The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Daria's purring slowly faded as a smile spread on her face. Mike's voice was the last thing she heard as she drifted into slumber-and she didn't really want it any other way.
The day was overcast, but thankfully the funeral only held fog, rather than the rain that it felt like it should have.
Mike held Daria's hand as he stared at the casket. His face was impassive, but she could feel the emotions he was feeling but not willing to show in front of his father.
In fact, it looked like he and his father were both trying to outdo each other for stony expressions.

Daria's other hand held a silk kerchief that was damp with her tears. Judge asters had been a very amiable person and she'd grown rather fond of him. She was passed crying at the moment-she'd just stopped. Now she stared placidly at the body that once held sucha beautiful soul.
He looks so peaceful she thought to Mike in an attempt to keep him calm. She hadn't met Mike's father and wasn't going to say anything unless Mike did. She simply watched silently..like a cat.

Daria smiled gently at Sarah who smiled back. It was so hard seeing the girl who was so full of energy just the day before now so solemn. Daria squeezed Mike's hand back. She took her kerchief and dabbed away the tear.
In my family we're a little religious..we always say that our loved ones have gone to be with the Father. But, at times like these its hard to feel like the higher power is on your side. So what I take comfort in is knowing that the other's person soul is always with mine, guiding me and watching me...just like Pops is going to watch over you. You'll make him even prouder than he already is, I know it. She had been so concerned with making sure Mike felt better she didn't even notice that his family was watching. When she did though, she flashed them a quick smile.

Yeah, she said nodding solemnly. I love you too. She bit her lip as the sermon ended. It made things so final.
"Amen" was a word that vibrates in the mind, bouncing from wall to wall of one's conciousness and seems to always be parallel with "goodbye". Daria felt the tears well up again and she quickly dabbed at her eyes. Her ears drooped to press sadly against her head.
Mike held his arm around her as they walked through the cemetary back toward the cars.
"Michael?"
Daria could feel Mike stiffen at his father's voice. "Yes, sir."
Mr. Asters looked like an older Michael, but with all of the compassion and life sucked out of him. His voice was cold, his expression unreadable, and his manner reserved. "You need to come with us. The will's being read at your grandfather's old office by his partner. He specified that he wanted it done as soon as possible."
To make fighting over it even more unseemly, Mike thought quietly, but he just nodded. His father hadn't acknowledged Daria yet, but likely he wouldn't have acknowledged Mike either if he hadn't been forced to.
"Daria, this is my father, my mother, and my brother Johnny." John visibly scowled at being called 'Johnny,' but said nothing. "Everyone, this is Daria. She'll be coming with us."
He gave them a look, almost daring them to say anything. Mr. Asters just nodded, offering his hand. "Hello, Daria," he said. Mrs. Asters and Johnny followed suit. As Johnny did, he gave a humorless, almost sarcastic smirk at Mike. His resemblance of Mike was almost frightening because something seemed... off about him.

Daria proceeded to shake their hands. She had told Mike before leaving not to screw with anyone's minds so that they wouldn't look at the ears and tail-she was determined to overcome her insecurity. She'd been getting looks all day but had been so concerned with Mike she hadn't noticed. Her ears perked up a little as she was trying to be friendly and respectfully sorrowful. She shook each of their hands, smiling brightly.
When she shook Johnny's hand however she had to fight back the urge to hiss. She swallowed hard and kept her smile. "I'm loving your brother right now" she thought to Mike, jokingly. The fact that she was a bit creeped out eminated in her conciousness as she squeezed his hand.
Mike caught the thought, and narrowed his eyes in concentration while no one was looking. Yeah... that's Johnny for you. Go for the eyes, they're his weak point.
He couldn't feel anything disturbing from Johnny... and that in itself seemed to put him off.
They got to the limo without incident, and to the office without conversation.

There was an erie silence as they all settled in the office. The kind of silence that makes clothes ruffling and jackets zipping sound very loud. It was a small office and they all got seats except for Sarah who chose to sit in Daria's lap so she could be near her and Mike. This too got a disproving look from the family but Daria didn't care.
"Let's get down to business," Mr. Lerner said as he pulled out the will. All of Mike's extended family was present, and listening.
Mr. Lerner went through all of the usual legal-speak until he got to the real part of the will. "I, Robert Asters, being of sound mind, hereby present my last will and testement.
To my son Richard, I leave one quarter of my estate. Should he be unable or unwilling to accept this inheritance, it is to pass to his son Andrew, held in the trust of Richard or his wife, Ellen, until Andrew reaches the age of eighteen."
"To my granddaughter Sarah, I leave one quarter of my estate, to be held in the trust of my son Alexander and his wife Katharine until Sarah reaches the age of eighteen. The stipulations of this trust are that Alexander and Katharine are to have no access to Sarah's inheritance except to pay for her schooling or any medical expenses that they are unable to afford."
"To my grandson Johnathan, I leave one quarter of my estate, to be held in trust in the same manner as my granddaughter Sarah's inheritance."
"To my grandson Michael, I leave one quarter of my estate. Should he be unable or unwilling to accept his inheritance, it is to be divided equally among all of my other inheritors."
Michael's father, needless to say, did not look pleased as he heard this.

Daria felt Sarah tense up. She winced because the little girl reminded her of herself and how she used to get when her parents and grandparents faught. She pulled the girl further back on her lap and pressed her mouth and nose against the back of the girls head, her hair smelled like strawberries. She didn't want to say anything but she did her best to keep Sarah comfortable because she knew the feeling all too well.
