The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Both Rachel and Blaine were in agreement with her about cheesecake, even if her son thought it was gross. And while she did momentarily wonder how he could be her son and not like cheesecake, the fact was that would leave more for her.
”We'll have to go for a walk sometime,” Lee said, smiling over at Blaine. ”I don't know if it's still there, though I doubt they'd close from lack of business. But I did know of this amazing little place. And if you think chocolate is good, you need to try their strawberry chocolate.”
He nodded, putting his hands behind his head as he relaxed, occasionally stealing a glance or two over at Lee as she spoke. "That sounds like a plan," he said, slouching a little more as he got comfortable. Though for someone who couldn't feel, getting comfortable was a little complicated. But as far as that went, he was as comfortable as he could be.
"If not, I know a guy who makes 'em. Little pricey, but he's worth it. He's as close as someone can get to a fan of mine, so he might cut me a discount," Blaine said with a small shrug, slightly hinting at his past in fighting.
”A fan?” Rachel asked. ”Why would you have fans? Lee said that you were a bouncer at Matt’s bar.”
Lee just frowned at Rachel with a shake of her head. ”What, you think that’s all Blaine’s ever done?” Lee asked in response.
”Well, no, but…”
”No what?” Lee asked, an eyebrow raised. ”You’re my sister, and you don’t even know half of what I’ve done, so why would it be so surprising that Blaine might have fans?”
The moment that the words were out of her mouth, Lee knew it had been a bad idea. Knew, because out of the corner of her eye she could see Kevin get excited. ”What have you done, mummy?” Kevin asked, and as Lee looked over, she could see him practically jumping in his seat. ”I know you and daddy have lots of stories, but you never tell me any!”
Well, Lee thought. There was one that sounded magical enough that it would satisfy Kevin, but at the same time others likely wouldn’t suspect it was real. As long as she could get the words out with her voice remaining natural. ”Well, Kevin, did you know that I died once, and a unicorn brought me back to life?”
He chuckled at the exchange, which quickly led to Kevin jumping into the conversation. And Lee's answer...well he had to quirk an eyebrow at it, but at the same time, he'd heard some pretty wild stories involving mutants, so he'd learned to treat everything with a grain of truth. However, now things had quieted down a bit, and he had his chance to speak. He found himself talking about his past, and his mutation emerging, a lot these days, but...he liked it. Or maybe he just liked throwing out that he was almost famous. Sometimes he did find himself clinging to the what ifs, but now he realized if he'd made it big as a fighter, he never would have met Lee. So he'd have been rich, alone, and still miserable, instead of happily in a relationship and doing...adequately, actually, though not as well as he had when he was fighting illegally.
"Well, I'm actually a trained MMA fighter," he finally said. "I did pretty good in my hometown in Maine growing up, eventually made my way to Vegas. I'd garnered somewhat of a cult following, but the night I had my shot...my opponent broke my arm. Despite that, I got out of the hold without tapping out, and I went on to win by knockout seconds later. But by then...they knew I was a mutant, and I guess they consider a fighter who can't feel pain kind of cheating." He gave a small shrug.
Kevin seemed happy about the bit of information she had given, but no one actually said anything about it. Rachel’s expression said that she thought it was nothing more than a made up story to placate Kevin. Blaine’s raised eyebrow said that he was at least curious about whether she was telling the truth.
But at that moment, all Lee was really hoping was that Kevin wouldn’t bring this up to Tarin. He hadn’t dealt well with that when it had actually happened, Lee didn’t think he would take the ‘story’ very well coming from an excited 6 year old.
As they finished talking, Blaine finally started to explain why he had fans. And as he spoke, Lee’s eyes made their way to his, appreciating the story more now that she had seen him at least partially in action at the gym. ”You never told me you won that quickly after,” Lee said.
”What’s MMA?” Kevin jumped in and asked. When Lee looked over, she could see a confused expression on his little face.
”How did you manage to keep fighting with a broken arm?” Rachel asked.
As she looked over at her sister, Lee realized again just how much more sheltered Rachel had been. Still was. ”I’m guessing it wouldn’t be very hard when it doesn’t hurt,” Lee told her. ”People push through pain all the time to keep going, so it wouldn’t be hard when you don’t feel that pain.”
"I didn't? No idea how I'd have left that part out. But yeah, Pain is something that lets us know when to stop; I don't have that," he explained to Rachel while answering Lee's question. Then, he turned to Kevin.
"It stands for Mixed Martial Arts. It's fighting," he said simply.
"Most people who have heard of me tend to think I was cheating, even though I can't help what I was born with. But every now and then, I meet someone who sees things from my point of view. That's kind of nice, I admit..." he sighed a little, but again reminded himself of why his current life was better than being famous. After all, that reason was sitting right next to him.
