The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was amazing how they'd been in one place one second, and then another. More amazing still that he hadn't thrown up on account of it. His partner's hand placement had kept him steady, and averted a catastrophe. He swallowed hard, and his palm fell over the bridge of his nose, fingers splaying over his face and eyes.
"Ugh," He tried to say. It came out a bit coarser, and hard to decipher. "Righ'.
Maybe they needed to rest for a moment, and get their head together.
Nearby, he heard the rotors of a news chopper passing over the city. Shifting their situation, he lowered himself down to the rooftop in a sit, legs bending up so his arms could rest on his knees. She could join him, if she so wished... hopefully, the news copter wouldn't see them squatting while riots went on nearby, and assume the worst. More bad publicity was the last thing anyone needed. His head hurt to high heavens, and it was another wonder he'd managed that thought. His head bowed forward.
"God, I'm flabby," He muttered in disgust. "Definitely need to work out my mutation..." Not being able to move both him and Quin rapidly was ridiculous.

Yeah...he was sick now. Quin wanted to click her tongue and lecture him some more about knowing his limits...but Ashton seemed well aware of them as he sunk down onto the rooftop. There were helicopters now, news ones that were recording the scene in the street where they'd just come from. Surely they were dramatically zooming in on the crushed cop car in the middle of the road. Quin hoped that reporter was happy. The redhead's lip curled, why hadn't the woman just followed the word of the law and reported the cops to their superiors? Why had she insisted on the drama?
The helicopter swerved as a ball of...something hurtled out of the crowd and splattered on its windshield. Part of Quin was happy...the jerks probably weren't helping anything anyway. If the general public's opinion of the police had decreased, Quin's opinion of the local news had dropped exponentially more.
Heaving a sight, she dropped down onto the rooftop next to Ashton, just as he bemoaned his lack of beefy manly power capabilities. "It wouldn't hurt." Quin said, pulling her knees up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them, "But you really did pretty well...I mean seriously...you teleported two people across two buildings."
Her head still hurt, and there was a little pounding ache in her shoulder and neck, but now Ashton looked way worse. "Are you going to be okay?"

"Will be," He said quietly. "Just need a few minutes to gather reserves... straighten my head... stop the world, before I melt. You know. Heh,". That thing, he finished mentally.
It had been stupid of him to jump them so far, so rapidly... but really, what choice had they had? He'd get over it. He'd beef up. It was pretty much a certain that if he trained it, he'd probably be able to handle heavier loads. He hated calling Quin heavy, but that's where they were.
He gave it two minutes, let the wind blow over the rooftop, just the two of them. Let hair be tussled, let the world slow its turn.

It was amazing how calm everything was on the rooftop. The sun was shining, a breeze was blowing. If it hadn't been for the sirens and random sounds wafting their way up from the street, it could have been any pretty day in the early spring.
Except they were sitting on a roof, bleeding.
Quin's eyes were getting heavy, and all she really wanted to do was take a nap. The pounding in her head, the dryness in her mouth, and the vision that was slightly blurred suggested that was a bad idea though. The redhead chance a glance over at Ashton, then looked towards the end of the current roof. The next building wasn't all that far.
"Think we can jump to the next one, or are we going to have to climb down, then back up?"

His eyes snapped open. Hrm.
Ashton noted thoughtfully "Realistically, I should probably try and hold off on another jump unless it's an emergency... I don't want to push myself too hard. And you need all the help you can get. You're already acting exhausted from the jumping, too..." Which really shouldn't be happening. He inwardly added. Maybe she was still not used to jumping... likely... or maybe the concussion was interacting with the jumping, and it wasn't good. He finished roughly, "I should hold off."

It took Quin a minute to figure out exactly what Asthon was talking about. Did he want to rest more? She took a deep breath and let her head fall back. The sun felt good, even though she was still dizzy.
Oh wait. Jumping...
"Of course you should hold off." she said, pushing on Ashton's shoulder slightly. "I meant really jump...with our legs...."

"O-oh." Oh. See, now he felt stupid. "That makes more sense... how far is the next rooftop." He eyeballed it.
Hrm.
"Do you think you can make it?" He asked seriously. Sure, she was suggesting it, but the question was still valid. And important. They couldn't do much if they were both dead.
A crow crowed on the edge of the rooftop, flapped its wings, and flew off, definitely not an attempt at foreshadowing or a warning. Just a bird.

