The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn had had quite enough adventure for one day. Or one week, rather. Her adventure to check on her apartment was a bust, she got herself chased halfway across Manhattan, tried to convince a goddess they weren't really a goddess and that certainly went over well, and now was the time to try to sneak back home.
Sneaking wasn't exactly her forte, she was quickly learning.
The city was a mess. Buildings had everything from dents in them to large segments missing, streets were beginning to crack, looters were looting. There was more chaos than order at this point, and she had several miles to go still. What she wouldn't give for a taxi or wings or teleportation...
Or flying cows. What the ---
The bewildered bovine seemed to be floating rather slowly through the city, it's pink nose sniffing the air, a light moo echoing off the bricks. It's tail gave a slight flick as if it's flight pattern could be deterred by the action as easily as a fly could. The sight was enough to cause her to wander out towards the road, watching as it decided to leave a large cow patty further along.

Mariusz hovered lazily in the air well above most of the goings on New York, watching a certain white haired woman with an almost unblinking golden eyed gaze as she moved through the streets far below. The woman didn't know he was up there, watching her progress, at least as far as he knew. He was supposed to be watching the Temple, but when he had seen Evelyn strike out from its confines he had made the decision to follow her. It was anyone's guess where she might be going, but odds were good she would need someone watching out for her since the city was still a big mess.
Silently he watched, bow in his hands though there was no arrow nocked for the time being. Quite a ways below he watched with some interest as an airborne cow floated by, mooing lazily and seeming as if it hadn't a care in the world. Where someone had found the cow to levitate in the first place was beyond Mariusz's ability to speculate at. Still, he had to admit, that it showed a certain bit of creativity on the part of whoever was making the cow fly.
Sara pulled her modified sunglasses lower on her nose as she strolled down the street. There was something that was floating above the wreckage of the building roofs and she was just making sure that it was no threat when…. She realized that it was a flying cow. Where in the world did someone get a cow to fly in the city?
This city was falling apart and Sara couldn’t feel more on edge than she felt in the last few days. There was a side of her that wanted to move out, and at the same time, there was a side of her that wanted to stay. Fight or run. New York was the first place that she had stayed in for more than a year since she’d broken free and been out on her own.
With a couple of jogging steps, Sara fell onto all fours into a light run. Moving alone through the city wasn’t the best idea now but moving swiftly, alone, was slightly better. So when she spotted Evelyn traveling alone as well, the flying mutant not keeping her attention more than a glance, She slowed to a stroll. “What in the world are you doing out?” Sara asked as she caught up to the other girl.
Gah! Why couldn’t she remember anything but Blondie for the girl’s actual name?

Evelyn's echoes were still trying to decide what breed the cow was when she heard the sound of moving feet. A slight sensation of panic rushed through her, but when she turned, that turned to light annoyance. Ugh...who let the cat out. It was a terribly generic thought, but considering the flying cows and the load of crap, there were other more atrocious crimes being committed in the city. She could have run into any mutant: that ape man, sparky, the speedster, but the werecat seemed to be high on her list of people she didn't want to deal with. It was a lot easier to just run. The conversation stuff tended to get her in trouble.
>>"What in the world are you doing out?"
Annoyance. That was a quick sensation that flickered through her, and it was followed by frustration and the fear she initially felt got buried. It didn't help that this cat had gone through the trouble to try saving her life. It kind of made you feel obligated to stay on your best behavior.
That would be easier if they didn't look like they could maul you.
"If you have to know, I'm trying to get home. Well, back to the mansion. There isn't exactly public transportation right now and it's slow going when I have to duck and hide whenever I see anyone. Especially with all the mutants running around trying to pick up a human or two." The term mutant slipped out a little sharper than she had hoped, and she glanced at the cat while picking up the pace and moved back towards the side of a nearby building.
