The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Hey, Saph! I'm not sure that I have the time now, but at some point, we should definitely do a flashback thread with Astrid and Roach. I'm sure she would've had a ton of issues when first moving to America. ^_^

The song ended in a unison tonic note, and Astrid held it out a little longer than she needed to, enjoying the sound of the two violins playing together in tune. After a while, she lowered her bow and instrument and set them in her lap.
"That was very fun," she smiled at Cait. "you are a wonderful player. Do you want to do some more or do something else?"
She leant over to peek at what Cait had for them to play and eyed the different scores. There were some interesting ones, many of which she had never heard of. She realised that she really wouldn't mind playing any of them. Playing with Cait was enough of a treat in and of itself, so the song really didn't matter to her.
"Oh! You can touch my wings now if you'd like!" she offered after a minute of realisation. She had seemed very interested in them earlier, so she made it easy for the woman to accept without having to feel awkward about it. "They look very pretty in the light when they are crystal, too."

"Miss Anges is not that bad, she is just misunderstood," the teen enthused. She really did believe that some day, she would make Combatant smile and participate in the happiness that occasionally went through the offices.
She listened while her parents discussed, not butting in at all in case it would make them change their minds. She only began to speak again once she was told to go to bed.
"Okay," Astrid agreed dreamily as she turned to exit the room. They were letting her keep the cat, and that was really all she cared about. Save for her time at her music lesson, she could spend the entire day with her new friend! It was some of the best news that she had gotten in months.
She turned back, accidentally knocking a cup off of a dresser with her wing, and looked at Rebecca. "I love you too!" she exclaimed with a grin, not even noticing the water that was beginning to spread over the floor.
With that, she scurried out of the room, Bijou held tightly in her arms. She rushed to her room and set Bijou down on the bed, allowing her to get a good look at her new surroundings.
While the cat was moving around the room and getting ready to go to bed, Astrid closed the door to her room and shut the window, making sure that there was no way for Bijou to escape her new home and go back to the streets where she would be alone and cold.
After changing and giving the cat a few moments, Astrid then settled into bed and set Bijou down on a nest of blankets. Both the girl and the cat then settled in for the night.

Astrid strode forward to greet her two adoptive parents, the cat still nestled in her arms. Her heart was beating far too quickly in her chest for it to be a normal rhythm, and she could feel her eyes starting to bulge. Her skin felt clammy, too. She was more nervous than she had been in a long, long time.
Bijou squirmed slightly as Rebecca and Jesse conversed. Astrid was silent, trying not to push her luck any farther than it would go naturally. However, when she heard Rebecca mention that the apartment didn't allow pets, she made a sound like a wounded animal. That was what she felt like, after all. She had just saved the little creature, and she was suddenly having to face the fact that she could be ripped from her arms after such a short period of time.
>> ”Jesse, babe… do you think we could get away with keeping a cat at the base?”
>> "Well, people get away with doing a lot of things at the base."
Astrid's face brightened suddenly. That was a viable option. She stepped in place and hugged the cat closer to her chest, a gleeful expression on her face. "We could totally do that! We could bring her to the base and let her be the team pet! Maybe the team mascot! That would be so very cute!"
She beamed at her parents. There was no use in trying to hide her excitement from them, anyway. She was very excited. That was a fact, and there was nothing that could bring her mood down. Certainly not the fact that they were talking about bringing a cat into a sterile place, anyway.
By that point, Bijou had managed to squirm right out of her arms. She set her down on the ground and watched as the cat stretched out and went around the room, sniffing the new space that she'd just been put in.
Meanwhile, Astrid put her hands on her hips and took a deep breath in, assuming that the decision was final. "We will probably have to take her to a vet to make sure that she is not sick and then buy her some food and a collar. This will be perfect! Mister Geo and Miss Agnes can watch her when they stay over for the night!"

>> "How did you... end up in Ragnarok?"
Astrid took a step back and leant against the bathroom sink, thinking through what the question meant for a minute. How did she... end up there?
After a few seconds of staring, Astrid answered, hoping that she had figured out the right meaning behind her words. "Asking to be here?" she answered with a shrug.
It had been a bit more complicated than that, really, but that was the gist of it. She'd joined a fight with a powerful mutant, impressed him (clearly with nothing other than her amazingness, and not her ability to be a wonderful minion), and he showed her Ragnarok. She'd been hooked after that. There was no going back.
Well, for then, at least. She was still open to better offers.

