The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Something touching his face instantly shocked him awake, all his muscles tensing up at the sensation. What the hell was going on? His half asleep brain had a little trouble working out why there was someone brushing his hair back and leaning in for a kiss. Nearly jerking back, he finally figured it out as she gently brought her lips to his. Xavia, right. She'd come over hadn't she, explained her lack of contact for a couple of days and ended up needing a cry and a sleep. How long had they just been lying there cuddled up and ignoring the outside world? No way to tell without moving and as she nuzzled into him he wasn't going anywhere.
It was so strange that someone so strong like Xavia could look fragile from the outside. The more he got to know her the more she seemed like a person who hadn't let life break them completely. She'd suffered, horribly at times and she could still keep going. What a pair they made. To his friends, his colleagues he looked for all the world strong and confident and deep down he knew how brittle he was. The right push, hard enough would shatter him, make him a twitching wreck or turn him into a raging monster, screaming at the world. Frankly it was hard to know which was worse.
Right now though, he could be strong for her. In whatever way she needed. Instead of speaking and changing the unspoken words he just tightened his hug a bit, giving a little bit of reassurance through it and letting her know he was there for her.
Maybe being strong for her would make it true, maybe it wouldn't but time would tell.
She saw that glint in Raines eye as she considered it. She wouldn't be Raine if there wasn't some mischief going through her head from time to time, but she trusted her friend and let her carefully apply the lipstick as needed. Rolling her lips when needed, was that it? No bright red cat whiskers or anything? God her friends were the best.
"How could it be anything but perfect, you're the one who did it." Cait had always admired the younger womans' make-up skills. She definitely had the skills the Scot herself didn't. For her make-up was as simple as possible and it couldn't run.
Their cab ride was pretty quick and uneventful, which was probably a good thing but the fact that they were soon in front of the frat house was a little daunting. Maybe it was something about not actually being American but the whole frat and sorority thing had never made sense to her. Sure they had big parties but considering how old some of them were, and how much they were light-weights it seemed a bad mix to her.
Then again when it came to drinks she cheated. Having a natural advantage was a little unfair on the others.
No sooner were they inside, arm in arm then she was being bear hugged, by a bear sized man and she now had the best name for Raine. Ever. Blurting out, "Rainebow!? Please tell me why I've not heard this nickname before." It was so perfect.
Grabbing a simple beer as she was being introduced, it wouldn't be her first choice but it fit the whole theme she was going for. "Nice to meet you, Raine failed to mention she knew such a, tall man like yourself." Mind on the task lass, no time for actual flirting right now. That could come later. Maybe. "Oh and thank you. I'd say we come as a pair," she added with a playful wink, "but I don't think actual angels could handle that."
"Oooo, who's Matt then?" Sounded like prime teasing material right there. "Is this someone a person might have a little crush on hmmm?"
One minute he'd be standing up right, the next he was tumbling to the floor, pretty hard, and was on his back. Jesus that was fast, had Devon really managed to take his entire weight out by hitting his hand? That was embarrassing, but good to know.
"Fair play lad, you won that pretty convincingly. Mind letting me up now though? As much fun as it is to have you wrapped around me Xavia might get the wrong impression." Wait, did Devon know he was kind of maybe dating someone. Name Xavia. S---. "Not that there's any who should mind, or anything to that effect." Pausing slightly, "You're not going to let me live this down are you?"
Once he'd been released and bounced back up onto his feet, he was feeling pretty good, weirdly. Sure he was a little tired from the exertion but apparently the adrenaline he got from a fight was more than making up for it. "Nice fightin' there Devon, got me pretty good from the get go. Where do you think I went wrong?"
There was never shame in asking for advice when it came to this. Learning to fight would literally save his life, it already had to varying degrees after all and once you've had your a--- handed to you on a daily basis from a sweet little woman, pride went out the window too. Now he was trying to take everything in and fuse it with his power, make it his own and let it balance with his strengths and weaknesses. His power was strong, scary even in a fight but he lacked a vital bit of kit, a dependable, non-lethal take down.