Mariusz paused to hover in the air and watched the scene unfold below him between the platinum blonde woman and the cat woman. He was high enough up that he couldn't make out any of the conversation. Still, from what he could get from the body language nothing seemed to be getting too out of hand yet. For the moment, it looked like his services weren't needed. He assumed, at worst, that Evelyn would explain to the cat woman that she was a mutant and then be allowed to pass. He would have been far more worried about the situation if someone had approached that wasn't so obviously a mutant.
Still, on the off chance one was needed, the Czech man slid and arrow from the quiver at his hip and held the arrow loose at his side for the time being. There was no reason to take a truly defensive, or even offensive for that matter, posture for the time being since there were no signs of violence.
“Picking up humans.” Sara repeated Evelyn’s own words and twisting them. “that sounds like your talking about speed dating. Not a city in a crisis.”
Sara pushed off of the ground with her hands so that she was no longer moving on all fours, but still jogging lightly on her feet. “If you really think that you have to duck and hide, you should be hiding where it’s safer.” Sara said a little more crossly than she was trying to. For crying out loud, Sam let himself get thrown through a wall to protect her and here she was running a muck through the city that was falling apart again.

Evelyn's expression grew more irritated, and she huffed, glancing at the cat but trying to keep moving. "Yeah, speed dating only if 'getting a bite to eat' means you know, taking a bite out of the other party. You don't have to remind me the city is in crisis. I live here too you know." She said, voice getting a bit more cross.
She paused at an intersection, and another cow went lazily floating the other direction. This one seemed to be trying its best to run away from whatever was carrying it, but it's legs were peddling at empty air in what could have been a comical display. Where on earth had someone got cows anyway? It was reminding her of a poem--
[I've never seen a purple cow, I never hope to see one] She clipped the echoes short and turned back to the feline. There was a level of irritation on her feline features, and Evelyn didn't have long to ponder before she spoke again. "Well, I'm sorry, I had a few things to get from home, and the trip took longer than expected. Not all of us can just walk through the city right now, you know." She grumbled. The echoes had come back from their poetry recital and were now picking up subtle danger signs from her fellow mutant. There was also distant roaring down a side street she needed to keep an eye on.
"Yeah, speed dating only if 'getting a bite to eat' means you know, taking a bite out of the other party. You don't have to remind me the city is in crisis. I live here too you know."
Sara’s tail flicked in annoyance. Normally she could let small comments like that roll off with a scrug, but these last few days were so bad. “And in my opinion, by all means, you have every right to do so to, Blondie.” Sara’s right ear flicked back and forth too as if it were getting rid of a really annoying strand of hair. Sara caught up to Evelyn and she intended on only keeping stride with her but the next things that came from her mouth just ticked her off more.
"Well, I'm sorry, I had a few things to get from home, and the trip took longer than expected. Not all of us can just walk through the city right now, you know."
Sara resisted the urge she had to spit back the words ‘It’s because I’m furry. Isn’t it.’ She did her best to push that thought to the back of her mind but instead of staying there, it just made her more angry. She shouldn’t have to hide her own thoughts from the rest of the public no matter how it would tick off others just like she shouldn’t have to hide herself because of what other people thought. “You think that it’s that easy?”
Sara’s fist that she didn’t realize was clenched opened and she grabbed for the front of Evelyn’s shirt and with a swift pull and twist, Sara went to pick Evelyn up by the front of her shirt and pin her against the side of a broken brick building. “You really think that it’s that easy?!” She repeated louder. This time the end of her feline nose less than an inch away from Evelyn’s. “Sam could have killed himself to save you and yet here you are.”

The echoes were somewhere wandering down a side street, trying to decide whether or not the sounds were mutant related or not; They were also wandering along the sides of the building, identifying scorch marks, burn marks, broken bricks and others glues to who passed by; the echoes were even following the cow trying to decide what was holding it aloft in the air. Everything they were doing evaporated when the hand moved with surprising speed and had the pale haired girl by the shirt. Her back met brick with an uncomfortable pressure. The snarling was frightening, but Evelyn's anger was even stronger than fear in that moment. Tired, exhausted, and ticked off by the riots, she snarled right back.
