The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

**Tetsuya Shinbo, the golden knight, flew over the grounds on his Porygon. It was cold. As he flew, he saw Carrick in form with a rider. He drew close enough to talk.
“Hey! Beat a couple for me. Make up for the one I saved you from!! Heard he attacked a prison before we got him. All over the news! Crazy how he—“
Shin casually turned and caught a firebolt on the flat of his blade. The bolt had been headed straight for Carrick’s flank.
He glanced at Carrick. “Happy hunting.”
Then he blazed down on electric soldier Porygon to beat up some mystics. Lenna watched through her scope as the Asian sent the mystic that had just attacked him flying with a swing of his blunt blade. Then the knight retreated as missiles pelted him, rose up above them, then dove in again scattering ranks.

Tetsuya Shinbo Shin finished summoning his golden GARO armor (google GARO) and a great big flying Porygon Pokémon mount construct. He also had a seven foot horse slayer sword. It had taken time to make it all, an he’d had time. Forewarned is fore-armed. Th blade wasn’t sharp but it was big and would knock people down, hard. It could have been sharp, but he had wanted it dulled. He essentially had a large baseball bat. He was defending the mansion with a baseball bat. It was just seven feet long, and looked like a sword.

Tetsuya Shinbo Shard was present, fully in shard armor directly over real armor. The white coat Kealey had made him, the reinforced one with armor inserts. He had told his friend Aurum’s sister about it, so she was there too in a “spell armored” duster. He supposed she was in SUPER, maybe she’d tell them, maybe not, but she was a friend of the family who had gone to the mansion and knew everyone, Sam, Rebecca, etc, so… he had told her over the phone. When she had arrived in-person, and on such short notice too, her face had changed.

When he had been younger, he had liked that one movie about the lost sunken city. You know, the one with the scientist in glasses? Who went deep below the earth, and, well, maybe “younger” wasn’t accurate because he had not been watching American cartoons when he was young. Like 10. But catching up on American pop culture at the ripe old age of 25? Sure. Okay. So, Atlantis. He knew about it. He had not really interacted with it in any way, shape, or form in real life. So, this mission would be all sorts of interesting! Educational field trips, yeah!
Yay.
He followed, and looked, and listened. And learned.
Details, big plans, stuff ended here. Interesting.
He bowed when they bowed to the supposed queen, and was very polite. In his white Kealey-designed overcoat, with the shard-armor overlay that blended into the fabric. Armored head to foot, and nobody would notice at all. Maybe that would have been a faux pas if they had noticed? Being armored in millions of tiny razor blades as hard as diamonds? Probably. Good thing nobody had noticed then, right? Okay.
The supposed queen made a comment that seemed quite rude, towards Rebecca. Suddenly, he was glad for the fact that he was secretly armed. Because people who are rude to his friends deserve what they get.
He kept his face neutral, and did not insult the queen. He really wanted to.
It was like, hey. Rebecca may be a mystic, but she has also helped you in the past, and she’s a good mystic, so maybe cut her more slack than you already are?
He had no problems with Rebecca’s status, or the fact she was a non-mutant in a mutant-based team, by the way! She was still the same person inside.
”Thank you,” Tetsuya Shinbo said to the queen. And did not create an international incident by adding “you hag. Maybe if you dislike mystics so much, you’d help instead of being openly hostile to those of us who want to help you all.” It was a good thing he was not the grade of psychic mutant who could project thoughts into peoples’ heads right then! Because that would have been problematic. Almost as problematic as projecting a tiny, razor-sharp, diamond-hard, mental triangle inside the cavity of someone’s skull. Which, hm, he had never thought to try until just then… and immediately disregarded as a bad idea.
He followed. He looked. He listened. He learned. He kept his thoughts to himself.

The first gunfire shot drew mansion attention when a staff member with heightened senses heard the noise. She was a nice old lunch lady, just doing her job. Carrick actually knew her, truth be told. All students at the mansion would. She had a habit of giving extra food to kids she thought needed “a bit of padding for the wee bones.” Miss Rogan had given Carrick extra food several times. Apples, portions of potatoes and gravy, even dessert. Especially dessert. She loves giving out brownies. Miss Rogan contacted the nearest member of staff, and from there, news traveled fast.
