The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Aurum took her hand, and Riley let him lead her onto the floor. Rock and roll was hard to dance to in the best case, but she wanted to try. He’d been observant enough to know that the party games and arrogant friends weren’t necessarily her scene (or at least they’d been enough on the same page that it hadn’t been an issue) , the least she could do was try to dance.
She readied herself…and then the music cut. DJ Chad jumped the deck and presented the two of them with….a boom box, and a monologue about something he’d heard from….”The Oracle”?
Riley felt eyes on her. Lots of eyes, and suddenly she felt more naked than she’d ever been on the set of a photoshoot. What was this? Had Aurum set this up? They were supposed to go up to the roof? To avoid disaster?
Riley looked around the party, at all the almost co-eds with their dripping shirts and…lawyerness, then she looked at Aurum. This didn’t seem like something he’d do…especially because he wouldn’t have had to try to get her somewhere alone. Another look at the people at the party...yeah, she needed to get out.
”Yeah…let’s go.” she said. Cheeks pink under the demimask.

Aurum plucked the boombox from Chad's arms.
"Thanks."
Honestly, he was grateful, whatever 'crisis' it was they'd have been causing, or in the middle of, caused...? Because it gave them an out. This totally wasn't his scene.
Cbox in one hand, Riley's hand in the other, he led the way out the door and into the hall.
Music began anew. Everyone went about their normal business. Chad was pleased with himself. He'd saved those two kids lives tonight. Somehow. Man, Future Sight was OUT OF SIGHT. He didn't even know why!
Glancing around, Aurum searched for Chad's signs. Why hadn't they noticed these before...

Out of the apartment they went, and all Riley could find herself feeling was…relieved. There was no point in being mad at Aurum, there was no way that all of this could be his fault. All he’d tried to do was bring her to a party. A party they’d both kind of overdressed for.
They’d been instructed to follow signs that neither of them had seen on their way into the party, and so they followed. To an elevator.
”This is becoming a theme.” Riley said, still trying to shake the feeling of all those eyes on her. She pushed the button and led the way into the car. ”I’m guessing that wasn’t planned?” she asked.

"I didn't plan this." Aurum confirmed. "But... sounds like Chad did. Which is weird, because. I didn't tell him about bringing a date. Or even coming... what the hell is the Oracle. Gotta wonder."
Was all too weird.
"Anyways. To the top, I guess?" Hrm. Now, what would they do with the boom box up at the top, he wondered?
What music did this thing have in it, anyways?
The doors to the elevator closed behind them. He pressed a button.
A minute and a half later, they stopped just short of the top floor. A flight of stairs later, they went out a door, onto the roof.
The sky was clear. Stars tried to sparkle, despite the light pollution from the city below. The moon, at least, shone brightly in the night sky.
Aurum set the boom box down, kneeling beside it. He looked to Riley.
"So. What do you think this is going to do? Explode?" He joked.

Weird, Riley thought as the doors slid shut behind them, and what was an oracle. Maybe it was something they could look into later…after they got done doing whatever it was they were supposed to do on the roof.
The elevator made it to the top, and Riley followed Aurum out. The night was cool, but not cold, and the moon was bright, and Riley found herself immediately drawn to the edge of the rooftop. New York was one of those places where the sky line was pretty from anywhere with an altitude. This rooftop was no exception.
Aurum asked what she thought the boom box was going to do, and she smiled. ”Probably play music…” she said, ”Or give us a mission objective, then self-destruct.”

"Greetings, Angels..." Aurum muttered as he turned the thing on.
It did not explode. In fact, it didn't do anything shifty. Except... play ballroom music. Hmm...
"I guess..." He noted. "It wants us to dance."
Rising up, he moved to Riley and extended his hand. "Have to say, I vastly prefer this type of dance over the other." Sorry, rock and roll. And pop. And bumping and grinding. It wasn't you. It was him. He simply preferred dances with a bit more control.
When she'd taken his hand, he led her to the center of the roof, skirting a set of strategically-placed lawn chairs set out on the roof. Then, he twirled her and caught her, placing one hand on her hip.

Weird. The whole thing was just weird. Apparently Aurum had neglected to tell DJ Chad that they were even planning to come to the party, yet somehow the guy had known to have a boom box ready for them when they got ready to dance.
The boom box, as it turned out, did not explode. Instead it started playing ballroom music. That might have been worse. Riley wasn’t very good at ballroom dancing. In fact, she couldn’t think of a time that she’d ever ballroom danced. Hopefully, Aurum was in the same situation.
Yes, it seemed that the phantom boom box wanted them to dance, and Aurum liked this better than gyrating to pop, rock, or hip hop. Truth be told, Riley did too…but all she really knew how to do was sway. Aurum approached, and Riley couldn’t keep a nervous chuckle from escaping her as he offered his hand. She took it, was led to the middle of the roof and….
…was promptly twirled. Pleased with herself for keeping her feet despite the heels and the spinning, Riley adopted what was the generally accepted dancing pose with one hand on Aurum’s shoulder and the other in his.
This kind of dancing required proximity (unless a person wanted to just look silly), and Riley had to look up a little to ask, ”So is this something you do a lot?” she asked, ”The dancing, I mean…because I’m a novice.”

One, two, three, one, two, three. Aurum stepped and moved Riley with the music. In an impressive feat of coordination, he even managed to keep up a conversation while doing so.
"Not really." He said, small smile touching on his lips. "There was this girl who taught me, back in high school. It's kind of like riding a bicycle..." How else could one describe dancing? "You never really forget the feel."

Like riding a bike. Riley had to stop and think for a moment…what else had Aurum said was like riding a bike? It had been something to do with cooking…and she’d pointed out that she didn’t know how to ride a bike. There was no point in bringing that up again though…not when the music was so nice, and they were dancing so closely.
Aurum had learned from a girl in high school, and it was something that was apparently hard to completely forget. Riley followed his steps, letting him lead despite the compulsion to try and move through the steps on her own. Aurum was the one who knew what he was doing here.
”Your high school must have been different from mine.” Riley said. ”But I’m glad it was…otherwise we’d probably feel dumb with this kind of music playing.”

Yup. They’d have felt dumb.
Then he dipped her. Riley stumbled a bit, worried that she would fall, but she very quickly realized that being dropped was not a likely scenario. Aurum wasn’t the kind of guy to risk injury to his date for the opportunity to pull off a slick move.
She trusted him too. Huh. Wasn’t that interesting?
Riley was impressed, truth be told, and she laughed genuinely as she hung there, waiting to be righted.

Aurum aimed a smile at her that he thought was actually quite debonair. Then, he reeled her back in (like a fish), righting her and turning her round, back into the dance.

Oh my…that smile. Riley couldn’t help but grin back. Her cheeks were starting to hurt, in fact, from all the smiling that had been going on. It was a lost cause though, dancing like this, on a pretty rooftop, with a very handsome man and good music had a way of making it hard to think of reasons not to smile. Aurum pulled her back to him, and Riley settled back into the steps they’d been making before.
Riley was just thinking that maybe dancing like this wasn’t as hard as she’d always thought when Aurum complimented her. She smiled her thanks (again) and took the bait his trailing comment had left.
”Although what?” she asked, just a little bit breathless from all the movement.

The mask made it hard to see her eyes…
”That’s easy enough to fix.” she said, moving her hand from Aurum’s shoulder so she could tug at the ribbon that held the demi mask to her face. The knot came undone easily, and the mask slipped from her face to dangle from her fingers as she replaced her hand on his shoulder.
”Better?” she asked, looking up and meeting Aurum's eyes.
