The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

When someone nicknamed this place "The Big Apple" they weren't exaggerating. It was definitely big, massive being maybe the best word choice and even within the week she would be there she wouldn't begin to cover half the city. Corrine couldn't help staring at the concrete jungle, eyeing the many buildings of steel, glass, and concrete that so reminded her of Atlanta.
Though nothing reminded her more of the big city in the south more so than the crowds and traffic. People were coming and going, possibly heading somewhere in a hurry or just taking their time yet majority of them just pushed and shoved to get past. And the traffic...well, it was a lot like the I-75 highway heading into Atlanta where the roads were congested, everyone moving slowly forward or at a stand still, honking and yelling profanities in their frustration. It was almost like home away from home which gave some comfort for the young southern girl since she was a bit home sick. She had come here to do a few interviews when seeking to apply for other places and a few law firms and NYPD had made contact after seeing her resume.
Of course, none of this meant a guarantee hire. Corrine only came to get the interviews done and would have to wait for an answer within the week or next few weeks since there had been other interviews lined up before and after her. Some would likely immediately reject the possible chance of hiring a young mutant woman, only being courteous with having an interview because refusing could mean a lawsuit if she has felt like it. And no one wanted that on their hands. But, Corrine was taking the chance that things could work out and if not she still had chances elsewhere across the country while she worked for the Atlanta Police Department in their CSI unit for the time being.
Seeming as she was here however, Corrine was taking time to check out the city and try to memorize some spots if she could. Right now though she had come across the famous Time Square where you could find a lot of places to look around, including the Pedestrian Plaza. But as she stood there on the corner, Corrine was left a bit in awe and puzzlement, not entirely sure of where to start from there.
Another protest, another call for Linely, another dispersal, another day at work. At least that's what Spasm thought walking home from today's work. Time Square was a favorite for protests, and this one had been quite nasty. No wonder there was more traffic than usual. People tended to straighten up when they saw the uniform though-and he was in uniform this time.
Then-a woman standing on the corner, she looked a little puzzled-perhaps lost. She probably wasn't from around here. There wasn't much in the way of crime going on, but you always had to be on the lookout for pickpokets and whatnot. No matter where you go, Police Officers are often the most helpful when asking for directions. He approached the woman , "if you're going to dress like a typical cop, you might as well behave like one" he mumbled to himself.
He smiled at the woman "Hello there Ma'm , you look a little lost, anything I can help with?"-hang on. He'd seen this woman at the precinct before-was she applying for a job in the NYPD?
It seemed almost feel like hours that Corrine had stood there, looking at the different restaurants, shops, and theaters. The choices there made her indecisive of where to go or where to start looking first and probably only made her look like a rather dumbfounded tourist. Though, she kinda was a tourist at the moment.
But the sound of someone approaching finally snapped her attention away from the sights and she immediately became flustered with embarrassment. Her puzzlement had attracted an officer walking by, maybe more so than the ionized gas slowly billowing off her form. She looked like a normal human and the purple ting in her eyes could have been mistaken for unique contacts, but she wasn't hard to identify as being a mutant with gas practically coming out of your body. "As embarrassing as it is to admit sir, I could use a hand. Maybe some advice of where to begin first." Corrine admitted with a sheepish smile, "I've never been to New York before so I must look like a lost sheep." She tried to joke, but jokes weren't exactly her forte.
Though as she looked at the officer before her she could see he was a young one, a few years older than herself at best. And not to mention looking slightly familiar when she thought about it. "Have I seen you before by any chance? Maybe at one of the precincts?" Corrine asked curiously.
Linely noticed the ionised gas emanating from her body.He knew his chemistry-this stuff was pretty dangerous if not handled properly. She was definitely a mutant. The purple tinge in her eyes as she looked up at him was somewhat of a giveaway as well-though that could have been just some strange out-of-state fashion.
"We all start out as newcomers at some point" Linely's extremely rp British accent was a dead giveaway that he wasn't originally from NYC either. "but being part of the Mutant Related Crimes precinct, I've dealt with sheep-shifters before, and it's pretty obvious that isn't your mutation" A bad pun. Cringe worthy in fact. Still he hoped it went down well.
Yes, she was that lady, the assessment hadn't been fully completed yet, the MRC division would still want a demonstration of her mutation, under controlled conditions. Her CV however was rather impressive.from what he'd been told. He'd only seen her in passing, and he wasn't part of the assessment team. She could even be his police partner , he was in need of one , the bigwigs had decided. "I was about to say, you're applying for a position in the police aren't you?" He offered his hand. "PD Joseph Linely-also known as Spasm".
