The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Yeah, I just fainted," Ty snapped. "It's no big deal. I just wear gloves--even if I have to get latex. It was the pocket-watch that got me, anyway..." Inside, Ty wondered how that would work. His regular gloves would get in the way. And latex....well latex could mean that his power would kick in every time he put on a new pair...
Ugh...between his shin and his head, he wasn't in the best of moods. "And if you try mouth to mouth..." he stopped when they entered the alley, and he stayed quiet, biting his lip. The married couple thing kind of stung, though he just leaned himself against the wall.
Finally, he broke the silence. "Hey, either of you happen to have an aspirin?" he asked, rubbing his head.
They had managed to put some distance behind them when he heard startled voices from afar. He ignored them, thinking the owners of the stolen wallets had noticed their missing valuables and as they headed out of the park, he tried to look casual about it, but couldn't avoid having a bit of a jump in his step.
Once outside, he gave a mental command to his dogs to follow and if anyone tried to catch them, then run away as fast as they could.
Ty had kept on giving explanations and rationalizations but once in the alley, Syn regained her composure and delivered a blow to their male ego. While he tried to keep quiet, it was pretty difficult. Ty asked if any of them had aspirin.
"Nope. Let's go steal some from the pharmacy!"
It was immature and juvenile to keep on pricking on the wound, but the boy simply wasn't used to breaking laws so blatantly. They were the adults. They were supposed to set the example and such. Ty may have had his reasons in the end and it didn't take Miles that much effort to imagine a person who couldn't do any sort of manual labor without fainting and getting dizzying headaches, being fired from pretty much any job. Understanding this made him look at it from a different perspective, but he still felt it was wrong. His frown however, was starting to evaporate.
"Sorry" he apologized eventually, this time to Ty. "I can't judge you if I've never been through what you've been through, but you're lucky Syn still wanted to drag you along after pulling off a felony like that!"
The continued squabbling from Miles and Ty was getting on Syn’s nerve. Thoughts of making them kiss and make up popped instantly into her mind. Only…she wasn’t exactly sure what would happen if they did. It was still oohh soo tempting.
“Are you two children done yet?” She looked at them both in a scowling manner. Her tone still calm but a sense of sternness had begun to fill in. It was time they realized their mistakes.
Turning to Ty first she started. “With your lack of control over your talent do you really think that was the best time to start stealing? You said yourself that you’re still learning. That was not the time to practice. What if the situation was more dangerous? With you passing out you could’ve easily had been killed or captured. You need to take it slow when learning about your ability. Start smaller and is less danger.”
Now her focused moved to Miles. “As for you. You need to stop blaming others before taking responsibility for your own actions. Do you realize you left me there with those armed men? I don’t have any control over your dogs as they sure would’ve come in handy. Luckily I managed to talk them into another topic so I could leave.”

"Actually, I think I can afford to do it the legal way now," Ty replied with a sly, sort of teasing grin. "I can't help it," he said, hanging his head. "I don't expect anyone's pity, but it's what I know. Dance with who brung me, right?"
He nodded at Syn when she addressed him. "I understand. I've never had it knock me out before. Now that I've had this experience, I can use it to be more careful next time. It was a dumb mistake; one I don't plan on making again."
When she turned to Miles, Ty stopped paying attention. He started figuring up his spoils, muttering to himself. "I can get maybe 20 for the watch...." Then he opened the first wallet. Ten bucks and...hello a few single packs of Bayer aspirin. "Heh...thank you, Asian with heart trouble," he whispered, taking the pills out and swallowing them by themselves.
Putting the first back in his pocket, his second wallet turned up empty. Just a bunch of credit/debit cards and pictures of grand-children. Boring. Pocketing that, he opened the last. Score! A stack 20's and like...3 condoms. Slipping the spoils into his jacket pocket, he put the wallets in his inside pocket to dispose of later.
The aspirin--at least he pretended it was just the aspirin--was stowed away in his own wallet. Then, he politely relaxed against the wall as Syn finished scolding Miles.
Miles felt the sternness behind her voice and he lowered his gaze to look at the floor. Syn was not his mother or aunt or even older sister but he respected the woman and appreciated everything she had done for him. Whatever she told them would be well deserved, since it was clear a scolding was headed their way.
