The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Many people were aware. Shin noted the names. Good to have a support network, friends to share a burden. If Carrick ever needed an intervention, he knew who to call. Sam and Maya and Jorge. Actually, that was not all that long of a list. He would add Liz to it. There. Better list. Carrick and Liz had a history both infamous and… forgettable.
Better not to ask.
Moving on.
Carrick had settled into the domicile of a princess. Up to the east side, with pie. Moving on up. Cool, cool, cool. Praxi was there. The jelly girl? That made a company of three, which was an entirely separate theme song from the one carrick had been referencing.
Shin nodded.
“Balconies are nice,” he agreed. Speaking from his own flighty experience.
He had really meant ‘how are you doing mentally,’ but physically. Spiritually. Carrick seemed alright. No lurking depressions or problematic new situations (like some people who had lost their homes, identities, etc.), so… okay.
He had royalty, he seemed in good spirits.
“I’m you’ve got an arrangement that is working out for you.” Shin said, with a small smile. “It is wild how things happen like that. Remember when I went from rogue to mansion resident… and then respectable husband, cop, then teacher, and— wow, I’ve been a lot of things, haven’t I? Yeah, I’m doing alright. Nothing emotionally or spiritually to add. Seems you are doing fine mentally, too. You don’t need any emotional counseling, or someone to talk to? Mama T, maybe….? Someone not me?” Had he said that last part out loud? Whoops.
He ate more.
“These are good noodles.” He hastily added. “You know, they boil the broth for hours to get that taste.” The hearty, salty… taste.

> Shin
Tetsuya Shinbo And then a woman swooped down at him and Mirror like a rocket, hurling fireballs. Any thoughts of a reflective escape fled. He focused, and launched himself with his shard armor to fly up a few feet and strike down the first fireball with a slash of his sword. The heat bled through his armor, and made him sweat. A stray spark hit his one unarmored place, and Shard hissed.
That would be a nice burn.
He landed next to Mirror, and tore the armor from his body and the shards from his sword into a hastily drawn shield. It was thin, about the size of the flattened body of a car, and used all his shards. The best he could do on short notice. The second fireball impacted against it with a boom. Then, she screamed.
He clapped his hands over his ears and screamed too. The mystic stopped screaming long enough to fire one more ball of flame. Shin sent the shield up towards the sphere, to intercept the attack, and while she was silent, he spoke to Mirror.
“Arrow? Arrow. Shoot her out of the sky. I’ll play defense.”
The fire lady began another swoop. As he prepared to tank another fireball, the looming mystic wreathed in electricity punched him in his chest and sent Shin flying three feet onto the ground. He… had kind of forgotten about the lumbering electrical mystic. Luckily for Mirror, the shield stayed in place to absorb fireballs as standing cover. “Ow….” Shin grumbled.

```Tetsuya Shinbo kept up the protective detail on Mirror. If he moved too far away, the armor bandage would disappear and with it, the pressure. His mental hug. So, he focused on defending their position with his big armor and shard sword, batting mystics aside. Throwing his sword to knock enhanced warriors back. He took a few hits that sent him tumbling, but he got back up again. As a big mystic crackling with electricity approached, he shouted to Mirror. “I can make a reflective surface you know, if we want to reposition.”```
>> ”**** me... guess I am one then.”
The Asian suspected the first step to solving a problem was admitting you have one. They had one. Carrick was one. But—
He, at least, seemed to prefer pork.
Shin talked a while and Carrick listened. And he preferred other meats. Was he trying to be funny, to joke himself out of the situation? If so, the joke kind of fell flat. Shin looked at him. And Carrick stabbed himself with a “I’ve never eaten a person before” comment laced with false bravado. Or maybe the bravado was real.
>> ta think about what the other two eat. One likes racoons and pigeons unless it can get a deer. The other... Best to keep this ‘me’ full.” He said.
