The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Twyla smiled when Ruby explained that her love for math and sciences came from her father. It was apparent that the girl admired her father.Did she just spark? The older girl wasn't sure of what she'd just seen. The 'father like daughter' thing Twyla could relate to--everyone always said that she and her father were more alike than they knew. It had nothing to do with school or learning though, she just dealt with her problems in similar ways.
Henri seemed like she liked school in general. This was also something Twyla could relate to--she loved learning although not only in a school setting. Reading was her gateway to random facts and things she'd never learn in a lesson plan and she'd gotten in trouble more than once for reading in class. This didn't happen so much lately due to the fact that the blond was trying her best to get caught up with her studies so she could graduate a year later than her class and start college in a few years.
The topic turned to Ruby's older sister and Twyla smiled--of course Emerald would like something universal like music. Twyla's smile turned into a wince when an Ex was brought up. Now, she'd never had an Ex but they never sounded like much fun. A small smile returned when the younger girl asked them to help her sister get her interest in music back. In truth, she wasn't really sure how to respond or how she could help the wolf girl but Twyla found herself saying anyway: "Um, yeah. Ruby, of course we'll try." As soon as I figure out how I'll get back to you.
And then her eyes caught Henri's blue ones. It seemed like she was ready to boogie--like Twyla herself had been only a few moments before. "Speaking of working hard..." She changed quickly. "Henri and I were actually going to work out today, at the YMCA--we're trying to get back into shape. So..." This is really awkward... The girl trailed off and hoped that her friend was as good as picking up sentences as she was at changing topics.

Twyla quickly recovered from her state of shock and before anyone else could respond she was off her stool and beating on her brother with the hand not holding her apple. "What the hell kinda questions are those!? 'Hi, I'm Nate and I just met you. Are you in a relationship with someone?' That's what you just did. You big, dumb...dummy! I can't believe the crap you pull! Seriously, Nate. Seriously!?" The frenzied attack stopped as soon as Gawain began to talk and Twyla retreated back to her stool, blushing and trying to keep one eye on her...something and the other glaring at her brother who was sitting for all the world like nothing had just taken place.
The not glaring eye approved of this message from our sponsor: "Yeeeeeah we'll need to talk about that." Good choice Gawain, good choice. They really needed to get on that, Twyla didn't know how. 'Hi, what are we doing here with this, ya know, us?' seemed a little awkward.
The glaring stopped when Twyla's free eye turned to Henri. A girlish grin spread across her face and when Gawain asked who 'Ivan' was she resisted the urge to blab it out. Henri managed to explain that his name was really Van (the 'I' was sold separately), ask what a 'hook up' was, admit that she hadn't called him yet, and turn a shade of maroon that rivaled Twyla's color from earlier. And then, when it was so obvious that her gal-pal wanted to change the subject the blond singsonged: "Van and Henri sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G." Her brother, catching on to the rhyme caught up wither her and added his own voice."First comes loooove, then comes marriage, then come a baby in a baby carriage!" A pause as the siblings started laughing. "I'm so sorry, Henri." She gasped through giggles. "I had to do it."
Nate stopped laughing and instantly his face turned space cadet and his tone got obnoxiously high. "You need to call him, sweetie. I bet he's dying to hear from you." And in his normal voice he added. "He sounds kinda like a weirdo though, I gotta say." As if that concluded the subject that man's face became business again...or as close to 'business' as Nathan Ashby ever got. "Since you guys are lame here, I'll fill you in on what's happening back home." He waved his hands about as if he was excited. "You'll never guess who got dance captain this year, Twyla. I'm not trying to sound catty but you know that Sk**k Kelly Moller?"
"Oh my god, you're kidding me! Why didn't you tell me sooner!" Twyla let out a disgusted scream. "That is soooooo sad. I betcha all of their routines were one of these" She stood up and dropped herself down, slowly coming back up while twisting her hips and rubbing her hands all over herself in exaggerated 'sexy'. "Or like all up on each other." She walked over to Henri and pretended to dry hump her where she sat, giggling the whole time and looking a bit like an idiot. Okay, a lot like an idiot. "What is the world coming to?" Twyla sat down with a frustrated look on her face. Turning to Henri and Gawain she clarified: "Kelly is a piece of work if there ever was one. I swear once she had eight serious boyfriends in one month. She was only even in Dance for the attention." The girl shook her head and tried not to wonder if she'd have made captain if she had been around her senior year.

