The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"I'm Miles" he replied, after Ty had told him of his first experience dealing with his mutant gene. It had been painful, that was for sure, but it didn't sound overly traumatic. It was good to know some people had it easy their first time.
Miles could totally think of a million ways a mutation like Ty's could get him in trouble. He had a tactical thinking mind and always liked looking at several possibilities instead of doing things by instinct or picking the first choice.
"You could definitely learn too much by touching the wrong thing" he said, thinking of the possibilities. "If a branch gave you a headache, imagine what touching the pyramids in Egypt or any thousand year old rock could do? Then again, looking at the history of an old rock must be pretty boring, but the headache could be massive or even cause an aneurysm or something like that. And what about accidentally touching some random guy's clothes in the bus or something like that? Wife beaters, cheaters, pedophiles, mass murderers, stuff you'd never want to know from people, all there for you to decide what you're going to do about it. Call the cops? What are you going to tell them? Let them go? Will your conscience let you?"
He let that sink in for a bit before continuing.
"It's like I said earlier. Mutation is not an easy thing to deal with."

"Nice to meet ya." Ty flinched a bit at the effects touching a simple rock could have on him. "Yeah...may very well knock me out or something, man..." He gave a nod. "I sort of thought of that. Walk into a crime scene, touch the murder weapon, and know not only what happened on the scene, but every other thing that knife has done."
He sat up, cross-legged, resting his elbows on his thighs and his chin on his palms, saddened by the questions as he thought about them. "Sadly....probably not a thing. I'm not sure what I COULD do about something like that. I mean....I want to do the right thing...but there's such a blur between right and wrong. And if I do find it...what am I going to do about it? I can't do anything in a fight." He let out a deep, long sigh.
"They say knowledge is power. Maybe power is overrated."
Touching a knife and knowing everything it had done. Miles wasn't sure if he'd want to live with that sort of knowledge and responsibility on his shoulders. While he usually whined and moaned about the hand his mutation had dealt him, other people's mutations had their own bag of problems. They were never a bowl of cherries.
>>"They say knowledge is power. Maybe power is overrated."
This one got him thinking. Knowledge was just information and if you didn't know what to do with it, you wouldn't get much power out of it. He straightened his back and raised a finger, as if he were saying something important.
"Knowledge is power... with wisdom behind it. Otherwise, it can get your ass kicked."
Speaking of getting asses kicked, Ty pretty much said he was no good in a fight. That could be a serious hassle in his life ahead.
"I'm no good in a fight either, but they are" he said, waving casually at his dogs. "I go with them pretty much anywhere they're allowed. I'd rather people know or suspect I'm a mutant and still keep their distance, than discover it somehow without my dogs watching my back. You however... you're pretty much screwed. If a mutant hater or something pops up and wants something with you, what are you gonna do? Fear my POWAH miscreant! Your shirt was sewn in Taiwan! Now excuse me while I take some aspirin!"
Miles chuckled as he finished that sentence but then wondered if Ty was aware that there were places he could go to, that were very mutant friendly, where they could help him train or study or just... live. He remembered the first day he was all alone and lost in New York, trying to find somewhere he could stay and eat, and voila... Syn appeared like an angel. A punk rocker sort of angel, but an angel nevertheless.
"If you need a place to stay or somewhere where you'll find people who can understand you, I can point the way..."
Even though the temperature was cooling off as the days passed Syn still found the time to go for walks occasionally. She just had to dress a little warmer for the venture. Picking a new hoody and a pair of pants to go with it the goth princess headed out.
Going different routes each time she’d go for a walk kept things from getting boring. She had seen some people go the same way every time and she just couldn’t imagine doing that. She liked variety and most times found it no matter if it was a new place to eat or shop or even just seeing new people. Truth be told that was what she liked the most. Seeing new people interacting or avoiding other people. She loved watching their body language if she couldn’t hear their voices. There were just so many ways to tell things about others.
Passing by a small park it was almost instantaneous to tell that Miles and his dogs were also getting some time outside of Sanctuary. She hadn’t seen him much after she initially brought him to Sanctuary. Then again she had been busy and she was sure he was too. In fact it looked like he was currently busy talking to a slightly older looking male. This led to her course altering in their direction just in time to hear Miles mention something regarding a place to stay.
“Well hello again Miles dear. Nice to see you and your pets out and about. Who’s your new friend?” Syn smiled sweetly looking to both boys.

"Knowledge, wisdom, power...I don't know what it all means," Ty tried to explain. "Though I think you're right. At this rate, pharmacies are going to love me, what with having to buy extra-strength aspirin in bulk." He chuckled, actually somewhat surprised at how comfortable he was joking at what he just moments ago though was driving him insane.