Shin was silent for a second. “Well, then.” He finally said. “I agree?” Hrm. He reached for his pushed aside food, and got ready to eat some more. Even in spite of being a bit grossed out. No food left behind.
“We will just have to be aware of that. Moving forward. I’m not you, so I can’t tell you how to live your life. But— probably consider how delicious other things are? I guess?”
Hrm. This felt like a very weird conversation. He liked Carrick, mostly. The kid was a goofball, and he didn’t always trust him, but he had not had much interaction with him after the first disastrous meeting in the DR, and then saving him from a madman with a gun. Which they had not talked about very much.
“How are you doing, after the fight?” He asked. Then ate some food.
It did seem like everybody had something.
“Hey, thanks Luna!” Shin said, as he saw the skunk girl. She had brought Oj. Things were starting to consolidate on the various tables. “OJ is my favorite.” He confirmed, as he shifted it with other stuff. Like coffee anyone may have brought, some tea bags. If anyone wanted hot water, they could boil it. They didn’t have any champagne for mimosas, but other than that, they were doing well. Juice and stuff were in the pink and purple table. Yep.
They had Jorge’s food, Sam’s bacon, his pancakes, Carricks “food” (Shin was wary of things Carrick brought to eat), muffins, OJ, coffee, delicious-smelling potatoes (thanks Becca, thanks Mirror), and some type of savory pastry.
“Thanks, everybody!” He said.
Once they were ready, he planned to help dish everyone up and help with cleanup. For the moment, Shin stood at the ready to assist anyone who needed the help. And he made it verbally known.
“Anyone need a second set of hands?” He offered. His stuff was already done.
>> "Im guessing you caught her? I want to be able to help people like that"
Shin nodded. “I did.”
It sounded like she had determination. Good. If she wanted to be a full-time super hero type of person, it took full-time work.
He let her finish saying what was running through her mind.
He smiled a little, at the joke and the nose-holding. Skunks, yes. Smelly skunks. Pretty potent ability. If he trained with her, he was gonna do it outdoors where things could air out. Laying it on thick in the danger room could leave it smelling— was the danger room gone? He couldn’t remember. He’d have to check on that.
Pretty sad, if the place he had trained was gone. And Sam would need to reprogram all his scenarios, including the ones he didn’t think people had seen.
But, yes. Luna was talking. He put his attention back on her, mid-sentence.
>>”… that's what Ms Gemma told me awhile back. Shes nice enough but her power and mine don't like eachother.” Luna said.
“She makes me blind.” Shin stated. “And dumb. Turns off my math eyes. Affects my brain. I try to steer clear. But she’s a very nice woman and I think she has a lot of smart things to say. Whatever she told you, you ought to take it to heart.” He nodded. Blindly covering up for having missed what ever it was Gemma had told the child. With blind loyalty. Blindly.
“Ah. Here we are.” He said, as they approached the place. The place he had found that served cocoa. Their goal, though they’d had some good talk on the walk to it already. “Can skunks do cocoa?” He said, suddenly realizing. “Some animals can’t handle chocolate. Would you prefer tea? Soda? A blintz or a slice of apple pie?”
Was it rude to think maybe a mutation based off an animal had that animals dietary restrictions? He didn’t know. He just knew the next post would probably have velociraptors.
He might’ve been slurping ramen. Shin got a sudden impression he ought not share the mystic’s name. Or lie.
Billy bob. Billy job Thornton. That mystic, yeah.
Carrick could be ever so slightly intimidating when he was eating ramen. As opposed to… raw men. Had… had he picked the food for the sake of a pun, subconsciously? Hrm.
He asked him about it, and Carrick didn’t get defensive. He just said “omnivore.” Well, yes. Technically. The best kind of yes. But… somehow, Shin did not think he was right, all the same.
He frowned.
>> ”Cannibal implies I try ta eat people right?”
”I don’t think it implies you do. If you’ve eaten people even once, you do. You are. At least, that’s how I’ve always seen it. Don’t really spend too much time thinking on that topic honestly.” Shin said. Morbid topic. He felt a crooked smile on his face, and not a good kind. The dark kind.