A math teacher heard the news minutes later, and got a student teacher to fill in for his class while he investigated. Having been a police officer years ago, it would not have been his first time investigating gun shots. As an X, it would not be his first fight. As he walked out of the building and onto mansion grounds, his mind focused on a form. Golden lion armor (google GARO tv). He built it up around himself using millions of tiny triangular razor sharp psychic barriers, stacked mathematically for perfect composition. For protection, from the barriers themselves, as well as other things. They were diamond-hard, made of pure imagination. Once they were formed, which took about two minutes real-time, he focused on summoning the massive black and gold sword that went with it.
He took his time with forming the blade. Because he had taken flight. That split his concentration between a good number of things. Flight, shard armor, forming the sword, and scanning the grounds for sign of what had caused the gun shot. Triangular pupils narrowed beneath the lion helmet
His flight speed was 75MPH. The first thing he noticed, when he started putting it to use, was a trace of smoke trail left from a minute earlier. It had largely dissipated, but there was still enough to show him something and lead him somewhere. The second gun shot lead him the rest of the way.
A voice in his comm ear piece told him what the lunch lady had heard. Her hearing was good enough, now that she had gone outside and stood on-watch, to pin point distance and direction, which she told him. Tetsuya Shinbo sure was glad they kept her on staff. Useful in a pinch. He headed that way. By the time he reached her “coordinates,” ( which he mentally mapped and tracked with his “math brain”. As useless as that sounds), the sword was mostly formed. He finished it as he stopped to hover 100 feet above the tree line, with his back to the sun.
Tetsuya Shinbo, AKA Shard, looked down on the scene. The trees obscured most of it, but it being January, foliage wasn’t too dense. He saw big, bulky wings shifting beneath sparse foliage, a very large man in black, and the glint off a very large firearm.
Who brings a gun anywhere near a school zone? Psychopaths, that’s who.
There was something going on. The time it had taken, from the second gunshot until he had arrived had been several seconds, not instantaneous. Sorry wing man. In a perfect world, he would have teleported behind the guy with the gun and said something like “nothing personnel, kid.” But this was not a perfect world. All he could do from his distance was rush downwards at 75 MPH, hoping to bring a massive six foot long broadsword down on the barrel of the gun. And hope he was not too late to prevent a THIRD shot from going off.
The Asian said nothing as he flew downwards like a golden missile, aiming to sweep the gun from the gunmans hands in a speed-assisted downward strike. If we’re being fair, the sounds of air resistance against armor may have given some clue of his rapid descent. As would the golden shine of his armor in front of the backdrop of the sun. Ninja, Shard was not.
As he landed with his strike, Shard roared like a lion. Which was not deafening, seeing as he was not a lion or part lion, like some sort of gryphon. Merely an aging Asian man pretending to be a golden lion knight from a 20 year old Japanese television show. But he had practiced it in the mirror a lot. Which is pathetic, but… it sounded a little intimidating, rather than pathetic itself! So hey! He had that going for him at least. Which was nice!
”You’re by a school asshole! Did you really expect to go unnoticed? THINK!!!” he screamed.

Oh boy. He’d actually gone weee, hadn’t he? Like, out of joy. Not the other kind.
X flew his route, and came back to report.
A dome? A pile of crows? He ran that through his mind in an attempt to make sense of it. But before he could finish that thought, he was interrupted. By crows. Talking.
”Supposed to say corn...” He muttered.
Then he told X to prepare for trouble. He made it double by adding a layer of shards over the kids clothes. A bit of extra impact protection to go with the cool x wing pack. Then, he moved them both through the crowd of crows.
Ever see a DeLorean drive through a crowd of crows? Just imagine it. Birds scattered, left and right. He did not aim to hurt them. They moved out of self preservation, although some did swoop in after they had dodged, to try and peck the car. Or X. X was probably worse off, being outside the car.
The Asian hurried then down to the roof, where he landed. Shards flew away from the car to reform into an image he had kept in his head the whole time. A white tuxedo with a white shirt and tie. White shoes. The excess shards piled neatly into the shape of a suitcase on the rooftop nearby. He paused as he looked around, then turned to X.
”Too many things. Sorry.”
The strain was too much. He stole Xs shards and let them join the suitcase with the others. He bent to pick it up, and bashed a crow aside.
”Okay! Who the hell is Nelchior?? I’ve come to bargain. With some diplomacy!!” He smacked another crow, to punctuate the point.

Crows crows crows. Was Oprah in town? Because you get a crow and you get a crow and you...
It was crazy. What kind of mutant could do this? Aside from Liz. Maybe they should have checked with her first...
No one had been attacked yet, but— what were they doing?
The time to shred crows was not now. Now was the time to investigate. X had pointed out several places to look into. Well, two at least. The park, and the rooftop.
His gut told him, shin, investigate the rooftop. Because you’re flying and it is right there.