She addressed Ty first and while he seemed to care for what she had to say, he had learned the wrong lesson. The experience wasn't suppossed to teach him to be more careful when he stole from now on, but to not steal again! Miles felt tempted to butt in and interrupt the grown ups talking but she soon turned her attention on him.
She was so right it was downright embarrassing. He had completely failed her and it was truly lucky she was still standing before him. Miles raised his eyes back to meet hers, to apologize one more time, for what he had done was unforgiveab....
TY WAS RUMMAGING THROUGH HIS LOOT!
Miles eyes went wide but he kept his mouth shut. He actually raised his hand a little and pointed at him with his finger, like when children go Look, mommy, look! He's making faces at me while you scold me! The neeeeerve! He wasn't even paying attention, he had already been reprimanded, but was that the attitude of someone who actually cared? He was now leaning so relaxed against a wall. Come on, it was only a matter of time before something like this or worse happened again.
As they stood there, the sound of sirens began to make themselves heard by the end of the street. He couldn't tell if it was an ambulance or the police, but he instinctively tried to duck behind one of the blue dumpsters. Oh man! What had Ty gotten them into? Miles wasn't going to go to jail because of Ty! Because if Ty hadn't...
At that very moment, two black shapes darted at high speed right out of the park and ran straight for them, their red eyes glowing in creepy fashion, not caring at all for the cars driving through the street they were crossing. A car screeched and skidded to a halt, miraculously avoiding hitting the dogs, but the one behind it struck it and smashed its trunk. A third car failed to brake in time, skidded and turned, hitting the second car with it's side. By the time the dogs reached their master, four cars had piled up, a traffic jam was brewing and an ambulance AND a police car were visible at the end of the street.
Ty’s reply to her wasn’t all that convincing. She hoped he wouldn’t make a dumb mistake like that again, but he didn’t appear to be too concerned with it. “I don’t really think you’re grasping the point Ty. If you are unable to control how you react when your talent is used, then you’re going to black out again, or probably get caught or worse. You have to learn to control it or it will forever control you.”
Back to Miles. He showed obvious signs of his guilt so she knew her point had been taken by him. But pointing fingers? He really was a child.
She didn’t have time to say anything more as a whole new commotion had started up. First sirens…most likely for the armed men, then cars crashing because of Miles’ dogs followed by more sirens. All Syn could do was look to Miles and tilt her head as if to say ‘Really’.
The other end of the alley was still open to them so Syn immediately began heading that way. “Let’s go!”

Ty gave a dry chuckle as he saw Miles pointing fingers at him. It's like grade school all over again.
Turning back to Syn, he spoke calmly and as respectably as possible. "Alright. Maybe I don't fully grasp things yet. Maybe I don't fully think things through and just do what comes natural. I need to learn to control this so it doesn't bite me in the rear again." Then he muttered, "Or kick me in the shin."
Then, he heard the all too familiar sound of sirens. "Though now doesn't seem like the time or the place for me to practice."
"Let's go!"
To Ty, that was like the sound of a starter pistol. Thankfully the aspirin had kicked in, because Ty pushed himself off of the wall and began sprinting full-speed down the alley. Vaulting over a pile of trash, he didn't miss much of a step as he landed, the mouth of the alley growing closer.
It'd been far too long since Ty'd had an adrenaline rush like this. It was sort of...invigorating. "I know this area," he called to Syn and Miles. "There's an abandoned apartment building not far from here. It'd be a good place to hang until the heat goes down." With that, he kept running, picking up speed again as he headed towards his suggested hideout and waiting for any feedback.
Syn's look made him feel like, again, he was letting her down. But what could he do about it? He just gave orders to his dogs and they obeyed the best way they saw fit, it was pretty difficult to hand those orders out and think of every possible outcome beforehand.
She didn't stop to think matters through though, immediately urging them to run the moment she heard the sirens. Ty seemed to resent Miles kick, but at least he also agreed he needed to learn to control his mutation before endangering himself again so foolishly. The boy followed the two adults without question, ordering his dogs to follow them in turn. If anyone saw them running, it would seem like they were running FROM the dogs instead of with them and hopefully that would make them look less suspicious of anything.
