The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Shelby... What's going on? I mean... this is pretty amazing, and I wanna check this place out, but... you got something else goin on here, right?"
She simply smiled back at him, her secret safely hidden behind lips she had forced to promise not to spill. "Maybe." Was all she said.
They left Jupiter with an easy spring, gliding through space with ease. As they passed a bright cluster of stars she reached out and let her hand glide through them. The sparkling pinpricks of light dispersed like glitter on the wind behind.
Venus was next. When she landed she took a few steps away and adjusted the basket on her arm.
"This is what it's like in my head, you know." She gestured around them at what she had created. "I think it might be like this for a lot of artists... we see it alive. Sparkling, swaying. It was always frustrating when I first started painting that I couldn't get things to match the image in my head."
a comet streaked past overhead, stuck in a never ending loop she had created. "... and now I can."
Her smile widened. "You've helped me realize how strong I can be."
Then she kept away. Toward the next planet, giggling over her shoulder in a silent invitation to a game of chase.
The next planet closest to her little Earth was Jupiter. As they neared a very muted sense of gravity gently pulled them down. In real life it would be physically possible to land on Jupiters swirling, stormy surface. In her self made world though, their feet landed and the feirce mini storms just kept swirling around their ankles like theatrical fog.
"Jupiter." She started, and pointed up into the dark space above them. There her colorful Earth sat, glowing beautifully in the dark.
"... You brought so much brightness into my life after I met you. I hadn't known how in the dark I was."
She waited a moment to let him absorb the atmosphere, before reaching for his hand again and motioning to jump again.
She still had too many planets left... she was staring to get ancy.
"Eh." She tried not to cringe at the impression. Not that it was bad... it was just... very Arnold. She sipped the coffee instead.
And by sipped, I mean guzzled until the cup was dry.
Then, instead of answering his question about the note and suprise, she set the cup off to the side, made sure her food basket was secure and shut, and reached for his closest hand.
A second later they appeared within the world of the painting. Only, instead of solid ground beneath their feet they were suspended effortlessly in a mock vacuum of space. Her detailed representation of earth floated just off to the left. It was large enough to properly portray earth from orbit. If they wanted, they could even land on its surface.
With that in mind, Shelby gently kicked in that direction until her feet met painted earth. The planet was big enough for there to still be a slight horizon, but small enough that it wouldn't take long to walk around it completely.
"There are nine planets in our solar system." She started, shifting nervously on her feet again.
I'm going to tell you nine things... one for each planet. And yes, I included Pluto for you."
She turned to him. "Earth is the first planet. Mars is the last.... " she took a little breath and looked up into his eyes.
"You make me laugh, even during the hardest times." She gripped his hand tighter, and prepared to leap toward the next planet.
Finally, after freakin' forever he showed up. The artist grumpily shoved the rest of a chocolate chip cookie in her mouth, which she had been forced to use as a substitute for coffee. "Getting better, but still not cheesy enough. Dad jokes have to make people wanna pencils in their ears."
After brushing a few crumbs from her lips, she shifted awkwardly with the basket in one hand. "So... yeah. This was my project."
Yep. What an absolutely great way to start things off. Making it awkward and completely blanking on what to do now. Good going, brain. How was she supposed to start this off? Silly puns weren't going to cut it.
"... remember when I showed you the planets in that simulation?" She blinked at him from behind her glasses, "Well... I kinda wanted to one-up myself this time. So.... how would you like to visit Mars?"
And then she waited. What if he said no? what if he had other things to do?
... maybe she'd tackle him and drag him in anyway.
Shelby was a planner by nature. She liked to have an idea about what was happening when, and why. She functioned better that way.
Saph had brought up something not long ago that she had more or less shrugged off in the moment but had managed to wiggle into the back of her mind like a neon sticky note. She had been thinking about it nonstop for several days, plotting and planning.
She had no idea what he would think, and it was kind of exhilarating.
A few nights before she was to put her plan into action, she stopped by a quaint little store in the city to pick out the most important cog in her machine. Then, upon return, she set about working on the next piece right under Saph's nose.
The painting was huge... possibly the largest thing she had ever attempted in her whole life. She'd rolled out the largest sheet of crafting paper she could across the span of one huge outside wall. It took her 35 hours in two days in order to finish it to her own specific standards.
