The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kendra laughed a little watching Leon try and figure out the apron. She supposed he had probably never wore one. Turning on the burner she started to hum a bit. The sound coming from her a sweet lullaby she was never sung as child. Just one that she happened to know. Drifting about the kitchen here or there, she was in really good mood today. She took the pan from Leon and placed it on the burner slappin down a few big pieces of steak. She began to chop some onions and green peppers. More of a dinner type of thing but she couldn't remember the last time she got to actually cook so it was as much for relaxation as anything else.
Between chopping onions and the quite sizzle of the steaks on the pan she looked up at Leon. "So. What'ya like to do for fun Leon?" She was honestly curious. When she snuck into his room the other night she was hoping to learn a little about his interests, but instead she ended up terrorizing the poor guy. A slight frown pulled at her lips at the thought of it, but she quickly replaced it was a soft smile.
Kendra started making lines with her cut ingredients on the chopping board and slid them into he sizzling pan. Holding up the knife she motioned towards the chair encouraging him to take a seat at the table. Cutting didn't seem to be his thing so instead she would just prepare a nice meal for two 'friends' to share for lunch.
Kendra turned her attention back to the cupboards and found a bottle of wine that was tucked away in the back of the cabinet. She popped the cork out and sprinkled a bit over the meat just to give it a special little extra something. She had particular tastes. It might sound disgusting, but a light glaze of maple syrup over a juicy stake gave it a slightly sweeter taste that was absolutely amazing, but she wasn't going to experiment on poor Leon with her weird recipes, instead she was just going to give him a fantastic meal.
As the meat cooked she eyed him from time to time. Studying his reactions, his body language. He still seemed a bit out of his element here. She wanted him to relax and she wanted him to enjoy himself. She reached over and turned on a radio that was sitting on the counter by the sink. Her eyes cast back over to him as she started to tend to their lunch.

For Leon, the smells filling the kitchen quickly set his appetite ablaze. Generally speaking, he had never been 'in' a kitchen while the food was being made, usually he went dumpster diving after catching the scent of something good coming from a restaurant. This simply overloaded his nose with delectable that his stomach was ready to start rumbling at any moment.
"So. What'ya like to do for fun Leon?"
Leon had no answer to that, he had never been in a position to pursue his own interests between the time his powers had manifested and the mansion finding him. His life had just been about surviving each day, not about being happy. So there was a long pause before he came up with an answer. "I... used to be into sports." he said, though honestly this was not something he did now, rather it was what he had been interested before the fur grew in. He didn't know what Kendra wanted out of him, since most of her questions related to things he simply didn't have.
Leon watched as Kendra sprinkled something on the steak and placed the bottle on the counter. Leon picked it up, a bit curious, sniffing at it and reading of the strange foreign name on the label. It smelt fruity, some sort of berry juice? Feeling thirsty he brought it to his mouth and quickly drank the contents down while Kendra was preoccupied with the steak. Not bad, he thought. wiping his lips and putting the bottle back on the counter. He didn't know it was wine, he had never even had a beer before, and aside from things he had seen on tv before he became a mutant, or in passing glances, had no experience with wine to give him context.
Kendra moved around quietly humming along now to the song on the radio. She cast and glance over at Leon every so often but she was mostly interested in making sure the food was good. She didn't know that he hadn't have many home cooked meals, but she wanted this one to be nice just the same. It was her inner cook that wouldn't allow these steaks to be cook subpar. She was about to sprinkle a little more wine in the pan just so the steak could marinate a little and have the juice cook and infuse in it when Leon came up behind her and picked up the bottle.
She stopped what she was doing and watched as he took several long heavy swigs and set the bottle back down. A giggle escaped her lips. Did he know what that was? She wondered as he seemed to smack his lips. Kendra watched him a moment longer. Alcohol always effected her weird. Just one or two glasses of wine would probably put her on her but.
Kendra picked up the bottle and took a swing herself. A little one. She wasn't trying to get tipsy over a hot stove. Not when she was the world's clumsiest astral projector. But still enough to taste and verify that it was a good year. It didn't taste to bad. In fact, the mere sip excited her taste buds for the steak that was almost done. "Go'on now get'on back to the table this is almost done."
Moving back to the fridge she grabbed some microwave vegetables she had seen in there and popped them in the microwave. Microwaved veggies weren't the best but they would do for the occasion. While that cooked she grabbed two glasses and poured a little of the wine in each and set them on the table in front of Leon. Then she fixed up a few plates of steamed veggies and steak.
It wasn't exactly a dinner date, more a meal between two friends. She smiled lightly as she set the plate in front of Leon. Kendra took off her apron and hung it back up before grabbing her plate and joining him at the table. Before Leon could dig in she made him say grace as she bowed her head and got ready to eat.

