The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"I hate to trouble you more Luke... but I'm having a bit of trouble breathing here. You can't see, but I have gills and they depend on water. I'm doing my best to hold them shut and force my air through my mouth instead but if I want enough energy to change back I'm going to need a few good gasps... I need like a bath tub or something... just enough to submurge my neck and get a good enough gulp of air to hold my breath while I dry off. I've never been in this kind of situation and usually I can dry off right away or change right away so I never have to hold my breath through my gills very long..."
Raina's few words completely changes Luke's gameplan. He had been planning on letting her used the bedroom to change and dry off since his soaked clothes were still piled on the bathroom floor but obviously that was not going to work. It also meant that he was deffinately going to have to carry her up to the room since she wasn't able to transform yet.
"Just hold on Raina." Luke said with as reasurring a smile as he could offer, "Once I get you upstairs you spend as long in the tub as you need." The blind man's enxt movements were performed without the slightest hesitation as he climbed out of the vehicle, closed the door and then made his way around to open Raina's door and pick her up into his two arms. "Keep your hands over those gills and we'll have you in some water in short order." He said again as he kicked the car door closed before walking and then breaking into a slow jog towards the elevator.
It was all to long for the elevator to make its way down to the parking garage but as soon as possible Luke was inside with Raina still cradled in his arms. Balancing carefully on on leg Luke pressed the correct floor button with his knee and then stood silent, waiting as the elevator car made it was upwards.
"Don't stop... don't stop." He thought to himself over and over as he found himself beginning to worry about the young woman he held in his arms. Maybe it was a good thing he had never had any sisters growing up because he probably would have been overbearingly protective, especially if they had abilities that put them in dangerous positions like Raina's did. Finally the elevator doors opened on the correct floor and Luke jogged down the hall, walking into his room moments later.
"We're here." He said as cheefully as possible while kicking the door closed behind him and trying to keep any worry out of his voice, "Home free now."
The living room was probably the standard for bachelors... a cream carpet covered the floor from wall to wall. In corner to their right was a large entertainment system with stacks of CDs next to it. Most of the CDs were either classical or country but there was a sprinkling of jazz and rock mixed in. Straight ahead from the entry door was a brown leather couch with its back towards the door. Directly in front of the couch was a wooden coffee table and two leather recliners were positioned on the other side of the coffee table with a small table and lamp set in between them. Probably the strangest feature though was that there was nothing hanging on the walls... no pictures, artwork, or anything decorative. They were just blank white canvases waiting for someone to breath life into them.
Whether Raina had time to notice any of these details, Luke had no clue because as soon as the front door was closed he was moving towards the bathroom. Gently setting Raina down on the floor beside the bathtub Luke turned on the water full blast and then paused briefly, looking down at Raina with a slight questioning expression on his face.
"Um... are you OK to do this by yourself? I can leave you alone and go get some dry clothes." Even as the words came out of his mouth anyone could tell he was uncomfortable. Luke was willing to help Raina if she needed a lift to get into the tub but after being told he had to get in line with her other admirers he was doing his best to steer clear of accidently copping a feel or anything like that.
The bathroom was decorated very similarly to the bedroom... a sparse bachelor setup that could be seen in any single man's house. Thankfully it was kept immaculately clean. White ceramic tile covered the floors and about three feet up on the walls. Above that the walls were painted a satin white that helped protect the wall boards from moisture. For color, several burgundy bath towels hung on a rack right beside bathtub while several smaller burgundy hand towels lay carefully folded next to the sink.

"Thank you, Luke." Victoria said as she reached out and touched his hand.
"My pleasure." Luke replied with a smile, "Just take care of yourself and you should be fine. And the instruction with your power would probably help."
"Well that is just dandy, looks like there's a knight in shining amour to the rescue and you are all sorted Victoria dear. And I would seriously think about some training if I were you, it is a great comfort to control your gift and not let it control you- I could so hook you up with some very cool teacher types."
The blind man nodded again, agreeing with Tris as he turned his attention back to the sandwich. There were still two or three bites left and there was no way he was going to waste something that tasted this good. Biting into it again Luke began to chew as he listened to the two ladies talk about training. A job he could offer but training was not something he could offer for someone else. He had practiced with his own power before but he didn't know anything about other people's abilities. It was deffinately better to just stay out of it and let Tris talk.

