The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>> "I've never heard of anything like that befo... Sorry, I guess it must effect me too."
Gemma watched the girl catch her breath as she stepped outside her aura. Obviously she was also affected by her powers - or lack thereof. Oops.
>>"don't worry about it. I'll be fine once I'm out of your aura. I can leave these two in good hands."
"I got it" she smiled, letting everyone get a taste of the cookies. They seemed to have turned out well.
"Because of the effects you have just seen" she said, still leaning against the counter to allow the three of them space outside her aura, but still in the kitched "I usually prefer to know what exactly everyone in the Mansion can do with their powers. Gives me a heads up on the effects I have on them. Sometimes comes in handy."
Like when kids throw a hissy fit, or get in a fight.
"I realize it is a personal question, but if you are okay with it, I would like to know all the same."
Serena smiled for a moment and nodded as Gemma explained things and she nibbled a cookie. She wondered what Shin's power was, he seemed a fair bit older than her, so she expected he'd probably have control/know how to use it.
And then Gemma asked her what her mutation was.
Serena froze. Her face became deathly pale. She was freaking the hell out! What did she say? There was a little girl in the room, there were lots of people in the room.
What would they think if they found out? Would they think she was some form of freak? No, that was silly, this was a mansion full of other mutants, so logically there were probably mutants with even more creepy mutations than Serena.
But still, it was scary, it was wierd, and she couldn't control it... it just happens. "I urm... I... Uh, I can..." Serena muttered, she couldn't get the words out.

Continuing to watch how Shin and Serena reacted near Gemma made Victoria wonder about the two. She was glad everyone was ok however. Gemma explained things more as well as making a mention of liking to know what others abilities were. It made sense to Victoria. She was sure Gemma used such knowledge to make sure nothing bad happened to those living in the mansion.
Serena started to reply but hesitated. Victoria piped right up in her typical cheerful voice. “I don’t break!” A big smile and nod accompanied her declaration. That should be good enough right? She didn’t need to know about having to feed on blood…maybe later.

"Not breaking is good," Shin commented, snagging another cookie off his plate. How many had he had, now? He'd lost count, what with the not-being-able-to.
"If you're nervous about your power, Serena, there are classes the mansion has where you can train it. Practice it. So you get a handle and learn what all you can do."
She'd seemed nervous, what with the stuttering. He could only assume the worst. Chicken-Noodle-Soup-mancing.

>>"I urm... I... Uh, I can..."
Serena, like many new mutants, seemed to be very nervous about revealing her powers. She was obviously not comfortable with them yet. In the light of what she had said about herself so far, it was no wonder. Gemma allowed her time. Victoria was not that concerned.
>>“I don’t break!”
>>"Not breaking is good, If you're nervous about your power, Serena, there are classes the mansion has where you can train it. Practice it. So you get a handle and learn what all you can do."
"Shin is right" Gemma nodded with a small smile "That is what we do. We make sure you learn how to use and control your mutation, since it is a part of who you are. But not all of it, though" she added "We also have regular classes."
Serena smiled awkwardly. She could see that people were trying to make her more comfortable, but something was interfering. She just couldn't talk about it openly. Especially. In front of. Victoria.
The little girl was sweet and appeared to be incredibly innocent. And she was invulnerable? Well... She probably wouldn't like something as disturbing as blood manipulation.
Well, at least, that's what Serena thought her power was. She HOPED that's all it was. "I ugh... I... I can... I," the blonde was seriously nervous. And uncomfortable.

Victoria gave Shin a smile and a nod then nommed a cookie. All for appearances of course.
The brief run down of what takes place at the mansion from Gemma made the little blonde think. She didn’t have to control the fact that she couldn’t be physically hurt. It’s just how she was. The thing she needed to get a handle on was her hunger.
Turning to Serena and trying to help her new friend feel more comfortable Victoria gave the taller girl a hug. “It’s ok Serena. It must have a really long or funny name so you don’t know how to say it, huh?”

"Couldn't be worse than that guy we have here whose power is butt-bouncing. Like couch cushions mixed with exercise balls. He's surprisingly cool about it. I--" A ringing sound cut him off.
The Asian's hand dropped to his pocket and fumbled for a few rings before finding the offending device. He flipped open his phone, and answered. One finger went up in the jive for 'wait a minute while i get this'. He did his best to keep quiet, so they could keep up their conversation. A few moments later, he said "Sorry, I gotta go. It's been great. Nice meeting you. There's a giant broccoli downtown. Gotta help." That said, he stumbled his way up, snagged a final cookie off his plate, and left.

Shin's phone rang and interrupted the conversation. Gemma looked at Serena. Whatever her ability was, she was the opposite of comfortable about admitting it, and it started to give Gemma an uneasy feeling. As much as she wanted to help every single mutant child on the planet, she also had responsibilities to the ones already in the school.
>>"Sorry, I gotta go. It's been great. Nice meeting you. There's a giant broccoli downtown. Gotta help."
"Be safe" Gemma nodded, watching the X-man walk out. Once he was gone, she turned back to the girls.
"Shin is right, no one is going to judge you here based on your powers, and whatever they are, we can help you control them. We have seen hundreds of students in this school, all of them unique, so there is a good chance you can't surprise us anymore. And even if you do... we are quite adaptable."
