The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She had to ask didn't she... there was no way Luke could have explained his going into the house after Calley without either making himself look like a thief or something else but he had been hoping that Neena would refrain from asking about his 'hunting' clothes. More than likely she would think he was crazy for having a costume ientity to help fight crime but there was no backing out now. He had put out the information and she had asked.
"That's a subject I don't normally talk about but since Calley already knows I suppose it won't hurt to let his friends know too." Luke replied after a moment of silence, his expression turning serious as he faced the woman, "There was one incident while I was in Europe that I mentioned to you earlier... a couple of thugs attacked a farmer and almost raped his daughter because he wasn't paying for 'protection' from them. The farmer was able to beg for a few days grace in order to save his daughter but, at that time, I was powerless to do anything about it. I helped the farmer get the money he needed then went back to England and studied Bartitsu. After my studies both in the martial-arts as well as business were done I came back to New York. The crimes I had seen in the country side of Europe were even more prevelant here so I decided to do something about it. I put together a special suit of clothes to wear in combat and I started doing something about the crime."
Ok... now this was starting to sound stupid. Who in the world put themselves out on the line to protect people that often times hated mutants? She had to think he was one of the stupidest or craziest guys she had ever met.
"I'm not powerful enough to face other mutants but I can take down your average perp just fine." Luke said with a slight shrug, "It's my part to help stop the problem... even if it's not much."

Luke nodded, accepting that Sara could take care of herself. He had never been one to force help on anyone and this would be no different. He might have been interested in carrying on a longer conversation but the pain in his head was approaching the unbearable point and he really had to get home where he could let his sonar out safely.
"Well thank you very much for lunch and I hope I see you again sometime. If you ever need anything feel free to give me a call at the numer on that card." Luke said with the best smile he could muster as he slid over towards the end of the booth, preparing to leave. "Take care of yourself Sara."

Well now that Luke is beginning to get to know Raina IC, I'd love to be involved. Chalk Luke up for the Mansion side of the fight since he would always jump in to defend his friends.

"She lives on the streets... she has to." Luke realized immediately from the cat's statement. With the prices in New York he didn't think there was any way she could afford to pay for a different hotel each week and he didn't know of any apartments that rented by the week... unless they were in the slums of course.
"I lived in Europe for a long time... back packed all around bunking in whatever room the local farmers would let me have." Luke offered, a slight smile on his face as he remembered. "It was kind of a nie time. I grew up around so many trust fund babies that I had to get out and see how the real world lived. It helped me grow up that's for sure."
Even back then of course Luke had been able to access as much money as he might need but he had purposely stayed away from his own funds unless an emergency came up. Uncle Oliver would never understand that kind of mindset but then he didn't understand a lot of real life circumstances.
"So you have a place to right now or are you still wandering between locations?"

Luke leaned back in his chair with a thoughtful expression on his face as he thought about the people he knew here in New York City. Was there anyone he would classify as a friend? There was no extremely close friends he could think of, at least noone he would trust with every secret in his life.
"Friends have always been few and far between for me... at least close friends. I make aquaintences very easily but to let someone get that close is very rare. Miss Langstan, my secretary at Jacobs and Jacobs is probably the person that knows me best but only in a business sense. We have very clear boundaries in our relationship and we maintain a good business friendship and that's all." The blind man said slowly as one after another he thought of a name and then discarded it, "And girlfriends... I've had arm trophies that I could escort to different parties but once again I never found anyone that I knew I could trust with every secret about my life."
Ok... things were getting way to serious an even a little depressing. Thinking about how few friends he actually had was not Luke's idea of a good time and so he needed to find a way out and quick.
"So the girlfriend position is available, if that's why you were asking. I'm always glad to take applications." Luke teased, a sly smile apearing on his face for several moments before he decided to allow Raina to relax. "Just teasing Raina."
Any embaressment on Raina or Luke's parts was spared as the waiter came up, asking in a very conversational tone whether the two were ready to order.
"I'll take the three course lunch starting with your 'Beet and Mango Salad' followed by the 'Grilled N.Y. Steak' cooked to medium rare. I believe I'll finish with an 'Apple & Plum Tart'. Just water to drink will be fine." Luke said as he turned his head to face the waiter, offering his own smile before turning back to Raina with an upraised eyebrow.