"I think it's easy because you look like a mutant all the time. I'm getting attacked by BOTH sides! And I didn't ask Sam or you to come save me you overgrown house cat!" She realized perhaps a few moments too late antagonizing the angry woman was not advisable.
But the echoes were still wandering with the cow. They came back a bit too late for that reality check.
And there it was, the inevitable signs of violence. That simply wouldn't do, it wouldn't do at all. Nocking the arrow in his hand the Czech man raised the bow and drew the bowstring as he tucked his wings and plummeted through the air until he was only about fifty feet off the ground. His wings filled with air as he snapped them open which had the affect of abruptly ending the free fall.
Releasing the bowstring Mariusz loosed the arrow in the direction of the two women. The missile hissed through the air before burying itself in the crumbling brick wall within a foot of the heads of the two women. The winged man calmly drew another arrow from his quiver, fitted it to the bowstring, and drew it back, holding it ready for the time being.
"That will be quite enough of that," he called down to the two women. "Madam, I suggest you release the woman now or you will find that my next arrow will not miss its mark between your shoulder blades," he continued in a calm tone, addressing the feline mutant below him.
Sara was surprised at herself for her own actions. But she did have to hand it to Blondie. Even though she had a cat with a great deal of strength holding her against the wall, she’d seemed to have enough too.
"I think it's easy because you look like a mutant all the time. I'm getting attacked by BOTH sides! And I didn't ask Sam or you to come save me you overgrown house cat!"
House cat. HOUSE CAT!? Sara’s eyes dilated and her nostrils flared. One of her hands that had been holding onto Evelyn’s shirt found it’s self on Evelyn’s neck faster than a blink of an eye and Sara began go choke her. “If I’m a house cat, then you’re a bird braiii…” Sara was cut off as an arrow suddenly stuck in the wall next to the two of them. Oh this just kept getting better and better.
Her eyes focused on the arrow for a moment. It’s longer body wavering slightly, stuck in the building’s side. Her eyes then traveled up to the mutant that the arrow had come from.
"That will be quite enough of that,"
“Ok. I stand corrected. He’s the bird brain. You’re the mouse.” Sara said pulling Evelyn back towards her by her neck and the collar of her shirt.
"Madam, I suggest you release the woman now or you will find that my next arrow will not miss its mark between your shoulder blades,"
“Yeah. Have fun with that thought.[/I”] She couldn’t say for sure what had gotten into her. She was just reacting to…. Ok maybe she could say so…. She was called a house cat. A HOUSE CAT!!!.
Sara pulled backwards quick enough that she hoped that the flying mutant would have trouble tracking her with the arrow. With a turn to put some power into her own movement, she through Evelyn at the flying mutant above them. Then moved to get closer to him by scaling a broken fire escape, lickity split. Her intentions were to get high enough to snatch him out of the air.
The winged mutant swore in his native language and loosed the arrow in the direction of the cat woman as he tucked his wings and dropped. Never tried to catch like this before, he thought to himself, pulling another arrow from the quiver as he moved his taloned feet into position to catch the blonde woman with his feet. Maybe, just maybe, it was occasionally useful to be able to hold things with one's feet.
Following the blonde's flight trajectory with his golden eyed gaze, while also watching the cat woman with his peripheral vision thanks to his mutation, Mariusz followed her flight path and then snagged her by a forearm when she got close enough.
Beating his wings hard to try and gain altitude he fired another arrow in the direction of the cat woman, who was now climbing a fire escape. "Give me your other arm, I need to balance your weight," he grunted, drawing and firing another arrow as he beat his wings to gain more altitude and the move away from the building that the cat woman was climbing as he drew and fired again. Truthfully, he was loathe to actually put one of the arrows into another sentient being, but he resolved to put the next arrow into the cat woman for sure if she tried to leap off of the fire escape at them.