Luke could feel the weight suddenly begin to change as he made his way to the car and even though he had been expecting it, it was a little surprising. "Sorry if I squeeze to hard." He murmured quietly to Raina as his left arm clamped tightly around her waist, holder her firmly against his side while his right hand grabbed the door handle and opened it quickly. Getting her in was going to be impossible with one arm so it was time to change grips. Suddenly dipping slightly at the knees, Luke's reached down with his right arm and slipped it under where Raina's knees were when she had legs. Lifting her quickly and easily the blind man deposited her on the seat, right next to the stack of several towels that were sitting between the seats.
"Watch your fins." Luke said with a quick teasing grin before closing the door and jogging around to the other side. In moments he was in the vehicle and seated with his seat belt buckled. Shifting into drive Luke pulled away from the curb and out into the traffic on the street again.
"I think you fooled anyone that might have been watching." He teased, trying to give her conversation and something to think about other than her transformation. "You make a rather convincing drunk."
Several minutes later Luke pulled into the parking garage of his building. Parking smoothly he turned off the engine and then turned his attention to the mermaid that was seated beside him. "Any chance you can walk or will you not really be dry enough until you get out of those damp clothes?" It would be nice if Raina were ready to walk up to his apartment but he was prepared to carry her if she hadn't been able to dry off enough.

(OOC: The power clues were just what I had in mind. I hope you don't mind my using the clues to get close, though not actually there where Sara is.)
As the phone disconnected Luke smiled grimly. The sounds he had heard weren't perfect and they wouldn't give him all the information he needed but they were deffinately a starting point. "I hope you like hide and seek Sara." The blind man murmured softly as he hung up the phone and waited for a moment before lifting it again to the sound of a dial tone, "Because as of this moment you are being hunted."
Pressing the '0' on the phone he waited for a moment before a very polite female operator asked how she could assist him. "New York Transit Authority please." Luke replied immediatley. Moments later the connection was made and Luke was speaking with a Transit Authority representative.
"How may we help you sir?" A rather hauty sounding man asked after greeting had been made.
"I'm heading for a monorail station to pick up an out of town friend but they don't know exactly where they are. Could you tell me what trains just made their stop in the last minute or two?"
"Your friend couldn't just look at a street sign?" The man asked in obvious disbelief.
"He's blind... I'm trying to make this easy on him. He's never been to the big city before."
"Well, let's see... two have just made stops."
"He said he can smell food from restaurants nearby... does that help narrow it down?" Luke interupted before the man could continue.
"Ok... well then it must be the (insert station name), near the river. Plenty of restaurants in that area."
"Thanks for all your help." Luke replied as pleasantly as possible before hanging up. Now he had a hunting ground to work in... the game was on.
***
Wraith crouched on a fire escape right across the street from the monorail station that was his primary target. Tantalizing scents and aromas wafted through the air but that didn't matter. There were two things that mattered at this exact moment. 1) It was still drizzling and he was getting more and more annoyed with every passing second. 2) The sounds were what would draw him towards his prey. In the distance he could hear cell phone after cell phone ring and get answer so he knew just calling the phone again would do him no good but there was that bell he had heard when Sara left that restaurant. Closing his eyes as his eyebrow knit together in concentration, Wraith focused on his enhanced hearing as he listened to restaurant door after restaurant door open and close as customers came and went. The chimes were all so similar that he knew it was going to take some time to recognize the right sound... maybe all night but he was in no hurry. Sara had started the hunt and Wraith never left a job before it was finished.

