The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Juliette watched at Atian's face moved swiftly from a look of disappointment to shock, and then finally happiness. As he stepped aside, she stepped slightly closer to get a better view of the street in front of them. She apologised quickly to some pedestrians as she accidentally blocked their path.
“Juliette; I’m Atian pleasure to meet your acquaintance.” The stranger said to her. He then extended his hand, to which Juliette paused for just a second. She wasn't used to strangers being particularly friendly on the streets of New York, and she was at quite the disadvantage due to her stature. However, she knew it would be rude to refuse, and he had been perfectly sociable up until that point.
After what Juliette worried might have been too long, she took his hand in hers. "And yours as well, Atian," she smiled at him. She didn't notice at first as her hand lit up brightly when it came into contact with Atian's.
She made eye-contact with him for a moment, and then her eyes trailed down to the handshake. She gasped and then quickly pulled her hand away, worried that someone might have seen. Her hand went back to her normal tanned colour, but it tingled aggressively. "What just happened?" She asked Atian nervously, having never experienced anything like that.
"You've been such a trooper today," Juliette smiled widely at the young girl splayed out on the stretcher. She was just a little over six and had taken a tumble off of her new bike, which she had explain had no training wheels, that resulted in a trip to the hospital for stitches. Juliette had just finished applying the last bandage over the stitches in her forehead, which would certainly leave a scar.
Juliette stepped out of the little area that was warded off by a thin blue curtain and removed the latest pair of latex gloves that covered her hands, throwing them quickly into a trash can. She walked over to the desk and propped her head up on her arm, her smile having disappeared. She was beyond tired, but she refused to let any patients see it. What she really needed was a nap, or perhaps some energy.
She looked around cautiously at the light fixtures that hung around the crowded E.R. Would there be a way for her to absorb some without being seen? Probably not, she decided. It was better not to risk it than to have to face the consequences of being outed as a mutant.
Juliette picked up a clipboard kept just out of sight behind the nurse's station. She scanned the page, forcing her weary eyes to take in the information. Then, she scanned the room, looking for the next patient. Her eyes fell on one and she pointed to them, "you can follow me."
Juliette's eyes fell on the damaged phone, having gotten over the initial shock of seeing his appearance. She felt as though she shouldn't be one to judge, though. Just because her mutation wasn't an outward one didn't mean that it wasn't just as strange. Her features returned to their regular state that she employed when seeing horrific disfiguration in the hospital.
The brunette looked back up at the stranger as he spoke, registering his question. "I'm sorry but could you be more specific? I'm new here and there are a lot of intersections." He had stated. She concentrated, trying to picture the street over with the store in question. Typically, when she walked by she disregarded her surroundings. They had become so commonplace that they were inconsequential to her.
"I can't seem to remember the street name," Juliette said, clearly trying to remember. She retraced her steps in her mind, doing her best to picture the street sign. Nothing came to mind. "I might be able to lead you there, though. Oh- I'm Juliette, by the way."
Juliette Lawson hummed along quietly to the song that blasted from her headphones. She knew it was terrible for her ears to listen at such an intense volume, but she had grown so accustomed to it that it felt strange to set it any other way. Besides, it covered the obnoxious buzz of the city she had begun to call her home.
As she walked out of the subway station and back onto the street, she kept mostly to herself. A winter jacket covered her blue scrubs from the waist up, so she didn't tend to receive too many questions about them. As she walked the route she had taken so many times before, however, she felt a sudden tap on her shoulder.
She turned around, bleary eyed from a long shift, and looked at the stranger in front of her. She looked down to try and hide the look of shock that covered her features as her eyes darted over his strange appearance. She took out her earbuds quickly, doing her best to make eye-contact with him without betraying her feelings.
"I'm sorry?" She asked, trying to decipher what he may have said over the noise of her music. "A phone store? I believe there's one at the next intersection."

Character
Personality: Juliette has a fairly mild personality when she is comfortable in a situation, but if she is uncomfortable or threatened in any way she can seem on aggressive or on edge. It's difficult to make her actually angry, but if you do, you'll know right away.
She has a thing for sarcasm and inside jokes, often using them when she's close to someone. Once someone has made an impression on her, she is very loyal and puts important relationships over most other things.
She is fairly confident and has no trouble standing up for herself - something that she had to learn on her job. She has no issue speaking her mind when she feels something needs to be said.
Juliette likes adventure and won't turn down an interesting situation, but she also isn't a fan of danger. She is exposed to the bad side of situations far too often and usually thinks ahead to the worst possible situation. She is good to have in a fight as she reacts well under pressure and is a quick thinker.
In part due to her mother, Juliette has a strong desire to take care of other people. It's what lead her to nursing, as well as what often leads her to situations where she's the caretaker.
Hobbies/ Interests: Cross-country running, reading, listening to music, yoga, and hiking. She loves being outdoors and will try to be out in the sun as much as possible.
Job or part time job and description: Teaches health classes at the mansion and works occasional nursing shifts at a hospital in NYC. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: She is terrified of the dark as it means that there is no light energy and she is powerless. Special talents: Good long distance runner, good at first aid.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. Juliette believes that there is good in the world, and hasn't yet lost all hope in people. That being said, she isn't naive and will question things. She can hold her own in a fight, but she needs a reason to be in one.
