The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Please don't call me that lass, I'm not a hero." Hero's didn't let anger control them, or kill people in cold blood. Hero's weren't fundamentally broken and they always got the girl. Artair knew he wasn't any of those things. Christ he knew he wasn't even a good person by most accounts and too many people were looking at him as if he were.
"Let's be fair Xavia, out of the two of us, you're the most heroic. The proofs sitting right there in your hands." A difficult birth following a difficult pregnancy wasn't uncommon but the two bairns were healthy, if tiny, girls. Not a bad ending to the whole messed up ballad, it could have been much worse. Weird to have a happy ending in his life for once, they were few and far between for him. "Congrats, you're family just got that little bit bigger."
Looking over her and the children, he was glad he'd been able to share in something so, good. Way to much pain and violence lately. "Derek's going to freak that he wasn't her for the delivery, poor lad." He was very excited about the coming kids and not being able to be present for the moment of truth was going to suck for him.
Now it was just a barrage of tests, checks and procedures to make sure the kids were OK. Tough way to come into the world but they were mostly non invasive nowadays and frankly, a wee bit of discomfort now to ensure they were fit to take home was hardly the biggest sacrifice.

An idea was more than he had frankly, he wasn't generally a planner when it came to being sneaky and manipulative. When it came to dealing with people like this, he tended to prefer a nice bit of chaos and fighting. He was good at that. This, he had no clue how they were going forward.
His eyes widened slightly at that. A power booster? Devon had gotten his hands on someone that useful and he was trusting her to him? Jesus this was going to be a tense day, not only was she a high priority target she didn't actually have a power she could defend herself with. If things went south it was going to be a very long day.
"That's a handy one to have then." His brain was whirling with the idea of it, touch based from the glove comment and she couldn't control it if he was thinking right. Interesting, it wasn't a well documented mutation at least.
"Mines easier to show than explain," pulling a dagger into reality it set it lazily spinning in an arc around him. "That's pretty much it, imagine any medieval weapon and I can make it. Pretty sharp too so you know, try to stay out of their way if something happens." He wasn't keen to find out how his powers would be affected with a boost, they were already dangerous enough without anything extra added.
The idea of his power going haywire wasn't a pleasant one. Too many pointy things.

He'd learned early to not judge a person based on appearance, they could be hiding serious skills and scary mutations behind a pretty face, but frankly this woman did not look the part for recon. She stood out, wearing designer clothes with bright blonde hair. Artair knew he wasn't the most subtle person but Christ you could pick her out of a crowd at 100 paces.
At least one thing was confirmed, he was the muscle. If she had a power it wasn't an out right combat one. Good, he hated walking in blind to how much he would have to do. "Aye, I guess I am, although it's hard to mistake me for someone else. Not many Gaels running around the city." Russian as well, that was interesting, her story must be an interesting one.
"Nice to meet you then Svetlana, guess we're working together on this one and I have a feeling you're the lead. You got a plan or do we want a quick look at the place first?" Paying defence could be an easy, if boring job. Or it could be one of the worst missions he could be on, it all depended on the partner. If she was harder than her outfit gave her credit for, it wouldn't be too hard to keep her from getting shot up.
Standing slowly and grabbing the bag from under his seat, he was glad he'd been able to start getting some useful equipment. Bit heavy to lug around, but most of it would be left in a convenient location in case he needed something from it while leaving. Like extra bolts if her ran out. "Should also probably ask, what's your particular power? Don't need any surprises on something like this."

Startling awake at the shout, it was pretty obvious why she'd woken him. Well, seems like the bairns were eager to get out an see the world, the were what three moths early? This would be a rough delivery, twins were bad enough with them being premature. Doctor mode kicked in before he could freak out, "Right, I'll have a car here soon, just breathe and try to stay sitting."
One short phone call later and he was leading her slowly downstairs to the waiting car that would be there soon. "You're gonna be fine lass, the nearest hospital has a great neo-natal unit, one of the best in the state, your little'uns will be fine." Hopefully. With kids born this early it was always a hedged bet whether they'd survive with a normal pregnancy. Twins just added extra layers of issues. Like them being even smaller than average and having overall weaker systems to deal with a complicated pregnancy.
Thank god Haven town cars were always on hand then, they were soon bundling into one and racing towards their destination, him trying to keep her comfortable while her waves of pain came and went. Not an easy task for anyone, harder still for a man who wasn't exactly the most emotional person ever.
"Not long till we get there, you're doing fine. Hey, after tonight you're little family will have grown a wee bit more." Not to mention how excited he imagined Delilah would be with finding out she was a big sister. That'd be a treat. "Just hold out a wee longer."

