The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Ruby's ears twitched slightly when the girl asked what she was working on again. Hadn't she told her? Did she really have to be that specific on what she was working on? After all, what if she was working on something important for the government and she asked her that? Then she would have had to say classified and put her on the governments watch list, which is a terrible list to be on.
"I'm working on some robotic research. If I can make a roomba or a battle bot, which are fairly complex on their own, the roomba being far more complex than the battle bot hilariously enough. I can surely make more advanced things. I just have to do the research." Ruby replied. "My only concern is creating something sub par in comparison to my other creations. Working from scratch is a lot harder than worker from a schematic."
The fox girl wasn't trying to act superior in any way, she just stated what was a simple fact. She knew very well of what she was capable of, but she was always willing to push those boundaries and with her research she could possibly break them all together. This was exactly what Ruby needed to break her out of the funk she had been having as of late.
Being in a creative slump wasn't healthy for someone like her and despite the toys she was fixing and the people she was made happy, she felt empty. The little genius needed something more to keep her occupied, something to challenge what she thought and how she felt about things. If she wasn't challenged there was no point in her continuing any research at all.
Ruby's face lit up in a brilliant shade of red when she was complimented by her date, her tail curling around her body a little self consciously.
" Do you really think so? You look good too," Ruby Beamed, her expression bright and filled with happiness. She took the chocolate box and placed it on her dresser, just so she would be able to eat it later. Still holding the card in one hand, Ruby fumbled about her room for a moment as if looking for something she misplaced. The Fox girl's tail swished back and forth eagerilly once she opened her sock drawer.
Ruby had gotten Miles' a card, but it was a simple one without any I love you's or anything like that. It just had a Transformer,Optimus Prime, on the front and on the inside it said. "Let's roll out Valentine." with her signature and a little smiley face next to it. Ruby wasn't exactly the poetic type, but she figured something simple wouldn't be a bad choice.
The fox girl nodded a little in recognition when he said the intimidating sibling thing was part of the job description. In all honesty, it really seemed to be around her sisters. They would do anything and everything to protect her and she knew that. She just wished that they wouldn't be so harsh on others, half the time they didn't mean any harm at all. They just worried too much was all.
"Well since Disneyland and a concert is out," Ruby giggled, fiddling with the card that she had clasped tightly in hand. "I wouldn't mind going to a movie, I heard there was a new sci fi flick in theaters that sounded good."
Sure, Ruby liked a gooey chick flick as much as the next girl, but she did not want to see it on Valentines Day. The theater would probably be packed and there would be people doing who knows what in the back. The fox girl opened up the envelope that held the card and found...
The lady that held all of the books seemed kind of nice. Ruby had seen her working here before and she really didn't mind her, considering the fact she didn't make a lot of noise when she put things back. Ruby had been to some libraries where one girl would just gab away on her cell phone while she was filing the books back where they belonged. It was an awful experience, and her voice was so very shrill, the fox girl’s ears were ringing for at least a week. When it came to her work or her studies, all the little genius wanted was some peace and quiet.
Ruby reached out and grabbed the book, handling it with the most delicate of care. It was as if she was handling a baby bird or a kitten, if one looked at the way she held the book so carefully to her chest. The electric took in the other girl’s appearance for a little bit, swearing that she recognized her from somewhere. Suddenly her ear’s perked up in recognition and her green eyes lit up, this girl was one of the X-men and despite her sisters less than stellar feelings about them right now, she was glad to see another one of them on semi daily bases.
“Well I’m looking at Dr. Freyman’s lectures at the moment and seeing if there is anything I can use for what I’m working on. You see his theories are prevalent in other’s works but I wanted to take a look at his original work and see if there is anything others are missing. Whether or not he will be helpful to my work as a whole in the long run has yet to be seen,” Ruby answered, green eyes gazing briefly at the spine of the book.
While the fox girl knew she wasn't nearly as intelligent or as informed as some of these individuals, this of course didn't mean that they would be always helpful to her projects.
The mansion's library was one of the few places in the entire place that Ruby could hear her own thoughts in relative peace. No, the fox girl wasn't a mind reader, but people tended to be loud for some reason, and when you had sensitive hearing, it was a real pain to find someplace quiet. The thing was, if Ruby didn't have some sort of peace and quiet for at least a little while, she would become frazzled and not be able to think on her equations correctly for a while.
