The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mars had been deep in thought and concentration for quite some time, he was working and willing the void into being he was studying and studying and failing again and again. he was still trying to master it. It was Ridiculous! He had the only person who could operate the void with ease in his head for two solid weeks, Abyss was no help at all when it came to explaining from out side or inside. Apparently it was too easy, so easy that he couldn't convey how to do it beyond. "Just open it."
he had loved being able to separate himself from the others for days at a time and he was happy none of them wanted back in until he had better control. he had to listen to their nonsense and boredom for two weeks and it was just like before the void was discovered.those dark days of listening to abyss suffer, from the deepths of his mind, unable to help defend him or free him, it had been years that they were stuck there.
but he had been free for two weeks. It was a blessing.
The day after their date Mars found a note saying that if she wasn’t back in a month call this number, so of course he went to a traceless phone and called the number…It was Jacen’s…He had guessed that the date went a whole lot worse then he thought it had. But a month was finally closing so he called the number and got no answer. So, he left what felt like a pathetic message.
“Hey, This is Mars, I know this is a bit awkward but I got a note from Lori asking me to contact this number if I hadn’t seen her in a month…I haven’t . Give me a call back if you want to Lori. Jacen, if you don’t know where she is please give me a call. I am pretty concerned…if you ever cared for her. at least give me that. I know it’s asking a lot………………….bye.”
He decided to drive to the park, see if she was there or maybe her family would be able to give him a lead. He was furious before he even got out of the Jeep, the door was wide open, the few things that were in the house were in the yard…. His fists clenched and his knuckles cracked. He stormed into the house hoping that He would find those who did this still in the act. No one…nothing. No notes here, he looked every where. Why would she force him to contact Jacen, that self absorbed ass.
He knocked on a neighbors door and a woman in a night dress came to the door, a baby on one hip an alcoholic beverage in the other, for the first in a long time the person didn’t look shocked or even surprised to see a seven foot Bright red man with a long monkeyish tail twitching about behind him.
“You see what happened over there?” he motioned his thumb over his shoulder toward the abandoned trailer.
She replied with a smirk “I saw what happened a few weeks ago with you and that hussy of a blond and that other fella. I don’t like my kids being educated like that, I tell ya what.”
Mars was not in a patient mood he without thought was making a rumbling growl and gritting his teeth. He was absently aware that this sent the other wise uninterested baby into a crying fit.
“I want to know when and how that happened.”
She seemed to finally notice that he was only standing on the first step and looking her in the eye and that he might not fit through their front door even if he ducked and turned sideways sucking in…but he could certainly widen the door way.
“a few fellas made a mess of the place, that other fella had a fight with them not to long ago. He ran they started shooting. Couldn’t have been a few hours ago.”
Hours ago…
“Thank you, I honestly appreciate it.” Mars reached into his pocket and pulled out a roll of twenties. And handed it to her. this is enough to start something better for your kids, if you use it right.”
She looked at him in awe, like he was golden and not bright red... She took a breathe. " I won't tell no one you were here mister."
"actually tell them I was, send them to the sanctuary if they have questions for me."
He went into the yard and looked for a picture of Lori…He couldn’t find one of her, but her mother held such a resemblance that he could ask someone if they saw her and if they had seen Lori they would point him to her. He folded the picture up to make it show only her.
He made a call to the sanctuary and sent some of his favorite thugs to clean up Lori’s place and hang out for anybody else that came by. They were to clear out of the house if anyone in the picture showed up and then hang out in the yard. The three he sent were dangerous but tame enough to know better then to cross him.
“ Pick up the *************************** phone. I am going to call one more time, don’t force my hand on this. I have thought about our last exchange and I promise you the advantage you had isn’t there any more. I will find you, and you will tell me what I want to know.”
He then turned got into the jeep and took off. Could he remember Jacen’s license plate? Henry The 8th Killed 6 Wives. HT8 K6W…could that have been it? He shook his head at himself, he was such a freak. If he could track the plates, he could track the owner and track the apartment. Jacen was obviously concerned…Was he angry about her disappearance or not being the one that was preferred to chase her?
