The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>> “I've never had an ID, but Alcohol does nothing for me anyways.”
Randy let out a sigh and pulled a snapping bracelet out for the lioness. "No ID in New York can get you into trouble. Not to mention causing problems when you need a job." Jobs, those are the hardest for mutants like her. More businesses like Randy's were being open minded but its still caused problems now and then. "You get yourself an ID ma'am and I'll give you a private seat at the bar. Heck, if you ever need a job I'll have something to." By now though a small line was forming behind her so Randy quickly handed the bracelet over and welcomed her in.
"Just a black apron." Randy followed Alex, closing the door behind him, then ported to the bottom of the stairs. As annoying as it was from a business standpoint, it was a good thing the bar was slow. Running the bar and keeping Alex busy at the same time would have been difficult. Making his way towards the cleaning supplied Randy called over his shoulder. "You're gonna be wiping down the tables and sweeping the floor. Depending on how long that takes I might have another job for you." With a spray bottle, towel and apron in hand Randy turned and waited for Alex to catch up.
>> "I'm sixteen, not to worry. And if some off duty cop decides to question my presence I'm pretty sure I can handle it."
Randy let out a sigh and shook his head. "See, that's the cocky attitude that probably got you into this situation in the first place. Secondly you will not handle it because this is my bar, my liquor license, and my a** on the line for having an underage worker." With that he stood up and motioned to the door in the back of the office. There wasn't really much for Alex to do, but forcing some honest labor into the kid wouldn't hurt. Sweeping, wiping down tables and maybe a few dishes. "Even so, its not doing me any good to just sit here wasting my time so, after you."
>> "I was sort of hoping you'd let me do that. But if you want, I'd be willing to put up with some work if you think I should pay you back for a decent hiding spot."
Well, technically Alex had a plan. A pathetic plan by Randy's standards, but a plan. The question was could he work off his keep. Sixteen was the legal wage to work in a bar, and since he would just be cleaning up there wasn't going to be any real problems involving minors and booze. "I got some cleaning to do, you could help with that. Assuming your over sixteen. I don't want some off duty cop riding my a** after i decided to help you."
"Mr. Peterson. So you were running from a fight and thought hiding here was a good bet." He chuckled, Randy wasn't one for running from a fight but then again boxing was one-on-one. Groups could be an issue. "Luckily I'm a reasonable man Alex. You needed some were safe and you found it. The problem is however now that your here, and pretty sure you aren't going to rob me... What's your next move kid?"
Alex had got himself into the situation, now, how would he get himself out. Nobody ever thought that far ahead. Randy rarely did because he had an emergency escape plan build into his DNA. Not that he still didn't have issues that porting couldn't solve, like arguments with the bank. However when he was a teen and in boxing his coach taught him to think ahead, plan where the next punch was coming from. This seemed like time to pass that lesson on.
>> "Y-you know how it goes, you piss off one guy, you piss off all his friends. So I just figured I'd hide out here till they get tired and go home. It was this or some dumpster, personally I'd prefer this."
Randy listened and watched the kid carefully. He seemed to be telling the truth, plus given the amount of time it took Randy to get up to his office it was a small surprise to find him huddled at the door not looking for cash. Maybe he deserved the benefit of the doubt. "What's your name kid?" A small tension breaker, Randy could have used a few more of those when he was a teen. He had been in more than a few fights outside the boxing ring and definitely had things go downhill before.
Randy watched him raise his hand and stand up. Just some kid not even eighteen.
>> "No need to get violent. I wasn't doing anything wrong. Okay, I opened the door to place that wasn't mine. But to be fair it was unlocked."
So he had forgot to lock it. That was rare. However that didn't explain why the kid was here or why he was huddled against the door instead of rummaging for valuables. Wasn't much worth stealing in the office besides Randy's second pistol but he kept it in a small safe anyway. Maybe the kid wasn't trying to rob the place.
>> "Are you the owner of this place?"
Randy took a few steps back and reached behind him for the wall. Fumbling for a second he found the light switch and flipped it on. "Yes, now sit down." He motioned to a chair in front of the desk. Moving to his own chair Randy pulled the pistol from his back pocket and placed it with its partner in the top draw gun safe. "Ignoring the fact that I didn't lock the door, you are breaking and entering. So start explaining or I call the cops."
Randy hung up the phone with a heavy sigh. The band was going to be late, if they even showed up for the night. He didn't like playing music from the albums during the night rush. It just didn't draw the crowds the same way. Life happened though and he knew how to deal with it. Still, it would be nice if there were less problems in the first few months. On the positive side of things it was still mid-afternoon, things could change. He mulled thing over for a while while he checked on his inventory.
Click. Thump.
Randy looked up. The sound of a door had come from his office. He was sure he had locked the door. Even if he hadn't he wasn't about to let someone rob him. He considered for a moment getting his pistol from under the registrar. He did buy the guns for this specific reason. Porting back to the main bar-room he whispered to his bartender. "Someone just broke into the office. Keep everything running normally down here." Grabbing the pistol from the safe he slid it into his back pocket then ported back to the store room.