Then, after a shower, she spruced up with loose pink curls, minimal makeup, and a long flowy maternity dress and sandals. She left a note with a chibi version of herself gleefully shoving food in her face and went outside to wait with a basket of food for lunch and her surprise.
'Saph... I'm waiting outside for you by the east dorms with lunch and a surprise. Don't be late or I'll eat all the food!'
As she waited she stared up at the huge painting. A lot of painstaking detail had been packed into it. With vibrant colors against a deeply contrasting background, dozens of planets, stars, galaxies, comets and others sprawled across the paper. She had visited the word inside it only once... just to make sure the physics she intended was working properly.
He started ushering her out, while she was trying to peek around the building. Her cheeks reddened at the accusation that she was trying to weasel out of the deal. "Excuse you! Since when have I backed out of an honest bet?!"
Affronted, she allowed him to steer her while keeping a grip on her things. She scoffed at him as he rambled. "Well, I'm sure as heck not going to try it out and about again. What a pain in the butt. Literally."
The drive home was, well, it was Saph driving so 'eventful' didn't even cover things anymore. It didn't bother her for the most part because she was internally going through a list of everything that needed to be done upon return. She needed to track down a few things and dig out the instructions again so she could make sure everything was juuuuust right. Saph was always satisfied and happy if she preplanned. He hadn't been able to get out of bed for a few hours last time!
As they pulled up homeward and she edged out of the car, she swallowed thickly. Was she ready for this again? It got harder and harder the further along in the pregnancy she got... she just didn't have the same energy anymore.
One short walk later and she stopped in front of the door, turning to maybe sorta cast one last kicked puppy look Saph's way before heading on in. Best to just suck it up and get it over with!
Shelby let out an eep of surprise, lifting the weapon like she could do something with it before her boyfriend broke free. She stepped back a little after that, willingly allowing him to reclaim the crowbar and take down his assailant like it was a walk in a park.
Sometimes she marveled at how easy he made physical things look. The guy dropped, twitching slightly on the floor before he lay still. Out cold. She looked back to her boyfriend, who was once again trying to defend his manly pride... while still bare ass naked in a basement.
"Uh-huh. I'll stake the usual against that claim." She'd only lost a handful of times before with her usual bet on the line. She only offered it when she was generally confident that she would win. "You gonna get your pants on or take everyone else on in the buff? I'm sure it would make for one heck of a story."
The artist headed over to the rope the giant grappler had dropped. What the hell were they planning to do with it? "So where to from here? Want me to hop back in a painting for oh... twenty minutes while you kick some ass?"
She looked up the stairs to where the guy had come from, before heading off to retrieve her fallen canvas.
"You try and tickle me again and I will pee, and then I will make you pay for it." Being a few months along in the pregnancy was having interesting effects on her body, which Saph seemed all too willing to torture her with.
The crowbar hit but felt funny. She'd imagined it would have stopped or something. Hadn't really seem his mutation in use a lot. His power was weird.
She grew a little red in the face when he jumped on her about her choice of sides. "Alright, alright! Settle down, it's not like a keep notes on how all of your various power facets freakin' work!" With a huff, she switched dominant hands and drew the bar back again.
"Just so you know.."
WHACK!
"This is single-handedly..."
THUCK!
"The weirdest..."
SMACK!
"Thing I have ever done..."
THOCK!
"And I have interviewed dragons and stalked sewer monsters."
She had to pause them. Her arms were starting to feel noodly.
Ambushed? By meatheads? Eh... she wasn't surprised.
After sifting through his clothes for a moment she found her painted locket and stuffed it into the pocket of her apron along with her paintbrushes.
"Why do you think they call me the Masochist, Babe... For real, though, I'm in a bit of pickle, and the six burly guys who put me here won't be gone long."
"I figure it was due to all of the stupid decisions you make and the resulting consequences." She gestured flippantly around them. "My case in point."
"I dunno how the @#$^ you got here, but I need you to pick up my crowbar and start hitting me. Hard. Gonna need you to step on that. All seven of them could be back any minute."
She squinted at him. "... Don't think you can cover up that five guys got the better of you, Mr. Masochist. Five meatheads suddenly turning into seven. Tch."
Still, she bent to retrieve the weapon. It was awkward to get a grip on it. She cursed his choice of weapon under her breath while heading on over to him, kicking his clothes with her along the way.
Once she was at his side, she eyed him an adjusted her grip on the crowbar. She figured if she just treated it like a baseball bat she might actually be able to generate some force.