If Kendra hadn't had stopped it, the steak would have been gone in a few moments. Leon would have most certainly wolfed it down, and his teeth ensured that anything was completely shredded, so it made it exceedingly easy. The wine was having no effect on him, not that he knew it. His immune system was built to process toxins, mainly because of his own, so the alcohol in his system had no effect on his faculties, physical or mental. Of course this also meant he didn't feel any sort of buzz either, which was likely a good thing given his general depression, if he could get drunk it would not likely end well in any case.
The meal Kendra made looked and smelled good, though in Leon's case this was somewhat lost on him. Anything looked and smelt good when you were not sure when your next meal was going to be. Even the microwave veggies were something he generally didn't get a chance at. He sat down at the table, waiting for for Kendra to finish saying grace. He wasn't that into religion. If there was some all powerful god somewhere, he had decided to curse him for no reason. It was kind of hard to have faith in anything if it meant your lord hated your guts enough to turn you into a monster. While Kendra prayed, he checked his tail again. A few more spine buds were growing, and the original one was getting longer. As he tried counting he could see that it all the holes his plucking had left were being filled again by the spine buds, which likely meant that they would all grow back. What did he have to do to catch a break?

Kendra sat down and said grace smiling lightly as she picked up her fork. She looked over at Leon who seemed to be looking at his tail. A frown formed across her features as she watched him. He seemed worried about something. She thought as she began to cut her steak. Well I guess I'll just have to distract em. She thought smiling a bit.
"How's your food Leon?" She asked plopping a bit of steak into her mouth and following it wit a few sips of wine. She knew he hadn't touched it yet. He was so distracted by whatever it was gong on with his tail, but she wanted him to relax for once. Stop worrying and just enjoy a meal. The wine was heady and strong. Wow! She thought. Better take it easy on that stuff. Likely to get a buzz just from one glass. She was the lightest of light weights when it came to alcohol.
Kendra continued to cut her steak and even dipped a little in her wine as she watched him. "So sports huh? Bet it was football. We could throw a ball round of bit after lunch that sounds like fun!" She was unrelentingly optimistic about everything. Even when she knew that she should dial it back she only piled it on because well.... Because that was just the type of person she was. She was going to break Leon out of his shell and make him have some fun even if it killed her.

With grace out of the way, Leon was ready to chow down, though he saw Kendra had placed cutlery by the plate.
"How's your food Leon?"
He grabbed the knife and fork rather ungracefully. They were small in his hands, it was rather laughable to see him trying to use it effectivly. They just weren't the right kind of hands for such a delicate task, and they slipped and slid in his paws doing nothing but pushing the food around. Growing with annoyance he placed them back down and grabbed the steak with his hands and took a big bite, his teeth slicing through the meat like a dozen serrated knives. No offense to Kendra, but he didn't have the patience to entertain the idea that he could pull off a elegant dinner display. He had finished the steak in two bites. It tasted good, though this applied to just about everything edible. "Hmmmm good." he said swallowing what remained down, and drinking the entirety of his cup .
"So sports huh? Bet it was football. We could throw a ball round of bit after lunch that sounds like fun!"
Leon made a muffled growl of discomfort, "Yeah... I don't do that anymore." he said. His last game had ended with him poisoning a half dozen people, scaring him with the memory of being surrounded by screams and convulsing bodies. And even if he could get past that, he knew it wasn't going to last. He didn't want to torture himself when his quills grew back. Playing football again, then having it torn away from him would be too much. He had enough disappointment today, and plenty more to look forward too.