Luke's walk as he moved out through the restaurant and then out the door was that of a blind man slowly moving through unknown territory. If anyone had paid attention to what was going on outside of the windows they would have been shocked at the change that suddenly overtook him as soon as he was outside. Grabbing his handicap cane in the middle like an extra-long baton he took off at a dead run, seemingly oblivious to the rain that was falling down around him. Sonar was an interesting thing to watch during rain but thankfully his time patrolling during thunder storm had made him used to the weather. All through his field of 'vision' were small flashes depicting each rain drop as the sound waves bounced, deflected, and curved. Without training most people wouldn't have been able to make heads or tails of the information that was now streaming into Luke's brain but thanks to his mutation it all made complete sense.
Already his heart rate was up and he could begin to hear the sound of blood coursing through his ears. Dodging into an alleyway Luke jumped and grabbed onto the fire escape, pulling himself up expertly and beginning a swift run up to the roof. Six minutes and several frightening leaps later Luke was unlocking his door and walking into the apartment. Without a though Luke tossed his cane onto the couch and walked into the bathroom, stripping off his wet clothes and drying as quickly and efficiently as possible. Jogging into the bedroom Luke gathered a new pair of jeans and a random t-shirt from his drawer. Slipping his now soggy sneakers back onto his feet he moved toward the door before suddenly stopping and spinning back around. "Towels... she'll need towels." Luke muttered as he headed over to the bathroom and grabbed up several large bath towers before finally leaving the apartment. Choosing to leave the door unlocked for the few minutes he'd be gone, Luke jogged over to the elevator and then made his way down to the parking garage.
Most play boy types had flashy cars that they used to attract women and honestly, Luke could have had as flashy a car as anyone but there was one problem with that. Being blind meant that he had to keep up appearances so having some sports car in his possession would seem extremely strange. However, 'Jacobs & Jacobs' had one particular vehicle that was kept parked at Luke's building. A burgundy PT Cruiser... just the type of car that would allow him to blend in with traffic and not attract the attention of any police.
As Luke started the ignition his internal stop watch told him he was running late. Ten minutes had passed and he would be extremely lucky if he were able to arrive back at the restaurant in only five minutes. "Gonna have to push it just a little... can't leave the fair lady waiting." Luke murmured as he drove down the street. Even in rain New York traffic was a nightmare but these are streets Luke had memorized months before so he used every little side street and shortcut he could think of. Unfortunately it was useless and he was unable to make it back in the prescribes fifteen minutes.
***
Sixteen minutes after leaving the restaurant a burgundy PT Cruiser pulled up to the front sidewalk and parked with the motor idling. Jumping out Luke jogged around the vehicle and over to where Raina stood under the covered entrance. Through the rain, and without his sunglasses on, Luke looked basically normal. It was only when he got up really close that she could see the cloudiness of his eyes that indicated his blindness.
"OK, Raina... here's the game-plan. We start walking toward the car with my arm around your waist... when you start to change I'll basically carry you over and put you in the car. There are some towels in there so you can start drying off but if your clothes are to wet we can find something for you to wear back at the apartment." Luke said with a smile as he stood, only slightly dampened in his fresh jeans and gray 'I'm a keeper!' t-shirt. "Ready?"

"You sound just like Xavier." Neena said in what sounded like a positive manner. Luke remember her mentioning that Xavier wanted mutants and humans to live in harmony but he honestly didn't know much about the man. "I'll have to research him when I have time. Sounds like an interesting person." The blind man thought to himself, not knowing just how interesting the man truly was.
"Taking in all you just said, I'm going to attempt to tempt you, no pun intended. Did Calley tell you anything about the Xmen during your little 'excursion'?"
"X-men?" Luke asked curiously, making it quite obvious from the get go that he hadn't heard of them before, "I'm afraid not. Other than mentioning Xavier's school, Calley didn't talk about a whole lot. Can I assume that Xavier and the X-Men are someone connected?"
It seemed as though the conversation was about to go into very interesting territory but Luke didn't know exactly how he knew something was going to happen. The way Neena had said it... the X-Men... there had to be some type of secret attached to the name or he would have heard of them before. But then again, perhapse not... Luke didn't exactly pay a huge amount of attention to current events unless they directly affected mutants or New York City itself.