He told X to climb back in, then turned the car around so they were pointed towards the rooftop. The DeLorean sailed through the air, practically riding the tail feathers of a few crows (who scattered with annoyed caws). The Asian pulled the DeLorean to a stop several meters above the roof.
True to his word, the rooftop was swarming with crows. Shin popped the full-wing door again.
”Ever rush a group of birds in Central Park to see them scatter?” He asked. Then, he shoved X out the side of the flying car with a shout of ”You’re about to!”
He could almost hear X go weeee as he controlled the man’s descent towards the birds. The X wings were out, folks. The X wings were out!
Shard flew X in a wide scouting path, bringing the car along so X didn’t escape his range. Then, he brought him down quick to buzz the roof, and brought him back up to fly next to the car.
He “rolled down” his window and looked to the X for an update.

Jokers to the left of him, jokers to the right.
And I’m stuck in the middle with you~ he sung to himself. Standing above it all, watching from the God room.
Cmon X, don’t get naked... He mentally cheered the guy on.
The kid crouched, focused, and boom. Clowns flew in all directions. The one pennywise in the bunch hadn’t stood a chance. But... and there was a but. A rather big but. Had the clothing survived the attack?
Shin’s voice came down from the danger room intercom.
”I can see how happy victory makes you, but... you sort of failed the task I set.” he said.
There was a beeping on the communication device clipped to the front of his white coat. He picked it up and spoke into it, listened. Hung it up and clipped it away.
The voice came down to X again. ”Okay X. Finish your crowing and hit the showers. We’ve got a mission. Grab a spare set of clothes and we’ll hit the road.”
~~~
The road, in this case, was the sky. “Where we’re going, X,” shin had said. Half jokingly. “We won’t need roads.”
Flown. They had flown. He was practicing a new shard construct. This one was probably only going to be a temporary construct for a party on Halloween. He thought he might go as Doc Brown. It had been a while since he’d made a new construct design, though.
They rode to the area in style, in a silver shard Delorean.
As they flew in over the area, Shin banked hard and stopped them in the sky. X’s passenger-side gull wing door swung up.
”What does it look like, X?” He asked.
He had taken the full ten or so minutes it took to generate the car, while X was dressing for the mission. So shin could make additional constructs. Hence, he had no fears of X falling out of the flying car. He’d outfitted the guy with a set of shard wings that looked like a jet pack. The wings were withdrawn into the pack right then, but at a word from X, Shin could release them and control the X man’s descent.
It should also be noted that when extended, the wings would snap out in a very particular X shape. Yes, friends and neighbors. He had hooked X up with an X wing jet pack. Went with the orange visored helmet the Asian had insisted X wear for safety’s sake nicely.
He smiled mildly at the comment about the clothes looking better on him. But he didn’t say something egotistical, like ‘damn straight.’ Politeness was to be observed. Except in the case of Lenna, of course.
Sam took the whole thing in stride. Good. Not everyone was okay with being moved by someone else’s mind’s will. He didn’t laugh it off, though. He was all business. From his attitude, shin would have thought his hair style would have been the mullet instead of dreads. Business, up front. And all of that.
He did attempt a joking tone when he realized his serious face came off distant.
”Of course. We can take a good look. No problem.” he said.
As for the second question. ”That’s what the pool and the other stuff on the grounds are for! As long as you go to class!”
Shin took a few steps towards the classrooms. ”This way!” He said cheerfully.
After the classrooms, they could look at labs and he could show him where the offices and bathrooms and all the important stuff was. Then, the fun stuff.
Shin pointed the bathrooms and offices out, especially his own. Then, he lead him into a classroom. It was a chemistry lab.
”We have top of the line equipment for teaching our students the sciences and stuff!” He chirped. ”If that’s your inclination!”
They’d seen a few students in passing, but there weren’t any in the lab that moment. Shin knew the schedule and they wouldn’t be using it for the next half hour. If he wanted to see students in class, they’d just have to seek them out.
Either it was the coffee, or else it was the pills and they acted fast. Either way, as the conversation continued, he began to feel better. It was probably the coffee. The price of the pills was enough to make anyone have a headache. Irony of ironies, what were they even good for?
He smirked at the comment about dangerous mutant children and said ”Eh.”
Dangerous mutant kids were dangerous, sure enough. It still impressed him the school was up front about their existence. If it had been him running it maybe he’d have camouflaged the whole place behind a wall and covertly brought in new recruits using that big brain time computer thingy they’d dismantled not too long ago. The thing that had turned off the better part of his powers for a few years. He guessed the lack of pure psychos was enough to turn it off, obsolete.
