The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

This was a really strange conversation to have while high on painkillers. He hadn't even noticed the bug eating the bug until just now... A cockroach. Great. Roach knew she was here, then. Great.
He grunted in affirmation at her instructions and game plans. In short, they would be in touch. She started leaving, and he absently turned to watch her go.
"Oh, and if you don't hear from me within a few days, assume i'm dead."
"Bleak."
"... I'm glad you are okay." She attempted to leave that at the last word, but he chuckled and replied.
"Ohhh, @#$t, you're never gonna live that down! Careful you don't trip on your heart strings on the way out!" She closed the window. He spoke up. "Don't get too soft! People might start liking you!" He gave her crap until a while after he couldn't see her...
"Be careful you crazy b#$&^..." He stared out the window a bit longer, sighed, and looked at the wall in front of him again.
Well... What now, then? He reached out for a remote at the side of his bed, and then accidentally knocked it off. He then slowly looked over to the door, which was sealed shut. No chance of anyone getting in to grab that for him, huh...
A day and a half later and she was finally cleared to leave her freaking room. Thankfully, she's also been given clearance to visit Saph... although she wasn't entirely sure how that would go.
Attempting to scratch around the annoying, small neck-brace they were forcing her to wear with one hand, she limped the rest of the way down the hall with one crutch and a cast around her left knee. Was this how Saph felt all the time hobbling everywhere? It was super annoying!
She knocked softly before actually entering, while grinning goofily at the one guard standing point outside her boyfriends door. They still hadn't forgiven her for sneaking in the first time.
"...Saph?" Edging the door open, she peeked inside.
The Price Is Right was on... Some old lady was guessing the price on an entertainment center. Saph mumbled.
"600, max. Go 549."
The lady guessed seven hundred, and he shrugged at the tv, and shook his head.
"Actual retail price is... 549.99!"
"See, Shoulda listened, Delores. Now you'll never get that scooter." He shook his head again, and turned as he heard the door open. It was Shelby. He smiled a bit.
"They're letting you walk around now, huh?" He waved her in. "You doin okay?"
Most of her was still hidden by the door, which she promptly corrected by stepping inside fully and shutting the door behind her.
"Better than you!" She chirped, and hustled herself into a chair. Her leg was still stiff, and she had been told that it would be for quite a while. The muscle had some damage it was still recovering from. "Though they won't let me limp around without this stupid crutch yet."
The neck thing wasn't huge... just whiplash, and most of her cuts were either gone, or on the verge of being healed entirely. She leaned her crutch off to the side behind her and turned back to smile at Saph. This was the first time she'd seen him since the first night, after she'd woken up in the room. It had been awful... He'd been intubated still, and the number of tubes and wires attached to him had been staggering.
For a while she wondered if Roach had really succeeded in taking another person from her. Luckily, she'd been able to bribe her nurse into giving her updates on Saph, in exchange for being a model patient and not trying to escape again.
"You look better. How much longer are you expected to have to stay?" She wanted to go home. She wanted her own bed, or rather, their bed. She wanted to hold him and assure herself that he was really okay and that she hadn't lost him.
"Better than you! Though they won't let me limp around without this stupid crutch yet." Saphirus looked about at his bed, and shrugged, letting the tone grow a little more serious for a second.
"What happened? What did he do to you?" He looked her up and down... She said she was better of than him, and that was true, but he definitely hadn't gotten out unscathed. His heart beat very quickly for a second, and he had to actively calm himself.
#$#%ing bastard... There weren't many people he would kill if they were helpless in this world, but if he ran into Roach there would be no question. He got to thinking about his talk with Megan...
"You look better. How much longer are you expected to have to stay?"
"Uhh... About a week or so, now that Andrea stopped by... Doctors aren't sure what to make of it exactly. Apparently that's something she's been running around doin... She visited you, too." He shook his head a bit, slightly in a lingering disbelief, but more from the awkwardness of the situation.
She explained the details of her injuries. "Threw me through a case... whiplash, and I got shot in the leg. That one kinda sucks."