Kendra casually used her fork and knife to cut another piece of steak and pop it into her mouth. The next time she looked up Leon's steak was gone. Well... Dang! She thought. Must've been good! Kendra smiled and finished the last of her steak. There was only one or two bite left though it was little awkward being the last one to finish. She feel him looking at her.
When he steadfastly declared that he didn't play football anymore she visibly winced. It was like watching the joy leave someone's eyes. She thought she saw a twinkle in his eye for a hair of a second, but it quickly left when he realized he couldn't do anything in life without hurting people. She had to find an activity. Something that he could do safely and a few things came to mid. Batting cage? Tennis? Frisbee? She sighed and allowed her shoulders to slump as she stood up taking the dirty dishes with her.
"Come on honey how's bout we take'a walk you'n me." She said sweetly as she finished washing the dishes. Looking at Leon batting her big brown eyes. She had no idea if her looks factored into it in anyways. Leon was quite hard to read and he didn't exactly seem into her in that way which was fine, but still she used her puppy dog eyes on him to try to get him to agree to the walk. She hadn't learned jack squat! Leon finished his meal in 2.3 seconds it wasn't exactly a nice sit down and get to know ya!
Kendra moved around the counter to where Leon sat and leaned on the back of the chair. She could find out more about him if he decided to go for a walk. If he wanted something a bit more challenging she knew of a place that had a hiking trail near by actually. It all really depended on what Leon said. She had no idea what was rattling around in that head of his, but she wanted access to it. He was like a big old mystery puzzle. Puzzles bugged her, she was so nosey she had to solve them and figure them out or it would drive her crazy.

Kendra was a little confusing for Leon to be around. She always seemed to be staring at him which made him self conscious. He couldn't tell what she wanted from him, but humoured her as best he could. It was not as if he had anywhere to go or be. And it was clear that whatever time he had before his quills grew back in was limited. There wasn't really any point making plans since there was barely enough time for whatever Kendra was planning.
"A walk sounds okay," he said compliently, oblivious to the attempts to charm him with puppy dog eyes. He had never had anyone pursue his interests, so all it looked like to him was that she was staring at him intently. He wished she would just be strait forward, it felt like she wanted something, but was going to great lengths not to say it. Maybe it was something she was afraid to ask? He could only imagine what it was if that was the case. Had he ever bitten anyone? How many people had he poisoned? Had he ever killed anyone? It was not pleasent to think about, thus he was convinced that meant it was the most likely explaination. Was she just intensly curious about dangerous creatures? It would explain why she was so obsessed with a monster like him.