He drove like Mercury to get back to the sanctuary, He went to Jupiters room and geared up. He typically didn’t like toting weapons, but he liked fighting Jacen even less. He threw on a giant leather coat and then grabbed a helmet. He then went to his room and flicked on his computer and started searching… trying to track Lori was like chasing someone who didn’t exsist…as if he hadn’t tried to get a clue before the month was up He had even found out where her original birth certificate was held…he kept that in his back pocket to answer a curious question. So far he was getting thrown road blocks that came with being with the government. Jacen wouldn’t be tracked either.
He sighed and looked as his cell phone. He knew one more thing he could do to try to track her but it was a desperate measure.
I stand there at the construction site, its desolate and nearly silent. Its midnight and the only light is from some neon luminescents from a near-by rundown pool hall. Almost silent you asked. well there is a large piece of machinery running, A dark haired vixen in the seat, I watch the Bright pink bubble gum sphere slowly raise on a chain like a roller coaster climbing the first big hill. My eyes flick back and forth, from operator to the bright red jawbreaker. the operator and the orange everlasting gobstopper. The twenty ton sphere reaches its zenith. it hangs there waiting. My eyes fall on the Female.
I did buy the tickets, I made the contacts, I set up this show. I give the nod. she hesitates, but then cranks the lever with enthusiasm.
I'm wearing a dark suit, my best. My hair is cut short or I would have spiked it. my nails are trimmed and manicured. something I do out of habit, when I want to look my best. it burns time and calms my nerves. My brown eyes flecked with green are dilated as I stare at her. the wrecking ball swings, whistling as it plummets.
The arch catches and it comes toward me like blissful escape. I am a building that is not needed anymore. a vase heading toward the floor. A pane of glass staring at a pop fly sent from the vacant lot where the kids play next door.
I bite my lip.
Pop
The sound of a woman blowing a piece of bubblegum until it bursts. it gets on her face.
The wrecking ball hits its mark.
Oblivian!
dust every where.
the man in the suit? gone.
dust, in the wind.
A gust
a gasp of air.
something new.
A man in a suit, sitting on a bench, brown and green flecked eyes, taking in the morning dew on a spring flower, fighting for survival in the summer heat.
"I give up. You'd better tell me your middle name before I go bonkers and claw someone's eyes out."
He offered Lori his skewer so she could snap one too. The pout didn’t make it to her lips but it made it to her eyes, He was just trying to help.
He let out a small laugh while wondering if his eyes would be in any imminent anger.. “The.”
He then explained to make it clear he had just told her.
“Alexander the great, Atilla the hun, Vlad the impaler, Ivan the terrible. The milky way, the big dipper…” He waited for her reaction, or for her to call him lame, something, she was the first that had heard all of it and he was pretty sure he would get a negative reaction in some way, paticularly since he had made her ask.
"It's no longer living so in theory it's edible." "
“In theory.” That made him glance at others around him who were eating it and seemingly enjoying it, so he manned up and ate.
"If it were more spicy or maybe if the sauce was less thick..."
He nodded “ I can’t figure it out either.Just that it could use something” his typical answer to bad asain food was a good bathe in sodium, in the form of soy sauce. He liked soy sauce.
“Perhaps we should move on to number three? Though if we find it picked at stall one we might want to save our selves the walk.”
Mars nodded to her assessment, “I am reluctant still to help a warm trash bag to go down smoothly, Perhaps we can find a couple of Tsingtao.” He repeated the word carefully, perfecting the pronunciation slowly and surely to make sure he had it. “ As he rose taking her plate and tossing it for her when she was ready. As they went toward the next arrow he looked at her fondly, he didn’t snatch up her hand this time wondering if she would offer up such affection.
They made a little distance before he commented bit more harshly. “well theoretically we survived. If this going to become a pattern maybe we should run away while we can.” It was just as he said that sentence that the most fantastic smell came from the general direction of stop 3. He was pretty sure that Pho was a Korean or Thai dish but he wasn’t at all disappointed to see it. Beef flank and rice noodles bathed in herbs and bean sprouts, cilantro and sunflowers. “never mind.” He said quietly, relinquishing his retreat.
