The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>"Thank you, so much. Hopefully I hear from her. I don't want to put you out."
Richard smiled. "That is fine, I have a few friends who tend to be a little spontaneous with their schedule, which is a kind way of saying scatterbrained." He chuckled. "Often when I set out, I am never sure if one or a few of my work mates will be coming or not so I bring at least one spare set of gear. Not only are they spontaneous but also last minute. So don't worry about putting me out, I am enjoying the company so far. I do hope she is ok though."
It looked like Charlotte was indeed not dressed for spending the night out doors. Richard was glad that he had started the fire. It had seemed a little indulgent at the time as it was only himself but he was glad that it seemed to offer warmth and cheer Charlotte up.He also surmised that she was a city girl. He looked up at the starts with her and quietly said. "It is beautiful isn't it, it strikes me every time."
>"I'll only take a little, though."
"Nonsense, Charlotte, here you are not exactly dressed for spending the night outdoors and you are worried about "putting me out"? Come." Richard promptly set about serving the food. There was some flank steak, sausages, mushrooms stuffed with pesto and grilled zucchini. All hot and fresh. "Can I get you something hot?" he asked indicating the Jetboil that was beginning to boil.
>"So, what brings you out here?"
"I come here now and then to get away. At work I am surrounded by technology and the demands of work and schedules and all that. So I come out to the wilderness to relax, unwind, take my mind off work and the stresses of life." He smiled. He made no mention that one of the reasons that he enjoyed nature was because no technology. Nothing that he could accidentally brush up against while feeling curious and inquisitive and suddenly experience a huge data dump that would send his mind reeling. He wondered if Charlotte was a mutant herself but wondered if it would be impolite to ask. "What do you do to get away or take your mind off things?" Richard asked. Charlotte was rather beautiful, especially lit by the firelight as she was.

Richard at times wondered how he appeared to other people. He had a hard time telling what others thought of him. He looked Asian, and climbed regularly and led an active life. he would never consider himself handsome nor handsome but he liked how he looked. To be honest he did not give that much thought although he always dressed so as to be professional, presentable and if possible "smart".
>"Hi..Richard. I'm Charlotte. I was supposed to go glamping-"
Glamping.... Richard rolled the word around in his mind. His look of confusion and raised eyebrow must have shown (Richard did have a great set of expressive eyebrows, well he thought that but would never admit it to anyone) as Charlotte hastened to clarify.
>"I was supposed to go camping with my friend, but I think I'm lost.. or gave me wrong directions. I know it's an inconvenience, but would you mind if I stayed her for a bit? Just until I hear from my friend?"
Richard smiled. Here in the middle of nowhere a rather attractive lady stumbled into his camp and essentially played the damsel in distress. Richard caught the Oh-So-Innocent smile for what it was, but in this case he was happy to oblige. Never turn down attractive and potentially pleasant company.
"Of course. Umm if you don't hear from your friend you are welcome to use the tent and sleeping bag. I have a spare bag in the car. Besides it is a nice night to sleep under the stars." Richard was thankful that it was not a cloudy night and that it was not forecast to rain. Besides all the higher chance that he would get to see the sunrise, that glow when the first rays of the sun hit the tops of the mountains, setting them ablaze with glorious light (Alpine Glow). That....that moment was magical. Returning to the present he motioned to Charlotte. "Come grab a stump" he said gesturing to a numb er of tree stumps/Logs lying around. "Have you eaten? I always cook too much and it should be done in a few minutes." Said Richard scooting his log over so as to make room for Charlotte by the fire. Perhaps then he could get a closer look at the siloute that might share this campsite for the night.

By this time there were indeed a row or so of prototypes, a few heads, an elbow, two or three hands, a few legs. Each made with different materials with varying properties of varying thicknesses. For each of the prototyles was surrounded by a privacy curtain so that only the prototype protruded. This was inas case any of the air elementals had a wardrob e malfunction while testing. Richrd was no expert on air elementals but did not want a potential repeat of his encounter with Maya. Maya, Ghost, the random person whom he had met in a random encounter that had spawned this glorious endevor, this thrilling adventure. Richard honestly did not know if they would succeed or not, but by God they would put 100% into it and see how far it would take them.
Richard wasw duly paged and arrived to take charge of a group of people he had never met before as well as a rather white faced Maya. As he led the group to the testing area he quietly asked Maya. "Is everything alright?". When the group reached the fenced off area now protected by security guards, Richard handed each of them a clipboard and explained to them about testing the various prototypes and giving feed back. Truth be told he was feeling drunk with wearness. The last 4 days had been a whirlwind of suggesting software changes and downloading information about the hardware of different companies and meetings with engineers as to how to make it all play nice together. "..So ladies and gentlemen thank you all very much for coming, and.. well Have at it." He finished

