The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was better.
Riley had to agree. It had been a long time since she’d stood this close to someone and really looked them in the eyes. Wise people always said that the eyes were windows to the soul, and that was enough to dissuade Riley from prolonged eye contact with most people.
Aurum didn’t make her uncomfortable though. She didn’t know what he saw when he looked at her, but something about his expression told her that she didn’t need to worry.
So they danced by themselves on the rooftop, and maybe Riley stepped in even closer, the better to stay warm on a chilly autumn night.

Finally, the music stopped. The song ended. There was another track on the disc, but Aurum felt like sitting down. He released Riley, glancing towards the conveniently-placed lawn chairs.
Hey. There was even a little cooler right next to one of them. How had he not noticed that before?
He nodded towards them. "Care to stare at the stars?"

The song ended, as songs are wont to do, and Riley actually sighed a little bit. The song had been nice. The dancing had been nicer. There was more music…why weren’t they dancing…or doing more of the eye staring? That had been nice….really nice.
Aurum moved away a little, and gestured to the lawn chairs they’d passed on the way to their improvised dance floor. Did she want to stare at the stars?
Kind of….but….she’d kind of liked looking at Aurum too…a lot.
”Sure…but, I really wouldn’t mind dancing a little more either…” she said.

She had asked. And she would receive. Aurum stepped back, and Riley settled happily into his arms to dance some more as the next song started to play. She hoped he didn’t mind too much. The night was young, and they could always look at the stars. The mood wasn’t always right for dancing, and she wanted to take advantage.
Soft piano wafted from the speakers of the boom box followed by Norah Jones. Come Away With Me was the song…and it didn’t lend itself to the twirling and dipping that the last song had encouraged. Riley had to congratulate herself on that fact. This song was much more geared towards…swaying.
”Remind me to compliment Chad on his song selection.” she said, slipping both arms around Aurum’s neck, and stepping just a little closer. Swaying couldn’t be done at arm’s length, after all.

Proximity was a wonderful thing sometimes. So was comfort, and contentment, and beautiful music.
It had been a while since Riley had heard this particular song, but it seemed to fit the night so well. Aurum agreed that the music selection was good, and Riley smiled back at his smirk before settling in with her cheek against his shoulder. She would definitely remind him. She would definitely thank his friend as well.
”I don’t know if I’ve said thank you for asking me tonight…” she said after a few moments of silent swaying. ”But thank you.”

Her head was on his shoulder. Her arms, wrapped around him. And the music? It was singing about kissing. It was enough to give a man-- okay, that joke had already been done. Screw it.
With her like that, and the night like it was, and the music, playing... he couldn't help himself. He already had the idea.
"Riley," Aurum said, softly. By her ear. Which was on his shoulder. So close. If she just tilted her head a little...

She said ‘thank you’ and he said, ‘Riley.’
Something about the way he said it though, and the way the music was wafting, and the way that it was just cool enough out without being cold, and the way Aurum had been swaying with her…

Their eyes met. And in that instant, he really hoped his conveyed the thought on his mind. Because he was moving in, like a German bomber on foreign soil.
Their lips were inches, centimeters from touching. And then--
And then...
"Sha-la-la-la-la-la Don’t be scared You got the mood prepared Go on and kiss the girl "
Amelia chose that moment to call her brother on her cellphone. Aurum froze, caught in the act.

Their eyes met, and Riley knew what was going to come next…but there was something there that wasn’t usually present for something as trivial as a kiss.
There were butterflies in her stomach, and Riley’s breath was caught in her throat. Eyes slipping shut, She tilted her head that tiny bit further…
And the moment shattered in a flurry of music from a children’s tale. Aurum froze, and Riley dropped her head.

Aurum wasn’t a man to give up easily. That was something Riley had found out about him quite early.
Now was no exception. The phone had been an interruption, but Aurum wasn’t going to give up.
His hand found her chin and Riley let her head be tipped up once again, meeting his eyes.
No more interruptions, Riley decided as she took matters into her own hands and stood on her tip toes, pulling Aurum’s head down the rest of the way into the kiss.
