The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Walking. Man, it was going to be a long way no matter how they sliced it, and Quin really didn't feel up to the challenge. The sounds of the riot wafted down the street though, and the redhead sighed. There was nothing for it.
She nodded at her partner, and started walking in what she thought was the general direction of damn Mansion.
"I don't know the last time I saw a pay phone...but I know they still exist." she said over her shoulder, for good measure.

Silently, Ashton agreed. They existed. And so did white whales. And so they walked. On and on.
The minutes just flew by.
He hurt, his head ache was getting better, but still pained him, and the city had gone to hell in a hand basket. The going was not easy. Thankfully, it wasn't eventful enough to dwell on too much. Any people they saw didn't hold them up or bother them. That is, up until the Orc from Mordor burst out of a shop with a big screen TV in her arms.
Now, Ashton had never seen a female orc before. Never in the movies, never in literature or games. The only reason he even knew they existed was because common sense dictated it. HOw could a race exist without them? Not being too big of a textbook nerd, never having fully understood the lore of orcs in Lord of the Rings, and never having played Dungeons and Dragons, he didn't know all the subtle details about how or why an orc actually wouldn't need a female of its species... if, in fact, it did not. He didn't care. If female orcs existed, this woman was a textbook example. She was what one would have looked like in the movie makeup, if not the proper garb. He stopped walking.
A cherry top squad car and cop rolled up against the curb beside them. Whoo~ it said. "Drop the television and put your hands behind your head!" The officer insisted, gun drawn on the orc. The man's eyes snapped left, to focus on Ashton and Quin for a moment. A flicker of recognition passed over him. This guy was someone from MRC, though not a mutant cop. "You two look like crap," he commented cheerfully. "Need a lift?"

Quin almost cried when the Police car pulled up and the Officer recognized them.
The going had been rough for the last...however long it had been, and Quin knew they still had a significant distance to go. The black and white was an absolute gift from God. For her part, the looter dropped the TV and ran. Quin didn't even have to ask if the orc had been real. The reaction of the boys was more than enough. The redhead didn't chase either...there was a riot going on. They'd saved the TV, what more could the city ask?
"Yes please. Just take us wherever he wants." she said, already climbing into the back of the car. Ashton could have the front...she just wanted to sit.

The orc running was a refreshing change. He'd figured it would have drawn a hooked blade, and wanted to do battle, or something ridiculous. Maybe if it had been male, it would have... it seemed like females of the species had more sense. They didn't argue with guns.
As he recalled, the man's name was Frank. Unless it was Bobby.
"What's your name again?" Ashton queried, as he followed his partner into the back of the squad car... and took note of the humor of it. Cops behind bars.
"Gimli, son of Gloin." The officer said wryly. "Frank," He added. Where to?
Ashton told him, and it wasn't long before they were on their way.
By the time they'd reached the mansion's gates, everyone had a good idea of the situation in the city. He'd hoped it would be better than that, but sadly, Ashton hadn't had things turn out his way. It was a mess. "Thanks for the ride, Frank." Ashton said, as he closed the car door with a click.
"Any time. Here." Underhand, he tossed Ashton a clip-on talkie. Standard issue. "Use that if you get in trouble.

All the way through the drive to the Mansion, Quin had sat in the back seat with her head back against the seat. Every bounce made it throb a bit, but her double vision had cleared over time. That was promising. Her shoulders hurt though...her shoulders and everything else. It felt like they'd been rolled down a mountain instead of simply been flipped over...something was just wrong about that.
"Thanks Frank." Quin said as she climbed out of the car, "Tell Molly that I said hi and if things have cleared up I'm still good to bring the hummus to the BBQ on Sunday."
The young cop nodded, assuring Quin that he would before putting the car back in gear and heading into the fray. There she stood, staring at the large gates that separated the Mansion from the rest of the world.
"Now what? Somehow I don't think they're taking NYPD walk ins at the moment...and I've heard rumors about the security."

Shoulders shrugged. Casually, he walked up to the gate's buzzer and rang in. Told his name, greeted the gatekeeper. Didn't take long to get the gates opened up after he'd explained the situation. Johnny was glad to help.
"I knew a guy," Ashton commented, as he strode on past her, through the gates.

"Of course you did." Quin said as the two of them made their way through the gates. "And that's what bugs me."
It really was a problem for Quin. "Are we going to walk in and see that orc from the TV shop because they knew someone too?"
She fumed for another moment as they walked. "Moreover, if a regular person had rang that buzzer, or any other cop...would they have opened the gates?" Quin's head hurt, and she was grumpy...the snark really wasn't her fault...

