The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Well. Riley had to resort to context clues to get the answer to her question. Amelia seemed to share the same last name as the wayward lawyer, and she did not usually share the residence. That meant that the ‘bro’ was probably accurate.
Interesting. Aurum had a younger sister. Riley wondered if he’d mentioned the fact before and quickly scanned her mind, coming up blank. Oh well. At any rate, it seemed like this sister liked to stop by unannounced. That had to be hell on her brother’s social life.
Aurum introduced her and almost in spite of herself, Riley was pleased. Sometimes when unexpectedly set upon by family, a guy would ignore his lady friend. Not Aurum.
Amelia seemed to bristle a bit at the introduction though, and if Riley knew anything it was a fake smile on another woman’s face. Even if it was a mini-woman.
Also. She had a nickname. Riley matched the girl, polite-dagger-slinging smile for polite dagger-slinging-smile.
”Nice to meet you Ami.” she said, making sure to get the weird pronunciation correct. Teenager girls could be so fickle about such things.
She could have said something like, ’your brother has said so much about you’ but if he had, Riley didn’t remember, so she just stuck with the odd silence for a moment, waiting for Aurum to don his cape and fly to the rescue.
"Well!" She said. "I'll be off now, then, and leave you two lovebirds to your meal. Pasta's on the stove. Bread is on the counter. Table is set. Bye~" With every word, she had inched herself closer to the door, and with every word, the dread in Aurum's mind grew more apparent and more apparent. On the final word, her hand grasped the door handle. She turned, and--
Fled!
The door clipped shut behind her, leaving Aurum alone with the minx.

Aurum popped his head out the doorway, into the hall, but by the time he'd managed to look around, she was long-gone.
Argh! What had she done this time!? Had she been spying on him, somehow, known he was inviting Riley back for pasta!? Or had it been something else? Was she-- Had she been-----
It was all so obvious. How could he have not seen it. With all the hushed whispers and conversations with Svetlana that she would not share with him. Ami--
Had developed psychic powers. The ability to read minds.
Inside Aurum's mind, he swore loudly. He really hoped she'd heard.
Like a soldier, he continued on, back into the apartment. He smiled weakly at Riley.
"Sorry about that. My little sister is... a handful." A 'handful' was the most polite way to say it.

Lovebirds…bread…table set….
The words all registered, but Riley was confused. Aurum’s sister had snuck into his place to set up a romantic dinner…for who?
For her? Riley stood, mildly dumbfounded as the teenager left the apartment and Aurum followed her to the doorway. Had Aurum somehow told his sister that he was bringing someone home from court? That they were going to be eating dinner? That there needed to be table settings and things like that?
There had been plenty of time for that to happen between lunch and the closing arguments…but still. Had he really done that?
Riley didn’t exactly know what to think. Her mind was jumping to all sorts of conclusions that she wasn’t sure how to deal with, and Riley tried to bring it to a halt. Was this a date? Were they on a date? In Aurum’s apartment? That his sister had set up?
The object of her thoughts returned and the weak smile on his face told Riley that something wasn’t quite right. Somehow, that made her feel better about the whole situation.
”Did she say lovebirds?” she asked, then shook her head.
”All I know is that I’m going to be pissed if that garlic bread I can smell gets burned.”

Lovebirds.
Lovebirds?
Had she said lovebirds...?
!?
"That's just Ami being... weird..." Aurum said slowly. "I didn't tell her about wanting to make pasta. I'm really not sure how she knew." He scratched his head, glancing towards the kitchen. "Well. Guess we should go see how badly she did making dinner."

He hadn’t told his sister that he was bringing anyone home for dinner. If anything, Riley was more confused now than she had been before. Confused but relieved. This hadn’t been some super contrived romantic date that Aurum had set up for the two of them. That so wouldn’t have been Riley’s style. Sure, the girl appreciated a romantic gesture and all that, but not out of the blue like this would have been. But if Ami hadn’t know they were coming…
”Then why?” she asked as she followed Aurum into what had to be the kitchen. Yes, she felt odd playing the puppy dog, but she’d never been here before and it felt odd to stay in the entryway.
The kitchen looked nice and…equipped. A stark contrast to her own which was…never used.
Also…it didn’t look like his sister had made a mess of things at all. In fact, it all looked really nice.
”Well. “ Riley said, stomach grumbling slightly at the smell of the bread. ”There’s no use in letting any of this food go to waste….”

>>”Then why?”
Aurum shrugged his manly shoulders. "Dunno." He said. "Maybe she's a mind-reader suddenly. Or she could have been setting up a trap." Knowing Amelia, it had probably been the latter. Although for whom, he did not know. "She did just get a new girlfriend, so..." He moved to check on the pasta, putting his back to Riley. "Could have been that." He might even have to deal with her wrath about it, later. Who knew?
Riley made a very good point. With all the delicious food Amelia had cooked, they could hardly let it go to waste.
The bread was still warm when he picked it up and brought it to the table. He pulled out a chair for her with a polite smile. Then, he looked to the pasta on the stove.
Yeah. Everything looked real good.
"Shame I didn't get to cook." He shook his head with a small chuckle.

