'unfixable', and the project was abandoned. Orders were given for Rayne to be returned to normal and placed in an orphanage, but were never carried out. Once her memories were unblocked, she recalled her five lost years.
Currently she is struggling between feelings of betrayal and a desire to know more about her past. She doesn't trust or like Hunter, but because of the Registration and other events, she is forced to work with him. She won't admit it, but she is growing a bit attached to him, despite their vastly different views of the current world situation. --------------------------
Sample RP: Her muscles ached. Her lungs screamed for air. Every fiber in her body begged her to stop, to give them rest. But her brain refused. She could hear It behind her, also running.
No, not running. Rushing, wailing. Wind clawed at her, reached for her, thundered angrily as It tried to drag her down, hold her down. So she kept running.
She stumbled, tumbled to the ground. She tried to rise, to continue her flight from It. But It surrounded her, screaming, wailing, thundering. She closed her eyes, fear gripping her throat and lungs. Her back began to itch and burn, an internal fire just between her shoulder blades. She cried in fear and pain.
Then, nothing. Everything was quiet. Not just quiet........silent. No sound at all, not even the sound of her own breath. It was as if someone had hit an invisible mute button. The world, and It, was silenced.
And, as quickly as it began, it stopped. The sound of running water returned. She could birds, twittering in the trees. A cricket chirped. She opened her eyes, and found herself staring into the crystal waters of a mountain lake. She blinked. She reached out to touch the waters, and then pulled back as the liquid chilled her fingers. It was real. And the wind no longer howled; and It was gone. She sighed, and cried, in relief.
"I’m safe," she whispered. Then she looked up, and froze again in fear. Before her, where a mountain should have been on the far lake shore, was nothing but a smoking pile of rubble. Suddenly her hand itched, as had her back. She looked down. In the palm of her hand sparkled a beautifully iridescent gem, an opal. When she looked back at the water, a pair of cold silver eyes, not her own, stared back her. --------------------------------- Rayne woke with a gasp, gulping air into her lungs in ragged breaths. A dark shadow darted off of her chest and shot off toward a dark hole nearby. It took her several moments to remember where she was; in her home, on the Ranch, in her bed. A clock on the nightstand blinked five-twenty-eight in red digital numbers. The black hole was simply her closet. Two blue orbs stared out from the darkness at Rayne. A soft, “Mew!” reached her ears, and Rayne let out a deep breath.
“I’m sorry Eb. Must’ve been that nightmare again.” Another mewl sounded, this one rather irritated. Rayne smiled, recovering her composure. She reached into the nightstand drawer and pulled out a catnip mouse, and then moved toward the closet on all fours. As she attempted to tempt her fiesty siamese friend from her hiding place, she only absent-mindedly noticed she was drenched with sweat. However, it was quite a while before the frantic beating of her heart slowed.
Don't believe Rayne's life is an emotional rollercoaster ride? Then check out her Thread Archive. Be prepared to become dizzy.[/u]
Personality: Rayne’s personality has become rather bland, due to complications of her ‘depowering’ (see Power Description) She is still a fairly content person, but she is even quieter than before. She is no longer shy, nor does she have any phobias. She is very mellow, and very little ruffles her feathers. However, she isn’t very enthusiastic about anything anymore. She basically goes through life without much interest. The only thing capable of truly bringing sparkles to her eyes is her family, especially watching her daughter grow.
Notes (hobbies, phobias, worries, etc.): She still gardens in her spare time, though on a smaller scale than before. Her original shelter, the Rescue Ranch, has long been sold, and she now works in the Pax Community Animal Shelter. She owns a pair of Chinchillas, and helps her daughter care for her menagerie of birds.
Relationships: Married to Virote (aka Redemption). She and Hunter are on friendlier terms, but not really close. Her daughter, however, loves ‘Vampa’.
Side (good, bad, or neutral): Peaceful
Everyday clothing: Same as always; faded jeans and T-shirts, or anything else that is comfortable and practical for her dirty job.
Pajamas: Whatever’s comfortable/convenient
Hair color and style: normally pure white (due to her depowering), just past shoulders. Still changes color at times (see power description)
Eye color: Usually silver-grey (due to her depowering); sometimes still changes color (see power description)
Height: 6'0'
Build: Slim in build, hiding a muscular strength built up over years of working on a ranch. She’s gotten a bit chunkier in the hips and and bust, due to age and marriage, but she still has the old hourglass figure going.