The air outside was nice. It was warm and pleasant. The soft breezed blew Kendra's hair gently around her face. Reaching up she absentmindedly pulled her hair to one side of her neck. All of her hair flowed down one shoulder leaving the side closest to Leon exposed and open to the hot air around them. It was a beautiful day out. The sun sat in the sky as it was mid afternoon. The grounds of the mansion were lush and green. The birds could be heard chirping happily from their nests in the nearby trees.
Kendra was off in her head of course. Like her codename suggested she was a bit of a daydreamer, but that wasn't her fault. Her mutation meant that even when she went to sleep she was fully conscious and aware. Her astral body and her physical body were just vessels to transport her always active mind. One could imagine how being in a never ending state of conscious awareness could made some people go mad! It constantly made her feel run down and tired, and she sometimes had trouble focusing. It was easy for her to get distracted by this or that. It was easy for her to get allow her mind to get caught in a daydream and fantasize about things that were often floating in her subconscious mind.
Like right now for example. She was thinking about why she didn't bring her camera with her. A simple enough thought. That thought led to the thought of what kind of photos she would have liked to take naturally, then that thought led to getting some photos of everything! It was a beautiful day out. She wondered if Leon would like his photo taken. Kendra was a photographer for a local magazine in Georgia called The Divide. It was a pro mutant magazine that focused on civil rights. The articles within the magazine were submitted by pro mutant people in the city that wanted their voices heard. They were reviewed by the editor and if it fit with the message they were trying send then they were included. Basically everything about the magazine was freelance the photographs, the articles....
Kendra wasn't going to take pictures of mutants, or mutants using their powers without their permission. This was a publication very popular in Georgia and she didn't want to out anyone as a mutant that didn't want to be outted, but she did wonder. She realized that her mind had drifted from her camera to her magazine she worked for. Feeling slightly embarrassed that she had allowed herself to fall off into such a long stir of internal thought smiled. "If'n you could have three wishes Leon, Would would those be?" She knew one of them already. She knew he'd wish to look normal. She had come to realize it was a constant factor of stress for him.
She didn't know what the other two wishes would be and that was the really telling part. Kendra's soft pale skin almost seemed to shine in the the rays of the son. Her hair cascading down one shoulder in a river of red. Her big brown eyes filled with inquisitive wonder as she stared at him softly. Her pouty lips pulled into an unsatisfied half smirk. Like she wouldn't be satisfied until she really knew one truly unique thing about him. Something about him that wasn't painfully obvious or easily deduce. The football thing was a surprise, but she could have guessed it was something physical. He was a big guy. She wanted to know something about his character that no one else knew. She wanted to know something about his soul, that he was afraid to share with anyone else.
Kendra's curiosity and kindness both were endlessly deep oceans. She wouldn't give up on Leon just because he was a little hard to get to know. She was stubborn enough and persistent enough to crack open his heart and nestle herself in there. Everyone needs someone they can count on. She wasn't sure if she was that person for Leon, but she was trying to get to know him. She was trying to peel back the layers and get at the person underneath. The reason she loved working for her magazine was because it went with what she truly believed. That mutants were just.... Humans. Just one step up on the evolutionary later, but at their core the were still human and part of the human race. She embraced her humanity. She didn't shrink away from it. She knew that Leon, despite his appearance was human to. That's what she was trying to uncover. She was trying to help him reach his humanity, so he didn't have to feel like a monster.

The day was nice, Leon had to admit that. He may be the eternal pessimist, but even he could see when the weather was nice and the temperature not to hot or cold. Generally the cold didn't bother him, his fur protected him from that, but heat could quickly become bother, the flip side of the coin. He found himself caught up in his own thoughts again, Kendra hadn't really said anything, so his mind went back to his quills and how long he had before they would grow to the point of being dangerous. They had started to regrow after about 2 hours after they were pulled it seemed. He knew they usually regrew in an hour if broken off, so assuming that once it was the size of a broken quill it would reach full size in about an hour, all he had to do was figure out how long that would take. It had been maybe an hour between the time in the doctors office and now, and the first quill looked about halfway the size of ones that usually broke off. It was a guess, but he would thing it would take maybe another hour to reach there, then that would make... 5 hours total between plucking and total regrowth... all that for 5 hours. Well, not even that really, getting all of them had taken 2 hrs, which meant, at best he had 3 hrs before he could be considered a risk again. Not much time.
"If'n you could have three wishes Leon, Would would those be?"
The question cut into his thoughts, turning his attention back to Kendra, who seemed to have decided to start asking questions again. Three wishes. He hadn't ever considered that. He had given up on making wishes, they always seemed a waste of time, false hopes and dreams that wouldn't come true. He could wish all he wanted and nothing would come of it. So what would he wish for? He'd want to be normal, but he had the feeling these weren't supposed to be those type of wishes. It was probably supposed to be things that fell into the realm of possibility. He would never be normal, he would never be able to put together everything he had ruined by nature of being him. What did he want that could happen? His quills gone? No. It was clear that was impossible as well. Honestly there was nothing he was able to change about himself. He was stuck as he was. Things that could happen...
"I'd wish..." he started, but faltered, unable to think of anything. Material things didn't matter, they wouldn't make him any happier, and everything he would wish for himself was pointless since he couldn't change it. He couldn't have anything he wanted, and everything else just felt empty. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to find something in himself worth anything. And then it came to him, something simple, and maybe possible, and maybe even something he wanted. "I'd wish... to have a life worth living." he said. It was the only thing he could really hope for. Not to have anything special, or be something he could not be. but just to have something that was worth it in the end. Something that made his life matter. Even if he was a monster, even if he was poisonous, if he just had something that made it worth it, something that justified his pain and loneliness. Something that would allow him to look at himself in a mirror and see something besides the useless creature he had become. IT was far fetched, he knew, but it was probably the only thing left he could realistically hope for.