He had a hunch that she wouldn't recognize a game boy, so it didn't surprise him, He had grew up in a similar situation where you played games in your head since the typically kept the cells empty of objects, particularly when you were dangerous all by yourself. So, He would teach her the wonders of the portable hand held.
He handed her the wrapped box and then poured out the other games which were wrapped. " Open them up and I'll show you first hand."
I only wish I could do more for our kind. Since being recruited I have spoken to the director briefly but have not, as of yet, actually been given any tasks to accomplish to help our cause. Not that I mind doing what I can on my own, of course, and would do so regardless but I only wish to be able to do more."
“The time is coming when we will seem to spring into action, I am actually planning a speech at the moment, we have in the past shut down anti mutant rallies, but I think it is overdue that we had a pro mutant one instead, draw those of us out of the shadows and make our selves more known for the better ment of our kind instead of simply making ourselves feared, it is all in the works I assure you, though if you want an immediate task I will keep you in mind.”
His hands went to her hand and elbow.
"Its made from titanium, among the strongest and lightest of metals. I've found it to be the most versatile, given its price and all of its properties. I carved and forged it myself, as with all of my flesh melds."
“You are more and more Impressive by the moment, I think we will have to keep you meld.” He spoke as he appreciated the details of her work and then he released her from inspection.
"I think I might like one of those,"
“I would be intrigued to see what you come up with, though again if I can be of service I would be glad to be. I f you are going to do it I would actually recommend start at the top of you spine, perhaps protect the spinal cord and extend from there, that is how mine works and it works well enough. hmmm” He was always curious about the details and was making a lot of assuptions with hers. “Atleast if that is a possibility. I wonder if Isabel could help you by extending your spine…give you more to work with.”
"I'm not really sure that there is. I come out here to train most nights and I'm still getting used to the new arm. Besides, I wouldn't want to hurt you."
“Hmmm, not to be boastful but I am pretty sturdy and I certainly can take a hit, I don’t doubt you a dangerous, I can see the predator in the way move…it just that. Well.” He glanced at a boulder off to the left and struck it with his tail and sent the stone tumbling throw the park like a bowling ball down a lane. “ though all the strength in the world isn’t going to stop me from being cut to ribbons with those spikes, eh?” he wasn’t sure if he was being generous, but he didn’t want to hurt her pride and he was offering help not a challenge. Hmmm perhaps we could go find this thunder dome I have been hearing about apparently there is a mutant arena some where about new York. Practice on those foolish enough to get the way.”
He glanced at her and one of the corners rose as if taunting her denial and avoidance.
"Hard to go wrong here. You're right.”
He replied with a simple Mmmm. He would have bought another if it hadn’t been for the fact that they would be hiking around town eating.
"If you so please. Maybe we could even see Venus or Mars... are they not low this time of year?"
if you so please he could get used to that.
“Actually, I was speaking about Mars, My middle isn’t in the heavens, and then again it could be all over it really.” He was enjoying this cat and mouse game of riddles. She would catch on at some point until then though he would toy with it.”
Mars glanced at what Lori was doing and stuck the little twig of a skewer and put it in the bow of his pinky and flexed the little stick shattered. He raised an eyebrow but didn’t look at her to see his reaction; he half expected a little zap of annoyance coming his way or the sticks. He held up a two again and handed the man a five dollar bill and came back with two thin paper plates topped with something that smelled better then the area…kind of. apparently this little mystery on a plate was worthy of chop sticks. A moment ago showing off now had him wondering if he could separate the stick with out tearing them in half, they took just enough effort to put them In danger. He pulled and slowly added slightly more strength one chopstick ended up with having the others top so he just snapped off both and put it on the table. He looked at Lori warily. And then took a pinch of the meat hidden in noodles, it was kind of spicy almost General Tso ish, but there was something else to it too, not bad. not necessarily good, he finished his in spite of it.