Twyla's eyes darted towards her friend's stomach even though she knew that Gawain was joking. She didn't say anything, but she did chuckle a bit. As if Henri could ever get even remotely chubby...Whoa, what's your problem, girl? Twyla knew it was a joke and was confused by her own thoughts momentarily. She pursed her lips. Hmmm...body envy much? Let's not go down that road, shall we? Body envy was not something the girl needed to worry about--there were much more important things going on in her life. Like, for instance her brother being home or that fact that she was closer than she'd ever been to being someone's girlfriend even if they still hadn't gotten around to talking about it. Those were much better things to focus on.
After she caught the apple, Twyla clapped for Gawain's impromptu show. Her brother followed suit and also laughed a bit. The girl realized how much she'd missed the easy-to-catch rumble that was her older brother's laugh. I guess you don't know what you got till it's not there anymore... Homesick thoughts, like body envy thoughts, were not good thoughts so she pushed them aside and dropped into the stool nearest Nate, leaving one left between herself and Henrietta. Apples made it better, decidedly better. So the girl took a crunching bite of her own and tried to ignore the scent pouring out of the open pickle jar.
Nate leaned farther back on the stool, looking totally at ease as if falling onto the kitchen floor wasn't an option for him. "A week is all you'll get of me. It's a crime, I know, but I'm in high demand elsewhere." This received a snort from the girl next to him. "Very, very high demand." He made sure to stare down his sister for a moment before his face broke into a grin. "So before I share my juicy news." Cue more girlish tones. "What's thehawt gossip in this corner of the country? You hooked up with that Ivan guy yet, Henrietta? What about you two--" A glance rested on the other male in the room before resting on the other blond while Nate's eyebrows waggled. "Is it official or are you two still beating around theol' bush?"
Twyla choked on her second bite of apple, her face turning a bright shade of red that she usually reserved for more dire situations. She couldn't believe--well actually, she should have seen such awkward, personal questions coming a mile away from the man so casually leaning back on the stool. And this is when Henri stops talking to me and Gawain walks away. Way to go Nate...I love you too.

The Mansion could definitely be something to look forward to. "Well, I'm glad I could have been of some help." Twyla smiled at the man with her politest and nicest smile.
"That's good to know, I'd hate to miss class." That was actually the truth--the girl was cramming in as much learning as possible with the hope that she'd get caught up and then some so that she could start college in a year or so. "You know, I realized that it probably didn't make any sense to look at a clock in a dream--especially not when I'm standing next to a mutant with the ability to manipulate anything here." A small giggle escaped her lips there. "I'm gonna say it's just you that really gets to do whatever you want in dreams."
Brian walked the distance between them and told the girl that in essence 'it was about that time'. Twyla agreed, she was curious as to what a dream without Cthulhu would feel like--she could barely remember. Thinking for a moment, the blond made her decision. "How about that loft we were in earlier? I'd like to go back there if that's cool with you." She smiled again at him. It was a simple place and simple was what the girl needed at the moment. Simple and calm.

