The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"That is quite impressive."
He smiled, always happy to impress. "Thanks, it takes a little work but it's totally worth it. No muss, no fuss, ya know." Once his hands were clean he brought over the rabbit next to the stove top, putting the bowl in the sink to clean later. The two rats clambered up his arms with ease to settle on his shoulders while he worked.
A cut down the spine, carefully remove that, off came the legs, then the bottom from the rest. All in all, it looked like cuts of chicken meat. He grabbed a sauce pan to warm it on the stove and some butter from fridge. He looked into the fridge for a little while longer before grabbing the carton of eggs as well. "Don't usually get extra stuff like this."he said softly before glancing at the school counselor, "Actually, if you want we could share or I can at least make you some scrabbled eggs to make up for the scare earlier."

He relaxed a bit when the cashier took the money with no trouble and gave the change just the same. Stepping outside with the fish-man Alex took a sip of water. "Er, how much exactly is the bus fare here? And... how far is the stop?" It wasn't a surprising question, given what was going on. "It's two bucks and by bus it's maybe forty to thirty minuets."he said with shrug.
Not too far on foot honestly but since Tobias looked like he wouldn't be able to handle it given how hot it was. It was best to just take the bus and deal with people staring. He wondered if there would ever be some way to make this guy's day to day life easier. Custom shoes, water tubes for his gills, something. He wondered if the mansion had a pool they could use. Though, that might not be a good idea given the chemicals that were in pools.

Alex could feel his face heat up a little as the guy behind the counter commented that they looked like they were on a date. Thank goodness for the guy clearing his throat behind him, get that guy a soda, goodness gracious. It wasn't that he was embarrassed to be hanging out with Shelby or that the girl wasn't cute or anything but...he barely knew her and he knew that after this they'd go their separate ways, likely to never see each other again. Best not to get too attached.
"So what'll it be, son?"
He jerked a little at the question and found himself staring at the menus again. So many choices so little time. In the end he ask for a couple slices of cheese pizza, a double cheeseburger, fries, a soda, and a couple of the cookies for dessert. There that should definitely cover him for the rest of the day. It probably had way more sodium than he should be eating but he honestly didn't care. His powers relied on him eating enough for more than himself and he was going to do just that.
He grinned at Shelby, "I warned you, all of the things."

"You can start if you want. Ask any question: favorite color, biggest fear, whatever. Make up more rules if you want. Just be sure to keep it boring for any bystanders, you know? Oh, and replies are limited to ten minutes or less. Anything below that is fine. Follow up questions are awesome."
Nodding, Alex thought of a quick question to ask her. "Alright, how about what's your favorite animal?"he asked. That should do it. Boring enough for the eavesdroppers to just not and interesting enough for him because, well, he could very well make that animal if he ever needed to get on Margo's good side. Still it could be very telling. Liking different animal did say different things about people.
The bus stopped again and more people filtered on, some getting off. Mr. Eavesdropper seemed reluctant to go, body stiff as he glanced from the two teens to the open door. In the end the man decided to stay. Apparently where ever he was going was not as important as tailing two mutant teens. Alex sincerely hopped the guy wasn't going to start something once they got off the bus. He really didn't want the day ruined by some asshole who felt the need to harass them.

Two people still trying to figure each other out was still the strangest sensation. An awkward dance of walking on eggshells and two left feet. Neither wanting to give up conversation but both fearing saying too much, too little, and asking all the wrong questions. Alex was pretty sure he'd never get used to it. Still Margo didn't seem to bad at it, will to keep the conversation up.
"Wanna play the question game? If you want to, that is."
"Sure, but I thought we were already playing."he joked nudging her a bit. It was true enough given how much they've divulged to each other. But he was up for making a game of it. "So how do we play?"he asked in honestly, glancing from her to the window. They still had a ways to go, at least another twenty minuets and few more stops before they reached their destination. Might as well sit back and enjoy the ride.

"I know you'll like this place. It's pretty chill, but they have awesome food."
He chuckled at that, "I like most places with awesome food." Really any food place, where he could eat without worrying about paying for it. Which wasn't a lot of places to be honest. Not without the added tension of don't get caught. Still it was nice to not have that for once.
Once on the elevator he barely payed attention to the focus who were eying Ace. Though he couldn't say the same for the bird of prey. Ace, ever the curious creature, craned his neck around Alex and behind himself to eye the passengers right back. Though he made no other movements to frighten the other people. He was just making sure Alex was safe after all.
Alex followed Shelby out the elevator, down the hall, following the smell of food. He was practically salivating in anticipation.
"Feel free to order whatever you want, Alex." His dear patron said. "Oh, be careful. I might just get all the things."he said looking up at the menus. Ooo good god, all of it sounded really good. It was unfair he couldn't actually eat all of it, lest he make himself sick. Still he needed the most calorie packed meal he could think of, really squeeze all he could get out it.