And I couldn't do a damn thing to stop it... He banished those thoughts, and nodded silently.
"We're gonna get him, Shelby. We have to."
He reached out a hand for hers, and then sorta chuckled. "Yeah, the little lady was definitely real, and so are the snakes. Very real. Things could turn people to stone by biting them." He looked up a bit in thought. "Honestly, she's probably one of the most dangerous mutants I've ever met. Really nice though. Wouldn't hurt a fly." The X-Man looked back to Shelby, and nodded.
"Everything turned out okay, huh? We're still here. We made it through..."
She nodded at him, and pushed herself up onto her good leg when he reached for her hand. Entwining one hand with his, she leaned over the edge of his bed and smiled.
"Yep. Shouldn't be so hard either. I think I poked out one of his eyes."
Pressing a quick kiss on him, she leaned a little farther back and glanced down at where his bandages would be. He was fully decked out in his gown now, instead of just half dressed. She couldn't see any of the many bandages still on him.
"... You scared me, ya know." She glanced at him, "You weren't reacting to anything." She fiddled with his fingers, and then the hospital bracelet around his wrist.
"Heh... You should have heard your nurse cussing up a storm about how your power. They couldn't get anything in on that side." She nodded her chin at his invulnerable side.
He looked a little impressed when she said she poked out an eye, but then defaulted to scolding her after she planted a kiss on him. "You know you should run when things like that happen. Those kinda people are dangerous. You're very lucky..." But yes, he was a bit proud. He did teach her a few things, after all.
"... You scared me, ya know. You weren't reacting to anything."
His eye rested on his legs for a moment, underneath their blankets, and he smiled a bit, putting on a strong face. "Alright, I'll give you a wink next time, just to let you know I'm okay, eh?"
A grin slowly appeared on his face. "Heh... You should have heard your nurse cussing up a storm about how your power. They couldn't get anything in on that side." That made him laugh.
"Yeah, they don't tend to like me a whole lot in hospitals. I'm a pain in the ass to treat. Still, better than women who leave their bed without permission, I hear."
She huffed at him as he scolded her, and grouched when he joked about winking at her. What a jerk! Then he moved on to bring up the fact that she'd gotten chewed out for sneaking out of bed, and she flushed a little. "Jerk!"
Huffing again, she dragged her chair closer so she could be closer to him while leaning against his bed.
"I'm being released today. In about an hour I think. A few officers are going to swing by and pick me up." She paused, watching him to gauge his reaction. "I don't know if they will be dropping me off at the school, or if I will be having a few sleepovers at various officers houses. They haven't fully disclosed what the plan is yet."
She paused again, turning her gaze away. "I think they'll be fine with me visiting you a lot though. I figured I could spend some time here if they give the O.K." She caught sight of his program and grinned. "Unless you are enjoying your mini vacation with the Price Is Right."
Saph blinked a few times as she called him a jerk, and turned to look behind himself to see if the was saying that to someone else. "Well, pardon me for caring, then" He huffed a bit, and then shifted uncomfortably.
He was green with envy when he heard she was getting released today. "Well... I think what's most important is that you make yourself as hard to find as possible. Check for bugs before you leave, check after you arrive. Call me if anything happens. I'll beat someone to death with a hospital bed if I have to."
He smiled when she said she would visit. "You be safe doin it... I think... I have a feeling things are about to get more hectic than they have ever been. But hopefully when it's all over, i'll make it so that son of a bug never hurts you again..."
He turned to look out the window, thinking of his little visit with Megan. He wasn't sure if he could really count on her... She was erratic, and selfish as she was now... But he knew her from another time, another place... If just a little bit of that other person was there in this Megan, then he felt confident that practically nothing would stop them from knocking at Roaches door.
This time, he would be the one to fight him. There would be no mercy.
She sighed, but nodded at him nonetheless. She wasn't the best at hiding. Kinda sucked at it, if her previous attempts were anything to go on. She chuckled at his joke and ran a hand through her hair. A piece of glass fell out. "Let's leave the beds out of it. I don't thin either of us could afford that bill."