While she could work on her homework just fine in her room, Ruby's robots were a different matter entirely. She had to have peace, quiet, and tranquility in order to do anything at all, especially sketching out plans - like she was doing now, on a fairly large piece of graph paper. She sat there, wearing her oversized Wall-E shirt with her good blue jeans, some of her normal sketching clothes.
The fox girl had probably the majority of the mechanical and robotics books spread out on the table in front of her while she worked, each turned to a specific page. Midst her frantic scribbling onto a full scale sketch of what appeared to be a robotic arm, Ruby was forced to push her oversized glasses up her nose on occasion, trying her best to fight the annoyance of the accursed spectacles. Between the sounds of the frantic scribbling of her pen, occasional book page turns, and the sound of the one other presence in the library, it appeared as if this was the perfect place to work on her new plans.
While robotic arms already existed, there could be some considerable modifications made to them that could make them, essentially, the next big thing in replacement limbs, even moreso than it was already, for perhaps human modifications for a superior model of a person. But maybe Ruby was getting ahead of herself.
Ruby's green eyes scanned over the other books, a million thoughts going through her head at once, when she realized something. There was one book in her arrangement that was missing, and she knew that if she didn't get up to retrieve it now, she never would. Who knew what sort of mistake she would make if she didn't? With a soft scraping noise, she scooted her chair back, then made her way over to the section that a person just so happened to be in. Since they just happened to be putting books back in the section she was going to, she might as well socialize a little. Not that Ruby was anti-social normally. She was just hard at work
"Do you have The Character of Physical Law by Richard Feynman? It was checked out last week, and I was wondering if it came in, today," Ruby inquired politely of the young woman.
This is an interesting idea, semi similar to the What-If story line in the comic books. It could be a good chance to see how the characters would change if certain things in their past didn't happen. An interesting writing exercise to say the least.
That said, would this mutant you are talking about would he have the ability to literally erase someone from existence or erase their presence in the persons memory. This seems to run under the same principle as AOS as well as the Future did with a powerful mutant simulating an alternate reality.
Alternate Realities sees to be a semi common theme on MRO and the only criticism I have with this is the fact that we had a alternate reality/future plotline not too long ago and while AOS was fun and it worked having two plots like this so close together seems like it would be a little bit confusing for new members coming to MRO for the first time to follow. The last alternate reality plot MRO had was a future plotline that took place long before AOS and that was part of the reason AOS worked as well as it did because of the gap between these alternate universes.
Not that this is a bad plot idea, it's not, but it might be too soon after AOS to do right now. In my own opinion all of the characters need to be in the normal reality for a while before we do another plot of this magnitude again. Our characters really do need to stick in the normal reality for a while so we can establish how they are in the real world with real events rather than constantly poofing back and forth between alternate universes.
Anxious didn't even begin to describe what Ruby was feeling right now. This was the first time in a long time she had been out on a date so she just wanted everything to go perfectly. The timid fox girl peeked out from a crack in the door and partially saw Miles and her sister. While she wasn't too concerned, she still wanted to double check to make sure her sister hadn't done anything too terrible to him yet. All looked and sounded well for now so she continued to get ready.
After around ten more minutes or so of complete and utter silence between the two other than an occasional shuffle from Emerald, Ruby stepped out of the bathroom, a slightly nervous smile worn on her face. The fox girl wore black denim jeans, a large leather coat that went down to her waist, knee high boots and an icy blue t shirt that had a drawing of a little owl on it. The fox girl wore very little make up, no doubt this was her sisters doing but there was just enough to accentuate some of her features.
It was quite cold out today so she didn't want to wear a dress, despite how much more appropriate for the date that would be. It was either looking “good” or freezing her tail off and Ruby certain didn't want to freeze her tail off, especially not around her first date. She had to make a good impression even if they had been on who knows how many dates in the other world.
“You look great kiddo!” Emerald told her little sister, a happy smile on her face, being the first to approach her. Emerald lightly tussled Ruby’s hair a little, laughing as the fox her let out an irritated groan at her sister messing up her hard work. “Oh relax, you're gonna to be fine.”