Miles was quick of feet but that didn't mean his stride was long, although seeing Ty run away so easily, jumping over trash piles like a pro, made his proud, competitive side kick in. He pushed his legs to the limit (which wasn't that high to begin with) and tried to keep up, but the pickpocket was indeed faster than him.
As he was running, a thought just started to creep through the back of his mind, the sort that happens when your body is busy doing physical work but your mind is free to do whatever.
Why an ambulance?
He distinctly remembered seeing one at the end of the street. Cops were to be expected, but paramedics? Only a bunch of wallets had been stolen. Maybe the owner of the watch loved it so deeply he'd had a cardiac arrest when he realized he had lost it?
"I don't think we can be choosy!" he snapped back when Ty suggested an abandoned building to hide in. They didn't really have the time to discuss anything, but Miles wondered when was the last time Ty had seen this building.
In New York, abandoned areas didn't stay abandoned for long.
Taking off down the alley Ty mentioned knowing a place they could hide. “That would be helpful.” Syn replied. She kept up with the newcomer while checking back on Miles every so often to make sure they didn’t lose him. She also spotted the dogs following them. Good! All together now.

Ty nodded, turning onto another alley, making sure he wasn't losing anyone. At the end of this, there was an old apartment building. The windows were boarded and there was a 'condemned' sign on the door.
"Well...this is it. Just like I remember," Ty murmured as he opened the door with a creak. Staying on the first floor--for obvious reasons, he walked to a door marked 7A, pulled out his ID, and used it to break in.
The room was furnished, though the furniture looked old and worn out, and like no one had been there in ages. "Yep....it's seen better days, but...this is it. Me and some friends used to hang here when I was really heavy into urban exploration. It ain't much now, but it'll have to do for awhile." He plopped on the couch, leaving a love seat, a recliner, and a small cot open. On a dresser against the wall was an old TV, and the window looking out was broken from the inside.
They found their way into a condemned building Ty knew and had actually spent time in at some point in his life with old friends. He went and did one of those 'thievy' things to open a door and Miles wondered if besides pickpocketry, the guy was also skilled in breaking and entering or grand larceny. The boy was worried about hanging out with an actual thief, but in the end, he was also glad they could find a place to hide in. Stolen wallets might be a bad thing to do, but causing a car crash and running away from it all was probably worse. The only innocent among them was Syn and even though they had dragged her into this, she was still willing to cover their asses.
Ty dropped on a couch, lifting a cloud of old dust from it and Miles headed for the recliner, leaving the love seat for Syn. He was panting from the excercise but as soon as he could catch a breath, he shared his worries with his two companions.
"Did you guys notice there was an ambulance headed to the park even before the pile up? That was odd. I figure cops was all right, but an ambulance? Someone must have been hurt, maybe even suffered a heart attack or even died" he said, looking down at the floor and shaking his head.
He didn't want Ty to think he was trying to make him feel responsible for it (again), so he continued talking and expressing his real worry.
"It's a good thing we left. Just like you get your headaches after using your mutation or can even pass out, mine has its drawbacks. I can't handle being near the dead, specially if I'm in an emotional state. I... let's just say I turn into something really, really nasty and I'm glad you guys didn't get to see me that way. I'm quite terrified of it and just like you have to learn to control your mutation Ty, I have to learn to control mine."
He had told very few people about this aspect of his mutant powers. In fact, he had successfully avoided turning into his dark mode since he got to New York, thinking that keeping it a secret was the best way to avoid anyone with bad intentions to exploit it. But what if he turned while amongst friends or allies? He'd be making them a serious disservice if they found out too late that the kid they've been hanging out with could turn into something completely unexpected with a penchant to transforming the dead into slaves.
"I don't think I would have turned into it back at the park, but I think it's prudent to warn you that it can happen."
Following Ty to the condemned apartment building Syn looked back to make sure no one had followed them before entering. Once in side she raised an eyebrow at the place. As Ty said…it really wasn’t much, but it was going to have to do for now.
Walking over to the love seat Syn patted it a bit to knock off some of the dust while letting out a couple coughs before sitting sideways and stretching her legs out. They could relax here while events calmed down at the park. When the air around her cleared enough the goth princess took a deep relaxing breath.