"Mate, trust me when I say, I know anger. I live it everyday. F--- you've seen it and that was barely scratching the surface. I know what I'm talking about when I say it changes you and not for the better." A significant pause hung in the air before he could continue, "You're not a murderer, not matter what you might think. Don't become one now."
Killing in self defence was one thing, horrible but understandable. Choosing to do it in cold blood was something else.
Answering the sudden phone, he quickly started calming her down while moving towards the way she'd gone. "It's alright lass, you're fine. We're on our way." Gesturing for Derek to follow him, it didn't take long to find her. She hadn't managed to get far after all.
Offering a gentle hand and a smile "Let's get you back to the infirmary Xavia. Pushing too far will only hurt you in the end, just take this going forward one step at a time."

This was probably the first large scale mission Devon had asked him to help with and boy did that lad know how to pick 'em. Gangs, weapons and hostile take overs, this one had them all. Not a bad way to work out some frustrations and help the mutant community at the same time, something the Scot had been needing to do for a while. Now the only issue was, what the hell was Sanctuary? About all he could find was it being a shelter which particularly helped mutants, only there were some weird reports from a few years ago about people disappearing around it. Seemed weird.
From the information he'd been given, he was helping to scout the size of a weapon smugglers operation, one who was supplying the group trying to cause issues. Made sense to him, know how big the enemy forces were and who was arming them. Was pretty straight forward.
His only issue, why choose him? He wasn't a subtle person exactly and putting him on a mission like this could only mean a couple of things. Devon expected this to go bad, or he was the muscle to keep his partner safe.
Speaking of, where was his so called 'backup' for this? He'd only been given a name, Svetlana. Russian name, if he wasn't completely wrong about it but it didn't exactly tell him much about her. What was her power, how subtle were they being with this and more importantly, could she handle herself in a fight or was he playing shield man? He hated playing shield man, added an extra two or three layers of stress to his life.
Looking up as the door opened, his mouth ran before his brain could catch it, "About time been waiting a while."
Their match ended pretty unspectacularly. Devon's disarms had failed but his attempts for a decisive blow hadn't really been any more successful. Sure he'd inflicted some bruises but nothing of any substance. Still, he had done markedly better than in the unarmed bout, able to hold his own despite his lower skill level. It wasn't surprising, but damn it did help his confidence.
"Aye, you got a damn nasty hit in though. On anyone not as used to pain as me that one would have been game over for them." Strong attempt and a very good way to deal with his range. "Still, I hope you'll no be upset if next time I wear some sparring gloves, they're still throbbing a wee bit." Thankfully no broken bones though, that would have stymied his training just a little for the next couple of weeks.
Taking a couple of minutes to cool down after the intense exercise, it gave him a little time to consider his answer. It was hard to ignore how tired he was and pushing himself too hard was a pretty bad idea but a little light power training wouldn't be too much strain.
Looking his friend over, "I'm game, if you think you can keep up," a teasing grin on his face, "wouldn't want to wear the boss out. I hear he's ever so busy these days." Not entirely untrue either, the guy had a hell of a lot on his plate right now. Artair could understand if he wanted to save some energy in case he needed it.
"Oh, I do need to ask you something though. You reckon you might be able to help me source some metals crossbow bolts? The carbon fibre jobs I tried to use kind of.....shattered." B----- miracle it hadn't taken an eye out when it happened but it did make him see just how much energy the weapons he could make packed.