“Next time, don’t try to fool with me, Luke. I’ve got a built in lie detector”
Inwardly he was beginning to get angry but anyone that knew Luke well also knew that he didn't get angry in the way that most people did. Instead of getting loud and stupid his anger tempered him to a sharpness he couldn't achieve while calm. Anyone within range of his sonar would begin seeing shadows and ghosts right at this moment but he kept things under control, holding the range down to a ten foot radius so that it wouldn't get out of his apartments.
"I apologize if my trying to protect friends from the danger associated with my Wraith persona offends you Sara." He continued in a rather emotionless, detached voice that most would know meant he was really ticked off, "Next time I'll make sure to keep Wraith's nose out of your business. Now when and where can I pick up my phone?"
It wouldn't be that easy... it never was with someone that was willing to commit crimes. There were certain things you could justify, such as breaking and entering in order to collect evidence and assault in order to get information from a known criminal but stealing in order to get back at someone was just cold. "Note: Sara goes in the acquaintance column... friends don't steal from friends." Luke thought to himself as he idly listened to Sara's reply. Really the words didn't matter much, what was more important was the background noises. Were there cars nearby? Any sort of an echo? Was there the sound of water or anything else that might give away her location? She wouldn't just hand the phone back... it was never that easy with criminals.

It was nerve racking listening to the phone ring but finally the connection was made. Swiftly opening his mouth to speak, Luke stopped in stunned silence as he listened to what was being said by the person on the other end of the line.
“New York City Morgue, You stab ‘em we Slab ‘em. Who may we help you today.”
Had he dialed the right number? For a brief moment Luke hesitated as he mind ran over the digits he had dialed. No, it was deffinately the right number and now that he was thinking more about it the voice sounded familiar. As much as he had wanted to deny the possibility, it was looking more and more like someone who was a good friend of Raina's had intentionally stolen from him. "How in the world am I going to explain this situation to Raina? What's going to happen if Sara talk to her first?" Luke thought before finally finding the focus to speak.
"What are you doing Sara?" Luke asked quietly, his voice maintain an almost clinical emotionless sound to it as he stood there with the home phone gripped tightly in his left hand. "Why in the world did you decide to steal from me?"

Raising an eyebrow curiosly Luke focused his sonar on Neena a little more fully so that he could watch her facial expressions. The power was still pretty low so that he wouldn't make her uneasy but as he closed off his other arcs and only let the sonar go in Neena direction, he found it was much easier to concentrate on her without the added distractions of the rest of the room.
"To be honest, it's hard for me to answer that." Luke said quietly, "I would have to know something about what this other person's personality was like and I'd need to hear exactly what their views were. I don't expect to find anyone that agrees on every single facet with me but if they were willing to admit that humans had reason to be scared of mutants and a right to be protected from those that do crazy things with their abilities it would be very tempting."
Turning Luke extended his sonar just long enough to make his way over to a chair and sit down. If Neena was comfortable enough to just relax while they talked then he could mimic her for at least a little while.