After seeing Blaine sparring at the gym, and feeling the holds he had put her in (even though she was still pretty convinced he had been going easy on her), Lee was much more impressed by the fact that he had won the fight after getting his arm broken. Especially since he said he had won the fight just seconds after hearing the snap and then getting out of the hold.
But then Blaine was going straight into explaining to Kevin what MMA was. Even if the explanation was very simplistic. But it not only seemed to satisfy his question, it also seemed to peek Kevin’s interest in it even more. ”No, I think you left that little tidbit out,” Lee said, turning her eyes back to Blaine, hoping that she’d be able to head ff any more questions from Kevin. At least for the moment. ”I mean, we had just met when you told me about it. But if I had known that, I probably would have been a lot more impressed.”
”Since when have you been impressed by fighting, Lee?” Rachel asked, and as Lee turned her eyes to her sister once more, she realized that this was just simply a question full of curiosity.
”I never have been,” Lee said with a shrug. ”But, I have an idea of the effort required to do what Blaine did, and that’s without having a broken bone. So yeah, finding out might have impressed me.”
As Lee finished speaking, she heard a small voice piping up. ”That is so cool!” Kevin explained. ”Do you still do it? Can I see?”
Then Kevin got another thought, and actually bounced up to his feet, leaning across the table to look at Blaine excitedly. ”Can you teach me? My friends will be so excited about this!”
Blaine kept his mouth shut, but he was sure she was more impressed because it was him. He had to admit, he was liking where this conversation had headed. At least until Kevin jumped back in with a round of questions. "I don't fight anymore, but I do still like to train and spar at the gym. Keep in shape," he said at first, weighing the boy's other questions.
He looked at Lee for a moment before choosing his words carefully. "I wouldn't mind teaching you a few things, but--" he looked from Kevin to Lee again, then back to Kevin, "--that's not for me to decide. You'll have to take that one up with your mom," he continued, still in his gentle voice.
Kevin asked if Blaine would teach him, and Lee frowned. He was so excited by the idea, thought it was so cool. But then again, she had just told Blaine she had been impressed by what he had done in his last legitimate fight, and if she was impressed, she couldn't really tell her son not to be excited by the same thing.
Looking at Blaine as he turned his eyes to her, she gave him a nod, the frown still on her face. It probably was about time for him to start learning something like that, anyway, Lee reasoned as she heard Blaine telling Kevin that he still trained. Kevin was getting older, afterall, wanting more independence. And spending more time away from her with school and seeing Tarin. And, while there hadn't been any problems there in years, it was impossible to guarantee that it would never happen again.
”Please mummy? Can he please teach me? I really want to learn!”
Lee looked over at Kevin, the frown still on her face. And she could tell that he thought she was about to say no because of the pleading look that appeared on his face. ”It would probably be a good idea,” Lee said, turning her eyes to Blaine now instead of her son. ”I wouldn’t have the faintest idea where to start.”
”Lee? You’re really going to let Kevin learn that?” Rachel asked, the shock evident in her voice.
”Really mummy? I can?”
Lee chose to ignore Rachel at this point and instead looked at Kevin. ”There will be rules,” she told him. ”And it will be a lot of hard work. But yes, Blaine can teach you.”
He nodded as he listened; so it seemed he would be training both of them. Although, he noted that the two of them would have very different regimen before them. In fact, Blaine spent several moments in silence thinking about how he would approach training someone so...young. He figured he'd at least teach the boy the basics, plus a few escapes and counters, and whatever else Lee would let him get away with.
Finally, he spoke up. "Sure, I think I can teach you a few things. I'll have to figure a few things out first," he said before stealing a glance over at Lee. It was more of a questioning glance; he figured there'd be talk about these rules, and of course things he couldn't teach. Of course, not everything in his arsenal was meant for a six year old.
After she said that Kevin could be trained to fight by Blaine, she could feel all the eyes at the table on her. Kevin was excited and happy. Rachel was incredulous. And Blaine just looked like he wanted to question her, make sure she really wanted her son to do this.
So Lee nodded.
”Thank you, mummy! Thank you, Blaine! This is going to be so awesome!”
Lee couldn’t help the slight smile from turning up the corners of her mouth seeing the excitement on her son’s face, in his voice. Yup, most definitely his father’s son, she couldn’t help but think as she turned to look at Blaine once more. Who still had that questioning expression on his face. Probably wondering if she was sure, if this was something she actually wanted her son to do.
”Yes, Blaine, I’m sure,” she said softly with a nod. ”To be honest, if I had been in New York at the time, I probably would have started a couple years ago with him.”
Blaine had to smile at Kevin's reaction; it was nice to see him so enthusiastic about learning, anyway. Even if he had some things to figure out, there. But that shouldn't be too hard.
Looking over at Lee, he gave a nod again. "Sounds good, then," he said as he slouched a little more in his chair. He knew he was full because he was getting sleepy; even still that worked different for him too. He didn't have the pain or the grogginess that tended to come with extreme tiredness, but he could tell he was slowing down.