Good, he needed sleep right now, proper sleep. Not the kind gotten from the bottle of a bottle or some over the counter meds. Artair had been running himself into the ground for too long, the pain and exhaustion was catching up with him. God he should know better, even if he'd been angry he'd undone a couple of moths of work strengthening his heart in a few nights. At this rate a heart attack wasn't just a possibility, it was a certainty.
"Thanks, some sound sleep is just what the doctor ordered," his voice light as she lead him to her bedroom. It, was nice he guessed. Familiar, almost like the homes back on his little island, comfortable and lived in. Mostly his eyes just focused on the bed. The woman on it too but mostly just the bed.
Reclining on it with Xavia cuddling in beside him, he was drifting off almost straight away. Comfy, warm and dangerously soft. Everything a good bed needed to be. By the time she said anything he was half asleep, the words took a little time to drag him back into something resembling consciousness.
"Hmm yes, something the matter?" Couldn't be too serious could it? The babies weren't due for another few months and the worst of her health woes had been dealt with by Doc. "Havin' trouble sleeping?" Chances are she was just wanting to talk, now that they were cozy.

He was definitely glad she had, the song was good, the melody beautiful. The voice comforting to him. Some day he should play with her, if just for fun. Sure he knew he wasn't as good as she was but he was a fair hand with a fiddle and it'd be an experience to play with some like that. "I'm glad you did, it's an amazing piece Xavia." And it would always be theirs. Something between the two of them he could always remember.
"I know, it's just new to me. Or old, very old." He'd not been afraid since he was a kid. "Since my accident I've not had the luxury to be scared. I'd forgotten how bad it was." It wasn't something he liked to think about, liked to revisit. Childhood had pretty much been denied to him, something he knew Xavia understood and even then it was hard to talk about. Some things just refused to let him discuss them. "I know though, that I want to give this a proper try, I want to be happy. I'm just glad you've let me do that with you." Happiness was also pretty new to the Scot, a refreshing change from the usual grey his life was normally.
The kiss, the embrace, it was perfect. The kids she was carrying certainly agreed too, from the feel of it. It was good, no it was amazing. Somehow more intense than the kisses they'd shared at his apartment, while being so gentle and caring. If he stayed like this much longer he lose himself in the experience and yet, that didn't seem like a bad thing.
Breaking his lips away from her reluctantly, he stared into her eyes. Yep, no where he wanted to be more right now. She had him in the palm of her hand. "Remember the first time you asked me to sleep next to you. Just that and no funny business? I think I have my answer now." He could do with the sleep, she could probably too frankly. "I could do with a nap lass you want to snuggle up and just nap with me?"

What was it people said about common sense not being common anymore, because she was like a walking example of it. Or stumbling example since she had trouble walking easily as she cuffed the two freaks together. OK, fair play to the officer, that was clever. If only to remove the little rats power from any future fights, Jenny could still be an issue, but she was a one woman issue now. No more creeping boyfriends to worry about.
Still, she wasn't in the best way. Pushing herself wasn't the best idea ever, not after a fight like that and a clear head injury. Too bad she was as stubborn as he was. "Fine lass, have it your way. But when the ambulance gets here I'm telling them the exact details of your bonk on the head. They'll not take no for an answer." Good little thing about doctors and EMT's, they could override the police when it came to patient care, Christ they could override generals and politicians if need be to care for someone.
For now, letting her ask the questions, keep her mind active was the best he could hope for. If it got worse, then he'd put his foot down.
"And aye, I think I would like to press charges. Putting them away for while seems a good idea." Attacking him was bad enough. That made him angry. But a kid had nearly got caught in the crossfire. No way they should get away without the maximum sentence they could. Despite his reservations about police, keeping people like that away from the public was a very good idea.
Answering any questions she had and keeping an eye on her condition, when the cavalry arrived and he could hand her off he was more than a little drained. A fight like that took a toll, even without any serious injuries. For now he just wanted to go home, collapse on a sofa and sleep for 10-12 hours.
I bible quote, that was interesting. Pretty applicable too given the context, they all had a heavy burden with their powers. Not just to use them wisely, but to use them to help people wherever they could. That just made sense to her and it seemed, he was also on that page of thought. Good, it meant he could be a very valuable ally. With everyone seemingly agaisnt them they needed some friends. "That's pretty much it. No point being able to make weapons if don't do something constructive with them." Wait.....that was a pun. A bad pun.
Suppressing the groan, maybe he hadn't noticed it. Well, she really hoped he hadn't because no way she was getting into a pun off, not while her brain was a little mushy after that fight.
Grinning, looks like he had the idea but the guy was so sweet. Was he flirting with her? Was she flirting with him? Probably to both questions but it was harmless for the time being. If he stayed an info source he was fair game so it definitely couldn't hurt to let him have a number. "Good idea, although I'll need yours as well. Can't be only me having all the fun." Becca wouldn't want to do some checking up on him. Best to make it easier for her. "Just in case we need your help with, crime."
He was fun to talk to, even if she ignored everything else he'd helped her with there was a fair chance she'd have pegged him as a good guy. Which was awesome, way to few of them in New York recently, even fewer willing to go agaisnt popular opinion.
Pulling a pen and paper pad from one of her pockets, she jotted down a number for one of her 'work' phones and handed it over, before offering the pen to him. "Can't just me giving it up, you gonna make a girl feel left out?"