”There was this crazy guy with a bucket on his head. I saw him in Central Park one time. All sorts of magnets were stuck to the bucket. Weird, weird guy. For a show, some days he would make the magnets drift away from the helmet and float in the air in front of him. Earned him a few coins sometimes. Or jeers.”
He fell silent for a few seconds, but didn’t let Carrick interrupt. The moment Carrick would start talking, when he felt the silence uncomfortable, Shin would interrupt first. ”One day, he told the people jeering that humans are not the same as mutants. A different species, like sheep. Or cattle. And eating them would be the same. Please. Don’t be like that guy. Pretty please?”
He contemplated the kid, to figure out if he was playing dumb or not. He gave him the benefit of the doubt. He was playing dumb.
Shin let Carrick eat his food for a minute. He ate his own, as well. Pretty great. Not the best he had ever had, but solid. Was he a snob? Yes. The buns, though? To die for.
He paused chewing a big bite, as Carrick asked him what he wanted to talk about. Chewed. Swallowed.
What would he the best delivery here? Doom and gloom? Anger? Humor? Shin chose an option, and committed.
”Yeah. A little mystic told me you’re occasionally a cannibal.” He said nonchalantly. ”Have you tried the buns yet? They’re REALLY good.”
>>”My moms out but she is very protective and the mansion thing has her playing warden"
An overprotective mom. How novel. Were his parents ever like that? Maybe. But they never got mad when he moved to America, an exchange student who just… wound up becoming permanent, somehow. So…
Shin nodded. “Okay.”
He let her leave her note, waiting patiently. Gotta let moms know these things. Mom gonna mom. Then, she came back and started sharing.
Shin listened.
>> "I...keep seeing the fight in my dreams...nightmares really. All the ways things could of gone wrong. Is that normal for someones fight real fight?"
“Yeah,” he said. “Soldiers sometimes have post traumatic stress. Nightmares, flashbacks. It isn’t unnatural.”
They would get her help for that, or at least a support group. Support meant making sure she didn’t feel bad about not being alright. Having a net to catch her if she needed it.
>> “Saw some of what you did out there as well, it was amazing. I had no idea you were that strong"
He nodded, and gestured for her to follow him as he started walking. There was a place not too far, according to his phone. He had checked.
“Been training most of my life. I’m sure I’ve had bad dreams, too. One time, a murderer kidnapped a friend of mine and stuffed her in a sack. I had to fly after her. When I caught up, he threw her at me, bag and all….” He was silent a few seconds, as they walked. He looked at her, serious.
“After it happened, I had nightmares. All the ways it could have gone wrong. And been my fault. You aren’t alone.”
“I train a lot. That event made me realize how much I care for her. You train to protect things you care about… She’s my wife now. Heh. That’s Kealey. Never told anyone about those nightmares honestly. You’re the first. Guess I should have. If you need to talk, the teachers at the mansion will listen.”
((Ooc set a couple days after the mansions destruction, after I’ll sho yu ramen.))
The mansion was destroyed. He’s heard from a staggering mystic named August of some of what had happened to its destroyer, in the end. He had seen some of the footage of the rest of the battle on television at his and Kealeys apartment after the event.
Shin had watched some of the students he had never really interacted with fight to save the mansion. Shin felt like maybe he should meet some of them. Talk.
He tracked the flying skunk down where ever they were staying. He thought some of the displaced residents had been staying at haven, others, with friends. Where ever Luna was, he found her. Blame it on his past life as a police officer.
He knocked on the door of the place.
When the door was opened, he waited to speak with Luna. Waited until she greeted him, then said hello. Introduced himself as Shin, a teacher from the mansion. In case they forgot.