"Oh he's mature alright...." Twyla half mumbled, rolling her eyes. If you only knew... Discussing all of Nate's character flaws with Gawain and Henri wasn't a good plan since many of his most immature moments involved his adorable younger sister. No, she'd just leave her comments on the matter at that.
Promise of beer made, Nate smiled as his gaze followed the younger boy's back to his sister and her friend. "Hmmmm..." He'd get that beer, he'd just have to have some 'bonding time' with Twyla's....whatever she was calling the non-football playing mutant boy/girl.
"As if Nathan Ashby would say no to a buzz. Oh I know what they're talking about." Twyla rolled her eyes again as she walked next to Henri and followed everyone into the kitchen. "He's such a--" She shook her head. "Nate does what he wants when he wants." A pause as Twyla realized what her friend said. "Oh my god! I've been thinking in 'something' too, I should probably figure out what's going on and all that..."
Like, for example, Nate wanted something out of the fridge, so when it was held open he made his way over and grabbed a jar of pickles and a soda. Sitting down at a stool, the hulking man made himself at home by kicking off his work boots and plopping his feet on the counter. "Nate, really?" Twyla pushed the feet down, but they came back up a moment later. The girl turned back and made a face. "Ew, pickles. I'm thinking an apple sounds good too." Her face broke out into a charming, adorable, smile. "Someone want to toss me one?" She looked pointedly at Henri and then longer at Gawain, hoping for the best and that she wouldn't have to walk to the fridge.

Sh*t. Sh*t. Sh*t. The girl could hear pounding footsteps outside of the tiny room. A moment after she heard the boots she heard a loud whoosh that reminded her of barn fans. And then she saw the vents, the source of suddenly gusting air that picked up the dust. The dust on the floor was now flying about--coating the air and the girl's lungs with fine powder. The dust storm served two purposes: it disoriented the brunette but also provided her cover from the men that were suddenly crowding into the room. Out of instinct Wallflower pressed herself against the nearest wall and let her powers shield her from the masked guards. She held her breath as she waited for them to react.
"The window is open." It was a man's voice, barely muffled by the face mask he had on. Wallflower barely made out his hand as it signaled to the other two masked men, who then fanned out in the tiny room. The door was left open and unattended and the girl debated inching her way across the wall and making a mad dash into the hall. The only problem was that she didn't know what dangers the rest of the building contained.
What if there were more men?
Worse yet: what if her powers made her obvious?
She didn't know what backdrop she'd be inching her way into--a scary prospect for a mutant that depended on her powers during these little 'jobs'. Deep breaths. The girl calmed her rapidly beating heart. The men couldn't see her--she had a minute to think. Stay or go? Those were her options. Staying limited her reaction--the unknown hallway presented more escape routes possibly and would lead her closer to her goal, whatever that was. The decision was soon made, it was her only real option anyway.
5 4 3 2 1 Move. Wallflower inched along the wall, making no noise and trying to kick up as little dust as possible. Without any problems and without obviously being detected she made it to the doorway--
and then she felt the cough crawl its way up her throat.

Since no one had any problems with getting food the group headed out. As they walked past door opening Gawain, Nate leaned down to whisper: "Henri's not as crazy as the girls back home, nice." into his sister's ear. It was a very true summation made by Nate--Henrietta Braun was no crazy-stay-out-all-night-let's-go-shopping-at-ten-and-then-find-some-beer girl like some of Twyla's crowd back home and that was a good thing seeing as Twyla never really understood those girls anyway. Louder Nate said "Thanks." to the boy holding to the door. Twyla also said "Thanks." with a smile as she passed him and made her way into the hall--luckily this time the urge to kiss him did not resurface.
Twyla stopped walking at the mention of a beer. Her brother, on the other hand, just made his way over to the boy that made the offer. The man looked down at his watch before he began to speak. "Well, it is a little early but--" He was cut off by a resounding smack as his sister planted a slap on his muscled shoulder. "I mean...It is too early for me to drink because I am not 21 yet and that would be wrong..." Nate turned to look at the blond. "Right...? Right." Nate's shoulders drooped and he slunk away from his younger sister looking like a puppy with his tail between his legs.
Twyla slowed her pace to fall in step next to Henri, who seemed to be spacing on her. "Nate approves." She smiled at the brunette. "And I bet five dollars that offering him alcohol just made Gawain his new favorite teenager." The girl sighed and rolled her eyes as she watched her older brother make his way over to her...something and lean down a bit to tell him something quietly. "Five dollar as to what they're talking about. Idiot." CUe another eye roll.
Twyla's assumption was right. "So about that beer...maybe later you could hook me up, ya know, help a brother out." He grinned his best charming grin and patted Gawain almost too forcefully on the back.