As Raina spoke, Luke just remained quiet... patiently listening as he recounted yet more of her troubles. The poor girl had faced so much and now her very transformation made her a prisoner from the elements. There was no way she could step out and just enjoy the feeling of rain falling down on her face without becoming a mermaid and revealing herself to anyone nearby. Luke had always enjoyed moving freely through the elements... without normal sight the things that he could taste, touch, and smell had always provided extra wonder for him. The scent of rain in the air and the feeling of it touching his skin was one of the things that he had taken for granted but yet here was a young woman that had to be so concerned about the feeling that she couldn't just enjoy it.
"You've really been put through the ringer over this past year." Luke said quietly as he reached out and grabbed his own glass of water, taking a small sip before placing it back down on the table. "Well she doesn't need me making her any more nervous than she is already." He thought to himself as he brought his aura of awareness inward until it only extended out about two feet in all directions. It was enough that he could still see his glass of water and the spot where his food would be set, but he wouldn't be bothering Raina with the nervous side of his gift.
"Can I assume you have some close friends at the Mansion that have helped you through everything?" Luke asked, doing his best to keep her engaged in conversation and hopefully thinking about happier thoughts. She had to have some close friends... didn't she?

"This place is really beautiful, I'm surprised it's not filled to the brim with a waiting list to boot. I take things like this for granted, I've got to remind myself that we've got nothing like this where I come form. Not poor or anything, it's just that getting anything all that way up north is really expensive so it tends to cost an arm and a leg to eat out. Best we've got is fast food and even then it's a little different than everything else."
Suddenly as Raina spoke, Luke realized that for most people this was probably an extremely expensive restaurant. He didn't make so much money that he liked flaunting it or eating out like this several times a week but ever couple of weeks he enjoyed a nice dinner out.
"I'm sorry." Luke apologized, "I'm probably coming across as a spoiled rich boy bringing you here. I'm not trying to show off or anything but I will buy your meal. Consider it... congratulations for your new job."
"I think I'll pass on the wine. Is there a kind you like? I think if I'm going back to the school probably just water."
"Other than the occasional glass of wine with dinner I normally stay away from alcohol, although I do enjoy the flavor of a nice merlot." He replied with a slight chuckle, "I learned while in college that drinking can make you show off and reveal things that you didn't want people to know. I'm probably one of the few to leave basically sober from some of these socialite parties."
"That steak sounds great. It's been too long since I've had a real sit down meal, we're always so busy at the mansion!"
It was nice to hear Raina talking about the mansion... Luke had visited once but it had been in the middle of the night when no one but Neena had been up and about. "I'll have to have you give me a tour during the day sometime. The only time I visted was around one a.m. or something so other than talking with Neena I didn't meet any of the mansion residents or really take a good look around either."
"it's convient this place is so close to home, I bet you eat here a lot! They must treat you like a regular." Raina said before suddenly jumping because of a loud thunder clap from outside. "Oh no. We may be here a little longer than I expected..."
For a moment Luke was confused as he tried to understand what Raina was saying. The rain had started but neither of them would get very wet between the restaurant entrance and their cab. "I know we get a little wet but it's not far from the door to our cab and the doorman will hail one down for us." Luke said slowly, his voice dropping slightly as he realized this had to do something with Rain's mutation. "Does water... affect you?"
Luke knew he was probably stretching a little bit with his assumption but it began to make a little bit of sense. Raina had been carried away from the tank back at the aquarium so maybe her transformation wasn't voluntary. If getting wet was what made things happen then the storm outside could be a problem... a serious problem.