“Do you want to go get a cup of cocoa and talk about the last couple of days?” The Asian asked. “Traumatic stuff. The guidance counselor is probably working overtime, counseling students. Figured I’d give her a bit of breathing room. I haven’t really talked with you ever, outside of school.” He taught math. Surely, she took math. “But anyone who flies around fighting wizards to protect my people, I buy a drink.”
She was not old enough for a beer, so cocoa, it was.
He seemed awful proud of himself. And himself. And himself, and also himself. But those weren’t the carricks he was thinking of.
“I saw that,” he said. “The video.”
He waited for Carrick to finish, then shook his head. “I live in my apartment with my wife. But yes. Shame about the mansion. Thank you,” he paused the conversation as food arrived.
Carricks big bowl of ramen was set down in front of him. Shin had also ordered those little meat buns with yummy Mayo sauce.
The waitress left, and Shin smiled at him. “Dig in. It looks delicious. Maybe not as good as what you’re used to, but— I mean, the ramen has pork belly which melts like butter in your mouth. Really good. I heard from some mystic who was near you when Mirror and I trapped the cataclysm in the mirror world… maybe just after… that you actually prefer people?” He raised his voice slightly on that last bit, kind of a squeak.
August had told him that, after the battle. When he was tired and emotionally drained, heading to his vehicle. Right after trying to entice him with shots. Something about needing to drink after seeing a gryphon eat a guys hand.
They were at a ramen place, a nice little joint where the broth was boiling all day and the noodles were fresh and good.
Shin had wanted to talk. To Carrick. Of all people. Luna was somewhere on his list. You help the x-men defend the mansion as a flying skunk, and people take notice. But carrick was first. Because flying gryphon, and— well, he had heard things that bore discussion.
He had ordered miso ramen for himself, and let carrick pore over the menu for a time. No, they did not have naruto ramen. That wasn’t even a thing: if he wanted steamed cakes of fish paste, narutomaki, that WAS a topping. He wasn’t sure if they had it here. Someone would have to ask.
The waitress was just bringing them food now.
“So… Carrick,” shin began slowly. “ I heard what you did at the mansion battle. Want to talk about that?”
For a shining moment, Shin contemplated making everyone a good old traditional Japanese breakfast: Steamed rice, miso soup, a rolled omelet, maybe a little grilled fish… yeah. He didn’t do that.
Shin made everyone just about the fluffiest damn pancakes in the world. They were impossibly fluffy. The main differences between his and other pancakes were, his lacked butter in the batter, making them richer and more moist, and they had more baking powder to add to the soufflé-like texture. He made enough for a small army, and brought multiple bottles of syrups. Maple, blueberry, strawberry preserves…. Store bought, yes. But he was still the definition of extra.
He arrived right after Jorge, Porygon pack animal-in tow. It had all the things he needed in a reshaped “truck bed.” He set up a long card table with several metal trays, those camping things (Sterno 2-hour heat). He put the third metal tray on the table. Then, he looked at them both.
”I brought some trays to keep the food hot. We don’t want anyone getting food poisoning.” He explained.
Then, he set up a second table with more trays and arranged his massive pancake supply next to all the fixings on a THIRD table. Where did he get all these tables?
”I… may have raided a camping store on the way here. Sam, you owe me so much bacon. And— hmm. Your food smells amazing too, Jorge.” He smiled at it all.
”I made pancakes.”
Once Porygon was finished being a pack animal, Shin took a second and repurposed the polygonal duck into a pink and purple table. Right next to the others. His power sure was practical when he did the math.
> **Shin** Wet. Armor. Sucks. It gets up in through the chinks in the armor, and gets to all the clothy bits. Sure, it helped Jorge and Sam, but it definitely did not help him!
Water rose up, ice crashed and flew and fell. Amelia called out that she was hurt, and Jorge went to help. Shin thanked him, deep down in his heart. As he moved onto the next group of mystics, he thought to himself ‘gee Sam really does not trust SUPER.’ From what he recalled of all he had heard, maybe he did not trust them much either. Even if Amelia WAS one. Food for thought.