Richard was letting his mind wander, he enjoyed looking at the stars. he liked to get away once in a while to places where there was no technology. He was.... at peace. Something tugged on the edge of his consciousness. A breaking of branches, the sound of things being dragged through the forest that were never designed to traverse said terrain. Thinks like luggage. Then as if to fully jar him from his happy contemplation a decidedly female voice rang out. It was a nice voice, and would have been pleasant to the ear if it had not been being used as a wining tool at the time.
>"Betttttyyyyyyy! There is nothing glamorous about this! Oh. You're not Betty.."
Richard rose to his feet. His hands in his pockets, it was a sort of awkward moment. "Umm, Hi, I am Richard. Can I help you?"
Richard said as he observed this newcomer. Well whatever she was, apparently adventurous was not one of them. Her attire and the state of her attire spoke to that. He wondered why she was here. He wondered what she was like. Richard enjoyed meeting people, there were always things you could learn and stories to hear if one asked the right questions.

Richard needed a break. The company he worked fro, Firebird Industries, had just been sold off suddenly to a new company called Jagger Worldwide and there were rumors of jobs being cut and "reorganization" etc. Richard was also tired of fighting bureaucratic red tape. Getting approval and authorization for funding and materials to continue developing his new munitions design (think bullet that turns into a small shrapnel bomb on impact and can be laced with chemicals) was taking so long he was almost thinking of trying to build prototypes in his garage. Furthermore, he had a number of ideas for new microelectronics that he almost knew would not get approved just because the person doing the approval disliked Richard for some reason. Personally Richard thought that being able to create devices that were that compact and with such a low power consumption while offering significant computational and processing power was a good thing, and with better control of his mutation he was starting to be able to design increasingly intricate, complex and powerful designs. What he needed was a programmer, one who could help him write drivers (low level) and high level software and give him feedback. He had requested one months ago, but again his application seemed to have been conveniently lost or overlooked or forgotten that Richard was ready to throw up his hands in frustration and stop making innovative proposals altogether, well at least at work. He would probably still create and build things but he would patient them himself. Annnyhow Richard had decided to cash in some of his leave and go car camping in a forest. He had found a nice spot next to a small fast flowing creek where the ground was soft. There was already a nice indented fire pit there and Richard had brought his hibachi. After putting up his tent he first started a fire in the fire pit for warmth and light then began grilling sausages, pesto mushrooms and flank steak on the hibachi. While waiting for the food to cook, having set a timer, Richard lay back on a blanket and contemplated the beauty of the stars above him. He was so lost in thought that he did not hear the sounds of someone approaching.

The zombie duo duly reached the kitchen and soon the water was boiling and coffee was made. Richard sighed with contentment as he peered at Margo through the delectable smelling steam that drifted and wafted from the large mug of coffee in his hand. Margo had secured her own preferred source of caffeine and for a while there was silence in the Bent household, broken on by the sounds of sipping and the contented sighs of people waking up.
"Right let's set about making this breakfast shall we?" said Richard as he pushed up his sleeves and started making food. The smell of frying bacon and the sound of sizzling sausages soon filled the house and stared to play a symphony to the senses. This sensual serenade was soon joined by both the sound and smell of mushrooms being fried with diced onion and browned in a healthy (or perhaps not so healthy) amount of butter. Toast was duly made and popped in the toast rack (yes that is a British thing). Breakfast it seemed was well and truly underway, and it was going to be a feast.

> "One per mutant is fine, Only so many of their mutants have dangerous, combat-optimized abilities, and those are the ones I'm worried about. I'm also not interested in being able to neutralize mutants who won't be dangerous to me, and by that I mean most telepaths and ones utilizing immediately fatal force. These are the mutants I'm most worried about. See if you can recognize any for now, and I'll provide dossiers for those that you need them for. If you don't know any, that's fine too."
Richard duly accpeted the files. He was happy that Danny was only interested in defending against mutants that were a threat to him. And his intention was to create defences against them and not to attack them or hunt them down. It made Richard feel better.
"I am sorry but I don't know any of these mutants. Although I can see why you would want to take precautions against them. I already have a few ideas."
By the time Richard finished reading the dossiers they had reached the warehouse. Richard duly noted the security measures, the thermal & optical cameras that looked as if they had been recently installed. He was struck by the size of the building and as he was ushered into the interior and observed the size and scale of what was happening he once again wondered if there was more going on that he knew about or met the eye at Firebird industries.
>"So, what would you like to see first?"
"Umm, to be honest I would not know where to start, lead on sir." Richard was a little overwhelmed by said facilities and looked forward to learning more about his soon to be workplace.

