The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

I would love a new thread as well. Darkshift is a teenage runaway, truant and thief. Her power is that of a partial shifter. I'd be up for just about anything.
Count me in. Darkshift is a teenage runaway, thief and partial shifter. She's recently joined the Order and fashions herself as a kind of mutant super hero. She's prone to getting trouble, legal or otherwise, and has a bit of a chip on her shoulder. Open for just about anything.
"I can't fly, unfortunately. The rest of my body is just too heavy. But I can glide pretty effectively if I jump off of a cliff or building or something." It was a strange feeling to have her abilities so admired but also a feeling she liked. "Nor can I shift up my height," she added with a laugh. "Unless growing antlers counts." With those words an impressive set of moose antlers appeared on the top of her head only to melt away a few moments later.
"Energy beams, now that's awesome!" The words were stated with authentic emphasis. "For those of us who are, uh, a little bit trouble prone, energy projectiles sound amazing." No need to mention that she was usually the cause of her own trouble and that she usually deserved whatever trouble found her.
"Well, for that matter I don't really know what my shifts are made of either. I think they're kind of an extension of my aura but what really is aura made out of anyway? I guess powers are sometimes funny like that."
Nervousness was not something cared to admit she possessed and fear even less though. Yet, this was just the sort of situation where both applied. Jail was not something she was prepared to deal with. Maybe a career thief should have a more laisefair attitude about such things; after all, it wasn't like she didn't know the risks her lifestyle entailed. Didn't matter. She'd be damned if she was going to prison. Prison was for bad thieves, not good ones and she was improving daily. Screw the risks.
"I'd say we've got a plan then." One more drink of coffee in order to give her a moment to steel her resolve for what was to come and she was ready. "Wait by the door, as soon as it opens you blind it and we start running." A little bit reckless maybe, but wasn't that just the story of her entire life?
Darkshift tried to look casual as she stood up and walked to the door. She tried to ignore the looks of the other patrons of the coffee shop, many of whom had obviously caught on that the two of them weren't exactly normal patrons. Do or die, their freedom depended on it.
The relief at finally entering the Sanctuary doors was palpable. So too was the question of what to do from here. While Darkshift was no stranger to getting herself into trouble, including someone else in that unfortunate game was something to be far less comfortable with. She could take care of herself just fine. Taking care of someone else? Well, there were reasons she lived alone.
Seeing Tyson collapse to the ground, she knelt beside him. "How much of this blood is yours?" Medical assistance was yet another in a long list of things she wasn't comfortable with. And touching people. "I'm going to help you remove the jacket now, OK? So we can see how bad you're injured." Slowly, remembering his earlier actions that suggested he was half a wild animal, she reached down to take the jacket off of him in order to better find out how severe his wounds were.
"You should be able to stay here as long as you like." Talk to distract the both of them. Distraction to avoid thinking about what had happened and what was happening now. "Once we get you patched up, I can call Lisa. She can set you up with a room if you want one." Maybe she could find an actual doctor too. Her own leg ached abominably but she did her best to ignore it. More important things to worry about than her personal discomfort.
I have got a radically different schedule at work for the next few weeks resulting in not having my mornings free, which is when I do the majority of my posting. I'm not actually going anywhere, but posting may be scarce for the next few weeks. I'm going to try my best to catch up on the weekend. Apologies to everyone who has been waiting on me.
While she wasn't certain where the older woman was leading them, Darkshift had no unease about venturing down dark alleys. The alleyways were her home far more so than the lighter and more populated parts of the city. Too many eyes upon her made her uneasy, perhaps as a side effect of having a power that naturally promoted lurking in dark corners. The deeper the shadows, the easier it was to remain unseen. Unheard was another skill entirely, but she was getting better at that one with every passing day.
It didn't come as a complete surprise that Danica would turn out to be a mutant nor that she might choose to show off her powers, given what she all ready knew about Darkshift. It was more surprising to see exactly what she could do and applause followed the delightful display, despite the somewhat uncomfortable looking landing.
"Wonderful display!" The words were spoken with authentic feeling. Ever since joining the Order she had met more mutants than she previously thought possible and all of them were amazing in their own unique ways. "As for what I can do, I call myself a partial shifter." Instead of explaining what that meant, she chose to display her powers instead. The other woman had all ready seen her scaled skin, so another direction seemed apt. Pale skin melted into black fur and her head transformed into a panther's head. From her back grew great black feathered wings. She stretched her wings out before her shifts faded back into her normal human form. "Partial animal shifter." It sure was fun comparing powers.
Darkshift felt for the fact that the wolf was obviously suffering but it was more important that they move quickly and not attract attention than it was to stop and tend to him. Empathy. It was not an emotion she was particularly familiar with. Once, perhaps, before she discovered she was a mutant and her mother had kicked her out to the streets. After that, however, it was all about herself and her own survival. It felt like such a long time ago but in fact it was less than a year. So much could change in such a short period of time.