Kendra thought about his answer. She said nothing. She simply walked along with him and thought about his answer. It was a sad answer, but not one she hadn't expected. She was sort of hoping he would answer the whole thing and give her two more answers but she knew when not to press her luck. She wanted to give him a hug. To tell him his life was worth living, but she knew that those words were probably going to be wasted on deaf ears.
Kendra walked around the mansion grounds enjoying the bright smiling sun. The birds were chirping in some near by tree and the fields were filled with the sounds of other students laughing. Why can't he be happy? She wondered. She had to come to terms with her mutation, though hers was a lot less of a physical mutation and more of a mental one. Kendra found herself wishing that there was something she could do for him. Anything. Inf act she figured she'd ask it out loud.
"So. You don't want three wishes, but what if i could do something for you right now? Anythang, at all what would it be?" She was hoping it was something simple like icecream or something. That would give them an excuse to go get icecream. And who didn't like ice cream. Kendra wasn't close enough to Leon for either of them to consider themselves friends but she was trying. She was trying to break down those walls, but he seemed steadfastly intent on keeping them up. It must be a hard habit to break after spending so much of your life secluded and outcast.
Kendra smiled at Leon and gently took his hand again. "Come on." Said said and that was all she said. She led him over to a tree with some nice shade. It was cool out but the sun was beating down so there was a warmth to her skin. She figured he had to be getting at least a little hot under all that fur. She led him to the tree to show him something. She had an eye for it. She had spotted a squirell sitting by the tree. Kendra's quite kind demnor was enough that she could usually get prett close to these things. She didn't try it before with the intimidating presence of Leon lurking near by but she figured it was worth a go. "Come on lil fella." She coaxed. She kneeled down and held out her hand with an acorn she picked up off the ground. She held it out for the little squirrel. She didn't know if Leon cared for such things, but she found tiny moments like this beautiful. It was tiny moments like this that she captured through the lens of her camera that made her find life worth living.

Leon was trying to think of the next two wishes. It was difficult for him to think of things that meant enough for him to want that didn't involve giving his hopes up.
"So. You don't want three wishes, but what if i could do something for you right now? Anythang, at all what would it be?"
Leon shook his head in disagreement, "It's not that," he tried to explain, "I just don't have enough faith in wishes to believe they would come true, so I don't have many real ones." He didn't know if Kendra could understand the amount of disappointment and heartache he had suffered over his life and how it had jaded him. He had been hurt to often by the harshness of reality. However, Kendra seemed to change the context of the question. What was something she could do for him right now. It was a little less 'give your hopes up' and was easier to come up with an answer for. Honestly it was fairly simple, since he come to the mansion he found there was plenty of food, and as such had become his closet thing to a go to comfort. "I'm partial to food" he said, though he didn't specify. Honestly as long as it was edible he would eat it and enjoy it.
He watched as Kendra played with the wildlife. He was somewhat indifferent. He didn't bother animals and they didn't buy him, not the hat and came near enough to him. They were smart enough to keep away from dangerous monsters, unlike people.