He wondered if anyone had ever taken her to the observertory at night? It was a bit of a drive to get to from here to there but the atmosphere was worth it, it was very Greek, perhaps that’s how he felt with her, greek but still allowed his passions, they were a very indulgent people and as humans were indulgent, well they seemed very natural to him, besides they totted their mutants as children of the gods.
“Have you ever tried Saki?” he asked he kind of felt like he needed something to wash that done with and maybe kill any harmful remnants that it left.
"My human birth name is nothing but a reminder of a human life that means nothing to me now. I am a mutant, not a human and see no reason to try to delude myself into believing otherwise."
"I see we recruited well, with you." If she wanted his approval she had right then, the words were spoken from his own heart.
"I have seen such mutants myself and while fascinating her their own right I do not believe they share the same...understanding of human and mutant nature as those of us who must live with our differences every moment of every day. My mutation is, however, a little different than most I think since I have chosen to look as I do. The visibility is the price I pay in order to work towards physical perfection."
"Well teh nI commend you all the more, some would be inclined to hamper their gift with more subtle augmentation." his fingers reached to touch her ner arm. " May I?" He wanted to examine her arm a bit closer.
"I'm sorry about that. I hope you don't mind my asking,, but what are the capabilities of your tail? Can you use it as a sort of extra limb? What about hanging from trees like a monkey? Or does it only work to help balance? Is it equal strength to your other limbs?"
The chuckled lightly. " no worries, ask for curiosity and you get it. My Tail is actually in a lot of instances more valuable then my arms or even legs, most don't think to guard against, it is a bit quicker. much more flexible and it sacrafices very little strength I haven't ever really though about the balance aspect but yes, I am sure that it improves my balance as well as far as climbing trees and hanging I could manage with it." truth be told he loved to climb trees when he was younger but trees didn't hold up like they used to.
"This is where I do most of my training. Its quiet here and a little closer to nature which helps me focus better. That, and being away from prying human eyes is a benefit as well. Still getting used to the new arm."
"its peaceful" he said, he definitely thought the park improved with night, most of those that were out at this hour were either too devious to bother with a dangerous pair like them, "Anything I can help with?"

"I prefer to go by the name Meld if you don't mind,"
"Meld,it is, I like that. My mistake, I wasn't sure if you were one of those that clung to your human birth name."
"It is a pleasure to meet you and I must admit I have been a little curious about you for some time. There do not seem to be many with more...visible mutations that I, myself, posses."
"I am sure the pleasure is all mine, and feel free to ask questions as you please. I indulge curiosity when it is just that, You I am sure, can relate. Though as for eye catching mutations I have seen those that have us beat. though they, typically have the ability to turn it off."
He shrugged as he walked forward, he was sure to use his least intimidating posture, which meant palms forward and slow deliberate movements. " Though it helps to have a Tail too." he said as he wiglledd the long and quick limb.
From what he had heard about the woman she was another new easily dedicated member, many found their accepting family and clung to with dear life, something he related with.
" I to be completely honest have been curious about you and seized the opportunity to see what you were all about. A bit of training in the park, away from the usual prying eyes no less?"
Jupiter lifted the bags and filled most of the room. " Would you like some help with these, birthday girl? organizing them any way, I am terrible at puzzles. also I'd like to show you how to work your game boy. I hope black was ok?"
He held up a box that had a black DSI in it. and the rest of the bag held most of the puzzle games the system had to offer. He smiled at her, the room was pretty plain, but he know pictured the walls covered in puzzles and more hanging from the ceiling. it would be neat. He would however be checking on her to make sure she remembered to eat and what not.
Abyss was in a odd mood, ever since Mars had taken over on VOid duty, he was feeling a bit care free, but he still had to attend his Order and there was a member or two he still had to get to know, He was hardly stalking her, as he was a bout as stealthy as a rhino in a library. but he had managed to follow the young woman without disturbing her on her way to central. He was intrigued by her and was even more curious about what she was up to. but wheather it was a random robbery or a simple jogging expedition she would be observed and perhaps later on talked to, when she began to practice he leaned against a not to far away tree. He was still in awe that he had managed to not get her attention, but then perhaps she had other things on her mind.