Richard was rewarded with a rather cute and endearing "Ack!" but then again brothers were allowed to mess up their sister's hear and be slightly annoying now and then right? He was pleasantly surprised when Margo gave him a hug. She did not seem the touchy feely sort. He would have to work on that.
>"Yeah, thanks. You? I would have woken you up to see the sunrise, but I thought you needed your rest. Sorry?"
"That is fine Margo." Richard said smiling sleepily.
>"I promise I'll make it up to you later."
"Oh you had better." Said Richard with a twinkle in his eye. He proceeded to sleepily try to tickle her. Then turned and walked in an exaggerated zombie like fashion towards the kitchen, all the while murmuring "Coffeee....Teaeeeee" like the zombies do in the game Plants and Zombies (yes that is a real game, try it)

Richard looked up to find Melissa walking towards him. He was taken aback for a minute. She looked stunning and rather elegant in her knee length black skirt and white T-shirt.Richard wondered if he was underdressed in his nice jeans, gray patterned T and cotton unbuttoned shirt. He almost felt a little self concious. He rose to greet her.
"Melissa, thanks for coming, you look stunning, I feel a little underdressed." He smiled and paused, was he being awkward? Possibly, was he over thinking things, probably.Mentally he shooed the introspective inner voice back into a corner. He had asked to meet for dinner a) because he had nothing else planned. b) He was in a strange city, feeling a little alone and mroe than ready to meet new friends. c) One of his joys in life was meeting and getting to know new people and d) He was feeling slightly impulsive and wanted to know more about the city from a pro and who better to ask than someone who worked there, a bartender no less. He was looking for friends first and foremost, but then again, he was open to... whatever might come his way.
"So..... where to?" He asked. Richard was at ease with himself, he did not think of himself as handsome but he liked how he looked. He did not think of himself as special but liked who he was and was at peace with it. This tended to make people feel at ease around him. he wondered where melissa would take him.