"Good to hear, wouldn't want anyone getting hurt over my idiocy. Feel free to get hurt over your own though, that's fine by me." Which was only half a joke. Getting hurt for being stupid was one thing, nearly bleeding out was something else. God that had been a scary night. "Just try not to get shot mate, that's a little outside my pay grade at the moment."
"I'll only do what you're comfortable with, but there will be drinks. You're not getting away from that night without a bottle of true whiskey from the homeland." His own 21st he'd gone back home, had a great time with some of his old school mates and been given a very nice bottle of Scotch from his uncle. "But if you want some very pretty guys there willing to remove certain articles, I wouldn't be against it. Neither would most the others I imagine."
Smiling, he forgot sometimes how odd his speech was for people here. Even back home a fair few English people couldn't decipher it. "Bonnie means pretty lad, much like a certain blue skinned young fan n the dance floor." Derek was too much fun to mess with. "Just for reference, wee is small, eejits are idiots and sassanachs are the English."
"Oh you are on," standing up to match his friend. "Just don't get upset when this works and you have to flail on your own after a bit." Artair was pretty self assured about wingmanning. He could work that approachable foreigner vibe and get them very happy to meet a nice friend of his. "Come on then, and remember to smile. You'd be surprised how much that helps."

"Course, stay as long as you want, I've not got anywhere important to be today." He could skip training for a day, she needed him a lot more than he needed another set of bruises from sparring and frankly, a day off was on the cards. Lying down with her, making sure she was comfortable and happily resting against him, he just kept gently hugging her. She was knackered, the poor lass. This had really been tearing her up inside, for good reason but at least she wasn't worrying about him in all this now. Xavia needed to stay strong for her kids, he'd help sure but he wasn't entirely sure what was happening between them still. The most he could say is he would definitely be her friend, always.
When she changed out of her dress, he had to admit, he looked. She was still beautiful after all, even with the undeniable baby bump. Not what she was here for though and absolutely not what she needed right now. Artair did have to admit, it was pretty damn restful just lying there on the sofa with her, the quiet sound of her breathing and the soft fragrance of roses was doing a good job of putting him to sleep too. He held out though, at least as long as she was awake. As she drifted off his own eyes started to get heavy.
One thought did go through his head though, if that guy ever resurfaced, ever crawled out of the hole he clearly lived in, he wouldn't survive long. His friends thought he was a good man, he knew he wasn't. He'd more than willing do more than just kill someone who'd hurt his friends, his family. Xavia was in that category now.

"Glad to see I have free reign to smack you if need be. Always fun to have that permission," his voice light and joking. Not that he needed permission with most his friends, he usually had back and forth style friendships. A bit off putting here but back home that's just the norm.
A moment of confusion followed by sudden realisation, "Oh no, not Kendra the fox lad. She got hit pretty hard by one the of the guys in the fight, looked like she was limping a little." Kendra he knew had gotten hurt, badly but it wasn't his place to spill that. That and he really didn't want to remember that night at the moment.
"Oh you shouldn't have admitted you're turning 21. That's a big deal back home, the whole 'becoming a man' thing. There will be drinking, there will be awkward flirting and there will be fun, count on it." That, was going to be a riot. he was expecting some epic hangovers from that party. The kind that took two days to recover from.
He would regret that, so much. "So it's offical then. Well now I won't feel so bad introducing you to that very bonnie lad you've been eyeing up all this time." Yes he'd seen, he wasn't blind after all and the guy wasn't bad looking, he had the blue skin going for him. Blue was a good colour. "I'm sure he'd love to play a little game I like to call, 'Have you met Derek?' Might as get some practice in, you'll be playing that a lot if I drag you to the Isles."
Yeah, he kind of guessed she needed a good cry, she must have been pretty fried the past few days and worried and it just spilled out. It was probably for the best that someone was there for her when it happened, even if that someone was him. This was way outside his area of knowledge that instead of pretending and acting like he knew exactly what to say, he just kept up the gentle hug. When she did finally get some of the words out, Artair pretty much suspected as much, "It's OK lass, you don't need to say anymore, I understand." As much as he wished he knew who did this to her, knew exactly where to find the scum, those weren't the kinds of questions she needed anyone asking her, especially not him.