A trap? Again, Riley wondered who that trap was for, but she kept her mouth shut on the subject. Sometimes there were things a person just didn’t want to know. Riley had a feeling that too much time on this subject would be counter-productive, so she let it drop.
Aurum was still bouncing ideas though. His sister had just picked up a new girlfriend. Riley had to laugh a little at that thought. Had she snuck into her brother’s apartment to set up a date with her own significant other? Suddenly Riley had a little more respect for the girl…that was smart, if it had been the motive here.
Aurum okay’d the eating of the food though, and Riley sat when he pulled out a chair for her.
It was a shame that he hadn’t been able to cook for her, and something about the way he chuckled suggested that she was missing out.
”Why? Are you as good at cooking as you are at coffee and lawyering?”

"Oh," He smiled modestly. "It's just a hobby. My mom used to make me work at her restaurant, in high school. Not so much in college. I made her let me work, then."
He moved to gather up the other things Amelia had set out for them. The pasta and sauce went center-stage on the table. He turned to check the fridge for salad fixings. As they spoke, he washed his hands.
Then, he got to chopping tomatoes and tossing the salad.

Yes. Yes it appeared that he was as good at cooking as he was at lawyering, and making coffee, and riding a motorcycle. Good lord. There had to be something that Aurum was terrible at, somewhere. As she sat and watched him chop a tomato, Riley wished that she could offer to help. Then she wondered what was stopping her.
Rising from the chair that Aurum had so solicitously pulled out for her a few moments before, she approached kitchen. ”Is there anything I can do to help?” she asked. ”I wouldn’t trust me with a knife, but I can do a good job washing things or moving them to the table.”
He’d said that his mom owned a restaurant, and that he’d helped out there when he was in high school. Jobs had started while he was in college.
”I did the waitress thing back in Chicago.” she shared as she washed her hands in the sink. ”Never actually did any cooking though. My mom wasn’t much of a cook.” No, she’d been too busy with her life, and Riley had been able to fend for herself. Everything had been fine, but cooking hadn’t been a priority.

He nodded, then nodded towards the fridge. "Get some dressing. Pick your favorites." Then finished fixing the salad, putting the sliced tomatoes into the mix.
Turning, with salad bowl in-hand, he smiled. "I think that's everything. Pasta, bread. Salad. We're set." To her, he added, still smiling confidently. "Sorry I couldn't find something for you to do. Maybe next time?"
He set the salad down on the table, and seated himself.

Salad Dressing. That was safe. Riley nodded her head and moved to the fridge that Aurum had indicated, opening it up to look for dressing.
Uh yeah. Aurum liked to cook. His fridge was, needless to say, well stocked. There was more food in his fridge than hers probably saw in a year. Not for lack of money or anything…but just because she didn’t cook.
Riley finally found the dressings on the door and picked a few out, bringing them to the table behind Aurum and the salad.
”This was about all the help I’m probably useful for.” Riley admitted as she set the dressings down and returned to her seat.
”Yeah. Haven’t you ever heard that there’s nobody who’s actually from Chicago?” she said. She’d heard it, and in her case it was true.
”I grew up in Chicago. Didn’t come out here until I was nineteen. Before that I just worked waitressing jobs and things like that. Wasn’t nearly glamorous enough.”

Riley chuckled and shook her head at Aurum’s commentary. ”I came out here because someone told me in Chicago that I’d look good on the pages of a magazine.”
That part was true enough. Riley couldn’t even remember the guy’s name anymore, but she’d met him in a mall. He’d stopped her and her friends and asked them if they’d wanted to be models. They’d taken some pictures and thought nothing of it.
Then she’d gotten a call. They’d liked her stuff, they wanted to do some more. So she’d done her first print stuff. Minor, not great pay, but she’d still felt like she was living the life. It hadn’t been enough though, even though she was “too short” Riley had known that New York was where it was at, so she’d saved up and taken off as soon as she’d graduated from high school.
”It wasn’t exactly everything I’d dreamed of.” she admitted, taking a piece of the still-warm garlic bread. While she waited for Aurum to get his salad and pass it on.
”But things rarely are and I guess I found my niche.” she added with a small smile. ”Just not where I thought it’d be.”

>>”I came out here because someone told me in Chicago that I’d look good on the pages of a magazine.”
He silently agreed.
Wait. Hadn't he already told her something embarrassing, and to that effect? While she'd been down on herself, perhaps? Eh. He couldn't recall.

"Oh yeah?" He asked. A chuckle. "I'm still looking for mine."