Mutations
Mutation description:
Light energy absorption. (Sunlight, artificial light sources, fire, etc.) This ability allows her to absorb any kind of light energy and use it to charge her mutation. When she runs low on energy, she becomes lethargic and weak. Her power sort of works like a rechargeable battery. The more energy she absorbs, the longer she can use it. For example, absorbing the energy from one lamp would likely give her enough energy to stay in her energy form for about twenty minutes without using any blasts, or fly about one block. As well as this, she can store energy for about one day before it gradually "leaks out of her", so to speak. She must consciously absorb energy, meaning she will not do so if she doesn't mean to.
Juliette can absorb anything that emits a good amount of light. This is measured the same way that it is by the human eye. Things that emit more light will charge her power faster, and dim light will do very little. For example, absorbing all the visible light from a light fixture would probably give her enough energy to shoot several blasts and be in energy form for a few minutes. Artificial energy works well, but solar energy works far better. Because of this, she much prefers to use solar energy and spends as much time in the sun as possible.
If she is not doing anything with her powers, Juliette could go a few days with just the light from a lamp. However, more use of her powers means more energy must be absorbed to sustain the use. (See power growth.)
The same way, she can absorb too much energy. It takes a lot to do so (for example maybe absorbing all the light from a very large explosion all at once), but once she has absorbed too much, she has to either use it or it will build up and either create a large blast that she cannot control, or simply kill her. (See power growth.) A sign that she absorbed too much energy is that her normal human skin begins to glow. Usually, if the energy is absorbed in a reasonable period of time, she has time to use it or get rid of it. If it is absorbed all at once, that is far more dangerous.
Energy manipulation. Once the energy is absorbed, Juliette can use energy in various ways. The biggest of these being:
A pure energy form. Juliette can make her body into a form of pure energy. When in that form, she is invulnerable to heat, blasts, and most attacks. She keeps a humanoid appearance, but she is made entirely of light energy. She cannot eat or drink in this form, but she can speak. She does need to breathe, meaning that she is not immune to poisons, and could not survive if air was removed.
Firefly form. Once in energy form, Juliette can break her body apart into metaphorical energy fireflies. They resemble specs of light and make it difficult for her to be hit or caught. The same rules apply to her Firefly form as with her energy form, except that she can see from each firefly, and she cannot talk.
Energy blasts. The blasts do not burn and feel like being struck by someone of moderately increased strength. The blast can travel quite far, but she has to be able to aim well, and they do much more damage closer up. The further the target is away, the less likely she is to hit it, and the less damage they do. When she is about to shoot a blast (which she can only do from her hands), energy builds up in either one or both hands and they begin to glow. Blasts require the least amount of energy, and she can do them in any form except Firefly form.
Flight. While in energy form, Juliette can fly short distances. This requires a great deal of energy and she can't sustain flight for much longer than a few blocks, even with a lot of energy.
Strengths: Juliette's mutation allows her to withstand heat, and her energy form allows her to be invulnerable.
Weaknesses and Limitations:
Juliette must absorb either a large quantity or a continuous stream of energy in order to use her powers. More complicated aspects of her powers (energy form, Firefly form, flying) take more energy to use.
If she does not absorb energy for two days she becomes lethargic and extremely weak. If she runs completely out of energy, she will get so weak that she will die. (See power growth.)
In order to get energy, she must use sources around her. This can be difficult as it is sometimes obvious when she absorbs large light sources (they flicker, go out, occasionally cause outages), so it gets her noticed. Also, it puts a large strain on her electricity bill.
The longer Juliette stays in her light form, the hotter she gets. Like a lamp, when she first shifts, she is not hot, but also not fun to touch. Her minimum temperature (when first shifted) is 40ºC, and her maximum temperature (after being shifted for an hour, which very, very rarely happens) is 2000ºC.
She will tend not to stay in her energy form for long, as after about ten minutes of being shifted, any kind of fabric clothing that she’s wearing will catch fire. She will burn people and plants if touched, but her blasts dissipate quickly enough and don’t have long enough to heat up that they will feel concussive rather than hot.
Power Growth (04/22/2017):
Lightspeed travel. Juliette can travel at the speed of light, aka 299 792 458 m/s, or 186,282 mi/s. She can travel as far as she can see, provided that there are no obstructions in her way. She can only use this ability when in light form or firefly form.
Strengths:
The ability to travel at the speed of light. This allows her to move faster than a human eye can blink or register, nearly making it look very much like teleportation.
Juliette can take objects with her that she would normally be able to lift, but she cannot hold them for long, as she has to be in her light form.
She can travel at this speed while flying or running.
Weaknesses
The biggest, most pertinent weakness is that this additional power changes the way she is able to absorb energy. She can no longer go more than two days without absorbing energy, even if she doesn’t use her powers. At the 12 hour mark, she will begin to feel dizzy, and at the 24-hour mark she will become extremely lethargic, and start displaying symptoms similar to a very bad case of food poisoning. After 2 days, she will become so weak that her body will shut down completely.