Syn chose to ignore Miles comment about the ambulance and instead focus on his details regarding his mutation. Has to stay away from the dead huh? How interesting! “Aww you didn’t want to give us a show Miles?” She commented in a somewhat playful tone.

Ty relaxed on the couch, despite the fact that a spring was poking him in the backside. Just like I remember it.... "No, I didn't notice. I was too busy passing out and running the other way," Ty said. "And I've made a habit of not constantly looking back. Slows ya down."
You would not have enjoyed my childhood, Ty thought as Miles spoke. "Thanks for the warning."
Ty chuckled at Syn, then looked at Miles before speaking in a calm yet serious tone. "Hey, Miles. I know you probably think I'm a scumbag right now. Maybe I deserved the kick in the shin. Yeah, we just met, but I really ain't that bad a guy. Something I've learned over the years: there's no real good guys and bad guys out there, like the comic books. Inside every one of us is a measure of good and evil. Some more than others." He paused, thinking of how to say this next bit.
"See, who you like and dislike is up to you. But I'm gonna let you in on something. You can't let one dirty deed or habit someone does--especially a stranger--affect your entire outlook. Otherwise it won't be long before you don't like anyone." Propping his hands behind his head, he gave a yawn.
"For all you know, that charismatic, clean businessman who gives to charities could be the wife-beater, child abuser, or murderer you talked about earlier. And that guy who flipped at the cashier at the store could be an irritated dad just wanting to see the kid he hasn't seen in ages. Or the pickpocket who steals wallets may have a soft spot for women and children. But that's all I gotta say on that subject. Bygones being bygones, forgive and forget, and all that happy bullcrap." He flashed a grin.
She was playing with him, that was for sure, but Miles took this subject very seriously. The very suggestion that he didn't want to show off, like it was a trick or just a bit of mischief, made him give off this rounded eyes and mouth 'You don't play with that sort of thing!' expression.
" Oh no! Never!" he said showing her both of his palms as if trying to stop her words from ever becoming a reality. "That's how these two ended up the way they are. Dead one moment, monsters the next" he added, tilting his head towards his dogs. "Not interested in pulling it off ever again, but my interests... change, when I turn."
Ty then shared his views on people and morals. Miles couldn't deny he agreed with some of the things he said, but on others he simply had a different opinion.
"You did deserve that kick and I don't think you're a scumbag" he replied, trying to explain to Ty what he really thought of him. "I do think you're a thief, though."
Miles leaned back on the recliner, getting his jacket dirty with old dust and cobwebs, not caring in the least as he gestured with his hands and painted the picture for them.
"A good thief, a bad thief, a thief stealing from the poor or candy from children, a thief who steals from the rich and corrupt, a thief who steals for personal gain or the one who does so to support his family... in the end, they're all thieves and it doesn't matter the reason, they're all stealing and that's a crime. Bygones be bygones? Forgive and forget? It's not so easy when money or property you worked hard to get is stolen. If they catch you, you're still going to jail, and it won't be for being good, or evil or a scumbag. It will be for being a thief."
It was sad that the place was abandoned and the kitchen likely had no food, these sorts of arguments went well over something to snack from.
"I'm not worried about you being good, bad, an angel or a devil. You decide what you want to be and I decide what I want to be and there's nothing either of us can do to stop the other. What I'm worried about is getting caught with you and that's something I CAN try to stop."
In a bit of a different manner than before the boys decided to express their personal views. Instead of bickering each one expressed valid points…from their perspective. Ty gave some good situations. Syn nodded as she had seen some similar situations even though she didn’t know the full details the couple she did watch matched what he was saying.
Unfortunately he did hit on a key that Syn held personal. His comment about not letting one dirty deed affect ones outlook. Truth be known, the goth princess held on to the opposite of his statement, and she held it against humans and Adapteds. The things they had done to her and to others of her kind she hated them for it and wouldn’t lose any sleep if both disappeared off the face of the Earth.
She was drawn back into the conversation as Miles told more about his talent. Syn quickly put things together in her head. Miles had another form in which he could turn the dead into thralls that he could control and bond with. The boy was becoming more and more intriguing as he spoke. Images of having him create an army of thralls to serve and protect them swirled in her head. Oh the possibilities.