Ruby glared up at her older sister for a moment before giving her a quick hug and she felt the wolf woman immediately relax in her grasp and return the hug. It wasn't that hard to tell how worried Emerald was about her, that and the fact that this was her least favorite holiday didn't help matters. Ruby opened up one of her coat pockets and smiled at her sister before handing her an envelope. The fox girl watched as Emerald’s features softened immediately and she stuffed it in her own jacket pocket. This earned the little fox girl another hug.
“Happy Valentine’s Day big sis,” Ruby whispered softly, just before the sisters broke apart again.
Without saying another word, Emerald walked out of the room, giving Miles a quick nod before completely leaving the room.
”Sorry about my sister,” Ruby apologized to Miles’ her voice soft and sincere. ” “This is just sort of a sucky time of year for her and she worries about me is all…so where are we going on this magical night?”
The fox girl looked like she was either going to bounce off the walls, faint or both. Her entire body was moving it seemed, between her tail and her ears, at the moment she looked more like a cat going after a mouse than a girl about to go out on a date.
This was place looked like a great place to fix upper, well if you were excited about that sort of thing, which of course, Ruby Lupin was. There was nothing more exciting for her than to not only help out her fellow person but to fix things and given what they were asked to do, she was more than willing to help. So she was a little bit of a dork when it came to fixing things or using her tools, big deal, at least she was having fun with it.
As soon as the jobs were announced Ruby knew exactly what she was going to picked. With a quick apologetic smile to Miles for not picking the same thing he did her hand shot straight up after his.
"I'm willing to fix the playground!" Ruby told Mirror, saluting her friend with her wrench clasped tightly in hand.
Alright, so this might as well be one of Ruby's forte's, judging by the massive tool box that honestly looked bigger than her clasped in her small hands, she was more than ready for this sort of job. Ruby wore a pair of her favorite work overalls too, with her fox ears and tail on full display. While she would have liked to work with Miles,he chose to work with the weeds and Ruby was no Gardner. She had to work with her tools to really feel like she was doing something.
Not only that but she was a Lupin, Lupin girls always worked better with thier hands doing something constructive, especially if it coincidentally also involved destruction. Maybe Ruby wasn't as destructive as her siblings could be but that didn't mean she didn't have the taste for it. At least she built things after she destroyed them.
With a good chunk of their posts coming to a close, the Lupin girl's need more threads. While I can't guarantee I will post every day (College kinda makes things difficult), I will post as much as I can and inform my posting buddies what's going on if things grind to a halt.
Now here are the Lupins
Ruby: The Youngest girl, by far the easiest to roleplay with if we are going by friendliness. She is a happy girl that gets nervous sort of easily that makes robots. The fox girl is mostly seen around the mansion but can be in New York City for various reasons if necessary. She is an electrical fox who has quite a spark of intelligence and cunning. Ruby needs the posts the most out of her sisters.
Emerald: The Middle Lupin sister, werewolf and quite a bit more anti-social than her younger sister. It takes a lot to get her to trust you and considering all she has been through, that's not really that surprising. She will be a loyal and good friend once you get to know her, but don't expect immediate happy go luckiness. She's everywhere around the city and has a very strong moral code, making her a good ally to have on your side There is no guarantee that she will like your character though so keep that in mind.. While she doesn't fall on the right side of the law all the time, you better believe that if she likes you enough you will have a protector on your hands.
Sapphire: The Eldest Lupin, Darkness manipulator and is interestingly enough the most social Lupin. You will find her all over, going to gala's ,charity events, horribly murdering people, the whole package. While her life as an assassin is a complete secret her life as an artist is not and she is very renowned for her paintings. If you don't mind roleplaying with a snobby, powerful and unsettling lady, Sapphire might be the one for you to play with. Of course, there is no guarantee she will really like you, after all she is kind of insane but she's fun to play with.
So Ruby wasn't exactly used to receiving compliments like the one Miles gave her. Not because she wasn't complimented enough, that wasn't it at all, she was complimented fairly often. No, it was because of the fact it was someone who she really rather liked complimenting her.
Add onto the fact she hadn't had that many boyfriends in the past and that leads to only one thing, a beet red Ruby Lupin. Her face was lending herself to her name quite nicely at the moment, tail curling around her small body self consciously, blush tinging her cheeks.