If she didn't want to talk about it, no point pulling teeth. If Combatant had wanted to say something she really would have, with plenty of swearing and threats to accompany it, Cait didn't see any reason to force the issue. Plus, well baby steps, simply getting her to dance so close to someone else had been way more than she'd been expecting so that was cool.
Separating from her friend and slowly making her way around the place, she was getting a better feel for the place now that she could actually focus on it. Everyone was relaxed, having fun and doing all the things they did in a packed club. So plenty of people snogging in corners, the occasional pair disappearing out the main doors hand in hand and a few who'd clearly had just a wee bit too much to drink. It was glorious, like the second (or third) home for a friendly Scot and more than one person she passed had inviting looks on their faces, practically begging her to dance.
Too bad she was here for 'work' but if she was slacking and Combatant saw her she'd be in for a fair bit of pain. Not just that but these places did get some idiot trying to pass off their product, seemed fair to keep an eye out for it, if only to alert the staff. They couldn't be everywhere at once and some trained eyes might pick out someone they'd missed.
Caught between following two people who looked a little, seedier than the usual clientele, the phone alert went off. Oh dear, she'd clocked it hadn't she, Cait was a dead woman and no running would save her.
A more than slightly shaky hand checked the message, a long deep breathe of relief escaped and her heart slowed back down. Not dead, not yet at least but had Agnes actually found something? Trust her to find trouble on a fake mission, that girl was a walking trouble magnet. Seriously, did her mutation have some sort bad guy attractor attached to it?
On my way. How do you want to play it?
Heading in the direction her friend had heading, going deliberately 'normal' speed to not get too many eyes watching it didn't take her long to spy the familiar figure of the woman in a booth. Those clothes did stand out, more for how completely wrong it was to see her in them than anything else. Once again she had to offer a silent thanks to Becca for lying for her.
Putting on a big smile and approaching the table, this was going to be a laugh. Combatant clearly had a plan, from the look on her face and Cait was more than happy to be a part of it. "Hey Sweetie, you been sitting here long?"