When Tyson stopped and doubled over, so too did Darkshift. Was it appropriate to pat the mutant in reassurance when she noticed him crying? Would it come off as condescending, like petting a pet dog? She wanted to help but this was far outside her realm of experience. "Its not far now." Words. Empty words. They were the best she could offer.
Only minutes after he recovered and they continued did the great golden doors of Sanctuary finally come into view. "This is it. Sanctuary. Its kind of a mutant shelter for mutants who don't have anywhere else to go. Or mutants that can't go home." She ran up to the doors and opened them, relief flowing through her.
"Pleasure to meet you Danica," Darkshift answered with a grin. For once, she actually meant it. Which was rare as people were rarely her favourite things in the world. This person, however, had a delightfully twisted sense of fun which was something she could relate to. She Jumped forward towards a particularly frightened looking girls and laughed in delight at her reaction.
"Somewhere else sounds very sensible," she agreed. The choice of words was interesting, that someone might start shooting and they'd end up dead. Normally guns implied the one being shot at would end up dead, not the other way around. Perhaps the women thought her own powers were more lethal than they were and, not that she didn't appreciate the sentiment, but guns were one thing she didn't get along with especially well.
"Hang out in dark alleys yes. Scare unsuspecting humans, not so much." She followed beside Danica. Now was probably not the best time to go into her history as a thief and a truant. Not exactly the best small talk to start off a possible new friendship. So, she changed the topic. "Most people are afraid of mutants. Not you. Curious. You a mutant or have mutants in your life?" Reasonable assumptions, all things considered.
Yup, now there was no denying the sound of commotion outside. She tried to peer outside through the window in the door trying, probably unsuccessfully, to look as inconspicuous as possible. Unfortunately there wasn't much noticeable from her vantage point. She wanted to swear and swear loudly, but a rare moment of common sense silenced her tongue.
"Jumping through the window on the other side of the building wouldn't exactly be inconspicuous, would it," Darkshift asked sardonically. She knew the answer to that one. Crash bang followed by yelling and every single one of the patrons in the shop pointing at them, the culprits. Maybe they could escape the META or maybe not. Besides, weren't they supposed to get more aggressive the more aggressive their quarry got? That was the very last thing she wanted.
"So, any bright ideas?" Because she was just about out of them.
The coat was far from a perfect disguise but at least it served to hide the blood that was covering his body. Besides, she didn't plan on taking him out into public where others risks potentially seeing him. They had enough problems as it was without risking a second confrontation. Not only was she hurt, but she wasn't at all certain that his psyche could deal with the stress. New to his powers was the first thing that came to mind, but now was not the time to have that conversation.
"I wish we had met in better circumstances, Tyson," Darkshift spoke in low tones, keeping a watching eye out four anyone nearby that might spot them. "We're going to stick to the alleyways, it's a little bit longer but there's far less risk of being seen." The words were spoken as much to keep her own mind focused as it was to hold the focus of the one following her. She halted him with a hand up once as she spotted a homeless person who fortunately wandered off shortly thereafter. "Its not far." Hopefully she hadn't misjudged Aura or the safety of Sanctuary.
A quick assessment of her should proved the wound to be minor. She had a first aid kit at home for just such an occasion. The sound of sirens got louder but she wasn't concerned; she knew these alleys like she knew the back of her hand and she wasn't easy to spot in the darkness. Of course, there was still some irritation at the cowardly flight of the other mutant, but no point in dwelling on what couldn't be changed. For the moment, at any rate. One day they might meet again and on that day they'd see how forgiving she was feeling. For now, home and a long, hot bath.
Darkshift was pretty sure she was getting through to him, as the look in his eyes started to clear, just a little bit. The words he spoke, garbled as they were, reassured her further of this. "I think I've got a place we can go. We'll be safe there and you'll be able to clean up." Aura had told her that she could come to Sanctuary at any time, no matter what. Up until now she hadn't had the need to do so, but she was pretty sure this qualified as one of those 'no matter what' type situations. Of course, her own little bachelor might be safe too but no matter what words she spoke, the wolf man was dangerous and she wasn't comfortable bringing a potentially dangerous mutant into her home.
"You're right though, even if we stick to the back alleys, all the blood might be a problem." With a thought, scales melted into fur and her panther's head melted back into her usual pale human head. The fur stopped at the base of her neck and ends of her wrists, allowing her to mostly pass for human. She claws remained because they weren't nearly out of danger yet.
Darkshift took off her trenchcoat and handed it over to the wolf man. Underneath she wore a black long sleeved shirt and black pants and her fur could only be seen at the ends of the sleeves. "It'll be a bit small for you but it'll hide the worse of the blood. I'm afraid I don't have anything to hide your head. I'm Darkshift, by the way."