As she tried her Climbing stunt he couldn't help but let his presence be known , besides he thought she might find him creepy if he stalked her any longer, he was feeling a bit creepy after all. He clapped lightly as she struck a dangerously feral pose.
"I must say Ms. Callin you are impressive." He took a few steps to show himself a bit more, away from the dark shadows from under the tree. "I am Abyss, and we have yet to get a chance to talk."
"A hairbrush! she dislikes him for a hairbrush..."Abyss let out a heavy Sigh. " Yeah we will be fine by the time a month rolls around. She will get over it." he sounded pretty darn sure about that too.
Abyss looked at him again, "You let me know if you need anything until then, even if things aren't straitend out with the order and kabal, I am all for it."
____
Mars shook his head at the young man who Just might be Mercury's and pluto new favorite super hero. "Well, I will leave you three to discuss what is needed to make a proper replica of a poketman." oh he knew good and well that he pronopunced it wrong, just as he intended it to.
He wondered off to get his book out of the pile of things that they brought. He then changed his mind and decided to get that kite in the air.
The young woman nodded sheepishly., and then opened a drawer, she lifted on a latch and the drawer had a false bottom , she handed the woman in lead the manila folder and said quietly. " I was saving some of this stuff for a bad work day but, I think that I'd rather have you three happy with me then him. "which was saying a lot, the man behind the door was no pushover. " If you wanted to get him to throw a raise my way, I'll keep tabs on him for you?" the woman wasn't sure if she was over stepping her bounds, but she felt a bit kindred with the three demanding young woman, She was just another pretty young woman trying to get ahead.
Strybome putted the Day away blissfully oblivious to the oncoming bad, bad bad day. by the end of it he would hardly be able to blame his leggy assistant for trembling before the three woman that were on their way.
~~"And who would blame you if we're talking spirits. I was just thinking everyday equivalents to iced tea. You're more likely to find cold beer in my fridge is all."
“Ah, well in that case, nothing wrong with a good draft , I suppose.” Mars replied easily.
~~"It sounds like you didn't follow the crummy name rule for you middle name."
“Oh sure I did. I am sure if someone else had given me the name I would find it nearly as amusing.”
~~"Civility has its place as does muscle." "Often silence does quite a bit of talking for you, though, as far as intimidation goes at least”
“That is true enough, I’ve been told that smashing things that normally don’t get smashed works as well.” Jupiter was telling him right now in fact, but he was going to do his best not to remind his date that there were six would be voyuer’s along, the only one he might pay any attention to at all is Venus and even he wasn’t all that great for his end game where Lori was concerned.
~~"Lucky me, flies are more easily caught with honey."
“Have I been caught with the honey, dear?”
~~"You'd be surprised how very often I actually can behave myself. It's appalling really."
“Behaving is overated most of the time, but then we have a very unique way of misbehaving I think.”
Mars eventually moved another car into a no parking zone and then moved the jeep into the spot, they still had to walk a bit. But it was an interesting part of the City.
Mars broke a twenty right off, might as well get it started, Abyss and all the clones liked to carry around a significant amount of pocket change, with the exception of mercury who carried only his magical credit card that caused him not to need, money. Ah the wonderland that eccentrics. He held a pair of fingers out to the vender and then got his change, handing a stick to Lori.
“They are smart to ease us into it. A simple dumpling is a good way to do it. “
He reached down and took Lori’s free hand in his and looked to where the next arrow pointed, hmmmm, how much did he really know about this woman? and how much would she let him know? Perhaps tonight was time to get to know her a bit more, he knew about her, and he knew about her, but he couldn’t really say he knew her for who she really was. She shied away from that sort of intimacy and he craved it from her, he wasn’t sure if it was that particular hard to get, that drew him to her like a moth to a bright blue bug zapper, or if it was that he didn’t’ know enough and wanted to know more, he leaned toward the more legitimate fact that he thought she was worth knowing and he would weave his way in through her defenses all in good time.
“So, I think tonight has some potential. Maybe we could hit the art district after this? You can see my namesake tonight at the observatory, if you want to?”