The images on the screen had woken the girl up quickly. She sat up straighter on the couch cushion, as if on edge. Well, she was on edge. The girl had the sudden urge to do something, to make something happen--to scream at the top of her lungs until people stopped being so judgmental. She couldn't really do any of these things, at least not in good form or with good conscious but Twyla could make herself better, change herself into something better, make sure she wasn't a judgmental person. Twyla Ashby wanted to run straight to the Y and get going but that would have been rude, instead she remained perched delicately on the edge of her seat.
"They won't." Twyla told toe fox girl matter-of-factly. "People have learned...I hope." Or not, that was an option too. Twyla herself hadn't actually experienced the Registration Act--only seen images of it on the news but she knew how terrible it was and had heard the stories of the camps. Sometimes she wondered if that's where Mark ended up...
The subject rapidly shifted onto little Ruby's interests and Twyla was silently relieved. It seemed like Emerald's little sister had memories attached to the previous topic and she wanted the younger girl to stay out of them. Ruby was easily diverted apparentlybecause her tone became brighter and she began to list off some of the things that she was into. Twyla couldn't help but chuckle when the younger girl admitted to the mischief with her older sister. It was a good image.
"It sounds like you're into math based science, Ruby." She made a face. "Math's not my strong point--I like biology actually, how things life can be fascinating." Hence Twyla taking an advanced biology class and an 'easy' math class her first semester back in school at the Mansion.

Twyla smiled a more human smile when Gawain's fingers touched hers in passing. Her own hand tangled itself up in his and squeezed before the boy walked away. The touch responded to what his said with 'I'm okay, really.' She was fine--she'd be fine. It was just homesickness, just a little bit of homesickness.
For some reason that little moment made Twyla want to kiss Gawain. It was a very strange sudden thought but one glance at Nate silenced it--she sensed he wouldn't tolerate public displays of affection in his presence. Why was she suddenly craving some PDA anyway? It was a strange phenomenon and Twyla was taken aback by herself. Weird...
Nate's attention focused on the tall girl as she responded to his question. "No crazy parties? I'm disappointed--That reminds me I'm got all the hot gossip, darling." When he said 'hot gossip' the man's tone changed into something emulating a feminine voice. He turned to the boy when he responded. "Nothing's wrong with--" Nate stopped talking as his mind caught up with his mouth and then traveled to all the places that 'she does other stuff too' could take him. "Right." He finally finished with slightly narrowed eyes and a half grin twisting his mouth as he turned back to his sister.
"Library, check. Can we get some food now?" He smirked at the blond and then sheepishly added after a moment and her look of disapproval: "Please?" Despite his size when Nate pouted there was something adorable in his usually angular facial features that was of course lost on his sister, who just shrugged and looked at Henri and Gawain. "I don't know, I guess we could if everyone's cool with that..." She trailed off, opening her statement up for disagreeing. Nate didn't seem too keen on a tour--which made sense. The school wasn't the important part; spending time together and meeting his younger sister's friends was the important part--at least that's what Twyla was guessing, but she could be reading into it too much. Nate did like to eat.