Astrid nodded, excited that she'd been given the go-ahead to start playing. She flipped through the pages quickly, trying to identify if there would be any tricky passages or key changes. For the most part, it looked like smooth sailing, so she figured that she'd be alright.
She tapped her bare foot on the ground, counting them in to a count of four. That was the nice thing about pop songs. You could always assume that they were in four-four.
After the count in and a wait of five and a half beats, Astrid started the song. She expected that Cait would follow along with her in unison. Her fingers moved along the strings, keeping the syncopated rhythm moving along with the rise and fall of her foot.
She was glad that the song was in A flat major since she wasn't sure if she would be able to focus on a crazy key signature on top of the funny rhythms. It didn't exactly help that it seemed to be missing the tenor and bass parts, either.
Luckily, she had Cait to follow along with. Her playing leant slightly on the older woman, using her notes and rhythms as a guide for what to play. They moved through the piece somewhat easily after getting used to what they were playing and soon came up to the bridge, where there was a descant.
Astrid took the lower part, which was easier to play and more in line with the previous rhythms and notes. The descant would soar above her part in long, slurred notes. She expected that Cait would be able to play it well.

"Maybe a little bit," Astrid admitted, feeling her regular-coloured face grow flushed. She had actually been very excited to play with Cait. She seemed so cool and happy, and when Astrid had found out that she played the violin, she'd been over the moon. Then, when she'd found out that she would actually get to play with her, her excitement levels were nearly uncontainable. She'd bounced around her apartment for a good few hours after she'd received the news.
Astrid nodded and grinned. "A major is lovely. Let us start with that, yes?" She hummed to herself, matching pitch with the notes that came from the strings that she slid her bow along.
She played a scale, a scale in thirds, and then an arpeggio before switching up to the next major key. From there, she repeated her pattern, expecting Cait to join in whenever she was ready.
Once they had played the warm up in five keys, Astrid stopped playing and looked at Cait. "I think that we are ready to start playing. Do you?"
She was eager to start playing the song that the woman had picked.

Astrid's window fell shut behind her with a loud thump. There was no way that both Becca and Jesse would have missed that. She was well and truly screwed. Well, really, she had been screwed the second that she flew back to the apartment building with a live animal.
The girl knew full well that she wasn't supposed to go out after bedtime. That much was an obvious rule. Don't go flying around New York City after dark alone when there are people kidnapping mutants hanging around. However, there was something about the feeling of being above everything else and, well, free that made her want to ignore the rules that had been put in place for her own safety.
She also knew that bringing a cat home to an apartment that didn't allow pets and two parents who'd already told her that she couldn't have a pet. However, when she saw the scrappy little thing wandering the streets alone, she couldn't very well just leave it there.
It had been alone in an alleyway, devoid of tags or identification, and very clearly malnourished. Beneath the dirt and matted fur, there was a female brown tabby with bright green eyes. Astrid had coaxed it toward her with the cheese string that she'd had in her jacket and then plucked it right up. At first, the cat had been scared, but with some cheese and gentle petting, Astrid had won it over. They were cut from the same cloth; abandoned and then found by someone willing to give them the love they needed.
So, Astrid had high hopes as she jumped down from her bed that late night. Her adopted mother, Rebecca, had a soft spot for strays. Everyone knew that. Maybe, just maybe, if she tugged on her heartstrings enough, then she could get her to agree to let her keep the animal. If not, then Astrid would be making a scene. Either way, there was no way that the critter was going back out on the streets with her around.
"Shh," Astrid whispered soothingly, trying to get the cat to stop wriggling in her arms. She stepped out of her room and down the hall, holding her breath until the proper time.
As soon as she'd reached the room that had previously occupied both of her parents, but at that point only held one, she opened the door. Normally, she would have knocked, but she was too excited to bother. "Mom...s! Look!" She added the s on the end as she remembered what form Jesse had taken that morning.
She held the cat out for the two woman to take a look at. It was a filthy, wriggling, skinny little thing, but there was no denying that it was very cute. Astrid licked her lips and began to the spiel that she'd been rehearsing in her head for her entire fly home.
"I know, I know, I am not supposed to be going outside after nighttime, but I found this cat! And she's so cute! I named her Bijou because her eyes look like green jewels and I want to keep her," she finished. Her blue eyes were wide as she glanced at the two women who had the power to decide the fate of her new friend.