It bugged her? It... bugged her. What was she saying? Was she insisting the people at the mansion were bad people, that they harbored criminals, and turned a blind eye to it? Or would have let no one that needed it in? Turned a blind eye?
"Quin..." Ashton said. His eyes were stern. "I don't like that attitude. We are guests."

Quin raised an eyebrow at Ashton when he reprimanded her. What was he wanted her to do, completely set aside her moral objections to the Mansion simply because he'd insisted on going there for help? She stopped walking and crossed her arms.
"I'm not sure your opinion on my attitude is relevant right now." she said shortly, "And unless I'm mistaken, I was talking to you, not one of them."
They were about halfway to the Mansion doors, there was a riot going on behind them in the streets of the city, and Quin had chosen this moment to make a stand.
"You know I have a problem with this place. You thought that would change because I bumped my head?"

"No," Ashton said. "I don't. But just so you know... this place is a school. A place where they teach kids, and help people. The X-men is something else entirely. I thought your beef was with the X-men, not the mansion... and you were just insinuating the mansion would turn us away because we're cops." Little harsh.
He'd thought she was better than that. The school itself had done nothing wrong. They weren't vigilantes. They taught maths and science. The mansion and the X-men weren't one and the same.

"I was insinuating that nobody should be above the law." Quin said, arms still firmly wrapped around her middle. "And besides being a school, it houses a paramilitary organization, and adults."
This wasn't getting them anywhere, and arguing was just going to make things worse. The redhead sighed and ran a hand through her hair. She'd thought better of Ashton, it sounded like he was insinuating that she didn't care about all the kids the Mansion helped.
"Let's just go. We're already here."
She took a deep, frustrated breath.
"I won't embarrass you in front of anyone." she added, still stinging from his insinuations.

A sigh escaped him. They definitely didn't have time for this. Still, as they walked, he made time. "I don't approve of vigilantes..." He said calmly. "And you're right. This school houses them. And sometimes the X-men help... but ultimately, things would probably be better left to the police. That doesn't change the face that you suggested these people would leave us out in the cold, just because we're police. That they wouldn't help us. And ultimately, I think that's a pretty bold accusation for people you haven't even met."
He glanced over his shoulder. "We can drop it, Quin. I just want to say my part. And you can say yours. The infirmary should be somewhere over here by the offices..." He went back to leading as he trailed off.

"I never said that." Quin insisted as Ashton looked over his shoulder. "I asked you what you thought...and oddly enough, I don't think you ever answered."
She was still fuming, but they needed to get past this discussion and find what they needed. Quin figured it was good, because the sooner they did, the sooner they could leave and maybe go home.
"Lead the way. " she said, pleasantly and professionally.

Lead, he did.
"I don't think they'd turn us away," He said without looking. "Not unless we were a threat."
As they walked, he noticed an eye or two peeping out from doorways, windows, around corners. The mansion wasn't empty, that was for sure. He found Doc Prof's office easily enough... even though he'd only met him in passing. And what luck? He was actually there.
"Hello..." The old man trailed. "Can I help you...?"
"Yeah..." Ashton's head turned Quin's way. "We were just in a car accident, Quin and I. I think she has a concussion. I'm Ashton, by the way..."
"Oh yes, the police officer. I remember." Doc Prof replied, nodding his head understandingly. "Well, sit down. Sit down." He gestured towards a pair of chairs. "I can't very well examine you while you're standing. That cut looks like it could use some attention too, boy."

Quin wanted to argue...she really wanted to argue with Ashton. She didn't need him to be all nice and accommodating now that they were in the infirmary. In fact, it was obnoxious.
...that wasn't the Doctor's fault, so she sat down in the seat as she was directed. The doctor was already looking at her, and she smiled at his kindly face, "I'm Quin." she said, "Thanks for seeing us."
Waving her off with a smile, the doctor did the glowy thing with the light in her eyes and she winced when he ran his fingers over the bump behind her ear. "Definitely a concussion." He said, hand still in place over the lump.
"I've got just the thing though..."
Quin expected the man to move away, come back with aspirin, and prescribe that she be woken up every two hours throughout the course of the night. Instead, his hands glowed and the throbbing in Quin's head quickly dissipated into an echo of its former glory. She gasped, and then had to chuckle at the sparkle in the older man's eye. Of course he was a mutant with healing powers. Officer Archer had to admit...she was impressed.
"That's so much better...thank you. Now if you could see to my partner before he moves wrong and bleeds all over your floor...I'm sure he would appreciate it."