Hades
A few days had passed since "The Project", as it had come to be known as had started. a few very very busy days. Upon doing somme research Richard had found that Maya was not the only aeromancer with that same problem there were a number of them and as is often the case nowadays with the advancement of the internet, they had formed a group. Needless to say the group had welcomed the idea with enthusiasm and a number of aeromancers both male and female were flying down to the tech convention.
Progress wise they had printed some crude prototypes of a hand with various materials that contained voids, but these were more for dialing in the printers and parameters than anything else. Although It would be good to get Maya's feed back on them. The companies helping out with this project had welcomed it with open arms and enthusiastically allocated more resources to the cause. Soon they would have enough people from each sector to essentially work around the clock. In the middle of all this maelstrom of activity Richard was hard at work. He had become the de-facto manager of the project and thanks to his abilities and his sharp mind there was more than enough work to keep him busy from morning till evening. Still one had to make time for the press. Soon Richard was facing a wall of microphones and being barraged by waves of flashes from cameras.
"As some of you may have heard a number of days ago a person in need presented us with a request. Would it be possible to create or build a body for an aeromancer in need. An aeromancer is the term for a mutant that can control air. For a growing number of aeromancers, there is a possibility for their X-gene to become unstable. I am no geneticist so don't quote me on this but apparently, as this illness progresses, it becomes progressively harder for the aeromancer to remain, well, solid. As the condition becomes more advanced the aeromancer eventually turns incorporeal and... ceases to be. There is no known cure for this condition. The challenge was put forth and a number of companies responded." Richard paused and indicated the display board behind him upon which the names of the various companies were boldly printed. "The challenge is to create at least a working prototype by the end of the conference in 3 weeks time. So that is the first reason for this challenge. The second is that there is considerable interest from the movie sector for the creation of suits that can be animated by aeromancers to help reduce costs of digital animation. I have time for a few questions." Microphones like lances were thrust forward with increasing vigor and it was as though a tidal wave of noise was suddenly unleashed. Richard immediately help his hand up and waited for the noise to die down. "Please, ladies and gentleman, one at a time or I will have to bring this meeting to a close". This time there was a little more order, a little. The managers of the venue stepped in and soon there was something approaching an orderly queue of questions being fired Richard's way which he did his best to answer. >"Was the person who met with you called Maya? Were you aware that she is involved in a government investigation? Does that change your view on this project?"
"Firstly I thought it was one question only so my answer to you madam will be brief. Yes her name was Maya, no I was not aware of the fact. Finally, our goal is to help people who are in need regardless of where they are at. The same way you would not deny a wheel chair to one who could not walk for any reason. Next."
"Just what is so challenging about this project?"
"I wont bore you with all the specifics of the project, suffice to say that we are planning to 3D print a body essentially out of what we call polymer alloys. To 3D print something human size has been done before but with traditional materials like metal. To print with more than one material has also been done before, not so long ago a company 3D printed a shoe from 3 different materials, a durable plastic for the outer sole, a softer material for the inner sole and a rubber like material for the body of the shoe. As you all know the composition off the human body is vastly more complex. The polymer mix that would work for say the eyelids would be very different from that needed for say the knee. In fact there are so many variations in this one job that we are attempting to combine cutting edge technology from a number of companies and do what no one has tried before. We are attempting to create and mix polymer alloys of different composition on the fly and use them to create a truly multi-material structure. Another challenge is that it must be light enough so that it can easily be moved by an aeromancer yet stiff enough to retain structural integrity when the aeromancer exits the suit. I hope that answers your question."
"What about patents?"
"An agreement has been signed granting the right of usage to all companies involved, as to final ownership of the final patents that will be up for discussion, although join ownership is very much an option."
"What do you get out of it?"
"Excuse me? Come again?" Richard wore a puzzled expression on his face.
"DisCom gets to try out their new distributed computing algorithms, AcuPrint gets to show off their touted high precision printers, PolyMat get to design and tailor make the "Polymer Alloys" as you call them, I could go on. But you work for Firebird Industries, a weapons company, so what is in it for you and/or your company?"
The noise level diminished rather dramatically at this question. It was as though those in attendance partially wanted to say "How dare you ask such a question?" yet at the same time were very interested in his answer.
"It is true, I am currently employed at Firebird Industries, who among other things do manufacture weapons for law enforcement and the military, we also build armored transport vehicles, protective vest and armor and secure communication hardware. To answer your question, currently there is no direct benefit for my company. Although I am getting to know many potential business partners for the future. I am actually here on unclaimed vacation time with the blessing of my company. In my line of work, I design protective equipment that saves lives. I am told that last year our products saved many lives, the lives of people that in all honesty I will probably never meet. This however is an opportunity, not only to push the boundaries of what has been done but also to help improve the lives of one person or a few people who are actually on their way here from all over the country and some from overseas. I get to meet them, work with them and hopefully improve their lives. To me, that is reward enough."
Richard glanced at the clock. "Alright people, that is all we have time for today. Thank you for coming. If you have more questions you were all provided with an email address. There should also be another press release scheduled. We will try to keep you all posted." He had barely left when his phone started vibrating.
>"Is there anything I can do besides field questions?"
"Maya, good to hear from you again, actually yes, we have a number of test parts we would like your input on. Let me know when it would be convenient for you. The guards have you on their list, when you show up grab a badge and you can walk straight in. I hope the press have not been too vicious on you."

Richard yawned and stretched some small notice had woken him, or was it a breeze. It took him a moment to orient himself that he was not in his room. Sleepily he reflected that with the time he took to wake he would never make it in the military. Not that he was ever inclined to be a fighting man but still if he had the skill of waking up instantly it would be rather useful. But he was just being wistful.
Richard looked over from where he was nestled to the other sofa bed. It was empty. He wondered where Margo was. Margo. That name triggered a recall of all the events of last night and a smile involuntarily lit up his face. Yesterday was amazing. There was no other word for it. He felt... loved? or was he being too hasty. Regardless he would enjoy and delight in every moment, every second of it while it lasted, if it lasted? He shook his head. He was still waking up. A happy time as this, there was no place for thoughts of ending, not when the beginning was just .... starting. He needed coffee. He smiled to himself. Groggily he roused himself from his warm cocoon of a bed and went to put the kettle on. That was when he saw her. Margo was perched on his balcony. That spot would always make him smile. He padded up to her and gently tousled her hair. Sleepily mumbling "Morning sis, did you sleep well?" He wondered if he was going to get tackle hugged.