Wraith was silent for a moment as he watched Sara began to walk away. Thankfully it looked like she had appeared to accept his explanation of powers and she was questioning whether he was really Luke or not.
"Take care Sara... watch your back." He stated quietly before turning his own back and dissapearing into the shadows. Now... travel home, change clothes, and get back about life in general. Maybe he had been wrong and this slow night in the city wasn't going to lead into disaster. Maybe things would stay quiet, just the way he liked them.
Sitting at home on his couch, Luke sipping at a cup of hot tea as he listened to the rain falling outside. Winter weather had come to New York and that always helped keep the crime rate down. It seemed like criminals were like anyone else... they despised getting wet. Other than the excitement several night before when Wraith had helped Sara with that gang, things had been quiet and so Luke felt that he deserved a night off to relax.
"Maybe I should give someone a call and get out of the house." He mused quietly to himself, "Don't have Sara's number so she's out... Raina might be available but she wouldn't want to leave the mansion in this weather. Well there's an idea... I could always go see what's going on at the mansion."
In the kitchen Luke's home phone began to ring so after taking one more leisurely sip of his tea the blind man stood and walked confidently into the next room.
"This is Luke."
"Where in the world have you been for the past two days?! China?" The voice of Miss Langstan rang out over the phone. It didn't take a scientist to tell that she was a little upset and so Luke immediately set about calming her down.
"Whoa, whoa! Slow down Deborah! I know I haven't missed any meetings and I haven't left town. What's the problem?"
"We haven't been able to reach you on your cell phone for the past two days and customers are calling us with complaints about your manners on the phone!" She replied without missing a beat, "Have you been out partying with some girl again?"
"Deborah, you know as well as I do that other than taking those 'girls' to parties, I don't spend any time with them." Luke replied sternly, "I must have forgotten to plug in my phone and since it's not rining I haven't even thought about it. The customers complaining must have been getting a wrong number. Look, I'll call you back after I've had a chance to charge my cell. Ok?"
"Call me as soon as you've got a charge so that I know everything is OK. You've had me worried Luke." Miss Langstan replied, apparently beginning to calm down.
"I'll call you Deborah. Bye."
Hanging up the phone Luke turned and walked into the bedroom. As he approached the bedside table he realized that he had deffinately forgotten to charge the phone... it wasn't even there. For second he could believe what he was 'seeing'. How in the world had he forgotten to plug the phone in? Where had he left it?
"No panicking." He thought to himself, mentally calming himself down as he breathed in and out in measured breaths just as he had learned in martial arts, "Where did I have it last... the past two days have been quiet and other than couple of patrols I've been here at the house. It must be in my belt on the uniform."
Nodding with satisfaction Luke made his way to the bathroom. It had been sprinkling last night to so he had hung up the suit when he got home so that it could dry before he put it on again. Grabbing the still somewhat damp belt Luke swiftly ran his hands through the pockets.
"Keys... money... empty." Luke muttered as he went through first one, then two, and then three pockets. "Empty... how in the..." He began before his fingers touched the edges of the torn fabric on the bottom. For a moment his breath was frozen in his lungs as he slowly ran his fingers over the edges of the hole. The fabric wasn't ragged as though it had been torn by force but instead were smooth with only slight fraying as though they had been cut by a sharp object. With mind racing he began to put together the evidence that made a pit of fear begin to grow down deep inside. Two days out of touch... pouch cut by a sharp implement while he was in his costume... phone taken with extreme dexterity.
After walking back over to his home phone Luke slowly dialed his own cell phone number and waited as it began to ring. There was the chance he had just misplaced it but the cut he had found in the pouch of his utility belt led him to believe something completely different. "Sara... what's going on?" The blind man muttered to himself as he waited for someone to pick up.

Luke nodded slightly, a small smile on his features as he extended his sonar just long enough for him to spot the waiter and wave him over. Drawing the sonar back in swiftly so as not to make Raina uneasy, Luke drew a credit card from his wallet and handed it to the waiter.
"Thank you very much for a wonderful meal. Tack on a thirty percent tip and then bring it back to me for the signature." Luke instructed with obvious appreciation in his voice. As the waiter walked away the blind man turned his face back toward Raina, his expression turning a little bit more serious.
"As I said, I'll need to leave for a few minutes to line up our other option for leaving. Wait here for about fifteen minutes and then step outside the door. The entrance is covered so you should be able to stay out of the rain until I drop in to pick you up."
Already his mind was racing over how he could get out into the shadows and back in the time allotted. Instead of using his costumed identity another idea had poked its way into his mind... in the parking garage of his building Luke kept a vehicle for emergencies. It was registered as being owned by "Jacobs & Jacobs" and he could drive it, even though the law considered him technically blind and thus refused to grant him a drivers license. If he came by the door, stepped out, helped Raina in, and then drove her to the parking garage it would be a short trip up the elevator to his apartment.
"Will you be OK while I'm gone?" Dealing with Raina's brother could be interesting, especially since Luke was already feeling protective toward her. It wasn't fair that a mutation could keep you from enjoying the beauty of a rain shower but he was going to do his best to at least make today easy on her.

