The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Focusing on things other than each other? Now why in the world would they do something silly like that? Maybe the few drinks were starting to get to her a little, but she came from a family with strong constitutions. +2 poison resist. While she wasn't on her brother's level, having only recently become old enough to enjoy a good drink, she could handle herself. And in her current state, she didn't see much merit in not snuggling up on the couch.
It was true, she had been the one to suggest card games from the start. Her family played card games, and drinking card games were a blast. But that usually involved multiple people, and losing meant drinking (and winning also, if you thought that way). And those games were better with more than one. They'd have to find people to hang out with. Maybe they'd dig up some fun board games and card games, and have a couples night some time? She remembered hearing about some Never Have I Ever game that was kind of crazy. But thinking about this stuff wasn't answering Serena's question. It was just making her smile at the blonde, and act dumb.
"Little bit more active, I think." She nodded. Squeezed Serena's hand in return. And gave her a little kiss.
Yeah, because that was helpful. A woman tells you you're not contributing to Valentine's day except with cuddles, and expects you to shape up and contribute by playing a card game, and that was her first response? She could do much better than that.
"Active," she repeated significantly. Looked into Serena's eyes for a second, and then asked her. "So what kinds of games do you have?"
What? Did it seem like she was going somewhere else with that line of thought. She could behave. Theoretically.
It was kind of magical that every time Amelia gave Serena even a little, or a gentle kiss she still felt her heart flutter a little bit, there was definitely something there that was constant, a feeling of constant elation and disbelief that she was with somebody she liked so much.
Okay, so cards on the table. She had actually expected Amelia and her to end up playing a card game, she even had a selection she'd recently added to, she had stuff appropriate for two people too! She had a couple of exploding kittens decks, which were a great deal of fun and giggles, that she had all ready and set up to play. But she also had expected herself to have a greater deal of self control.
She felt her fingers grasping her girlfriend from her back and pulling her gently closer, slowly wandering up to her hair and playing with it as the two of them gazed into each other's eyes and shivered a little bit.
"I have uhm.. Some silly card games here and there..." She gulped, still playing with the brunette locks and continued. "Exploding kittens, or any number of video games..."
She bit her lip and smiled a little awkwardly, feeling like she was bashfully flailing around. Probably looking like so too. "You don't actually want to play card games, do you?" She asked, more than a little suggestion in her tone.
Like all theories, this one could be proven or disproved. And with Serena acting like she was, it was really hard to prove anything. Fingers in hair. Mmm. And that slightly awkward rambling. How could she not fall?
>>"You don't actually want to play card games, do you?" Serena asked her.
Amelia smirked. She let the silence reign for a bit. One moment, two. And then she asked an incredibly important and revealing question. It showed a lot about a person. Dug deep. Got to the nitty gritty parts of what makes someone who they are, and what they value. A timeless question, really?
Amelia asked Serena. "What kind of person wants to make kittens explode?"
There actually was no response needed for Amelia's question. It was entirely rhetorical. A moment after she asked it, she disentangled herself from Serena, and found her feet. She stood in front of the blond, smiling a disarming smile, and offered the girl a hand up.
Seriously, what kind of person would want to make kittens explode? Especially when there were much better, ahem, two player activities.
They could build a blanket fort. Or get tangled up in twister. Find some not-so-trivial pursuit that involved a lot of scrabble, or scrabbling. Take a Risk. Risk Trouble. Perform some Taboo Operation of which neither player would likely be Sorry! And-- Okay. Board game puns. Was that where her mind had taken her? Board game pun innuendo. Clearly, Serena had caught her in the damned Mouse Trap she'd baited. And -- There she went again, with the board game puns. She didn't have a clue why her mind was going funny places. It was mind-boggling. Maybe it was because she'd already figured out where she wanted this night to go, and her mind was dogging her with how silly it was to stave it off.
"Nah," Amelia said. "To answer your question, nah. Not sure I'm in the mood for card games." Her lips described the arc of a parabola. Surely, Serena would get what she was hinting at.
The silence between her question and Amelia's reply was a little deafening. Serena wasn't experienced with long term or serious relationships, or sexual connotations that went with them. She was borderline terrified of messing it up, but Ami didn't seem to be too worried on either front there, she was confident and that made Serena's nerves glitter little more.