Another sip of coffee. Mm.
Shin fanned a yawn in response to the question of where he was headed. ”Home, probably. Had enough crime fighting for tonight.”
He had had a good talk too.
”You ever want to talk. Or even talk about teaching or the mansion or junk. Here’s a card.” He fisher a card out of his wallet. It was white with an embossed green triangle over half of it. It had his details from the mansion, as well as his professional number. ”We can hang out again some time. Doesn’t even have to be work related. Honestly maybe better if it isn’t. Haha. Less chance of head trauma that way.”
The rhino went down without much of a fight. Shard watched it for the briefest of moments, just to make sure Saphirus had it under control. Then, he turned his focus back to the mooks.
Tentacle backs were one thing. But while Mirror and Saphirus tangled with the creepy woman, they did not notice the person watching them. The person watching them did not notice the person watching him. And in addition to that, the person watching him watch them didn’t notice yet another person watching him watch them. Then, they all noticed each other.
The little man who had been watching mirror lurched into action. Shard moved. And the third person acted in turn. As he came in to intercept the little man, he realized what he was fighting. The mutant was about three apples tall, with blue skin and a pointy white hat. He blocked a straight punch from the mutant with his forearm, and threw a counterpunch. Before he realized what was happening, the backup guy punched him in the back. Shin got sent tumbling.
As he rolled and got to his feet, his eyes settled on the other person. It was a gnome. For lack of a better word, it was a gnome. Like the kind you see in children’s books and on front lawns. Brown pants, blue shirt, red pointed hat and a big white beard.
He was fighting a gnome and a freaking smurf. Shard struck a quick pose, and grinned beneath the helmet. Then, he gestured with the first two fingers on his right hand. A “come on” gesture. Then, they got it on.
The clash was quick and frenetic. Full martial arts. The two fighters worked like a team. A ninja team. Shin blocked and spun, punching, kicking, blocking. He wasn’t overwhelmed. He had it under control. Still, it wasn’t easy.
Shard fought. He’d end it in a few. Better he keep them under control them let them take out one of his teammates while they were distracted. After all, who wanted to get taken out by a gnome or a smurf with super strength?
>>”Eh, I ain't exactly Mozart myself. I see it, I let it hit me, I hit it. It's what you do with what you got and it's not every day you see a badass ride in on a flying motorcycle and beat up a giant moth. Saw that the other, what, month? Not sure about the naked newbie, though." Saphirus said.
Shin shrugged. ”Not about the size of the ship on the sea, it’s about the motion of the ocean and what you do with your boat that counts? Eh. He did okay. I’m trying to teach him capes are bad and nudity is worse but— still a work in progress.”
Newbies were easy to talk about. You could really slip into shop talk. Family talk, harder. Saphirus didn’t really know his. Foster parents, yowch. His heart went out to him. Well, at least he’d turned ... something. Out something.
Moving on.
Saphirus was... doing fine. Turned out something, doing fine. Evasive, much? He noticed the cosplayer, and grumbled something about ex-wives, in a tone which spoke volumes. Shin was not a mind reader, but having lived with a woman who could read emotions, one gets pretty good at reading or controlling tone. And the other man’s tone said he needed coffee, ASAP. But what Shin really thought, was— that Saphirus wanted something a bit harder than coffee then and there.
Who was he to judge?
They fell into a silence. Maybe comfortable, maybe not? Saphirus broke it. Like a mirror. Shin listened, and tried to piece everything back together. He knew a thing or two about rearranging shards.
It was a lot. Shin put a gauntleted hand on his shoulder. Which... probably would have been more comforting if it hadn’t been a bit good gauntlet hand.
”I know we aren’t really close. But if you need help. I know a thing or two about tracking people. And I could babysit. Or my cousin could. She’s stateside right now, doing college stuff. And—“
From ahead of them, a nasally voice called “NEXT!”
Shin looked from the person back to Saphirus, and removed his hand. ”That’s us.”
He quickly turned and placed their orders. Paid. Handed the other man his drink and looked towards the food court tables. If he hadn’t already shifted his helmet into gold hood form, he did that then. Hard to drink cofffee through a metallic lions head.
Not having a wife, good?
His tone was like butter. Condescending butter. ”If you say so!”
Having a wife was nice. It had its benefits. Like having someone you loved who loved you. And everything that came with it. He wasn’t going to boil it down for Sam though. The kid version seemed... like a frat boy. Interested in only a handful of things. Shin got the impression that loving and caring weren’t on the list.