As Wraith went about replacing his equipment on his back he could sense Sara moving closer. "Perfect... just perfect... she doesn't buy this for even a second."
“So you really don’t know a Luke?”
Maybe this had a chance after all. It sounded like she was beginning to accept it. "I know several Luke's around town. Whether any of the Luke's I know are the same one you're referring to is anyone's guess."
"Just stay cool... stay cool. This might work."
“I must be mistaken.” Sara finally said, her voice cooling off slightly as he bent over beside him to pick up the axe that had fallen to the ground. Wraith was so relieved that his charade as working that he failed to notice the claw working at the bottom of the pouch or the fact that some of the weight on his belt had just dissapeared.
“Either way that’s some sonar you’ve got.” She finally said as she backed away from him.
"Another couple of lies and I might be free and clear... perfect!" He thought triumphantly as he turned around to face the lady cat. "I emit sound that makes the human eyeball vibrate forming shadows and ghosts at the edge of their vision. I can also sense danger as it gets closer and closer. I'm afraid sonar isn't on my list of abilities."
That danger sense idea sounded pretty crazy but it was all he could come up with at the spur of the moment. It was probably a good idea to change the subject before she had to much time to think about it.
"It looked like you didn't really need my help there but I'm glad you didn't kill them." He spoke quietly but firmly as he focused his face towards Sara as best he could, "Trash like that aren't worth getting blood on your hands... or claws."

(OOC: Luke is a gentleman... he won't start anything that Raina doesn't invite or start herself. And don't worry about slow posting. Real life takes precedence of RP.)
Luke was beginning to feel like something of a heel... Raina was obviously beginning to get upset at the thought of trying to get out during the rain and his apartment was an obvious choice to get away to.
"Friends... we're just friends. There's nothing wrong with having a friend over to the apartment." He thought to himself as he battled the internal struggle. Finally, kindness won out over any uncomfortableness.
"You could come over to my apartment... if we wave down a cab and I 'help' you out then we can probably hide the fishy side of your transformation."
It wasn't the perfect solution but it was all he could think of... or almost all.
"Or... if you want to avoid a cab their is another option. It'll involve me leaving for a few minutes though."
Though Raina didn't know it, Luke was giving her an invitation to see a part of his life he rarely showed to anyone. His dual identity as Wraith was something he from most everyone but he was willing to give up the secret if she needed help. It would involve slipping out into the rain, getting his costume and coming back to grab Raina at the door and then use the shadows to travel through the city. His guess was that Raina wasn't heavy enough to bother him greatly over the relatively short distance and while hailing a cab would be much easier what mattered most was keeping her from being upset.

“So wraith, you do this often, I take it.”
"More often than I might like." Wraith replied as he collapsed his staff with practiced motions and then stowed it back in its holder on his back. Sara was muttering about having found the spot as she was scratching her back or something but that wasn't to important. Turning away he walked over to where the one gang member was still stirring as though trying to come back to consciousness and retrieved his baton that had fallen to the ground after his accurate throw. As he slid it into the second holder on his back Sara spoke again.
“Luke... Oh you’ve got to be kidding me.”
For a brief moment he was frozen... how in the world could she have identified him? His sonar was there but that wasn't a sure sign. "Who's Luke?" He asked as he turned back around. He was going to do his best to save the situation but if the sinking feeling in his stomach was any indication, this was a hopeless case.
"Sonar gave me away... but that's not enough for a sure fire identification.... cat senses... to many shadows over my face for her to see that and I'm changing my voice. How sensitive is a cat's smell? Is that my problem?