Luke waved after Raina as the young woman left the restaurant. "See you again sometime!"
Turning back to his plate the blind man knew he had one more piece of sushi left but he wasn't sure if he raelly wanted to eat it or not. I mean, this much raw fish might get to him and he wasn't the biggest sushi eater in the world.
"Allow me to get the bill." Sara spoke up from across the table.
"You don't have to but... thanks." Luke replied before pulling out his wallet, "I'll get the tip... from the service I don't expect it to be very large."
The final statement had been made with an obvious smile that meant Luke was taking it all as a joke. "You want my last piece of sushi? It's tuna, but I think I'm full." He continued, pushing his plate part way across the table as an offering before he grabbed his glass of water and took yet another sip.
"So, if you don't mind my asking, where do you live Sara? I figured out you're not at the mansion so do you have an apartment or something?"
The cab ride from the New York Aquarium to the Gotham Bar and Grill normally took between twenty-five to thirty minutes... with traffic and a rather slow driver it added up to forty minutes. Thankfully however the ride had been pleasant with idle conversation going back and forth between the blind-man and attractive lady teacher. Luke had been surprised when Raina had taken his arm but he had gone along with it.
"I've eaten here a few times and the food has always been really good." Luke said as he stepped out of the cab and then offered a hand to help Raina out, "My apartment is only about ten minutes from here so it's convenient."
Even as the words left his mouth, Luke knew that might have sounded wrong. Well... Raina had made a comment about wanting to see his apartment sometime so he had let her know it wasn't far away but tonight wouldn't be good. He was sure that the young woman had work the next day at her new job and he had things to do... well he was planning on stopping by the office but that wasn't exactly of huge importance and could be delayed if necessary.
"Good afternoon!" A brown-haired college age hostess greeted as soon as the two of them walked through the door, "Will it just be the two of you?"
"Yes thank you." Luke replied with a smile, his hand gently touching Raina's elbow so that everyone in the room would think she was guiding him.
In a matter of moments the two were seated at a table toward the back of the restaurant. Having arrived before the busiest times the tables on either side of them were empty, allowing a little more privacy than usual. Luke had never truly 'seen' the restaurant before but it had been described to him often enough that he could almost imagine what everything looked like.
Gold painted ceilings and walls gave the restaurant almost a royal feel which combined perfectly with the cloth draped chandeliers that along with plenty of can lights kept the room light enough to easily read the menu. Large bouquets of fresh flowers stood atop pedestals throughout, brightening the room and keeping things bright and cheerful. The tables were somewhat closer together than you would find in other restaurants but there was still an intimacy when dining here that was hard to achieve even in much larger rooms.
With the menu laying in front of him, Luke leaned back against the cushion of his chair allowing his sonar to more carefully examine Raina's features while she studied the menu. She was most undoubtedly a beautiful woman and it had been some time since he had gone out with a lady this attractive. For now he would focus on enjoying exactly what this meal was... a time of friendship. Nothing more.
"Just to warn you, the waiter will ask if you want any type of wine with the meal. Do you see anything that looks particularly good?" Luke asked with a slight smile, "If you're interested in steak the 'Grilled New York Steak' is excellent."

"Well..." Luke began as he ran through all kinds of possible restaurants in his mind. This was going to be a simple dinner between friends... nothing more. I mean, they weren't discussing business but they were going to be discussing a type of work so that would keep things from getting to personal. "The Gotham Bar and Grill has good food and it's not to fancy. It's over on 12th street."
Ok... so maybe the 'Gotham Bar & Grill' wasn't the most casual place in the world but it wasn't some extremely fancy place where you had to be majorly dressed up either. Both of them were dresse find to eat at a place like that but the atmosphere was one that would allow them to carry on a light conversation without getting to intense.
"Unless you have something you want to eat... I'm really not all that particular."
(OOC: Feel free to post a new thread with our arrival at whichever restaurant Raina feels like. )

--Jacobs & Jacobs Security--
Deborah Langstan = Recently promoted to CFO due to Luke Jacobs having to back away from the company because of his mutant status. Close friend of Luke Jacobs. Very attractive, blue-eyed, leggy blonde, with an intellect that would put most men to shame. Friend of Luke's but nothing more. Currently dating Mr. Gregory Singer.
Oliver Jacobs = Uncle of Luke Jacobs and current CEO. Balding, middle-aged man with a slight gut. Oliver stands at 5'9" with a ring of salt and pepper hair around his head but nothing on top. Normally Oliver wears a suit, either silver gray or charcoal gray with a plain white dress shirt and a burgundy tie. Publicly he is an equal oportunity employer while privately he hates mutants. As an experience businessman Oliver is skilled at keeping his thoughts and feelings to himself although occasionally he will slip up.
Gregory Singer = Mr. Singer is the department head for the 'Jacobs & Jacobs' financial office. He's in charge of making sure that everything runs smoothly and he reprots directly to Miss Langstan. Gregory has dirty blonde hair cut just long enough that he is continually pushing it to the side to keep it from brushing against his eyebrows. He wears a pair of silver, wire-frame glasses that accentuate the blue of his eyes. To put it nicely, Gregory looks like a geek and it wouldn't seem out of place to see a pocket protector in his breast pocket but he had a kind face and is actually very easy to work with. Currently dating Miss Deborah Langstan.