"How the #@$^ did you get here, anyway?"
"Eh...Dunno?" She tightened her grip, "I set my locket on top of the dresser before you left."
Actually... the clothes on the floor looked a lot like what had been folded up on top of the dresser. Whoops.
She had picked up the paintbrush again shortly after moving back in with Saph. Partly due to the fact that she couldn't avoid it forever, and partly because Saph had moments where he gave really great advice. She tended to forget how smart that knucklehead was.
Still, she didn't feel comfortable yet with painting out in the open. Paranoia was still something she was dealing with on a regular basis. So as a workaround, she had decided to just ring some of her supplies into her paintings with her, where she would work in private. No one but her could get in. She was safe. It also helped that the painting she liked to use most often was the size of a small locket, so she didn't have to feel bad about cramming more things into Saph's room beside all of the baby stuff she was slowly gathering.
As she was finishing a portion of her current work, her stomach rumbled. A glance at her watch showed her that a few hours had passed since she had gone in. Saph would still probably be out and about, so she would probably just grab a snack and head to bed.
Wiping her bushes off on an old rag, she settled them in a pocket of her apron and grabbed her work in progress. Then she headed for the exit.
A few seconds later and she was... very confused. Her butt met something hard with a painful plop. It took a moment for her to realize she was covered in... clothes? The room had been clean when she had left, but Saph's underwear was definitely resting over her face with the rest of his clothes thrown over her.
Was this one of those kinky pregnancy things? Had he rushed home to surprise her, and she'd find him draped suggestively across the bed? She pulled his underwear from her head.
"...The @#$%?"
Well, there was Saph. Stark naked and tied unsuggestively to a chair. Why was she in a basement?
"... This had better not be some kind of side thing and you've secretly been into BDSM the whole time." She did not look pleased as she started to get up.
Oh! His crowbar had been stabbing her in the butt. Pleasent.
"I didn't even see it... Everyone was so wrapped up in the rift, I guess it got buried in the news... #@$^"
Pretty much, yeah. It was an awful thing that had happened but compared to some of the other things going on in the world it just wasn't enough to break through the headliners.
"I'm sorry... I'm here now. We're gonna get you through this."
She let him hug her, dropping her hands into her lap and staring down at the imprints of her teeth in her skin. Then, she lifted that hand and squeezed one of his arms. "It's okay." She started, working on calming herself back down with his help. "You have a life of your own. Stuff you were dealing with. I know how hard it is to see anything but what's in front you when you're dealing with things."
She looked at him slightly, before turning her chin to look off to where her father had gone. "He'll be fine. I'll go find him in a sec and explain everything. He won't hold it against you."
She glanced down at her hand again, rubbing the skin to make the marks go away quicker. "I... I don't have the best coping mechanisms yet." She sighed. "I'm still working with a therapist to get through it. She's got me on some heavy meds at the moment until I'm in a good enough place I don't need them. S'why I've been all blah lately. They make me feel off."
Truthfully she didn't like taking them anymore. She was always worried that it wouldn't be her pills in there again.
... that she'd wake up in another dark room.
She gave her dad enough time to calm himself before she went to find him. After a brief explanation, they were both back at the table and picking through their plates. "Ahem... so... uh... sorry about that Got some, uh... dust in my eye or something. Had to go wash it out."
Shelby smiled at him from across the table.
"....Anyone ever tell you about all of the embarrassing things Shell did as a kid, Saph?"
Howdy! I'm looking to open up a few thread slots and get things moving again! I've got four characters of varying personalities to play with, and am open to suggestions!
Andrea = Literally medusa, snake hair and stone-y ability. Heart of gold! Wouldn't hurt a fly! Currently working as a rotating nurse with an extra ability to help.
Elke = Teenage duplicator brat. Makes really dumb clones. Likes to get herself into trouble because her dad doesn't think she can handle being a hero!
Megan = Currently acting as a kind-of vigilante who's been working with an X-man to take down roach on the down low. She's gruff and maybe a little rude, but had calmed down a lot in recent years. Also spiders. So many spiders
Shelby = Once a human, now a mutant artist who creates pocket dimensions within her artwork. She's more or less in hiding from Roach, who's decided to take his frustrations out on her for his empire crumbling. What jerk, right?
I don't have any specific plots in mind at the moment, but I'm open to just about anything!