"You are Xavia, if we need to drag you kicking and screaming into being happy you'll get there." After a that she did sound a little better, getting it out had seemed to help her. He was glad he could help, in any small way. "And don't worry about those two, they're both pretty understanding so just talk to them. Derek's a good guy, if you sit down and have a cry with anyone, he's one of the best you could chose and Kendra's strong, stronger than she looks." She'd had her own trauma and come back, with a little bit of a push. "Just tell me if she want's to do something stupid so I can stop her."
Resting a hand on her shoulder as a simple comforting gesture, he sat quietly letting her dab at her eyes with the tissues. How had he come to these situations? First dragging Kendra out of her own dark little corner he was now making sure a woman, who'd suffered one of the worst possible moments a person can, was OK and offering a helping hand. He wasn't an emotional person, nor was he best suited to deal with his own emotional issues let alone someone else's, but here he was. "Bet you feel a wee bit better after that."
Yeah, from the text it sounded like she just wanted to talk, probably because of unexpected baby news. Tidying up the little bits of mess, he was glad he kept the place pretty clean, made it easy to keep presentable when a friend or loved one was dropping in. Or someone who needed a gentle talk and reassuring. They might not be entirely official at the moment but even if nothing had happened between them he was sit, at base her friend. It was the least he could to for her.
Letting her and getting a surprise hug. "Hey there lass, I'm guessing it's not been the best few days for you?" he asked gently, kissing her on the check when she eventually untangled herself from him. She didn't look great at all. While she sat down he quickly poured her a glass of water and set it down of the coffee table in front of her, before joining her on the sofa. Rather than push for anything, he just let her begin at her leisure, giving her a small smile of encouragement when she began. Artair was getting a little worried, had it really been that bad? What kind of news could shake her so much. Then she handed over the picture.
Twins. Yeah that would do it. One surprise baby was a shock, for any woman, but given Xavia's situation two seemed like the universe was playing some cruel joke. "OK, fair enough Xavia, I can see why this would be a bit of a shock to the system. But we're here for you, all of us. Derek and Kendra, your mother and yes, me. You don't have to worry about me freaking out about this, it doesn't change anything." Taking her hand comfortingly and look her in the eyes, "I can promise you, if something goes wrong in whatever this is between, it will have nothing to do with you being pregnant."
Then he just drew her into a gentle hug, quietly reassuring her and making sure she was OK. Sometimes that all a person needed when they were down, other times it's what helped them open up but this was all on her terms, he wasn't going to push her to say anything she was't happy to.

It was nice having her to talk too, even if it was through texts. There was no pressure, no complications with it and it was enjoyable, even if some days he could only managed a few words as a reply he tried to at least send her his best wishes on a morning, asking how she was, that kind of thing. His previous, very limited experiences with dating had proven that he was not a fan of being hounded, called every day and constantly needing to justify his more reserved way of contacting people. With Xavia it was easy, simple and relaxed.
When a couple days passed without a text he was genuinely worried. She didn't seem the type to just stop all contact and hope the other person got the message, no that was very distinctly his tactics. Well that and he got the impression she liked him. No idea why, couldn't be how well their first date had ended. As the text came in, he had a feeling he knew what was going on. She'd told him something about an ultrasound coming up, must have had the results back.
Of course, where do want to meet up? He knew that she'd been attacked by someone, had she found out if the child was his? God that wouldn't be easy to deal with and as much as he'd want to personally tear apart the waste of human skin that did it, he wasn't going to bring it up with her and constantly remind her of that horrible episode. No he'd just give her fond memories, be someone she could find comfort in. That was all he need to do.
"Look I'm not angry and I get where you're coming from but I'm a big boy, I can handle myself and protect her if need be. It's just a bit of an invasion of our privacy you know?" He wasn't sure where things stood at the moment but he did want to see her again and they were definitely going on another date. If that went well, who knows, he'd probably ask her if she wanted to make the relationship official. "And trust me, Xavia might be pregnant but if anyone threatened her she's at her most dangerous now. A mother will do anything to protect their kids."
