The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Giving a little chuckle, it was kind of funny to have confirmation that her power made no sense. "Yeah, that would make sense but no one told my brain these rules. Apparently it likes to mess with me. For some reason." Alice was good to her mind. Mostly. OK there was the drink....and the late night gaming. And the lack of sleep. Yeah maybe she could do with laying off on some things.
Might even make her power a little less annoying to deal with. Hell even just the ability to turn it off would be awesome.
Those were really interesting lines of thought and there was the possibility her power could level up! That was awesome!. "That does make sense, it seems a little incomplete at the moment. Maybe its a protective thing? Like too much too quick would just be dangerous for my mind so it's giving me, content, for lack of a better word bit by bit. Kind of the way an MMO drops patches every once in a while with more stuff." Yeah, that made sense to her. Her power was a work in progress.
The idea of more to come was kind of awesome. "Wait, you have more than just the mirror stuff? Like what? Ooo can you copy peoples looks or something?" Being able to look like another person? That was kind of awesome and Alice could only imagine the fun you could have with that with a partner.

"Powers, amirite?" Maya chuckled, relieved that she did not cause any permanent damage to her brand new trainee. That would have been a pity. Sometimes powers made life hard for their owners - but that was not usually their default setting. Eventually, one was supposed to figure out how they worked the right way... In Alcie's case, likely by leveling up, like one would in a real videogame.

"Yes, that's about what I thought too." Maya nodded "You are still doing the tutorial. Once you get the hang of your current settings, you'll probably unlock some more. It usually took years for me for a new part of my power to manifest, and it surprised me every time..."
>>"Wait, you have more than just the mirror stuff? Like what? Ooo can you copy peoples looks or something?"
"Well, sort of." Maya smirked; getting back on her feet, she walked into the nearest mirror, and used her powers to take over Alice's reflection. When she spoke, her voice remained the same "I can only do this in the mirrors, though, and it's easy to see through" she chuckled, walking back out "I can take other people in, you already know that... I can trap things in there too. Or people... Oh, and I automatically shapeshift every night. Every other day, I'm a guy." she grinned "Actually, that was my very first power. I was born with it. Mom's a shifter."

A tutorial? That was a great way to look at it. For now she just had to get used to her power, get a handle on focusing on it and when to ignore it. It wasn't fool proof after all. Maya had tricked her before and Alice had no clue if it could track people when they went invisible or teleported. Might be something worth looking at. It was reassuring that this wasn't unusual. Yeah her power was a little unique but everyone at the school was dealing with stuff.
Seeing herself in a mirror, moving independently and talking in a different voice was freaky. Standing up slowly, the pain not hard to deal with now, "That is so many kinds of trippy. Please tell me you've played pranks on people with that." Seemed like the perfect way to mess with someone.
"Woah, woah, woah, you shift genders every night? Just like that?" That was, how on earth did you deal with that? It was awesome and really odd. Must make some interactions really awkward and Jesus relationships must be a struggle. "Are you saying Sometimes when you're training me you won't be this....cute?"
So, she had an attractive trainer, who kicked butt and was like the perfect female role model. Only she was only a woman half the time. Certainly made her look at some of her views of people. Would she treat her differently when she was.....him. "That's just, wow. Not someone you think you'd meet and as a heads up if I treat you different as a guy call me out of it. Don't want to be acting all weird because of your power."

>>"That is so many kinds of trippy. Please tell me you've played pranks on people with that."
"Oh yes." Maya grinned "Everyone at the Mansion totally believes in Bloody Mary."
Sure, the trick did not always work, and definitely did not work on everyone, but she had had some spectacular successes with it in the past... Not usually as well received as the 'I am my own twin' thing, however. Alice seemed more shocked by that one too. No surprise.
>>"Woah, woah, woah, you shift genders every night? Just like that? Are you saying Sometimes when you're training me you won't be this....cute?"
Maya smirked at the question. She had already tagged Alice as interested in girls, but this comment confirmed it; not that she would have messed around with a trainee (how old was she, anyway?), but it was nice to be appreciated. "Yuup, that's right. Although I like to think I'm quite cute as a guy, too." Some people certainly seemed to think so. Even people who were not Maxine.
>>"That's just, wow. Not someone you think you'd meet and as a heads up if I treat you different as a guy call me out of it. Don't want to be acting all weird because of your power."
"Oh, I will call you out on it." Maya grinned again "Does that mean you'd like me to keep training you? Because I think it could be fun, but as I said, the X-men don't recruit people who are not interested. And even if you don't want to be an X, I can still work with you on your powers."

Giggling a little at the idea of your own reflection playing tricks on you, she wished she could see someone freak out a little at it. Not herself though, she wasn't a fan of horror as a matter of course so getting jump scared by someone in real life would suck. "Some people must get really paranoid around mirrors when they know you're here."
Nope, no way she could believe that a guy could be as good looking. So she might be a little prejudiced on the matter but girls were just better. For so many reasons.
"Honestly? I don't know. The idea of actually fighting people puts me on edge and with me getting close to Uni I don't know how much free time I'd have, but I do definitely wasnt to continue training. Who knows, once I get a little used to my mutation I might think better of it." It was a pretty cool idea, being a real life costumed super hero, changing lives and keeping people safe. There was also the part of her brain screaming how terrible an idea it really was.
"I think I just need time to think about it. Hard to make a snap decision. Plus chances are now that it's in my brain I'll get a quest to come join at some point. If I don't do them they just stay there....taunting me. Forever." The obsessive gamer in her just hated leaving it undone, more than a week and she was at frustration point with it. "It's not a no though. Don't count me out just yet."
Alice had the feeling the offer was always going to be on the table, for when she was ready.