Evelyn managed not to scream for the first few moments of the confrontation. Part of that may have been because the paw on her throat was cutting off the air and there was nothing to scream with, but she liked to think she was just keeping her head. Keeping her head, that was something she hoped she would do during the duration of this fight. The claws could very well cut her fragile skin and she tried not to concern herself with that too much.
[Second mutant, archer. Incoming fire.] The arrow zinged not too far from their heads, and her vision was getting blurry from lack of air. She thought she heard something about release the woman but it was hard to tell because a few moments later, Sara threw her.
She fricken THREW HER.
Still no air, not time to scream, then something had her by the arm and stopped gravity from turning her into a pancake. Her eyes glanced down, took one look at the ground, and the air was back in her lungs.
She screamed several profane words and clutched to the feet on the winged mutant.
"Give me your other arm."
She looked up at him with an expression of fear and couldn't get her hands to release their hold. She was like a cat clinging to a piece of fabric for---
One arrow after another followed Sara’s progress up the latter. One lodged it’s self into the wooden planter nearly all of the way through. The next in the brick and the brick again and again. He was a terrible aim but Sara suspected it would be better if he didn’t have a screaming Evelyn to hang onto who wasn’t managing to make things ‘balanced’ for him.
Maybe if Evelyn hadn’t of called her a house cat and Maybe if this bird brain would stop shooting arrows at her, she would have given up the chase, thrown her hands in the air, and given up. Did Evelyn really deserve all that for just calling Sara a house cat?... Oh yeah…. She really did call SARA and HOUSECAT! Yup. Backing down wasn’t going to cross Sara’s mind for at least another minute or two. She was still just a little upset.
Then one of the mutant pigeon’s arrows hit Sara in the upper leg and she fell against the metal grates of the fire escape steps. Getting hit by an arrow was different from getting hit with the bullet from a gun. Sara could definitely say that she liked it a lot worst as she stumbled up the metal steps for a flight. One hand pressed down against the open wound. An arrow definitely hurt more, or longer or…. Sara couldn’t really tell. Unlike the bullet of a gun, the shaft was still there, catching on metal bars, and continuing to rip the wound even while Sara’s mutation did it’s best to close. The shaft, and it’s tip would have to go, and for a moment, Sara ducked inside the broken edges of a window. Just inside an abandoned apartment.
She’d started healing the arrow inside her leg already again, when her left hand gripped the arrow’s shaft, and she pulled it straight out. Cursing and ginding her teeth because of the sharp pain. A second later she reappeared in the window. Sara chucked the arrow, that flipped tip over shaft and over again and again, at Talon’s head. “You big flying chicken!”
Arrows, happily, weren't meant to travel through the air on an end-over-end trajectory. So, even though the arrow was headed straight for him it wasn't coming overly fast. Reacting, his hand shot out and grabbed the tumbling projectile from the air. Fitting it to the bowstring he drew and fired his arrow that the cat woman had flung at him back at her. Always conserve arrows, when possible, he thought to himself, wings still beating to gain altitude and back further away from the cat woman. Truthfully, he wasn't looking for a big confrontation with her and was more concerned with getting away since he truly didn't want to severely injure or kill the cat thing unless it was completely necessary.
Just then Evelyn gave a sharp jerk and the Czech man lost several feet in altitude. The blonde woman was keeping her death grip on his leg which made escape much more difficult. Continuing to blind fire arrows he looked down at the woman in his talons and turned his focus to arranging her in a more easily transportable way.
Lifting Evelyn using the leg she was already holding on to he got her into a position where he could grab her other arm with his free foot. Once he had secured her second arm with his taloned foot he looked down at her, still blind firing arrows in the direction of the cat woman. "I have you, grab my other leg with your other hand there so we can get out of here faster," he said, using his foot to tug as gently as possible at the offending hand.