Randy positioned himself to where the middle of his office should be and ported upwards. He was about a foot higher than the floor and landed with a loud thump. One hand went to the pistol as he scanned the room. The lights were off but he could make out the figure huddled at the door. "Alright, stand up slowly and we can all walk away from this."

Ah... Halloween the time of tricks, treats, and hi-jinx. Especially for five mutants who thought that New York needed to get more into the haunted spirit. They got together and decided to bring the cities nightmares to life, literally.
They managed to work together and cover the entire city with their combined power. While the effects have the range over the entire city its not quite strong enough to hit everyone. about one out of five people are affected by the group. However even the people not effected can still witness and be involved.
Now, what exactly are living nightmares? Well, "Mares" as their creators named them are physical phantoms that take the form of something frightening to someone. Specifically what the person is currently thinking of.
The Mares are solid, real and have one purpose. To get the person who thought of them and brought them into existence. Anyone in its way however will be dealt with. Mares do need to be "killed" to stop them. Anything that could kill a normal person can kill a Mare.
But what do they look like? What can they do? Mares are limited. In size they cant get bigger than a fifteen passenger van. They can only take the form of creatures or monsters and they cant use supernatural powers. They DO however have all the physical abilities of what they were created to be. Example: a vampire cant turn into a cloud of bats, but it has vampire super strength.
One last note a group of people could make multiple copies of the same Mare by accident. After all if one person caused a mare and you saw it and got scared thinking about that mare, then another Mare would form targeting you... What if there were ten or twelve people in your group?
Did you just watch a scary movie and wonder what the monster would be like in the dark alley? What if there was a giant man eating spider in times square? I bet that old building is haunted...
The threat is open to anyone and everyone. Post your first encounter with a mare, whether its your own or you seeing someone else's.
They spent weeks planning this night. Practicing on each other to see how strong they could be, how far they could reach. Tonight was the night it would pay off. Halloween. All Hallows Eve. The day of the Dead. Tonight the city would get to experience the holiday in a way they never thought possible. Tonight the cities worst nightmares would come to life.
With one nod they began, four of them linked their psychic minds with the fifth and stretched their powers across the city. Fog curled around corners like claws, shadows shifted and lurked like waiting animals. Random sounds traveled with purpose. Then all at once the things that goes bump in the night became real.
People closest to the group saw things first. Most people didn't pay attention at first. It was Halloween, everyone had costumes on. Except, that one kept following them. The werewolf's legs bent wrong, it cant be a costume. Nervous laughter turned to frightened screams, then cried of terror. Within a twenty minutes of the start, the sounds of fear and panic could be heard across New York.
(OOC: Only post your first encounter with a Mare in this thread. Then continue in a separate thread. If others join your thread they don't need to post the encounter here, however they are welcome to.)
Randy glanced down at the to-do list on his phone. He was still figuring out how to use the d*** thing but he was getting the basics down. Inventory, check. Ordering new stock, check. Bank deposit, check. Staff review, no check. The list went on for a bit. Most of it was items that could be done over the course of the next week. Still getting things done early helped keep business running smoothly. On the other hand Looking Glass wasn't open today so why was he working? Tucking his phone away he decided to enjoy the rest of the day. There was a small breeze, a slight chill in the fall weather, not too cold though. He might even go for a jog, or hit the gym if it got colder.
Randy heard the shots. Normally he didn't bother, this was New York after all, especially since he left his pistols at the office above his bar. However, seeing a certain "Queen of the Jungle" running towards the continued gunfire made this situation different. Quickly scanning towards the direction of the shots he saw the van in front of the bank he was at just a few minutes ago. "Oh s***!" He wasn't going to let another mutant charge into a gunfight alone. Nor was he about to loose the deposit this early in the business.
Randy took off running, eyes tracking the lioness. Diagonally front and left, about 45 feet away. He tripped and stumbled as he appeared next to her. Regaining his footing Randy started running again. "Going my way?"
Patrons drifted in slowly. The night was still a bit early, things would pick up in an hour or so. Randy greeted everyone happily and casually waved them in. So far all but two of them looked old enough and he trusted the bartenders judgment in carding the rest. Still Randy had a small pack of wrist bands in case of obvious minors.
One woman in particular caught his eye. She looked a bit pale, but that wasn't what made her stand out to him. She took the back corner booth and was alone. If she had sat at the bar, he wouldn't have noticed her much, but sitting alone at a corner table meant she was a people watcher. He made a mental note to visit her specifically as the night went on. Maybe she did reviews on YELP. That would be something. Turning his attention back to the door Randy found himself drawn into a pair of amber eyes.
>> "Are you mutant friendly?"
An important question, especially after the riots over the police attacks a while back. The woman before him was a lion among men, literally. Definitely someone who could handle herself but still, he could tell that she would not be welcome in some other places in the city. "Yes, otherwise I'd have to fire myself." He chuckled thinking about writing himself a pink slip. "However even the queen of the Jungle needs to show ID. For legal reasons."
