The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Listen up, ladies. The fact that we are not punching any monsters today does not mean this is not a serious mission. Don't make the mistake of thinking we're wasting our time out here. Fighting is not everything the X-men do. It is not even the most important of things. We are here today to try and save face for the entire mutant community of New York City, so I expect all of you to behave accordingly."
Maya was using her best 'I am leading this team of superpowered teenagers and they better stay in line' voice in the newbies. Some of them had more experience than others, but they all still required supervision. Said supervision came in the person of the currently-female young team-leader, also known to the masses as Mirror.
"Things have been chaotic lately, and more people are afraid of mutants than ever. We are here to show them not all of us are murderous criminals only capable of destruction. We are here to serve the community, mutants and humans alike. And we are going to put on our best face to do it."
She looked at the young X-trainees and X-kids lined up for a good day's work.
"We are here to fix things, and nothing more. But while we work, you will need to keep an eye out. At the first sign of any trouble from mutants, from humans, from anyone, we leave. You need to remember this. We do not engage with anyone, we do not answer to any threats, and we ignore the yelling. When I say we go, we go. Anyone who has got a problem with that can go back to the Mansion right now. The last thing we need now is more bad publicity."
Maya motioned to the building looming behind them half covered up in weeds and creepers, past the pile of shovels, buckets, and other various working utensils.
"This used to be a community center that the city shut down and never had money to renovate. We are going to fix it up, for everyone. There is the building itself, needs to be cleaned and re-painted. There is a playground that needs fixing, and once the weeds are out, we need to plant some trees too. Pick your work for the day and stick with it. Use your powers if you need to, but be careful. And wear your helmets. Safety first. Now. Let's get down to work."
Maya finished her speech and nodded to the young X-men. This was a good way of getting them used to working together, without the threat of a real mission.
Miles sighed. Yes, he agreed with the idea behind it. Yes, he agreed mutants needed to do good deeds and prove they were not criminals. Yes, he knew there might be 'some' community service, but maaaaaan! This was going to be a lot of work! Look at this dump!
Throughout his time studying in the mansion, he knew the famous X-Men operated there, but he'd never been on a bona fide 'mission' with one of them. He had seen this Maya girl before and knew her name and her role in the X-men from overhearing others. Sometimes he'd see that Cold Steel fellow or take a glimpse of the silvery one or that Gawain fellow and once he even caught sight of the entire group. Curiously enough, he'd never seen Gawain and Maya together in the same hallway, so clearly not everything was beautiful roses among the X-Men. Gawain and Maya probably couldn't stand each other.
When the X-Men actually informed the school their intent to have the younger students help them to clean up the name of mutants, he expected... well, something more action-y and exciting, but here they were, off to fight mothballs, dust and dirt.
Oh well, there had to be something his dogs could help with, or more like... do all the work while he watched and 'supervised'. OOH! He could be the lookout! Yup! Just have his dogs patrol around and inform him of anything going wrong, while he valiantly just... stood there, waiting for something to go wrong. Nah, she'd probably force him to get his hands dirty AND keep his dogs patrolling. Painting? Nah, his dogs couldn't paint. Cleaning? Dogs can't hold a broom either...
Miles took a look at the different chores and decided he could have his dogs help get rid of weeds and open holes for planting and such and yet, he didn't expect them to be able to do ALL the work, so he'd have to get his hands dirty anyway. Oh well, some help was better than nothing.
The boy raised his hand before too many people offered to do weed duty or some plant mutant decided she could do it all on her lonesome.
"Weed cleaning and planting for me! And if I get a team, I also offer to supervise it!" he said.
This was place looked like a great place to fix upper, well if you were excited about that sort of thing, which of course, Ruby Lupin was. There was nothing more exciting for her than to not only help out her fellow person but to fix things and given what they were asked to do, she was more than willing to help. So she was a little bit of a dork when it came to fixing things or using her tools, big deal, at least she was having fun with it.
As soon as the jobs were announced Ruby knew exactly what she was going to picked. With a quick apologetic smile to Miles for not picking the same thing he did her hand shot straight up after his.
"I'm willing to fix the playground!" Ruby told Mirror, saluting her friend with her wrench clasped tightly in hand.
Alright, so this might as well be one of Ruby's forte's, judging by the massive tool box that honestly looked bigger than her clasped in her small hands, she was more than ready for this sort of job. Ruby wore a pair of her favorite work overalls too, with her fox ears and tail on full display. While she would have liked to work with Miles,he chose to work with the weeds and Ruby was no Gardner. She had to work with her tools to really feel like she was doing something.
Not only that but she was a Lupin, Lupin girls always worked better with thier hands doing something constructive, especially if it coincidentally also involved destruction. Maybe Ruby wasn't as destructive as her siblings could be but that didn't mean she didn't have the taste for it. At least she built things after she destroyed them.