"You're asking the one with a head injury for a life and death decision that involves depth perception?" she asked, mild incredulity coloring her words as she looked at Ashton.
How far was it? The crow flew off, and the redhead shrugged her shoulders, "Six or seven feet? I don't know. Can you jump six feet?"
Quin looked over the edge of the building again...it sure was a long way down...
"Maybe if we just stay here, we can catch a ride on one of those stupid news helicopters."

>>"You're asking the one with a head injury for a life and death decision that involves depth perception?"
"You'd know better than me if the whole world was filed in triplicate currently," He drawled wryly.
>>"Six or seven feet? I don't know. Can you jump six feet?"
He let her finish her thoughts.
>>"Maybe if we just stay here, we can catch a ride on one of those stupid news helicopters."
Then, he sighed. "Guess we'll just have to go street-level. I don't want to share a helicopter with any idiot newscasters. They'll probably want an exclusive, or a comment on the whole thing, or something else ridiculously rude."
With a grimace and a grunt, Ashton shoved up off the rooftop, onto his feet. He dusted himself off, then turned to offer Quin his arm.

"Ha!" Quin said, instantly regretting how loud that bark of laughter had been. "I just wish my head would stop hurting." she said, reaching up for the first time to try and find the source of the pain...she found it in a giant lump just above her left ear. Just touching it sent a wave of nausea through her body, so Quin decided she'd avoid that from now on.
Ashton agreed that they might just have to go street level again and Quin heaved herself to her feet, wobbling a bit. "I'd do pretty much anything for an aspirin right now...so let's go." she said, offering Ashton a hand.

Ashton took her hand. One firm tug, and she was up. It didn't take them both long to find a ladder. Didn't take much longer to descend to street level. The noise of chaos was still crooning, but as they came down, it didn't look as hectic as the place they'd gone up. Of course, it made sense, Ashton reasoned, that a single riot wouldn't stretch several city blocks... he hoped.
He'd gone down the ladder first this time, so he could scope out ahead, and protect her if anything came rocketing out at them. Nothing did, so cautiously, the two of them stepped out of the alley, onto the main street.
Ashton's focus jerked down the street. The noises sounded like they were coming from that direction. As his eyes drifted back ahead of him, a man in a pink leotard pedaled by rapidly on a bike. Ribbons trailed. A bell rang 'ting ting!' Ashton glanced towards where the man had come from. It didn't look like any psychopaths were chasing him. Obviously that meant he knew how to handle himself. Those swans on his shoulders, though... had seemed odd. Eh. Whatever.
"Guess first, we need to find a ride to the mansion... guess we could commandeer a bike or something... or find a phone."

Getting down from the building wasn't as hard as it could have been, the ladder was sound and there didn't seem to be any crazies in the middle of the street after they descended. It looked like Ashton's teleporting had accomplished what they'd hoped for. Feet on the ground, Quin's eyes followed the biker down the street, and then she shook her head. "Please tell me that guy was real and I didn't hit my head so hard that I'm hallucinating?"
Ashton spoke and the redhead groaned. Did it have to be the Mansion? The X-Men were at the Mansion...not to mention her ex-boyfriend.
"Can't we go back to the riot down the street instead?" Quin said, just a little peevishly, even though she knew that the Mansion was probably going to be their best bet.

"I don't think you're hallucinating, because I saw him too. Unfortunately," Ashton trailed.
He said something about their course of action, and his partner didn't like it. A wry 'hmph' escaped him. "I'd rather get your head straight than find it torn off," He replied. Eyes darted left, right. Focused on a shop window. "Unless you have a cellphone, we might need to bust in to use somebody's phone."

Well. At least she wasn't hallucinating. In that moment, though, Quin didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Biking in a leotard wasn't illegal...but it probably should have been.
Cell phone...huh? Quin frowned some more and looked down the street.
"I left my phone in the car..."
Ashton's alternative kept her frowning.
"We can't break in somewhere Ashton...not with all the heat we're under already...how are we going to get there?"