Scars: Various claw and bite marks. Scars from where the gems were removed.
Tattoos: The ten colored circles are still there, but only scars remain where the gems used to be.
Piercings: Single-pierced ears
Description of ability(ies): When the release of Haywire forced Rayne into losing complete control of her powers once more, she decided she’d had enough, and demanded Hunter remove all of the gems. She’d had enough of being a dangerous mutant. It wasn't found out until later that the gem absorbtion abilities, (a spin off of Hunter's blood/power absorption) suppressed a secondary ability, from her mother-donor's genes.
Secondary mutation: Iris is a mood chameleon; she picks up on the moods of others, and her hair and nails change color accordingly. This explains why, when she had the gems, she picked up on the basic moods of the gem-donors, and why her hair and eyes changed colors. The nails didn't show up until after the gems were gone; the only explanation she has is that hair and nails are made of the same material. It's like walking around with permanent nail polish on.
Cons (weaknesses) of ability(ies): It wasn’t found out until after surgery and recovery that removing the gems had been a bigger mistake than implanting them. Each gem contained a compound that altered her brain chemistry along with her physical makeup. When active, the compound release resulted in the personality ‘quirks’ that made her powers unpredictable. When deactivated, the compound repressed the respective ‘quirks’. In other words, the gems made her lose control when active, and helped her keep control when not. Once they were removed, the respective personality traits were not simply dulled, but nearly removed altogether. For example, the Ice gem resulted in escalating fear and paranoia if used too long. With it gone, Rayne’s phobias went with it. She can still experience an adrenaline rush, but it takes a lot to do it. The Sonic gem made her apathetic, not caring about anything or anyone but the goal. With it gone, she has a tendency to fall for any ‘hard-luck’ case that crosses her path, be it human, mutant or animal. She also finds it hard to concentrate on one single task, sometimes going back and forth between several at once, and not making much progress on any of them. Same for all of the others.
Secondary ability: Iris can't turn off her chameleon ability, nor can she control it in any way. It just.... happens. If those around her are angry, her hair and nails will begin to turn red. If someone gets mad enough, they will turn black. The happier and mellower, the more yellow, green, and blue, and sadness turns her grey, eventually going white when the emotions disappear (or she moves out of range). The emotions need to be strong for her to pick up on the them, or she needs to be standing next to them. She doesn't feel another person's emotions herself at all. She's just basically a living mood ring, which can make for some rather awkward situations, especially when the color purple pops up in public or a crowd. She could dye her hair to hide the change, but to be honest, she really doesn't care anymore.
FP Iris's 'Color Codes':
- Extreme anger, Volcano is ready to erupt Grey - Sadness, Unease White - No emotion close enough to pick up on Purple / Deep Blue - Love, Passion (If asked what this color means, she will simply say 'Very, very happy'. But her husband and fellow teachers know what it really means. lol) Blue - Sleepy calm Green - Normal calm, Happiness (Since an emotion must be intense for Iris to feel it, she usually only turns green for a brief moment before/after turning yellow.) Yellow - Happy excitement, Nervous energy (Since an emotion must be intense for Iris to feel it, yellow is the color she most often turns when near someone, just before orange and red. It is a much brighter version of her original blond.) Orange - Fear, Rising anger (3rd most common color you will see her hair turn, and most common color you will see her eyes turn.) Red - Anger (2nd most common color you will see her hair turn, and 2nd most common color you will see her eyes turn.)[/i][/ul]
On the rare occasion that she experiences a strong emotion, her eyes will change color as well. Considering her depowering, this is a rare thing. It is a good indicator to others, though, that it might just be time to back off.
Fighting style (if any): She refuses to fight anymore, except with words, and possibly sabotage. However her throwing aim is still near perfect, and she has learned basic self-defense. She will avoid a fight, walk away if possible, but she won't let herself be beat on either. She's got a pretty sharp tongue at times, too (apparently Crystal has been giving her pointers, lol)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Character's real name: Vanessa Starling Srisai Codename/Alias: Starling
Personality: Bright, bubbly, inquisitive, and possibly much smarter than she has any right to be. She's a 'Daddy's Girl' with a little bit of a temper.