"I'm no sheep shifter sir, but I'll make sure to look out for them." Corrine said with a light chuckle, actually finding the pun a bit amusing. "Hope they aren't too much trouble." She said with a slight grin. It may not have been the greatest joke in the world but it was far better than her attempt at a joke before hand. Or maybe she just had a weird sense of humor compared to most other people. However you wanted to take it.
But she was intrigued with knowing this man, Joseph as he introduced himself as was part of the city's MRC. It had certainly been a division she was looking into but not the only one. Right now she was seeking just another place to expand her experience, add onto what she had a chance to learn so far through her college career while holding high hopes of continuing her education for a Master's sooner or later. "It's nice to meet you Joseph, my names Corrine Voclain, rookie CSI and hopefully Criminal profiler someday. But sometimes I go by Aegis." Corrine introduced herself, giving his hand a shake with her own but not harming him with the gases. Though that was probably one good thing about her ability, it wasn't harmful that she knew of, perhaps warm but it didn't seem to truly do anything to hurt someone thus far.
"And yes, I am hoping to expand my horizons. There are many places in the country to go but with New York being so massive I figured it would be one of the first places to try applying to." Corrine added, confirming his question. It may not have exactly been her first choice in the beginning but joining the NYPD in some manner might not have been such a bad idea. "And glad to see I'm not the only one who'd be from out of town." She added with a smile, catching his obvious English accent which was a little comforting to know if she got the job.
The joke had gone down well-fantastic. "No they aren't really too much trouble, you do have to keep shepherding them though" another bad pun. Still he hoped he was making a good impression. "You don't have to call me "sir" by the way, Joseph is fine until you're working in the NYPD "
The ionized gas around her hand was warm, but seemed to be well controlled-rather flammable though, fortunately -he didn't smoke. "Quite, New York is big, and with plenty to deal with. If it's not the rogue META bots, it's some crazed mutant declaring himself to be the one true genus and proceeding to murder as many non mutants as he can get his hands upon." So they needed as many hands on board as they could get. Especially mutants.
His English accent was comforting to her, good to know -though he'd been around for a few years. "It can be quite confusing explaining to some people that you're from the original Boston and not Boston, Massachusetts, but generally people fit right in, we need everyone to work together.Particularly when you don't know when the crisis is going to happen."
"I'll remember the next time I run into you, Joseph." Corrine told him, knowing she called him "sir" out of respect. But seeming as he was fine with just being called by his actual name she would drop the sir for the time being, or it might end up slipping from time to time.
Corrine though could certainly share that same concern. "I think I know what you might be dealing with. Atlanta isn't exactly much safer, maybe even almost as bad as New York." She told him. Though Corrine didn't directly live in Atlanta it was hard not having to pass through it or near it when going some place within that general area, within the hour-and-a-half to two hour range of driving to certain counties or towns. But one also almost rarely went through the week without hearing something happen from gang-related crimes to the random robberies. Heck, they even had highway drive-bys, three that she knew of that had happened in the past two years. Did New York ever have such things? She couldn't help wondering and kept in mind to maybe ask someone one of these days.
Working together...Such a phrase seemed spoken often when it came to this line of work but wasn't something everyone agreed with. "In a crisis you hope everyone would work together. But that rarely seems the case." Corrine said with a frown, having seen a few Atlanta cops that likely would sooner watch you burn than help you. "Hopefully though such a crisis doesn't happen for sometime." She added, trying to be optimistic.
"Even in the open streets these days you have to be careful" Linely replied "On top of the usual gang related crime , highway shootings , robberies, you get these supposedly peaceful mutant protests which almost always end up in riots. Either it's some human or mutant supremacist whack-job, or it's a mutant terror group, or just a fight breaks out that spreads through the entire crowd. That's not even taking into account the solo mutant attacks and rogue META bots arresting people for being mutants rather than committing crime."
In other words, there was always a crisis in New York, Linely had never known any different from it in his service. "We have to work together, as there's always something on. Of course mutants aren't all committing crime, some like ourselves are there to maintain law and order on these streets." It did mean that New York could be more dangerous though, as Linely was bitterly aware.
"You have to remain positive though, there are many people working to make this world a better place, and that is worth fighting for." He smiled slightly at this hopeful thought . "Sorry, I'm sounding like one of those comic-book heroes again."