As they were standing there Kendra noticed some kids not far off. They seemed to be standing there and pointing at them. Kendra ignored it at first. Then she heard the laughter. It seemed to be directed at them. Her eyes moved back over to Leon. She was nervous. He was so secluded and afraid to open up. She saw what was about to happen almost as if it was coming to her in slow motion, but there wasn't much she could do to stop it. Her face softened and changed into a more sympathetic look as her tiny squierll friend ran up the tree and Kendra stood up.
Don't bother us. Pleas just go away. She thought quietly. "Hey freakshow! That your girlfriend?!?!? You know you can't get a girl like that why don't you go back to the freak show?" Bullies. They Kendra could never understand their motivation. This was a place for mutants. A safe place and yet even here there were kids willing to pick on other kids for being different. Kendra closed her eyes and felt her heart sink as she heard the kid call out. Why? She wondered. What purpose did it serve? The honest truth was the kid was jealous. And trying to show off for his friends. The kid himself was a mutant as were his two friends. Their mutations were unknown, but it was enough for him to feel confident challenging a much larger mutant.
Kendra didn't honestly know how old Leon was. If she had to take a guess she would probably say somewhere in his mid twenties though she was basing that on absolutely nothing other than an educated guess. Kendra turned to the bratty teengers. "Why don'tchu kids shut the hell up? Go wait for puberty or something?" The kid sneered at her. "Already had it baby.... Wanna see?" Kendra felt her cheeks burning with embarrassment. She realized this guy was just trying to see tough. Maybe he wanted an excuse to use his mutation in a fight. The news vilified mutants and this kid, who looked about 17 was the reason why. Kids like him thought the world owed them something.
Kendra stepped in front of Leon and was about to say something else when her eyes caught sight of Leon. Kendra didn't think about anything. She was angry and she was embarrassed and she was appalled that fellow mutant kids had the nerve to pick on someone for being different she was ready to tear into them herself.