"Thank you for the compliments I think you are attractive in guy ways too and you are very nice," Ruby said, her voice increased in pitch considerably. The little fox girl intook a deep breathe, trying to calm down a little. After some time the redness of her cheek dimmed and she was actually able to talk the guy. "I think we should go to the movies and maybe about to a cheap dinner afterwords so we can both afford it.
Ruby really wasn't that good at the whole, planning dates thing, which was hilarious in a way because the girl planned just about anything else. Heck, the fox girl managed to plan a whole family reunion where the main Lupin family managed to avoid her grandmother at every step of the way, that took some skilled planning. When it came to her own social life, Ruby was a little less than competent at it, if only because she didn't have a lot of experience with it.
Ruby took the coke from Miles and practically chugged it down, forgetting how thirsty she had been earlier. Maybe, soccer had worn her out far more than she thought it did. Today was really shaping up to be an odd day. At first, she was just reading underneath the old oak tree and now she was sitting here with a guy that she knew in another time, another place, but in a way she felt like she had known him forever.
“To be honest, intresting doesn't even begin to cover my family, but I'm sure my family would love to help your family understand you better. We sometimes understand other people better than we understand each other,” The little genius told Miles honestly.
As long as Emerald and Sapphire don't try to kill each other before then Ruby thought sadly. The day that the older Lupin sisters got along completely was the day that pigs grew wings and flew to the moon.
A slightly uneasy silence fell over the room and the tone seemed to change a little. It was still fun and happy, but there was something else in the room now. Anticipation perhaps? Nervousness?Maybe it was girlish intuition trying to kick in after all these years, or maybe it was just common sense, but Ruby could feel something was up. In a brief nerve wracking moment, Ruby thought that maybe it was because he didn't like her enough as she thought he did. It could be possible he was wondering what in the world was wrong with his older self for trying to date a girl like her. The fox girl's ears drooped sadly and her tail hung sadly next to her legs.
Once again though, anxiety seemed to mislead her because what she was asked was not what her anxiety filled mind was expecting at all. Her ears perked up and her tail started waging a little like a happy perky pup.
“Of course I will! I thought you were going to shoot me down for a minute there,” Ruby blurted out, almost immediately slamming her palm into her face. “I mean, I'm not really used to boys asking me out or anything...but I really want to go out with you!”
If there was one thing Ruby knew about it was mutants with control issues. She even had extreme difficulties were her abilities sometimes, due to the volatile nature of electricity. It was easy for her to short out something, or accidentally blow something up if she wasn't careful.
"Well it might be easier to sit down and talk to them about it...if you want I can be there if you do. If anything my family has some experience with mutants with control issues." Ruby offered.
While Ruby knew this was sort of an easier said than done kind of things, she was willing to be with miles if he was planning on talking to his parents. Not only that, but she knew a good deal about more out of control mutations than most mutants did. Not only because of her sisters and herself, but because of her observations at the lab when her sisters were unable to protect her. Mutants there were constantly put through all sorts of of hell if they couldn't control their abilities.
"Coke sounds good," Ruby answered him, tail curling around her body a little.
Now came the "What sort of mutants are your sisters," question. Ruby wasn't uncomfortable with telling about her siblings powers, as long as Miles didn't ask about the extent of her siblings power she was fine. After all, some thing were better kept in secret in the Lupin family.
"Well, I'm a fox shifter and when I shift into fox form I can produce electricity. I'm a sort of electric fox," Ruby explained informatively. "As for my sisters, Emerald's a wolf shifter and kinda like me she has animal like qualities, except her's are more pronounced. That and she sort of has a wolf mindset at times, so don't ever be surprised if she she says things like Pack or pup. Sapphire on the other hand, she's a darkness manipulator with no animal features at all, something we are kinda confused about but we don't question it too much."
While Ruby didn't go into full detail, it was just enough to stave most peoples curiosities. At least that way she wouldn't give away too much of her families secrets. While Miles was someone she trusted in the past, she didn't truly know him in this timeline so that meant he had to earn more of her trust before she told him anything else about the interesting Lupin family.