>> "Wha... wait, huh?"
Astrid rolled her eyes, though if it had not been for her body language, that fact would not be evident from her pure black eyes. Did the woman seriously not understand her the first time around? It was a chaos faction. She really didn't know how much more clear she could be. Perhaps it was her accent? Astrid figured it could hurt repeating to make sure that wasn't the case.
"Rag. Na. Rok. Chaos faction. Blow the things up," she repeated, slowing down each syllable so that there was no chance that anything could possibly be mistaken. The woman would understand what Ragnarok did if it was the last thing that Astrid ever accomplished.
>> "Whoa... um, how old are you again?..."
Astrid shrugged. "Quinze," she replied in French. Counting in English was still one of the things she struggled with. She squinted back at the woman and sneered at her. "How old is you?"

"Alright," Astrid nodded and smiled. Shiny things and fluffy things could be very distracting - that was a fact that she knew full well. She did, after all, have one of those things on her back at any given moment. Luckily for her, she'd grown accustomed to having them there, so she didn't find them as distracting as other people. Otherwise she would have never gotten anything done.
Cait set out a song on the music stands, and it immediately registered with the young girl. 'Happy', by Pharrell Williams had always been one of her favourite songs. The lyrics were so wonderful, and it had such an amazing beat. It still amazed her that anyone could dislike the song or be annoyed by it. It was like being annoyed by sunshine! Impossible!
"Of course!" Astrid grinned excitedly. She ran her fingers along the page, giving the notes a quick glance over before they played them. It was going to be so fun. "I love this song! It is so happy and lovely. Do you play it often?"
She picked up her violin and rested it under her chin, plucking out a few notes distractedly. "I did a few warmups before you arrived, but we can always do more. Maybe some arpeggios and scales? Do you have a favourite key?"
Astrid had always been partial to E flat major. It was such a joyful key.

>> "You said Ragnarok, right? What's the deal with that, anyway? Is trying to summon Bloody Mary a part of... whatever it is that you do with the?"
Astrid's arm dropped to her side and she regarded the woman with a fresh curiosity. Were there really people that didn't know what Ragnarok did? What a sad existence! Astrid suddenly had a new desire: she had to educate the poor woman and make her life better.
"Ragnarok is being... chaos faction," she began to explain. How did one describe the best thing that ever happened to them with limited English? It was more difficult than Astrid had assumed that it would be. She searched for the words to accurately describe what they did. "We are doing... the killing and the explosions. We being best and worst thing to New York City and Earth."
She smirked, pleased with her response. She assumed that since the woman was hanging out beneath New York City, that surely she'd share similar sentiments. Things needed to be blown up. People needed to be murdered. Ragnarok was there for that.

When Isabel stood up, so did Astrid. She didn't even mean to, really. It was just that she had been so entirely focused on the woman, that when she made a move, the teen felt an overwhelming compulsion to copy it. There was a loud clatter as her chair was pushed behind her, which made her face go bright red. She didn't want people to know that she was copying the woman.
Sheepishly, she rearranged her chair so that it fell in line with the other chairs, and then matched the sneer of the person behind her that she'd pushed the chair into. She then sat down, her face still red, in order to watch the encounter between Isabel and the Fancy Man.
She really wasn't even listening to what they were saying. Her eyes, however, did widen as Isabel threw a punch at the man. Unconsciously, she mimicked the action in front of her, accidentally punching the person in front of her. Luckily, it was a very soft punch, so it only garnered her another glare. She matched it and then went back to her obsessive staring.
Her phone dinged in her pocket, momentarily breaking Astrid's concentration. She pulled out the phone that Muninn had gotten for her and glanced at it briefly. It didn't look like anything too important, so she turned her attention back to the meeting.
October was talking about something, so the teen decided to be gracious enough to listen. He seemed irked about something, but she wasn't sure what it was. Hadn't Loki called the meeting? Why was everyone getting mad at him?
Well, she didn't know the answer, so she figured that perhaps someone would explain what was going on in the meeting. Her eyes went back to Isabel, and she waited for someone to direct the meeting.
<I play by myself,> Astrid snapped. She was a solo act. She always had been, and she always would be. That was her thing. She didn't play well with people, whether it was with music or not, and the last thing she needed was some old guy finding her random strangers to play with. What was she, some kind of show pony? <And yes, I own one. I'm not that needy.>
She silently wondered if any of her French insults would translate well, but didn't bother to find out. She could insult him in her head and keep from getting in trouble.
>>“Is there anything else you might be better at and enjoy than attempting to rob a store for no reason?”
She rolled her eyes again. There really wasn't anything else that could be expected at that point. Of course she liked other things! She liked... murder...? She liked Ragnarok. And Isabel Duskmoor. October was alright. None of those were suitable answers, though.
<I like yoga?> she shrugged. She didn't really like it, but she was relatively good at it, and it seemed like another safe answer.