Each time she shoots off five blasts, the time for each sickness marker is cut down by one-quarter.
Each time she changes forms for more than five minutes, uses her Firefly form, or travels at light speed, the time for each sickness marker is cut in half.
The amount of energy that it takes to overcharge her has also decreased. Rather than a great deal of energy, Juliette can become overcharged by an amount of energy equivalent to sitting in the sun, absorbing energy for an hour straight. Thankfully, her power has learned to counteract this effect; rather than her being unable to stop blasts from shooting off, she will automatically transform into her light form until she has reached a stable amount of energy. If she continues to absorb energy after that, she will automatically (and unwittingly) either use her light speed travel or her Firefly form.
She can only travel as far as she can see.
Objects in her path will obstruct her travel. She cannot go through walls, and if something is placed in her path, it will stop her. Thankfully, she is still invulnerable.
She can trip while running.
Physical Abilities
General Physical Capabilities: (Strength/Speed/Reflexes/Stamina/Flexibility) -Speed: No quicker than someone of her age and health. -Strength: A little stronger than someone of her age and health. -Reflexes: Good, but not excellent. -Stamina: Excellent. -Flexibility: Slightly more flexible than someone of her age and health.
Fighting Style: Talk first, then resort to fighting. She knows basic self-defense moves but will stick to using her powers if possible. Fighting Style Pros/Cons: Some people don't always like talking, but sometimes it saves lives.
History Of Your Character
Juliette's mother was a tourist on a trip to the Caribbean and wound up getting herself pregnant. She named her new daughter after her hometown in Georgia and gave her daughter her own last name. When the father refused to co-parent, she returned home to raise her daughter with her parents in Georgia, where she stayed until Juliette's powers developed. Juliette entered school and found that she had a difficult time fitting in, which was only made worse when she soon found that she fell ill the first time around.
As it turned out, it was her powers that were causing her to fall sick and miss school, and so the doctors could find nothing wrong with her. The only thing that seemed to help was spending time out in the sun or under bright lights. It was when she spent a full afternoon outside that her powers first showed themselves in their true form. She shifted form entirely into pure light, and then shifted right back. After that, it took her a full year to shift again, though bursts of light were quite common.
Once her powers were out in the open, Juliette and her mother moved frequently, as it was difficult to keep her powers from interfering with everyday life. Kids could often be intolerant, and it was easier to just go from place to place rather than putting down roots. When she was missing school constantly, it was tricky to stay up with the content, so Juliette's mother would often teach her things herself. It became a sort of mix of home schooling and public schooling.
Juliette found it difficult to make friends as they moved every few months. As a result, she grew very close to her mother, seeing her more as a sister. She never stayed in touch with her father and took on her mother's bitter view of him. Who needed him when she had everything she needed in her mother and an occasional visit with her grandparents? She certainly didn't, especially since he'd never wanted anything to do with her.
Her mother, however, was very young and had never intended to be a parent. She had trouble holding a job and preferred to stay out rather than be a responsible parent. She would often be around during the day time to teach Juliette, but she would be out late at night, losing aspects of her former self with each night that she stayed out too late. It became such an issue that her daughter became good at caring for herself alone. While, unfortunately, she had inherited the gene of being a terrible cook, she was still able to make it through most of the things that she needed to. They were still as close as ever, but the rift had started.
Her mother died of cancer when Juliette was in college. It was a quick onset, with very little warning and a short timespan. Rather than waiting the few months for the cancer to simply finish what it started, she chose to take her own life in a state where it was legal. This was incredibly painful for Juliette, and she saw it as another form of abandonment, but she decided that it should be taken upon her to work toward a world where people didn't feel like she did. Since then, she has finished school and spent the last year working as a registered nurse in the E.R. of a hospital.
IC HISTORY
Just about a year into her time in New York, Juliette made the choice to to join the X-Men. She moved her career to a(n extremely occasional) part time position and began to work as both a vigilante and at the Xavier Institute as the school nurse and health teacher. Sample RP: Juliette shook her head and looked around the crowded room for some sign that the flow of patients would stop. There was none. She narrowed her eyes and tried to concentrate on the information form of the patient currently seated in front of her, screaming in agony. It looked like it would be another long night.
She stood up, moving quickly down the hallway to a supply room. She stood in front of a large shelf and rested her head against the cool metal, closing her eyes. After a few moments, she looked up and snatched a bag of cotton balls off of the shelf, hearing the cheap plastic crinkle under her grip. Juliette walked swiftly back to her patient, her sneakers squeaking on the tile floor.
Juliette reached the edge of her patient's bed and looked over the information once more. She ignored the screams as she spoke over the patient.
"Mr. Anderson? Can you tell me if you're allergic to any medications?" She practically yelled at the ageing man.
Mr. Anderson merely continued to scream over her, clenching his fists against the sterile sheets.
Juliette sighed and injected him with a low dose sedative. The noise subsided as the man slowly drifted off.
"Page Dr. Lee again for me, please," she asked a fellow nurse as she removed her latex gloves and walked out of the room.
