The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She pulled the door shut behind them, and tossed her coat onto the hanger, face set in a look of introspection into just how foolish she was.
Why had she told him? And like that? And with her there. And tried to push things? And failed. And failed so hard. And she hadn't even talked with them about that second topic at all. Things had just... stopped. Fallen apart. And then Lori'd gone off with Kaitlyn to enjoy the rides and attractions on her own.
Luckily, nothing important had blown up. That she knew about.
Why had she planned to do this on the Fourth?! They were going to do fireworks. She had never actually experienced a real American fourth of July. She'd been looking forward to it. And now. She just felt like crap.
She didn't even want to talk to him.
Even if he'd forgiven her, she felt embarrassed.
What she felt like was worse than embarrassed. She felt weak. That was probably why, when he'd gone into the main part of the apartment, she'd hung back by the hanger, taking an inordinate amount of time hanging that coat.
(( OOC: Planned. 4th of July, 2011. Ranger, Lenna. ))
When they had arrived back at the apartment Lenna followed the Ranger in, pulling the door shut behind her. Lenna stopped to throw her coat on a hanger while the Ranger made his way further into the apartment. He stopped in the living room and deposited a pistol. No sense having multiple side arms on your person inside your residence.
Lenna seemed too silent and the Ranger surmised it was due to their prior conversation regarding her and Lori. She seemed to think it was a much bigger deal than he. Her kissing Lori was something he didn't even think needed to be forgiven. It had been done for cover and its not like her kissing another woman was even cheating anyway were it not. His social views clearly coloring his view.
They had spent the Fourth of July at Coney Island, not exactly his idea of how to spend it, but Lenna had insisted. Now that they were back at the apartment Ranger considered a way to add a little something to how they spent the day. He could grill up hamburgers for dinner. He could deal with the specifics later. He had already commandeered a grill to use.
He made his way to the kitchen and called out to Lenna, "How 'bout I grill up some burgers for dinner?" he called, realizing she was still in the entryway and thinking something must be amiss.
Lenna called back, announcing she wasn't hungry. The call was not followed by the sound of footsteps, she was still standing in the entryway. The Ranger, who had made his way to the fridge to make sure there was meat, stopped. Something was clearly wrong.
He turned and made his way toward where she was. "Is somethin' wrong?" he asked when he made his way to the hall and could see her.
Maybe beyond the closet, the ceiling would shift, and slope downwards into a tunnel. And beyond that tunnel would be a magical world where time slowed down, and she could escape from all of her problems in this world (in exchange for problems in that).
She was pretty sure she could shoot the White Witch.
Yeah. That was seriously an option.
"Nothing." She staved off crimson. She kept her whole body pointed towards the magic closet, in the hopes that he did not see her face. "Everything is perfectly fine. I didn't mess up anything at all."
Oh. Oops. She'd slipped a bit towards the end there, hadn't she? Lenna winced.
She didn't mess anything up? Lenna's statement seemed to give away her feelings. As there was no mention of her messing until now it stood to reason she thought she had and was trying to cover it.
"What're ya talkin' about?" He took a slow step closer, "No one said ya messed anythin' up."
And without an answer Lenna was gone, into the closet. The Ranger just stood there for a moment, dumbfounded. Why in the world would she go and shut herself up in the closet.
He stood there a moment and tried to figure out what was going on. He thought back to earlier in the day, while they were at Coney Island. Everything was fine until the topic of her kiss with Lori. Could that be the issue? He had filed it away as a non-issue, why would she be hung up on it?
He approached the coat closet, his boots announcing his approach as the heels hit the floor. It is nearly impossible to walk quietly in cowboy boots. He stopped at the door and didn't try to open it. He stood there and spoke softly through the door, "Lenna... " He paused a moment, not sure what to say. "what's wrong?"
"I'm terrible at this. How can you even stand me?"
She didn't get relationships. Was this a relationship? Didn't get why people confessed, or stuck with others, and didn't kiss anyone they wanted. Or why Isabel had been so mad when Brickson had confessed to sleeping with her while they'd been in Columbia. She'd only told the woman out of courtesy, because apparently, some people got mad about that sort of stuff when they found out.
Would she have gotten mad if she'd found out Michael had cheated on her? She had no idea.
Why was he even staying with her? Sure, the coffee was good and they had a lot in common. But wouldn't he have been better off with some dumb blond who was top-heavy, with looks to spare? She was terrible at this. Whatever it was. With any luck, he'd walk out. And she could leave the closet in peace.
Maybe then she could stop lighting it up with her glowing red face.
The door cracked open. And then it fully opened. Lenna stood there, glaring at him. All color from her cheeks had vanished. And. She was mad.
"Get out." She requested coldly.
Get out. Because those words made total sense. Totally.
Nothing she was thinking made any sense. Just that Johnathon had said those words, see, and that he'd broken her heart. Those words were dangerous words. And Mina was right. They were foolish. She'd be setting herself up for another heartfall. And she did not want to be a part of it.
His eyes widened as a look of shock and hurt flashed across his face before he threw up a poker face and looked away. And then he stood there for a moment, not sure what to do.
"If tha's what ya wan'."
The Ranger then turned to the door and took hold of the knob to leave. He felt like she had just punched him in the chest, but he wouldn't show it. Anything he was leaving here he could get later.
As he was opening the door he heard her tell him to stay.
The Ranger turned and looked her in the eye before shutting the door again and stepping away from it. He didn't say anything, he just looked into her eyes. Something was going on in her head, he could tell.
He decided to let her work through it a bit before he said anything. Before, every time he spoke things got worse. Though he did test the waters by taking a step closer.