Sometimes, people say things that they really regret after saying them. Ruby was currently having a moment like and she could have sworn that her heart dropped in the pit of her stomach. Her ears drooped slightly and her tail curled around herself self consciously.
Ruby you idiot! How can you be so stupid, not everyone had it as easy as you did with your family. Some people were even kicked out for being mutants, how can you not think things through. You are supposed to be smartRuby berated herself inwardly.
Luckily though, Miles seemed to be repetitively fine on all fronts with her questions. Her self consciousness went away though when he mentioned the sentimentality of the song which made her blush a little bit.
“I wouldn't mind that, I have my computer up in my room if you want me to go get it,” Ruby offered, her voice slightly higher than normal.
She listened to more of his favorite things, giving her more an idea of what he was like. It started bringing memories back from that strange dream like state, the reasons why she liked him. The fox girl finished off her plate fairly quickly and reached over to get more as he started talking again. She had to stay fueled to shift.
When he mentioned his parents, she winced a little, while that wasn't the worse that she had heard it still broke her heart that people didn't understand what mutants were all about. It was possible that Miles' mother needed a more positive reassurance that mutants could be good. Maybe Ruby could be that positive reassurance if she really worked at it. After all, she was one of the best people to talk to about the positive things about being a mutant.
“My favorite food has always been chicken, I can't really help it though, it's a fox thing. I have to eat it sorta fresh or I'll have the urge to hunt it and since stealing chickens isn't the best thing,” Ruby explained with a sheepish and nervous grin. It was hard to tell how he wold react to the fact that the girl his older self fell in love with was a chicken stealer.
“My parents are calm, kind and understanding people. Moms a mutant and Dad's a human, so they were understanding about me and my sisters,” Ruby explained, “And...if you want my parents can talk to yours about the whole mutant thing. Especially my dad, he has a wife and three daughters that are all mutants. He knows the most about the whole accepting everyone abilities thing.”
Ruby hoped that Miles would take her very earnest offer. She could see her father doing a very good job talking to Miles' family about the whole mutant thing. While he wasn't a people person, he was adamant about talking about equality in between all living things even if it involved robots.
“Oh! I really love the Wrinkle in Time Series, better known as the time quartet, it's really cool and it has time travel and magic in it!” Ruby exclaimed with a happy grin, but did look ever so slightly cross. The little fox girl's ears drooped a very small amount “As for what team, Team Lupin Family, my family really despises that series all for different reasons.”
"I actually really like the song 'One-X' by Three Days Grace. I know Emerald likes the song 'Lost In You' a lot, which is kinda weird for her." Ruby Commented, her own enjoyment of the band showing
So Miles had a "rocking" taste in music, that was completely fine. After all, Ruby liked a variety of music and Three Days Grace was a band she liked to listen to on occasion. While the "heavier" Songs were more of Emerald's style that didn't mean Ruby didn't like them. She just had sensitive ears and sometimes all that hard stuff could wear on those over sized, twitchy things after a while.
"No I actually haven't heard of that one," Ruby replied sheepishly, her voice soft. "Maybe we could listen to it together some time?"
Okay so, Miles might have just been propisitioned for a future date, but considering the duo's hisory it wasn't that surprsing. Though, Ruby being the one to ask first was and her nerves showed a little bit, judging by that twitching tail of hers.
That and the fact she almost leap out of her skin when the microwaved dinged.
The fox girl grabbed the warmed up poultry from the microwaved and served it up on the plates. It was a lemon pepper chicken and the way it was seasoned probably enveloped the entire room with the smell of spices. Whoever cooked it had some talent, that was for sure, either that or a lot of luck.
Ruby almost immediately began eating, when she was asked to inquire some things about Miles. Poor thing had to take a minute to pause because as soon as she politely gave miles his food she started scarfing down her food. Chicken was one of her greatest weaknesses when it came to food and considering the fact she forgot to eat her snacks today she was starving.
"Well, whats your favorite food? What are your parent's like? What is your favorite book? I can ask you a million questions if you want me to!" Ruby exclaimed, a gleeful grin on her face.
What a spooky character, absolutely fascinating ability with a lot of potential. Our more traumatized characters will have quite a hard time with you. It will be interesting to see him in action with the massive variety of characters on MRO.
