The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

And he was teasing back. Good, the distraction worked. Plus, with his slight adjusting, the kicks she was giving the punching bag were feeling much more comfortable and natural.
But then he said that he was sure he could help her with her energy levels, and Lee grinned over at him. That did should good, and judging from his smile, it would be enjoyable. But they weren't there for that, though maybe later…
After a number of more kicks Lee glanced at Blaine once more. ”Alright Mister, what else do you have for me?” Lee asked.
He thought a moment as she glanced at him. "Here's one I don't use often, but I keep it in my back pocket, just in case." Stepping to his bag where she could see, he performed a few roundhouse kicks at different heights. "Notice how no matter how high I'm kicking, my form stays the same."
Then, he stepped back to let her try. "While the front kick is used generally to push the opponent away, the roundhouse is more of an actual strike because it's quick, easy to use, and quite powerful. And if you can kick high enough--which I'm sure you can--it could even be delivered to the face or head for a knock-out blow."
He sort of folded his arms across his chest, waiting for her to try what he'd demonstrated. The thought crossed his mind that maybe after his last fight, he could just come to the gym and train people.
Lee couldn't help but smile as she watched Blaine demonstrated the next kick. If he would actually spar with her at some point, Lee realized that she was actually have a challenge with Blaine. Her smile widened slightly. She'd need to get some practice in first, but it could be fun.
Then it was her turn, so Lee turned back to her bag, starting the kicks at hip level to figure it out before changing the height. After about five or so kicks, Lee looked over at Blaine, the slight smile still on her face. Then looked him up and down. ”I doubt I'll be able to actually reach your face, though,” she said, her smile growing more teasing. ”I have enough trouble reaching your lips when I'm wearing heels.”
He smiled as he watched her form, she actually was quite impressive, and she seemed to catch on rather quickly. "Good. Maybe you couldn't reach my face, but if you deliver one of those bad boys behind the knee, it can set you up for a blow to the midsection to take their breath away for a second, and then they're all yours," he said, smiling slightly at the rest of her statement, though deciding to keep it mostly professional since they were in public.
"That's what I like about fighting. You have all these techniques at your disposal, and you have to put them in such a way to outwit your opponent, who has a different set of techniques, but in the end has the same goal. In that sense, it's just as much mental as it is physical." Then he smiled a little. "However, few people actually have formal training, so if you're only using this in emergency situations, you're likely to have an edge over the troublemaker, because they're not going to have this mindset, or the execution required to pull off a lot of these."
Lee saw the smile that Blaine gave her when she mentioned his lips, though he didn't say anything. He did, however, give her tips on what she could do considering her short stature to disable an opponent. So Lee listened carefully, nodding, as she took it in.
Then she went back to the bag, slowly working let kicks higher, as she listened to Blaine telling her about what he liked about fighting, how it was just as much mental as physical.
”I generally have an edge,” Lee said, grinning over her shoulder at Blaine. ”Maybe someday you'll let me actually show you.” With a wink, Lee kicked again, this time at shoulder height.
He thought on this for a moment as he watched her work. "Maybe one day, I'll get in there with you," he said quietly. Since she was already proving herself little by little, maybe it'd be okay...
"Good kick. Now, there's one more to show you, but I can't do it that well. It'd work for you though." Turning to the bag, he started off facing it, then quickly turned and delivered a side kick with the side of his foot hitting the bag about hip level. "Keeping form the same as there, you could probably get it to someone's diaphragm, or chin. Very quick, very disorienting, could even crack a rib or knock someone out if you do it right. But I'm not that flexible." He gave a small shrug before demonstrating the kick a few more times.
He took a few moments, and his voice was quiet, but finally Blaine allowed that maybe one day he'd get in the ring to spar with her. Maybe he was starting to truly realize that she wasn't as fragile as he had seemed to think at first.
Then he complimented her kick, and Lee couldn't help the smile that came to her face. It had been at least 8 years since she had last set foot in a gym, and she had never really worked on kicks before, so she was glad she seemed to be doing well.