Apparently Artair had a habit of scaring his friends on their first meeting, Kendra, Xavia and now him. Not a great pattern there. "As long as she's happy that's good, was worried she was badly hurt after that fight. Little girl has fire in her."
Right on the money, good. If Snow kept pushing for info about him and Xavia, he could always pull that out in return. "Bit out of the blue but I'm 21. Why the interest? Do I come across as older like?" He'd been told that from time to time but he'd just been forced to group up quicker than most people. "And what about you Snow?"
"I'll not push you into a situation you're not fine with but seriously if you want a wingman just shout. You'd be surprised how effective a charming accent is for breaking the tension." He'd gotten more than one uni friend a date with a fetching lass. "You be surprised where you might meet someone you'd end up dating." Like a Chinese restaurant, where you proceeded to shock someone into getting 2nd degree burns.

By now he was fairly sure that whatever there was petty them, it was worth exploring. They had fun, they were very compatible and frankly she was the most interesting woman he'd know, they could just lie and talk and laugh. It was new and fun and comfortable, in a way. Idly holding her hand as she relayed her stories about her students, he was glad they'd spent a lazy morning getting to know each other. Certainly helped sort his mind out on some topics. "Aye, I can understand that. Seeing a kid able to smile makes all the pain worth it. We need a place in the world like anyone else, to live and love and grow. Not much to want if you ask me." He was new to this fight, but his life was a battlefield from a young age. He'd seen the cost of a government stripping away everything from you, even your culture and language.
After a while, he couldn't really tell how long they'd just talked, they had a small meal and reality started to crash back in. Yeah he might be pretty free at the moment but Xavia did have a fair amount of responsibility. A kid, a job a worried mother by the context of the phone call. And Derek. That had been a revelation, they both knew the lad in different ways and he just knew the guy was going to want to try and get the juicy details about them. Smiling across to her, "Don't think that's possible lass, I mean I could show you how much I like having you around," adding with a cheeky grin. "But like you said, we should probably get back to the real world."
"I have your number though, and there's plenty of time in the future for our second date. Not much argument agaisnt having one at this point. And I have enjoyed our time together, today and yesterday. It's been nice, which is a bit weird for me." Generally first dates didn't go like this, or third dates really. He'd never spent the day after just hanging out with someone like this. "Want me to call you a Haven car? Should be here sooner than a normal taxi, with the added benefits of being comfier than one and free. Got to take advantage of the company resources while I can."
"Hey, it was cute. Do that flailing and I guarantee some of the guys in here will find it endearing. You'll have a dance partner in no time." He was too hard on himself, Derek was a nice guy and it came across, that went a pretty long way. Christ if he was into girls they'd be all over him, they just ate up his brand of awkwardness.
He did nearly spit out his drink at the next joke. Narrowing his eyes at Derek. "Like I said Snow, no comment on that front. I would like to know if you have information and if you got through less than normal circumstances. Not a fan of being followed, if you catch my drift." It was said in a fairly pleasant tone, less a threat and more a gentle reminder of boundaries.
Sacred him? That wasn't surprising he'd gone off the deep end and don e some pretty harsh fighting. True, Artairs style would never be pleasant, he made weapons after all, but he'd crippled a couple of the guys there and most would need months of recovery.
Waving him off as he went to call someone (Artair already had suspicions who) he had a little time to think. Hopefully the lad wasn't too frightened off by his berserker moment. Haven had a lot of good to do, they didn't need everyone behind the scenes on the less than legal side of it. With a little more confidence Derek would be a great spokesperson for the group.
"Hmmm, sorry was off in my world there. Felt pretty s---- after, spent some time finding the bottom of a bottle to calm down. I'm not proud of what happened, it was proof of why we have to be better, more responsible than the average person. One moment of anger and some bigot's spending weeks with his jaw melded shut, barely able to breath let alone eat." No had died though, that was a plus. Not his worst outing by far, but he wasn't about to tell Derek about his and Kendra's misadventure.
Bringing the conversation back to something more pleasant he took a shot in the dark and hoped he was right. "So, how's Devon. You too have a nice chat?" he asked, oh so casually.