Or maybe it was, and he was learning to accept it. Hey at least the headache wore off. "I've got a place to stay, not far from here. Though people who understand what I'm going through would be nice. I mean, I love the old lady and all, she gave me a roof over my head and everything I need, but I think she just felt sorry for me, heh."
Ty wasn't really paying attention to others, so it startled him when he heard another voice. Brushing his hair aside, he stood to his feet and held out his hand. "Ty. Ty Fisher."
He hadn't bumped into Syn in a while since he moved in, with school keeping him out of Sanctuary a good chunk of the time and that other time... didn't count, since it was a dream and he was in a cage, failing at enticing women with his mojo. He pretended it didn't happen... for his sake.
"Syn!" he said, boasting a friendly smile and getting up as well. Ty was quick to introduce himself, but Miles went into filling-the-gaps mode.
"I just met Ty a few minutes ago after throwing a stick to his head and he's... uhm..." he paused, as he didn't know how many people could overhear them and he wasn't too fond of spouting their mutanthood out loud. "...He's 'one of us'".
Miles gave her an exaggerated wink. She was a smart girl who could clearly understand what he meant. He then addressed Ty.
"Syn here was my first. I mean... HRMpph!" he cleared his throat. "The first 'one of us' I've ever met. She gave me shelter and food when I needed it most and I haven't seen Syn since... singing singles in Singh Singh" he joked.
He turned back to Syn.
"Good to see you're doing okay! What, no skulls on your clothes? I'm disappoint! And the pants! I bet you have nice legs and I never get to see 'em!"
She listened to both of them speak. The new acquaintance was commenting on knowledge, wisdom and power. It must’ve been from a topic the two males had been discussing prior to her arrival, but it was a subject she herself knows rather well. Syn noted the slight twitch in the blonde haired boy’s posture when she spoke up. Guess he was deep in thought.
Smiling again to Miles as his enthusiastic greeting towards her seemed to of caught him off guard as well. A reaction she never got tired of seeing from others. The well practiced smile remained while Miles hinted oh so subtlety towards Ty being more than a normal human. This was acknowledged with a slight nod.
Directing herself back to the man named Ty, Syn gave a genuine smile and a nod as her hands remained in her hoody pockets. “No disrespect Ty. It’s just cold out. As Miles here exclaimed my name is Syn, and it’s true that I was able to help him out as I’ve done the same for many others. I’m happy to hear that you have a place to stay and you aren’t left out on the streets. You’re still more than welcome to come visit us at Sanctuary. I think you’ll find it quite interesting.”
Looking back to Miles in regards to his comment on her clothes Syn shook her head and laughed to herself. “I don’t always have skulls on my clothes, and as I just stated to Ty it’s cold so I’m wearing pants. Besides, I think you’re a bit too young to be dreaming of a lady’s legs aren’t you?” She shot him a look with a raised eyebrow.

Ty gave a hearty laugh at Mile's comment, only shaking his head. That was too funny...
At Syn's reason to refusing the handshake, he chuckled, withdrawing his hand. "Yeah, I understand; no offense taken. In fact if they weren't....way over there...I'd get my gloves. But I'll get 'em later." He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket. "Yeah, if it wasn't for an old lady's pity, I probably would still be on the streets. Though I might come check it out, anyway. It'd do me good to be around other..." he paused. "Others like me."
At Syn's comment about her legs, he gave another quiet chuckle. Maybe he's not, but I am... He smiled, suddenly cursing the weather for being so blinking cold.
Just like she had done with him a bunch of months ago, Syn offered the comforts of Sanctuary to Ty but he told her he was staying with an old lady. Miles was about to promote the benefits of Sanctuary, from a teenager's perspective at least, over those from living at some old lady's house when Syn snapped back at him for his remarks on her clothes.
He blushed a soft pink at first over his cheeks and nose but it soon turned redder across his entire face. He had an impish smile and his head was sinking into his shoulders as he brought his arms tight to his body.
"Yes, I'm young" he admitted, scraping the ground with one foot, a clear signal that he was a tad embarrassed. "But it doesn't mean I can't dream, does it?"
Miles zipped up his jacket as he switched into propaganda mode for Sanctuary.
"You won't regret it if you visit! In fact, you won't want to leave! It's more like a hotel than a shelter, there's a pool for warmer days and a rec room with pool tables and games and there's rooms you don't have to pay for and a library and training rooms and... peers all over the place so you won't feel like you stand out at all. You'll thank me for introducing you to Syn. You'll thank her for letting you into Sanctuary. In fact, I bet that's what your name stands for, right? Thank You?
The boy then pointed his finger jokingly at Syn.
"I should get a comission out of this if he decides to drop by!" he said. "You should see what he can do. Anything he touches holds no secrets for him."