Her nerves cracked into a loud laugh as Ami asked her the question. She wiped tears from her eyes shaking her head at her girlfriend again. "Only you." She purred with affection and kissed the other girl again, a little more deeply before breaking it and letting her continue with her explanation.
She took the girl's hand up with a smile. Observing her teasing body language. And shivered a little as she looked her dead on once more, pondering many things that did not involve bored games.
She chuckled as the girl commented, it was a nervous sound more than anything else. "Well... I might be oblivious to a lot, and a lot of innuendo... but I think I get what you're after there." She admitted, her cheeks flushing in again, leaning in to kiss her girlfriend again, her hands once more finding her hair and playing with it quite excitedly. Her skin giving of nervous electricity as she made contact.
Amelia kissed Serena back, and the rest got a bit hazy.
***
Bacon sizzled on the pan, alongside some fried eggs. Amelia turned the eggs, and watched the bacon.
Serena hadn't woken up when she'd extricated herself from bed to make breakfast, and that had been fine by her. Breakfast in bed was a surprise one didn't want ruined by silly things like people wandering into the kitchen from off-screen.
She felt kind of monotone, in the white apron and her white t-shirt, but that was alright. Who needed fashion when you were making breakfast? The jacket and cardigan, she'd left piled on the couch with the rest of her stuff. Serena had quality curtains. That was good. She'd made sure those were closed.
The coffee maker burbled on the counter not too far away.
Pancakes cooked on a nearby griddle. Amelia turned away from the bacon and eggs to quickly lift the pancakes off as they were finished, then wrapped up cooking the bacon and eggs. Her apron was lightly dusted with flour. There was a smear of flour on her left cheek, too. She hadn't noticed. Cleanup would come later. Flour was way better on the front of her apron than on bare legs or the floor. The last thing she wanted was to leave Serena's kitchen a mess. Hopefully, if she wandered in to a messy kitchen, it wouldn't be the kitchen she was looking at.
After an interesting night of first experiences and ahem... Fade to black content. Serena slept quite contently tangled with her girlfriend. It had been a pretty awesome time, her first valentine's day with a partner ended up being completely lovely. She rolled around a little bit mumbling, wiping her mouth and rubbing her eyes she noted that her partner wasn't around.
She rolled over and sat up. Looking around her room, seeing discarded clothing and blushing a little retroactively. She scooped up some clothes and then smelt the distinct smell of bacon and rolled out of bed. Tip toeing out of the room she glanced around, blinking and noting that the curtains were still closed, she turned towards the kitchen, hearing the steaming coffee and smelling the food.
She saw a figure with dark hair, with an apron and not too much on their lower half at work in the kitchen and tip toed over to her. She laced her fingers across the other girl's tummy and kissed her cheek. "You. Are the best girlfriend, ever." she murmured, still a little bit sleepy.
"Aw," Amelia said. There was a tiny pout on her face, but a hint of amusement in her voice. "It was supposed to be a surprise. I wanted to bring it to you in bed." Proximity was nice. Hands. Closeness. Made it hard to be stubborn. But not too hard. "I'll tell you what. You get back in bed. I will bring the food in in a minute."
Or, you know what? That was silly. And fake-pouting was not her strong suit. Amelia tilted her head so she could return a kiss, before Serena had a chance to reply. Her hands were full of baking utensils. Bacon and eggs needed to come off soon. But there was time for kissing.
Mouth curved up in a tiny amused smile, Amelia turned back to her cooking, amending her previous statement as she did. "Why don't you go ahead and set the table, then? I'll finish up here. Since you're already up, and all of that." Wrapped around me, as it were, Amelia thought.
It wasn't as if she was embarrassed about her current attire, and wanted Serena to break the closeness. She was wearing the sort of things she usually wore to bed. T-shirt, undergarments. No apron. That wasn't a usual pajama option. No, it wasn't out of embarrassment. It was out of practicality. It's hard to move around the kitchen with a woman wrapped around your back (crushing as the lack would be).
Serena enjoyed the scent of cooking food, and the smell of her girlfriend as she leaned in against her back, pressing gently against the apron clad clothing manipulator. As the girl spoke she giggled and planted several more kisses on and around her neck. "What fun is that, I'm up now?~" She purred.