'Pretty awesome' didn't really cover it, but Twyla let it slide--Brian didn't live at the Mansion so he didn't have her insight and biases towards the place. It was a good place for her at the moment so her adjectives would have been more colorful and thought provoking, but she was going to let it slide. Twyla blamed it on the books. Reading too much must give her a strange dream vocabulary or something.
She ran her hands along the wall before turning back and smiling at the man. "Well, upstairs are the bedrooms." The girl motined at the twin stairwells as she walked towards the hallway that the red carpet led down. She tried to picture the rooms as best she could as she talked about them. "The classrooms are down there and so is the kitchen, dining room, and living room. Outside they have a pool and a basketball court."
"If you wanted the real tour you could come back during the day, there's always someone here to greet people and sign new students up." Speaking of students, she had class in the morning--what time was it? Instinctively Twyla looked at the clock in the hall and then remembered that she was still dreaming and that hall clocks probably didn't tell good time after you fell asleep.
"I guess I don't really know how old you are or if you need a place to stay--I'm just saying the option is there." The girl's shoulders lifted and fell as she shrugged. "There's always the Sanctuary too--I stayed there once before. There's a lot of adults there if you'd rather get away from school children." The blond was babbling now, expelling random information like a running blender without a cover but he was trying to be as helpful as possible.

Babies don't make normal people cry. You are not going to cry. Twyla's fists clenched as she plowed down the hall towards the library. She made it to the door first and stood staring at the wood as she waited for everyone else to catch up. The girl could remember the fall day that her eldest sister Mandy had come home with her husband and told their mother that she was pregnant. Everyone had been so excited and they'd remained excited through the pregnancy. Baby Henry had been born while Twyla was still scraping the bottom of her duffel bag for change to get on the bus. She still hadn't seen the nephew that was almost a year old--her first nephew. There was so much she missed while she was in New York. So much she didn't get to experience with her family. I am not going to cry. I am not going to cry. There is no reason to cry. He's a healthy baby boy, no reason to cry. Deep breaths, deep breaths.
"It seems like it's a good place for her--better than home, at least right now. They don't bother with mutants where we're from, it's not something that's affected our town much yet. If she came home...it would be hard for her." He paused, not explaining his meaning before adding. "Brave or stupid? She has tendencies towards both." A small chuckle escaped his lips and the emotional moment was gone--replaced by a polite and happy look on his face.
"Thanks, Henri. It's really weird, thinking that my sisters are old enough to be getting married and having kids, ya know?" He took the pictures back from the brunette and tucked them into his jeans pocket. "I'll give them back to her later." Nate smiled down at the girl. "I've heard a lot about you too, Miss Braun." A grin spread across his face as the trio made it closer to the door. When they made it to the girl at the end the man put his hand on her shoulder and squeezed. This caused the girl to straighten up, turn, and smile. "I love this place." She said as she pushed open the door, revealing the two story library that she spent a lot of her time in, before stepping into it so everyone else could file through. Twyla made sure to remind herself to give Gawain and Henri big smiles when they walked past to show them that everything was alright and that she was fine.
"Nice digs, I'm sure you're happy as a clam, Shy-Twy. Please don't tell me reading is all she does for fun around here." This time the man directed the question at both teenagers not his sister. It seemed as if a sudden thought popped into his head and he abruptly turned to the blond. "Did I tell you that I almost convinced Dad to get a new four-wheeler this spring? There was this Polaris--" He stopped when he realized he'd just cut himself off and turned back to the boy and the girl. "So sorry, you'll have to forgive my hick manners. I was not brought up in such elegant country as this." The man's speech was eloquent and it seemed like he was having a hard time not laughing at himself as his sister erupted into silent giggles behind him.