"You be safe doin it... I think... I have a feeling things are about to get more hectic than they have ever been. But hopefully when it's all over, i'll make it so that son of a bug never hurts you again..."
She watched him silently. He turned away from her and seemed lost in though. Her brows creased together and she glanced toward the window as well. He was clearly intent on doing something about it, although she wasn't exactly sure what that was.
But... what was she going to do about it? She sure as hell wasn't about to sit around and wait for someone else to fix things. She wasn't willing to give that monster a chance to take someone important away from her again. Her gaze shifted back to Saph, resting on his clothed chest where there were surely bandaged hidden beneath.
Roach had very nearly taken him from her too.
Bitterness boiled in her stomach, and she sucked in a shallow breath through her nose. She was going to have to figure out some way of dealing with this... and she was going to have to keep Saph in the dark.
"... I was gonna wait and surprise you when I got my official certificate, but... well... kinda can't think of anything else to say at the moment." She fiddled with his hospital bracelet again, and rested her chin on the edge of the bed.
"I've been studying for something on the side for the last few months, and I only just finished up my classes last week." Considering how he wanted her to be extra careful and not draw attention to herself, this kinda flew in the face of that logic.
"I've been studying forensic facial reconstruction, and Criminal Sketch artistry. Once I build up a portfolio and find someone willing to let me work for them, I'll probably be spending quite a bit of time away from the school." She paused, then quickly added, "...but still surrounded by law enforcement, just so you know."
"... I was gonna wait and surprise you when I got my official certificate, but... well... kinda can't think of anything else to say at the moment. I've been studying for something on the side for the last few months, and I only just finished up my classes last week."
Saph tilted his head a bit. Not sure what she was really talking about. Did she finish her art degree early? He smiled a bit. That was good news!
"I've been studying forensic facial reconstruction, and Criminal Sketch artistry. Once I build up a portfolio and find someone willing to let me work for them, I'll probably be spending quite a bit of time away from the school. ..but still surrounded by law enforcement, just so you know."
His face went a little more blank as she went on... She was going to... go work for the police department? How should he feel about that? It might be dangerous. But, what was safe nowadays?
"Um... Okay... Alright, then. That's fine. Uh... Why, I guess? I mean, is this something you've wanted to do for a while, now? Or cause... well, him?" He realized he sounded a little more negative than confused, but she'd never talked about doing anything like this before.
"I mean, if that's what you want to do, awesome, and I know you'd do a good job, but... Kinda outa left field a bit. You never mentioned it."
She watched him carefully as she explained, and waited for his reaction. It was... well, kinda what she had expected, really. She shook her head slightly.
"Not solely because of him, but in part a little bit." She shifted slightly so she could look at him better. "The classes I've already taken for my degree covered a good bit of what is expected for a job like this, and with all of the time I have been spending around law enforcement nowadays I noticed that there is apparently a need for people who can put faces to names. Not only to catch criminals, but also to help find missing people, and to put faces to the dead." She was sure he knew about sketch art, but wasn't sure if he knew much about facial reconstruction and what it entailed.
"I never mentioned it because it's something I've only recently taken and interest in, and I wasn't really sure how you would react." She smiled guiltily. "That's why I waited so long to bring it up."
He observed her carefully as she talked. She was honest with him, as far as he could tell. He knew what she was talking about, though he wasn't well versed in any of it. He'd used sketch artists in the past, but facial reconstruction? That was more cold case and high profile territory.
He couldn't say he really understood her motivations here, but the fact that she was pursuing this told him something he didn't know about her. He was still learning her, after all, and it judging from her lack of confidence in telling him about this, she was still learning him.
"So... I'll be honest, I don't get the why, here, a whole lot... but... If that's what you wanna do, it's what you wanna do... How can I help?"
He shifted in bed again, and then looked down, opening his hands. "Honestly, can't do a whole lot right now, but you know.... I know people."