The kiss, was fun. She did make sure to keep an eye on the food that Amelia was cooking though. Odd, she'd never really thought about her partner's cooking skills, she usually ordered take away or something if they were hanging out, both with pretty full schedules it was nice to get time off just with each other.
Smiling at Ami one more time, she gave her another quick kiss and let her hands wander a little bit before dashing off to set up the table, she layed out a couple of plates and knives and forks before moving over to the drinks area. "Do you want coffee or juice or what?" She asked rapidly, brain still buzzing from the night before.
Especially compared to the previous night, she was absolutely brimming with confidence. The nerves that had been plaguing her over the relationship had all but melted away now, and she was practically glowing with happiness at this point. She poured herself out a cup of coffee, adding an obnoxious amount of sugar.
"Or what~" Amelia sang back to her, waited a beat, then smirked to herself. "Coffee, please." She said sweetly.
Unlike her brother, she liked her coffee sweet with sugar or cream. Not bitter, like the fires of hell. Although there were some good jokes about how one likes their coffee... she tried one, as she finished dishing up the food onto plates and turning off heating elements.
"I like my coffee like how I like my woman," Amelia said blandly, and shot Serena a knowing smile. Blandly, because she knew how corny those types of jokes were, and knowing, because she knew Serena would be amused in spite of that... knowing, because of other things, too. "Make an educated guess~" She said.
The punchline of the joke entirely depended on Serena's reaction. Of course, when she'd made it, she'd been thinking of the previous night. But if she'd done that punchline, her coffee wouldn't have any sugar at all. It'd be au natural, nothing added, and um. Probably served in bed. That seemed counter-intuitive to her desire for something warm and sweet. With maybe a hint of creamer. At the breakfast table. But eh.
Amelia walked over a tray of pancakes, bacon, and fried eggs. She set the tray on the table, and draped her apron over the back of a chair.
Amelia's ability to make quick use of wordplay and the accompanying sense of humour never ceased to astound Serena. Even her simple dramatic pause and trail off made the blonde's lips light up into a big smile, which she tactically hid from her girlfriend by getting to work on grabbing a few mugs out to make some coffee for herself and possibly the brunette charmer working on the food.
By this point the two of them were pretty in sync. They had a relatively good working understanding of schedules, likes and dislikes and knew each other's coffee preferences inside and out. As such Serena knew to dress up Ami's with plenty of milk and sugar, and some creamer. Hers was a more traditional latte, with mostly milk and only a little froth. With a nice shot of gingerbread flavoured syrup in it.
Serena snorted and burst into a fit of giggles, nearly dropped the coffee pot. Thank you reflexes. Turning with a wide, amused smile to the lovely brunette "What, pale, English and horribly, romantically awkward both in and out of bed?~" She responded with more than a little tease in the tone.
She set the drinks down on the table and swiftly moved back over to her girlfriend, and as she finished placing things on the table and draping the apron, Serena draped her arms around the other girl, pulling her tightly against herself with a happy giggle and a kiss on the cheek, absolutely radiant, overflowing with affection she simply murmured. "I love you."
The girl nearly lost the coffee pot in her torrent of laughter. Serena managed it, though, and didn't lose it completely. That would have been a crying shame. Amelia found herself smirking at the whole trial, the girl's crack, and her attempt to regain composure and tease right back.
Amelia laughed at Serena's lighthearted and self-deprecating teasing. Pale and awkward? Responses ran through her mind like sheep being herded into an enclosure. She could have said "Warm and yummy." She could have said "Hot and sweet." "Nutty." "A hint of vanilla." Or "Full of chocolate." She said none of that. Instead, she just said "Yep." And let Serena deal with the resulting emotions from that. "You know me well, blondie." Amelia grinned.
Serena set the drinks down, and glided up to her just as she'd finished organizing things neatly where they could be reached. The blonde encircled her in her arms, in the warmest of embraces, pecked her on the cheek, and murmured "I love you." by her ear.
Amelia sighed wistfully, and returned the sentiment, resting a hand on Serena's cheek. "I love you too, Serena." She said.