"Good to know I make a more than acceptable pillow, just call if you need my services again." It was so good to be joking with her again, helped drive away some of his darker thoughts from recent time. Grinning, he was more than ready for some chocolate after the movie and if it was different than normal, he was more than in. New food was always nice. "I would love some mousse, sounds like the perfect way to wrap up a meal."
Following her down from the little home theatre and grabbing the cup she'd pulled out, he was just a little shocked with the sudden music. Didn't take long to hear her familiar tone in the singing and to recognise the lyrics. It was the one she'd written the morning after their first date. She'd finished it, not just that she'd recorded it two. "It's beautiful Xavia, I kind of don't know what to say." So he just listened, reaching out blindly to take her hand in his as he let the sound wash over him. The message was obvious but it was just the the way her voice mixed with the instruments that caught him, the interplay of the music that took away his breathe. No one had ever done something like this for him.
Putting down the dessert and the spoon, he pulled her into a gentle hug. It was, uncharacteristic for him to be at a loss for words but here she went and did it. More than once now actually, she just had that ability. "Thank you, this means a hell of a lot to me. More than I can actually say."
The song was like an anchor, it helped centre him a little, see how bad things were getting, now that there was someone who actually cared about him. "I...I think I'm going down a road I can't escape from. Lass I've done things I can't take back anymore and...." one shuddering breathe follow by another. "Xavia. I'm scared, of who I am."
Sprinting back towards where she'd left her team, her path back was worse, even more guards were teeming into the facility, slowing down her movement and forcing her into a take now prisoners attitude. More than one person went down with a fatal injury, even more would be crippled for life. Right now though, she didn't care, a mix of adrenaline and anger pushing her forwards.
The enclosed spaces and multiple corner put her in her deadly element, the few guards that could get a shot off before she deal with them were easily blocked with shields. Scything through yet another small group and pausing to let a few stranglers run, her head was starting to hurt. Cait was already pushing her limit as it was, any more and she'd start suffering even more effects. It was a toss up, keep up the current pace and risk it, or slow down, start sneaking and save her strength for when she needed it.
As much as it annoyed her, she knew what Impact would tell her in this situation. Remembering the map, she took a few detours through smaller passages, taking a longer route but not the one she had before.
It worked, she managed to avoid all but one startled guard who fell to her knives quickly and with one final corner she slide to a stop with the scene in front of her.
If the Scot was angry before, she was furious now. Astrid was on the ground crying and out of her crystal form, two dead guards lay next to her and the adapted was struggling with Impact. Thing were bad, really bad, but they had what they needed. Getting out was the only thing now. No matter how much she wanted to gut the woman for putting Seraph through this.
"Impact, get Seraph up, we're done," the words left her lips as she barreled into the duel from the side. With two of them, one of them armed with weapons she doubted the agent would be so quick to move in. If she had any knives she hadn't brought them into play so for now, Cait had the advantage. "Seraph! Get up, now! We need you to help cover us on the way out!" It hurt to scream orders at the shocked young woman but if they all didn't work together, they wouldn't leave the place alive.
"And you," her eyes burned with anger as she addressed the tall Super agent, "No more games, no more mercy. You want a fight, someone isn't walking away." Threats were new, she'd never really said she was going to kill someone. It was, wrong. On so many levels. What was she becoming?
Dropping into an aggressive stance, prepared for a counter with either knife should she come, if Impact had any escape plans, now was the time to use them.

The dancing was by any metric, adorable, but clearly things had to come to an end and just as she was distracted by the very pretty woman, Agnes appeared next to her at the bar and stonily ordered a beer without even acknowledging her. "Well someone looked they they've had fun, got to hand it to you, you're better than I thought. Manage to get her number?" And she was being ignored. That was......odd. Normally she had at least a comment or jab at the younger woman or even a veiled warning about any attempted hugs. Silence was all together different. Had, had she actually enjoyed it?
The big gulp of booze was a bit of a clincher. Something had gotten to her for some reason. That just made the prospect of telling her this wasn't actually for real all the scarier. If she made the girl feel for no other reason than her own amusement there would be serious ramifications in the future to deal with.
The boss would probably throw her under the bus too. No way she was taking a dive for such a stupid plan.
"Yeah, you did fine but be serious now, you OK? I've not seen you act like this." There was genuine concern in her voice and as much as she knew Impact disliked her nice, glittery personality she was still important to the red head. A member of their weird little family.
Well, a little more wouldn't hurt, Combatant was already going to kill her at this point anyway so it was time for mingling. "Right, I'm not going to tell you how to get info so circulate, ask questions try to get a bigger picture and any small leads you can."
Which reminded her, there were still little gaps Agnes needed to work on when interacting like this, "Try to stay loose, people might not see much but subtle ques put us on edge. When you stiffen up every now and then when you think they're going to touch you it puts people off, makes them apprehensive and they'll clam up." Wow, saying it out loud made it sound a lot like manipulation, worse it made it clear she was very adept at messing with peoples heads. That was a little worrying.
"And as you walk, move with the music. It forms a connection in onlookers head. In fact if you're not it makes you stand out, makes you noteworthy." Not exactly what they were going for and chances are she already knew some of this but this was training of a sort.