“Well Ty, if you ever decide you don’t want to live with an elderly lady who probably doesn’t understand you you’re more than welcome to come stay with us. As Miles mentioned we have plenty of amenities like the ones he stated and more. I also think it would do you some good to be around others like us.”
Gesturing to the younger boy Syn continued. “Miles here felt much the way you do now until I showed him a whole new world where he could feel more comfortable and less afraid of what others think. You really should come by some time.” The goth princess smiled in a welcoming manner.
“My dearest Miles.” Syn tilted her head slightly. “There is no commission for helping out others like us. We do it so they can feel safe and have a place to be themselves.” Her expression changed slightly to one of warning. “While it’s fine to dream…one should remember and reflect on that dream as not all dreams are pleasant.” She then lowered her voice a bit. “You should also keep in mind that not everyone wants their talents broadcast to just anyone. You know all about that so you might want to apologize.”
Straightening her posture Syn glanced around the area. The park didn’t have many people occupying it, most likely attributed to the weather. “So! What are you boys up to today?”

Ty nodded at Syn's invitation to stay at the Sanctuary. "Yeah, I think I'm gonna take you up on that one. I mean, as nice as she is and all, I think I could benefit more with peers, and those who are more...like me at that. And up until talking to Miles, I was afraid I was just losing my mind." He gave a dry laugh, looking from one mutant to the other.
"Oh, it's cool," Ty replied. "I'm actually more comfortable knowing I'll be accepted. Though I can't exactly show off at a whim," he said quietly. "I mean, I can't control it. Sometimes I go all day without anything, and others, I've seen maybe...three in one day, more spread out. It's just...random. Though I admit it would prove more useful if I could control it."
Ty shrugged. "I wasn't really up to much of nothin'. Just, you know, thinkin' about stuff, asking questions I couldn't answer." He chuckled. "Then an answer or two sort of fell out of the sky." He chuckled, lightly nudging Miles.
"Ah, you know I'm kidding" he said, regarding his commision jab but as soon as she started talking about dreams, his smile turned into a nervous one that had more 'whoops!' than 'haha!' into it.
She remembered, didn't she? The time they met that 'didn't count'? That was not a pleasant dream, despite the half naked women, and she made it a point that he remembered, very subtly, without scolding but without kidding either, but poignant and very Syn like. She'd always had a way with words.
"I'm sorry" he mumbled immediately after Syn asked for an apology. He knew Ty wasn't mad about it but she had a point. Miles himself wanted to keep the undeath of his canines a secret and she agreed to keep it for him, even though he had spilled the beans to more than one person by now. Who gave him the right to go about telling everyone of Ty's mutation? He wasn't sure if Ty realized it, but his ability was the kind of thing that the wrong sort of people could find interesting. He could figure out any password from any keyboard or safe. A brush with a guard's shirt could tell him patrol routes, shift times, security secrets. Touch a bag of drugs and immediately know where the lab is, who makes it, who sells it. The possibilities were huge for good or bad and Ty's best protection was his anonymity.
Lucky for him, the guy seemed to be taking it in stride and his mutation didn't always work. He nudged at Miles for providing answers that fell from the sky. This at least, Miles was happy for.
"I threw a stick at his head. I was trying to practice at bossing my dogs around and having them fetch a stick but I kinda, sorta messed up my throw. He touched the stick and he knew I had thrown it" he said, now whispering to keep it between them and hoping she'd approve. "And he's just beginning to use it, Syn. Imagine the possibilities when he gets better at it."
“Ah wonderful! You’re making the right decision for yourself Ty. We have plenty of people who could help you understand things better. Even though we’re all different we still have commonalities.” A happy nod and another smile were directed to Ty. “Would you like to go to Sanctuary today?”
Syn kept a mental note of the comments between Miles and Ty regarding the newcomer’s talent. From what they said she gathered that he could see mental images or maybe even feel things from items he comes into contact with. With him just now discovering this and not having much control Syn knew she could help mold him and guide him to use his talent more effectively. Might even be possible to help him to turn it off or on whenever he wanted with practice and time. As Miles pointed out, the information Ty could gather could be very important indeed.
Looking to Miles it was apparent that her subtle warning got through to the boy. She didn’t want him running away by any means. No, this was more of a watch your step type warning. With his acknowledgement and apology to Ty she gave the youngster a friendly bump with her arm to lighten the mood.
“I’m guessing you didn’t have any luck with your experiment then. Care to try your luck now that you don’t have someone to hit within your throwing range Miles dear?” A soft giggle emitted from Syn.

Ty gave a nod. "Yeah, I think I'd like to swing by and check it out first. It'd probably be a better idea than just packing what crap I have without much of an idea. It's cool, Miles. No offense taken. I guess what I can do is just interesting. Though I could do without the headaches after," he said with a light chuckle.