Hello again caveman brain, why it had almost been a whole twenty minutes since you'd last gotten certain thoughts, not tired out are we? Why of why, was Artairs brain acting like this was the first pretty woman it had seen in months in his flat (it was) and just would not stop making him think like a teenager again. True, Xavia was very appealing sitting across form him wrapped up in his shirt, her face flushed a little from the cheeky comments. And yes, she was basically inviting him to make a move, but was this really a great idea? Was this sane?
"You're free to leave any time you want lass," giving her a knowing look, "but if you want to stay I'm not going to complain. I'm sure we could find a way to entertain ourselves." Yeah he was doomed. The moment she'd put it on the table it had only been a matter of time before he caved and let the more immature part of his system get a hold.
Reaching out and taking her hand, he did the swirls with his thumb she seemed to like so much. She wanted to play? He could play. It's not like he had a strict schedule at the moment and he'd planned to only do some light training today anyway. If she had no where to be, why not have a little fun together in the mean time. Sliding out of his chair and moving towards her, he bent down slowly until they were starting at each other, faces barely an inch apart. "If you're late for anything because of this, remember you wanted it," he added with on final smile, before he kissing her this time. Apparently the back and forth stealing of a kiss was going to be a thing, but he was far from upset about that.

Great battles, what? "What, oh no no they're made up. I guess you've not watched many movies but people make them to entertain, come up with fake stories and scenarios to get people happy, or in this case a little scared. It's less weird than it sounds, promise." Christ from her end it sounded weird, but it wasn't really. Was it?
"Nope, it all comes prepackaged and ready to go, we even have some stuff for sandwiches if you need something a bit more substantial." Snacks were good and all, but they didn't fill you up like proper food could. No matter how goooood it tasted.
"They are, but Combatant isn't awful, she's just a bit harsh. And distant." And unhuggable. Coughing slightly and blushing as her mind getting distracted, "but she's a good person, honest. She cares a lot about people and she helps, in her own way." Cait hadn't forgotten the money she was giving Becca to keep the place going. She had a bigger heart than she let on.
Reaching a hand out and gently touching her on the shoulder, "It's OK Aura, you're free from that now and we won't let them take you again. Right now we make new memories, fill those gaps with fun and laughter and enjoyment. I can't think of a better revenge against them than that."
Living your life after horrible events was hard, doubly when the trauma was intentional but Cait firmly believed the best way to beat them, was to not them take away your joy.
"Don't ever be sorry for telling me how you feel, it why I'm here. All of us really but I'm a pretty good set of shoulders to cry on when you need them." She'd helped more than one friend through a rough patch and more importantly, she genuinely cared about pretty much everyone she met.
Offering a hand to hold and lead her towards food, "Come on, we can get some snacks, some ice cream and just relax, have some girl talk." Aura sounded like she needed it honestly. "And when you're up to it, we can head out and have so real fun, maybe even see if there's any cute boys, or girls, you want to talk to."
Cait always felt better after getting to know a cutie. They were very refreshing.
Why would she make fun? Raine was amazing with makeup and red just seemed like it really suited her. "Would I do that dear?" Pausing for a second, "OK maybe I would but you know I love you and it's not anything mean."
"Really, why not Raine? You're beautiful and it does suit you." Cait might have some insecurities about certain parts of her body but she was generally confident. She couldn't understand her friend on this matter. She was so gorgeous and red lipstick only added to that, making her lips pop and look very inviting. Which she'd never thought. Ever.
Pursing her lips and bending down slighty for the application, "Be my guest, always glad to have my own little professional treating me right."
Once the makeup was applied and everything looked to be in order, she grabbed up the various little things she'd need, purse, keys, phone and briefly considered a collapsible baton. Yes, it wasn't legal and if she was caught with it, well that was bad, but not having to rely on her power was tempting.
Best not, wouldn't want it found and awkward questions getting raised. If worst came to worst, she could protect herself and Raine could stop anyone getting away.
"I think I have everything, unless you can mention anything I should have are we ready to go? Out the door this time," giving a pointed look at her team mate.