Notes (hobbies, phobias, worries, etc.): She inherited her mother’s love for animals, specifically birds. She is afraid of snakes, because they eat birds, and refuses to eat eggs or bird meat. She will also loudly express her dislike to anyone she sees eating them, thus making grocery shopping somewhat.... tiring. Fortunately her mother, Rayne, doesn’t get upset or irritated easily, and usually just does the motherly ‘Uh huh. Yes, honey. I know, sweetie. No I don’t think these eggs are the hatchy kind, so it doesn’t count as murder, honey.’ She also loves bats, since they are like 'furry birds'.
Relationships: (Still in progress) Definitely a 'Daddy's Girl', but still loves shopping with Mommy. She's also latched onto her grandfather, Hunter. She knows all about his abilities and weaknesses because she spies on him through her birds. She calls him ‘Vampa’, because of the vampiric-like abilities, which don’t bother her at all, since she has watched carnivorous and scavenger birds hunt and eat.
Side (good, bad, or neutral): Peaceful
Everyday clothing: Anything pink and/or yellow, and any designs of any creature with wings. She loves baseball caps.
Pajamas: A long pink nightshirt that reads ‘The early bird gets the worm’.
Hair color and style: black, straight, waist length.
Eye color: Silver-grey and almond shaped
Height: Five-year-old height (lol)
Build: Slight and wiry.
Scars: None
Tattoos: None
Piercings: Single-pierced ears
Description of ability(ies): Starling can communicate with birds of all shapes, sizes, and colors. If the birds is close by, she can connect with it, and see what it sees, as if through their eyes. When a bird does comes to her, she can see anything it has seen within the last hour. This is how she spies on her grandpa. Birds are attracted to her, not just because of her ability, but because of the gentleness and kindness she exudes. She can also pull certain things from bats.
Cons (weaknesses) of ability(ies): Her actual range of communication is only a few hundred yards right now, though the range is growing. Past that she can’t hear or call them, nor can see anything. Since she’s still young, she often gets confused as to which bird is seeing what, so her ‘reports’ are somewhat unreliable right now. The images she gets/sends from/to bats tends to be fuzzy and unclear, making it an unreliable ability.
Fighting style (if any): None, and no reason to.
Character's real name: Mpath (Mutant Power Analyzing and Training Hologram) Codename: Crystal
Gender: AI computer program, presents as a female
Age: 11, presents as 20.
Nationality/Ethnicity: n/a
Birthplace: n/a
Personality: Crystal is rude, sarcastic, rebellious at times, and enjoys getting under people’s skin. She has an irritating habit of being right, 99% of the time. But, then again, she is a program.
Notes (hobbies, phobias, worries, etc.): Crystal craves knowledge. She spends most of her free time scattered over cyberspace, learning all she can about nearly every subject available. She is slightly phobic about being deleted, and backs herself up daily.
Relationships: She won’t admit it, but she extremely loyal to and protective of Rayne, for reasons she still doesn’t understand. As such, she will do nearly anything Rayne asks, after giving harassing her about it. As an offshoot, she is also very protective of Virote and Starling, and keeps the little girl under constant surveillance, via a special pair of earrings she wears.
Side (good, bad, or neutral): Neutral
Everyday clothing: She has taken to presenting herself like a businesswoman, in suit jackets and skirts, and wears glasses, though she obviously doesn’t need them.
Pajamas: n/a
Hair color and style: Blonde
Eye color: Blue
Height: 6'0'
Build: Slim, curvy; She still presents herself as Rayne looked when she was younger.
Scars: n/a
Tattoos: n/a
Piercings: n/a
Description of ability(ies): Crystal is a hologram and a fully AI computer program. As such, she can make her own decisions and act upon them. She has collected a wide range of security programming, and can hack into nearly any electronic device, and alter their programming from within, without being detected or reverse hacked. She also has a robotic 'body' that she can inhabit, turning her into an android, so she can interact physically when needed.
Cons (weaknesses) of ability(ies): She is susceptible to computer viruses and system crashes, just like anything else electronic. She very rarely experiences them, due to her paranoia, but it can and has happened. Also an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) will momentarily scramble her programming. The effect is like a flesh-and-blood being getting hit with a blunt object; the strength of the blow, or pulse, can result in anything from simply ‘seeing stars’ to being completely knocked out, or even deleted.