Sam was making a bottleneck by the entrance, huh? And— Mirror cursed into the comms. The entrance would be fine for the moment. Mirror needed backup. Shin took off running, with shard armor boosted hops.
He landed in a skid, several yards from Mirror. They were firing their bow. He didn’t want to stop that. So, he focused for a moment and did some calculations with his head and with his eyes. Then, he raised one hand and gifted some shards off his armor to Mirror. A compress of sorts appeared over the injured area, shards the color of gold. He’d keep his focus on the area, so it gripped and kept up pressure. Shard would not let Mirror leave his range until Maya got access to some real bandages. For now, he was missing a chunk of armor on the opposite side of the patch job he had done with Porygon. He would have to fight smart until he could summon more, or rearrange things.
Mirror would gain the protection of shard armor in that area. But it would not be perfect and kinetic force would still leak through.
Shin had been battered by the winds and hit by bullets and fire. Shard armor was not perfect. He was starting to feel a bit tired. Mentally, and physically. Bruised, aches were bleeding through… he pushed them into the a little triangle in the back of his mind. Then, he threw his blunt sword at the nearest mystic and knocked their legs out from under them.
“I’m covering Mirror!” He shouted into the comms. And, he fought, summoning the sword back only to send it flying again and again as mystics appeared near them both. “I’ve got your back!” He said. And put his back to Mirror so he would match word with action.
To the gates, to the gates, to the gates gates gates came the cavalry song in his head. He had heard CS joking, but— why not offer backup if he could?
Seemed Jorge and Sam could use some. As he was approaching from the air, he saw two airborne mystics surrounded by— okay so they were literally being borne upon the air. Wind was buffeting around them, and kept them aloft.
“Incoming, Jorge and Sam.” He said into the communicator. Then, the golden knight poured on some speed. Porygon accelerated, and Shard leaned forward and hunkered down against the winds surrounding the spellcasters. It battered against his armor and made his teeth shake. The whole area surrounding them was also colder by several degrees, just from windchill. He held his sword against Porygon, by its side, and just manipulated all the shards on his armor and that of his mounts to reduce wind resistance. Then, he struck!
Like a golden comet, he streaked through the sky. A golden comet on a pink and purple polygonal duck. Shard struck the mystics from the side, coming in on their blind spots. The vortexes crashing down on the Sam Jorge duo rapidly cut off, as two mystics changed their focus to staying aloft. His blunted blade had caught them, and sent them tumbling for a moment. As they caught themselves, they turned towards him to fire off more wind. Evasive maneuvers were engaged as he drew in the shards that had formed his blade, and began to focus on reforming them into a beach ball sized golden orb.
Ten seconds, twelve. Thirteen. At about twenty, he turned and aimed his hand like a gun from about twenty feet away. There was a sphere of shards there, glowing.
“Spirit gun.” He shouted. It flew the intervening distance, through the winds, to knock one of the two mystics out of the air. The second cast a spell, to save her comrade. A feather fall type spell, like a warm summer breeze. While she was distracted, Shin dismissed the spent shards from the sphere, and reformed part of his armor into a second ball. He aimed, and— the second she looked back at him, fired! She caught herself with the same feather fall spell, as she tumbled down in front of Jorge, injured.
Shin launched himself down to follow her. Landed in front of the duo, on Porygon. He climbed off as she groggily considered her options. Patted his Pokémon’s flank.
“Porygon, Sharpen.”
The ducks beak glowed. Then it charged her like a duck shaped power drill. Shin turned back towards the two men, parts of golden armor missing in uneven chunks at his right arm and left leg. “Hello, boys.” Then, he turned back towards the mystic as Porygon knocked her out with a savage beak side swipe. Raised his hand, and drew all the shards that had formed the duck back into himself. The duck’s components patched the battle damage with purple and pink.
The camera panned across the group as he held up his right hand and began slowly reforming the shard sword with excess Porygon pink and purple triangles.