My posting will be sporadic to none for the next few days (I know I say that and post anyway, but this time I mean it) due to:
a. the playoff boy's basketball game tomorrow night (*cheers*)
b. the trip to Nebraska my choir is taking from Friday to Saturday that will leave me not only on a 7 hour bus ride with nothing to do but become a Pokemon Master, but in a hotel 7 hours away from my computer
c. the fact that I have a GIANT research paper due next Tuesday (*dies inside*)
d. all of the above + whatever torturous assignments my Speech teacher cooks up for me over the weekend
This affects Twyla Ashby and Van Sanders-Adamson + Henrietta Braun because:
a. she is also a cheerleader
b. she is my roomie and bus partner for Nebraska
c. all of the above + whatever torturous things sitting on a bus with me for 14 hours total does to her mind
I am soooo sorry in advance if Henri doesn't make it sanely back to Wisconsin and I will miss you if our bus suddenly goes down in a strangely in tune and chordly ball of flames.

Falling asleep at strange moments definitely topped losing the color in your legs. Hands down.
Twyla smirked at his reaction to the dream version of the Mansion. "Swank, right?" Still the perfect word for the Mansion. "The school is nice like this all over." Her hands swept the room as if to emphasize her point.
"Yeah. A lot of runaways stay at the school--kids like me that need to get back in the habit of school work and all that." Her face didn't flush at this comment and her voice didn't catch, it seemed as if Twyla was finally getting used the the fact that she'd ran away all those months ago.
"There are some older mutants too that stay if they need it. It's free..." The girl paced around the foyer as she searched for any other interesting tidbits to add. "I think they get a lot of private donations." She speculated out loud.
I love this place... The girl thought as she walked around the dream carpet, totally forgetting that her thoughts weren't shielded from the dreamwalker standing a few feet away from her. "So do you want to see anymore? Or do you have anymore questions or anything?" Twyla's pool of knowledge wasn't exactly perfect but she'd do her best to answer the man's questions--he had after all dealt with Cthulhu.
Forcing a giant clay monster to wither and sprout branches gave you mega brownie points.

Click Twyla didn't even have to think about unlocking her door anymore--it was down to instinct. As she pushed it open she heard Gawain suggest something about breakfast, to which Henri soon agreed to. "Oh yeah, you betcha'." Nate said in the worst interpretation of a Wisconsin-mingled-Minnesotan accent. "Youbetski , Nate's always hungry." She smiled back at her friends when she saw that her brother was smiling at them in the goofy way that meant he was relaxing to the situation. Hopefully her comments from moments ago would help him tone down his testosterone. She appreciated the mindset but Twyla thought she could take care of herself--she'd made her own decisions so far and everything had been fine, right?
Except for the whole Christmas thing...but that didn't count, she'd done that decision making with Henri. It didn't count if you could convince someone else to stupidly take on a giant clay monster with you.
Nate whistled appreciatively when he saw the state of her room. Piles of clothes meshed with piles of books on her floor and there were papers scattered about full of lists she'd written and then forgotten. A slight blush crept up her neck as she realized what all of the lists said and she carefully kicked a few out of the way as she swept an arm around the room. "You never change, do you?" Nate was smirking at the disarray and was still smirking when the girl slammed the door. "Oh! that reminds me." Soon the man was fishing around in his back pocket. "Mandy gave me some pictures of baby Henry to give you." A few more seconds of fishing and soon the catch of the day appeared in glossy picture form.
Gingerly, Twyla took the photos from his palm, one by one. "Oh..." Her voice was soft as she held up a picture of a baby boy lying on the floor. "He looks like his daddy more than an Ashby...Such dark hair." Her fingers traced the glossy locks gently. When she looked up again her eyes were misted over, but she angrily dabbed at the with her shirt sleeve before handing all the pictures to the brunette girl behind her. "Henri, meet my nephew Henry. Let's move on, shall we?" The man gave the girl a questioning look, but said nothing--knowing that sometimes with hissister you had to let her deal however she saw fit.
"Let's adjourn to my favorite room, the library." Twyla took the lead, practically running down the hall. Her brother slowed, matching the pace of the boy he'd questioned earlier. Giving him a long look he finally asked: "How's she been keeping up?" There were a few lines of worry in the man's chiseled face as she watched his younger sister speed down the hall, running away from baby pictures. It was a Big question and not asked lightly.