Leon barely noticed the kids until Kendra started looking somewhat worried. At first he thought it was something he said, maybe he had misconstrued what she was asking. However, then he saw her gaze was off at a group of kids. He focused in on time to hear the insult about him being a freak show. Honestly he felt very little at this. It was very much in line with what he viewed himself as, well, no he viewed himself worse as he was a monster who was dangerous to be around. However, the girlfriend part was new. Was that what they looked like from afar? That was... weird. Yeah, definitely, weird was the word for it, as it was obvious to anyone that he something like him didn't have relationships. Well, we were talking about of bunch of teens, so maybe common sense wasn't exactly a strong point with them yet.
What surprised him, however, was Kendra's reaction, as she spouted something back in defiance to the claim. He really didn't understand exactly what was going on or why she was making a big fuss about it, but it looked like she was taking it personally. Well, they were accusing her of being the girlfriend of a monster, so he could understand why she could take offense to that. She probably wouldn't want to be accused of something for being around him. Further proof of how he his presence was poisonous to others.
He didn't like that. It was a bit of a new feeling, anger. Well, maybe not anger per say, righteous indignation? Whatever it was, he didn't like seeing someone who had thus far been tolerant of him being insulted. And for once he wasn't in as much danger of poisoning someone. They had just been talking about if he could have a wish it would be to live a life worth living, so maybe this was the one thing he could do before his spines grew back.
Kendra was in front of him. Gently he passed his hand in front of her, moving around in a calm and surprisingly graceful way. It was a bit strange for him to be honest, usually he was terrified of other people getting close to him, but the subsided fear from his plucked quills and whatever it was burning in his chest, be it anger or not, swept that away. He walked over to the kid who had been leading the charge. He towered over him, blue eyes piercing as they fell on him. At this distance the kid's confidence seemed to waiver slightly, though he did his best not to show it.
"Every morning I wake up with spikes embedded in my skin and blood in my fur," he said, his voice cold, with an unfamiliar fury behind it, "My spikes are filled with venom, and I have to constantly keep track of them, as all it take to potentially kill someone is one lost quill." His voice was still calm, but there was a definite build of emotion behind it, "I poison everyone who gets close to me wither I like it or not, and will never have friends without putting them in danger. " His tone was still even, though there was a certain reverberation behind it, like a growl, "Yeah, I'm a freakshow, and worse, a monster, but that's not what bothers me," he said, his hair almost standing on end. If he had had spines they would have certainly been up, but the barbs on the tip of his tail rattled together, "What bothers me is that the one person in this whole school who has, against her better judgement, tried to talk to me has to deal with a bunch of narcissistic spoiled brats accusing her of having some sort of relationship with something like me." He leaned in close, his eyes boring into the kids, who by now looked pretty freaked out. "Do you really want to be the one who finally pushes me over the edge and see just how much of a monster I can be?" He said is a quiet cold whisper, before opening his jaws wide, dislocating them to show off the rows of sharklike teeth, easily able to bite the guys head clean off. The sight was too much and the kid backed off, he and his friends quickly taking off. Leon closed his jaw, which clicked back into place.
Leon for the most part had been bluffing. At least that was what he thought. He hadn't been really mad before for fear of his poison, so he didn't know what he was capable of if he disregarded his usual cation. However the outlet of emotion had been genuine. Leon pent up a lot of emotion, and letting even a small part of that out. Well, it was scary, at least that was what he thought when he thought about some of the things he said. He wouldn't be surprised if Kendra would feel the same way, and hate him because of it.

Kendra watched the scene unfolding before her. She didn't know what he was about to do. Was he going to hurt them? Was he going to tear them limb from limb? Leon was a big guy, and they had it coming. But he didn't he only spoke to them calmly. The words that came out of his mouth though, broke her heart a little. She watched as the kids got terrified and ran off. She thought his intimidating presence had finally made it's point. Kendra couldn't see his many rows of teeth. She didn't see the dislocating of the jaw though she could hear him quite clearly.
Kendra moved over to him. "Hey you o...." She stopped as she place a hand on his arm and felt something jab at her finger. She looked at her finger and saw blood. "Ow!" She cried. That really hurt. Kendra had poked something sharp nestled down into his thick red fur. It wasn't a quill. They hadn't grown back yet. It wasn't even a quill trying to grow back. It was a stick. A stick that had fallen from the tree with the squirell under the influence of a gentle breeze. It had floated down and found it's way into his fur.
Kendra reached over and plucked the stick out of his fur. Looking at it a moment she shook her head lightly and tossed the stick away. "You ok?" She repeated. Sucking on her finger a bit to make the throbbing ache leave her finger. That really hurt. She looked at Leon with sad apologetic eyes.
She felt bad that he had to put up with stuff like that. It wasn't his fault he was different. He came here to probably get away from people like that. We were all mutants here, there was no reason for us to hate each other when there was already so much hate in the world. Kendra couldn't stand people like that. It was ignorant, and small. "For the record...." She said smiling a little. "I wasn't upset that they called me ya girlfriend." "I was upset that they call'ed ya freak show. You're not a freak. You're my friend." She said softly.
Kendra saw above them the sky was beginning to darken a bit. She knew that the perfectly nice, sunny day was going to sour soon. She didn't mind the rain. She didn't know honestly how Leon felt about the rain and getting his fur wet. She couldn't imgine him loving the rain though like she did. "Maybe we should get inside." She said as a suggestion. She was about to grab his arm and pull him inside. Though she didn't. She knew he liked his personal space so she just smiled at him awkwardly and tried her best not to seem upset even though those rude teenagers had made her skin crawl.