Looking at both of them, his tone became more sincere and appreciative. "Thanks; I have no idea what I would have done if I hadn't run into you guys."
He turned around, his icy blue eyes looking to the spot from which he'd originally come from. Turning around, he ran over to where his thin black gloves lay, exactly where he'd pulled them off. Moments later, he strolled back to the other two, wearing them. They obviously weren't very warm, but warmth wasn't exactly their purpose.
"Until I get more of a hang of things, I thought it'd be a good idea to snag these," he said with a smile, showing off a gloved hand. Ty chuckled as he caught Syn's comment about no one being in throwing range.
"Just make sure I'm standing a fair distance behind you before you throw," he joked.
Syn and Ty seem interested in watching Miles practice with his dogs and the teenager found it fair and fun to do so. Ty had been forthcoming regarding his mutation and all Miles had let known about his was that he had two creepy looking dogs. While he was not interested in letting Ty know the dog's origins, he did feel like showing off a little and explaining some of the things he could do with them.
"All right, watch this" he said as he leaned back a little while raising the stick.
Now where to throw it?
The park didn't have that many people near where they were standing, but there was a small hill to their side that didn't let them see what was behind it and where the park continued it's expanse. The odds of hitting someone on the head twice were too high, specially now that it was getting a tad cold, and throwing the stick somewhere he couldn't see was just the sort of situation he was looking for.
"Not only can I give orders to my dogs and they will follow them to the letter, but!..." he said, trying not to raise his voice too much so only Ty and Syn could hear him and still make it sound like what he was saying was exciting. "I can hook my senses to theirs and see, hear or smell what they do. Like so."
He threw the stick over the hill as far as he could, then turned to order his dogs.
"You two, find the stick and one of you must bring it to me."
The dogs ran off and quickly swerved behind the hill to fulfill his orders.
"See, that was a bit of a trick order", he explained. "I wanted to test how they follow my orders and see what sort of decisions they make. Tinaker is faster so he should get to the stick first, but Astor is dominant and I want to see if they fight over it or if Astor simply thinks that Tinaker bringing the stick fulfills the order and just follows him back. Also..." he said, now closing his eyes. "I can get video of the whole thing and tell you how it goes."
Miles vision changed to those of his dogs. He had a smile in his face that instantly evaporated as soon as he noticed what was going on.
"Oh, sh*t!"
------
The two of them had met near this very tree two years ago. He was 'playing' with a sword that day, or at least that was the way she'd seen it. She had been wearing a flower on her auburn hair that day and that's what caught his eye. They talked, they laughed and they found out they had so much in common. Their passion for natural things and the outdoors. The feeling of being out of place and time. The smell of old books and the way old tales made their imaginations fly. And most of all, their unbridled love for all things XIV century.
Their wedding was taking place just as she had planned, despite the cold and nothing was going the ruin her perfect day. The hundred chairs had not been enough to fit all the guests but some wondered if it was intentional, to make the event seem like it was packed. There were torches at the side of the aisle, that kept the place lit and warm and fit the historic theme.
That's right, it was a medieval themed wedding.
The groom was the veritable depiction of Prince Charming, all dressed in white with golden swirls and adornments all over his clothes and a shiny red cloak with a golden lion embroidered in it that made him look very Lannister. The Bride's dress was a thing to behold with a tail three times it's length. The guests were regally dressed in medieval attire, and those who had made it there wearing suits or a tuxedo had been given cloaks that not only kept them warm, but hid their modern clothes and made them look historically accurate. Kids were dressed as pages and there were a couple of men dressed in full armor, swords and all. The women showed off all sorts of jewelry, even if some had been obviously made with Twentieth century equipment and those who had had boob jobs done loved their corsets and showing off the upper part of their bosoms.
Under the white arch adorned with greenery and white flowers, the priest was reciting his speech. He was in the middle of it, when a stick fell off the sky, right in between him and the bride and groom.
There were Ohhs! and Ahhs! and someone even muttered 'how inconsiderate!' but the bride just huffed and waved a hand, urging the priest to continue.
NOTHING was going to ruin her PERFECT day.
...Except two hellhounds that suddenly burst into the scene. Tinaker was the fastest, so he was indeed first, but the moment he pushed in between the bride and groom, Astor let out a loud, warning, deep and demonic bark that made everyone wonder if God approved of this marriage. Tinaker grabbed the stick and tried to swerve past the larger dog, but Astor blocked his way and clamped his teeth on the stick as well. The two dogs started pushing, pulling and fighting over the stick as people got up from their seats in a start, some tripping over their own cloaks. There was screaming, complaining and angry outbursts all around, demanding to find out who was responsible for this outrage!
Behind the hill, a nervous teenager had both hands in his mouth as he stood between his two friends.
"I think it would be best if we took off" he muttered.