Open door... first the interest in seeing his apartment and now the offer to go somewhere else. "No... you're reading to much into this. We're just friends and she's vulnerable. I'm the first person she opened up to about her experiences with her previous boyfriend and the camp. Do not even begin to think abou taking advantage of her!" Luke thought to himself as sternly as he could manage. Even with only sonar for vision he knew Raina was quite attractive and there was no denying that, even while he was a mutant, he was still a man.
"Well since you're done with work you're probably ready to get out of here." Luke replied with a smile, doing his best to just stay friendly and not push for anything else. "She's a nice girl... focus... she's just a nice girl." Luke thought to himself as he mind raced on what setting could be casual without seeming like a date.
"Can I buy you some coffee or dinner?" Luke finally offered. Giving the option for coffee kept things casual but the offer for a full meal was still there if Raina wanted it. "You can tell me about your ideas for water therapy with my sonar."
Luke had to admit that last comment was a smooth move... by keeping things at least a little on business it kept things from getting to personal. He was offering Raina her opportunity to slip away or maintain a certain level with their relationship. If she didn't take it then he would not be held responsible for anything that might transpire later on.

As Duke made his exit and slipped away, Luke waved after him. "Nice to meet you Duke!" Luke called out just loud enough for the other man to hear before he dissapear out into the street.
“I don’t think I could stand, not being able to see a painting. I’ve always done art of some kind. At least you two don’t have to worry about shedding, or catching your fingernails on fabric. I’ve never been able to wear a knit sweater for a lengthy period of time.” Sara spoke up, obviously pointing out her own difficulties compared to Luke and Raina's.
"I can't say I've ever been big on knit sweaters so that's wouldn't be a great loss for me." Luke replied with a slight chuckle as he turned his head to face towards the feline, "And nice ice cube Raina... see up this close I can make out facial features so I can see sculptures and that kind of art work but I can't see anything that's completely flat. Occasionally people use paintings that have some type of texture but without color entering into the equation it's hard to see the images and patterns that are supposed to stand out."
This was deffinately strange... the thing that Luke couldn't really appreciate and had never thought much about was one of the things these two ladies enjoyed the most. "How in the world am I supposed to relate to them when they enjoy things that require true sight?" The blind man wondered as he reached down and grabbed up another piece of sushi. "One left."

"It was very... different when I began to see. Even though I was only sixteen I had heard people talk about their sight often enough that I knew it was different and so I kept it to myself until I figured out what was going on. Of course I ended up not telling anybody but I've begun to appreciate it even more now that I've been practicing turning it off or only using it directionally instead of all around." Luke replied as he continued to watch the penguins. He would always be amazing by the differences in nature and the way everything worked together. Nature had a way of maintaining balance except when man get involved. Maybe that was one of the reasons people so easily hated other people... they knew something was wrong with the way everyone lived and they just couldn't accept it.
"So is that what brings you to the big apple? Your job?" Raina asked, apparently content to still remain here by the penguins.
"Yeah... I didn't have any ties to anyone here except for the business. It's kind o silly but it's really the only connection I have to my family. My great grand-father founded the company or... maybe it was my great great grand-father. Anyways, I decided it was important for me to be a part of it and New York is as good a place to help as any. I got myself an apartment in the New Gotham apartment building... 34th floor." Luke replied before looking over at Raina and continuing somewhat appologetically, "Really it's only for looks... it lets me blend in with the people I rub shoulders with when it comes to work and its a status symbol. My Uncle is all about status symbols."
It was deffinately time to change the subject. Here he was telling a strange woman where his home was and there was no telling if she would take that as an invitation or something. He knew Raina, but not THAT well. It wasn't like he would object to her coming over but having that happen right after hearing about her previous relationship and misscarriage was not exactly the best timing in the world.
"So... now that you're so close to different sea animals, what's your favorite display around here?" Luke asked, knowing that his changing the subject was not at all subtle but not really caring, "Are you a big fan of the seals or otters or something else?"