>This, however, is something new. I don't think it's a solution, but it is at least something. If it brings you joy to work on it, then it would be my pleasure to work with you."
"Awesome!" He was afraid for a moment that Maya would shy away from it but now that she was a willing participant....
>"If you don't think it would be an imposition... it's not exactly a secret, so you don't have to fib if you don't want to. Either way, it could be good press for all involved."
"I agree, I think I will pitch it as both. Umm, question, how realistic do you want this to be? I think with a 2 week time frame starting from scratch, realistically we will probably end up with a prototype. During these 2 weeks a number of us will be working on the scans...so.... there is the question of how much detail your are comfortable with..." There was really no un-awkward way to bring this up.
"Anyhow do you want to give me a few days to get things together and hopefully by then we may need your input on various aspects of the design, like how stiff is too still, how porus the suit would need to be etc. Here is my card with my number and email. Oh, and Maya..... Thank you so much for sharing your situation with me and letting me help. The press will probably be involved b ut I can try to keep your name out of it if you would prefer." Just a few hours ago Richard had been randomly browsing the convention. Now there was a lady in need, not only that, but there was a challenge that Richard could engage with that would bring people together and probably generate good press for mutants as well as business for those at the convention.
Richard left the coffe shop his mind in a whirr. He grabbed his laptop out of his bag, found a place to setup and started typing emails. One was to his employer explaining what was happening and offering to use his unclaimed vacation time if necessary. Then there were emails to the convention center owners, the organizers of the Tech convention. A few to the individual stall owners and the CEO's of their companies, others to his contacts in Hollywood......
The next day he gathered a number of the stall owners together and layed out his plan. "....So the main aim of this would be to give the lady a chance at normal life" "You mean before she..." "Umm yes you could see it that way, something like last wishes that sort of thing. The other good news is that this idea seems to be a hit with Hollywood. As we all know Mutants are getting increasing employment in the movie making industry and a number of large unamed production companies are attracted to the idea of being able to design characters and have aeromancers animate them as it would save them on CGI effects. I have talked with the organizers of the convention and the centra area is ours and there will be a press conference in a few days." He paused for a sip of water before continuing. "Ladies and gentleman this is no small challenge, in two weeks we need to go from nothing to having a working prototype, there will need to be 3D detailed body scanning, Andy that will b e your department. We will need 3D printers that can do life size objects, Jason that would be you. Then we need massive multi-material print head and on-the-fly polymer mixing capabilities, Justin that would be you and Jason, I can help with the designs. We will also need to run a ton of simulations and computations, Joe that will be your department. So who is in?" There was a unamious show of hands. At the end of the meeting everyone left in a buzz of energy. Richar would take the lead on this project and that afternoon things started happening. An area was fence off, power cables were laid over the carpet. Partitions started being setup, there was the general atmosphere of energy, like the whole convention center had been dozing and was now shaking itself awake.
Word started to spread about a flash mob style challenge, a "go big or go home" style challenge that was both charitable, helping someone in need, and potentially profitable. The word spread on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other media sites. Everywhere people were asking what was going on. New reporters started circling. There was going to be a press release tomorrow. In the center of all this activity one engineer was more alive than he had potentially ever been. Directing, managing organizing. His brain that was designed to deal with large quantities of information and process them rapidly was being put to good use. Every fiber of his being felt alive....

Well someone was being a little bitter and grumpy and moany about the world though Richard. Out loud he did not say anything. Everyone was entitled to their own views. "Very well madam, I will do my best to keep my compliments to myself." Said Richard slightly smiling. If she was going to be grumpy he could be cheeky.
>"Easier than bob by pins." the lady said as she floated a ball of light into the lock and...well popped it.
"Why thank you very much." Said Richard. He stepped through the door after her and placed his hand on it. He blinked rapidly for a second or two, then his whole body tensed for another second or two then.. Click. "As good as new" Said Richard cheerfully and lead the way to the bus stop. When they were on the relatively empty but tottling its way to his house. Richard turned to the lady and asked. "Say, what should I call you? I am fine if you prefer to make up a name, it just feels a little more natural to be able to call you something instead of "hey you"." He reflected on her earlier comment as a street kid. It sounded like she had led a hard life. Perhaps that was why she was slow to trust and hand such a depressing view of life. Quietly Richard asked. "If you don't mind me asking, What is life like as a street kid?" He asked genuinely interested. He found it hard to imagine what leading such a life would be like, besides he always liked hearing other people's stories. It often gave him inspiration.

"Thank you for sharing, it means a lot to me." Said Richard, "I know that I came to a full realization of my power lat in life which in some way I think was a blessing. There is so much I still have to learn about my powers. Come lets get some hot chocolate!"
Hot chocolate was duly made and as they sipped Richard reflected on how much like a family they had become. The thought made him smile. That smile morphed into a yawn. "Right, it is probably far past our bed times" Said Richard smiling. He felt sooo much like a bir brother saying that. With that he switched off the lights and crawled into bed. He wondered if they would chat about some nonsense until they both fell asleep.