But he wanted to show her one more kick, one that he wasn't good at bit he figured ah she'd be able to make good use of it. So she watched carefully; if Blaine had trouble with it, Lee would have to pay particular attention.
Then it was Lee's turn. It was a bit harder this time, trying to translate what she had seen Blaine do into the correct form for her to perform the kick. This one definitely felt more awkward, though. After trying it a few more times, Lee turned to look at Blaine. ”Ok, what am I doing wrong here?” Lee asked.
He watched her carefully. " Let's start with just the kick. You're going to want to put your weight on your back foot while slightly leaning in that direction. I can't get my leg as high without falling over, but it's like this." He demonstrated the kick a few times without the pivot, then stepped back for her to try.
"This one is trickier to pull off, but it's a hell of an asset to have. Take it slowly." After he'd finished, he sort of stood behind her, his hands gently helping adjust her stance. "Okay, now try."
Apparently, Lee had more wrong with this kick than she had thought. When Blaine started explaining the kick on its own, Lee's brow creased slightly in concentration add she watched him. And when he stepped back, Lee nodded as she moved forward to try again. It was awkward without the pivot but at least the kick itself felt better. To her, at least.
Then she felt Blaine's hands, adjusting her position. Again, she couldn't help but smile a bit. Position adjusted, Lee did what Blaine said and tried again. Then a serious time. ”Any better?” Lee asked. ”And you're pretty good at this.”
"Much better. Once you're comfortable, you can try adding the pivot. That's the tricky part because you're changing everything in an instant: direction, stance, point of view, and then you're going straight into an attack and everything has to be just right. I only really use this against guys I can't overpower. So...not often." He gave a slight wink as he finished speaking, then quirked a brow.
"Good at what? Fighting? I'd kinda have to be," he said with a slight chuckle.
Blaine believed that she was doing much better, at least on the kick itself. Now, adding the pivot, that could change everything.
And then Blaine was questioning what she said that he was good at. ”No,” Lee said, then shook her head. ”I mean, you are, but that's not what I meant. What I meant is that you're doing a good job helping me.” Flashing Blaine a smile, Lee turned back to the bag, attempting the full kick again.
He nodded, watching as she attempted the kick again. "Better. As you practice, you'll start to melt into the new stance. I had to rely on muscle memory, but I was told you can feel yourself transitioning automatically--My trainer at the time kept forgetting I couldn't feel." He gave another chuckle.
"Also never take your eye off your target. Even if you keep it in your peripheral, make sure you know where you're hitting." He stepped back again; he was really enjoying seeing this side of her.
"I like doing this with you," he finally said after a moment.
Lee nodded and smiled slightly when Blaine said that that attempt had been better. Nodded again when he explained that he had been told you started to feel it and it would start to become automatic.
But then Blaine told her to never take her eyes of her target, and Lee couldn't help but roll her eyes at that. ”Isn't that obvious?” Lee asked with a slight shake off her head. Then she gave him a bit of a smirk. ”And when I need to hit something that can actually hit back, I do keep track of exactly where they are. And not just with my eyes.”
That said, Lee turned to practice the kick again, only to smile over her shoulder as she heard Blaine's next words. ”You know, I'm enjoying this too.”
"It is, but I was referring to the exact spot you plan to hit as well. It's a powerful kick, but you don't wanna fire a cannon with your eyes closed,” he replied gently.
He stood back as she continued, keeping an eye on her form, and noting how graceful she looked as she was landing kicks on the bag. Beauty with a hint--or a decent sized helping--of danger.
"You're doing much better now. Before long it'll be second nature to you. Then you can start mixing and matching with what you know. I can even show you a few holds before long, if you want."
Ok, Blaine did have a bit of a point there. So Lee focused her eyes on the punching bag as she continued to practice her kicks.
Or, she was practicing until she heard Blaine tell her that she was doing much better. At that, Lee turned and smiled at Blaine. Only to hear Blaine say he could teach her some holds. After a while. ”Oh, you could, could you?”[/colour] Lee asked, raising an eyebrow at the man standing in front of her. ”I may be out of practice and out of shape, but I'm sure I'd still manage to surprise you.”