Shin just let the horn dog comments about the redhead go and focused on a training session.
”Am I down with icy stuff? Yeah. You know me. Okay. Danger room, boot up scenario 8675309-Ω.”
The room shifted. Fell away. Suddenly, they were surrounded by water. Lots and lots of water. Also, they were on a rocking pirate ship. They were at sea. And they weren’t alone.
The skull and crossbones flag flapped in the wind as all the pirates started to notice them. One by one, they activated their mutant powers.
The Asian looked around, then added as an afterthought ”Oh. And spray paint a blastoise on the deck of the ship.”
A big blue turtle appeared on the wood of the deck as the first pirate charged Shin. He was waving a cutlass, and made of water. He stepped aside, with a Vanna white gesture for Sam, then flew into the air like Peter Pan, up towards the rigging. The shards that had made up his helmet snapped forward into the form of a dagger over the course of a handful of seconds. He slashed at a rope ladder holding one pirate up.
He listened to the brief summary of her life so far. The circumstances of her birth, and of where she had grown up. Of her love of languages, and her attempts to better herself both through formal and informal education. He had nodded appreciatively at her when she’d mentioned being self-taught. That was very good. Showed passion. And in his experience, those who had passion tended to do better in the teaching profession. For various reasons.
>> “It would be my pleasure to use my language skills for good here. I feel mutants need their own voice, now more than ever, particularly on the international front. I would be so glad to share my passion with the students here.” She said.
”Very good,” He agreed.
At the comment about searching for others like herself, Shin smiled. ”Think you’ll feel right at home here.” He commented. Didn’t expound.
She did expound. Spoke of her mutation, and hiding. The Asian thought of his own personal experiences. Of discovering his mutation in a fight, when it saved his life. Of the downward spiral and the isolation he had experienced as people he thought had been his friends turned their backs on him. Of finding the mansion and finding better friends. For a brief moment, he thought of the worst. Of the camps, during Romania’s mutant registration act. Mutant registration 2: electric boogaloo. The sequel no one had ever asked for. He was mighty glad she had not ever had to experience anything like That.
He just smiled and nodded at her. Let the girl finish getting out her thoughts.
He tilted his own bottled water back and took a sip.
She finished. In a soft voice, shin replied.
”Well. I’m glad you found us. It can be a big scary world out there. This place is somewhere people can go and avoid that, like you said.”
There was more he could have said, about how he was glad she’d avoided some of the worst out there. But then, maybe she had not. And that’s a bit too intense for sitting around talk.
”I’ll have to give you a tour in a bit. Once we finish this. Anyways. What languages was it you teach? I’ve been teaching Japanese, myself.” He offered her a teasing smile. ”Hope we don’t have to fight over it. Ha. Ha.” He was silent a beat, then added ”Oh yeah. And what’s your power? Forgive me but I’m a power nerd. A little professional curiosity. I can tell you about mine, if it helps. We’re pretty open about that stuff here. My wife would think your lotus blossom is pretty cool.”
He had been expecting her. They’d passed him the brief file on her that morning, and the Asian had been given time to go over it. To look at her work history, name, age... and all that good stuff. It didn’t really matter too much to him. He was mainly interviewing her to see if she was a good match for the mansion. The dirty details of work specifics were down to the headmaster to decide on.
Tetsuya Shinbo opened the door, with a smile on his face, in a pair of khaki slacks and a white button up shirt. There were pens in his pocket, and he even had a pocket protector. No tie, though. There were somewhat casual.
”Hi there!” He said. ”You must be Nyra. I’m tetsuya shinbo. You can call me Shin.”
She was young. In her 20s. When he’d been her age, he had just been starting at the mansion. As a resident. Still learning. So much to learn.
Her mutation looked interesting. He’d have to ask about it. The lotus blossom thingy was the sort of thingy his wife, Kealey, would have been all about.
He stepped back and gestured for her to enter his office. ”Come on in and have a seat. Would you like a cup of coffee? Bottle of water?”
The office wasn’t huge. Fair-sized. Enough for the two of them, some chairs, a desk, and some wall space for a coffee maker and a mini fridge. Some potted plants. Other things. Okay. So maybe it was large, for a teacher’s office. It was a big mansion. So sue him. He didn’t really have much experience with other teachers office spaces to know how good he had it.
Once she was situated, with or without her beverage of choice, the Asian sat behind his desk. He asked her to tell him about herself, and what she thought of the mansion so far.
He would have to give her the tour, when they finished the preliminaries.