Leading Tobias to the convenience store atm had been simple enough and the short walk confirmed his thoughts on the poor guy's feet. That walk was not of someone who was comfortable on their feet. Sure it wasn't too outwardly noticeable but there was something almost hesitant or careful about each step. It kind of reminded him of his earlier efforts in making mammals and birds. The bones in the feet were complex and if he didn't set them just right it could lead to bruising and pain. Not something enjoyable.
Once inside he took a moment to enjoy the cool of the store, away from the summer heat. Though he could have done without the clerk staring at them. Or rather the guy staring at Tobias. He did feel rather guilty about it all. He was a mutant too but he usually was able to get away with not being noticed. Tobias wouldn't be that lucky.
He was a little surprised by the water bottle tossed his way but was grateful nonetheless. "Thanks man." He followed Tobias up to the cashier, giving the man behind the counter an expectant look. He'd hate to have to argue with a guy to accept money. Slimy fish guy or not, the money was good and a fair trade for the water bottles and change.

Watching the guy dig out his wallet and then a card was something of a relief. It wasn't cash but it was something.
"I have a bit on here, if you know of a store around here somewhere that'll do cash back. They were more interested in money they could feel than chunks of plastic from someone as broke as me."
"Yeah, there's a convenience store just down the block with an atm you could use."he suggested. It wasn't the greatest but it was worthwhile to make the trip easier on the poor guy. He knew he could walk all the way there. But something told him that this guy wasn't built for walking and was more than likely going to injure himself if he tried. No sense in doing damage while doing good.

"Kind of awesome really. Somethings just aren't meant to last forever. We have to enjoy them while we can, before they're gone."
"Yeah, pretty cool."he said smiling. It reminded him of the swaths of spray paint that he would see on occasion on trains and city walls. But seeing something like that in a art gallery was something else. Yet it was treated the same, temporary and something to be washed away.
A paused moment of contemplation later he looked back at her. "So, how about that food?"he asked.

He chuckled at the guys disbelief. He was beginning to like giving people the good news. Really he should be getting paid to hand the information out. Do an ad campaign or something. More folks should know, it was the information age. Word of mouth really wasn't how one should do business these days.
"Yeah, really. I know, I was just as amazed as you. Couldn't believe it until I actual went and saw it for myself."he said stuffing his hands in his pockets. "It's a bit of a walk though..."he murmured looking down at the guys short legs with some worry. That and the fact that the guy had be dehydrated made him worry that an hour or so walk was absolutely out of the question.
"We should probably catch the bus. Do you have enough for bus fare?"he was pretty sure he had fare enough for himself. But this guy he wasn't so sure he could cover. Which could be a problem. Maybe he could bug Mirror for a mirror pick up...Wait no he had no way of contacting the guy. Geez he really needed a cell phone.

Oops, alright, he might have said something the had disheartened the other mutant. If the silence was anything to go by. Okay, review...ah, right, the guy thought he was harmless, as well as he had been mugged earlier, and then he, himself, turned around and said he wasn't scared of this place. That might be it. Alright how to fix that.
"Not to say that this place isn't dangerous. I'm just kind of used to it I guess. Desensitized."he said hoping that, that clarified that he wasn't ignorant of the dangers. Okay, change of subject. "So, um, your landlord was being a dick. That sucks."
He thought about it for a moment. He had already brought one other mutant to Xavier mansion, he was pretty sure it'd be okay to bring another. Sure this one wasn't a girl his age like Margo had been but plenty of the people there were adults or at least close enough. So it should be alright. "If you want I know a place you can crash that's mutant friendly and it's way nicer than this place."he suggested, "I'm kind of living there myself to be honest."

"How about some grub? I could go for a bite right about now."
Oh yeah, he had been promised food for this venture. He had forgotten all about that. "Yeah food sounds great." Though he wondered how much he could get away with ordering. If Shelby was a student that probably meant she didn't have much to spare. It wouldn't be kind to spend too much of her money.
He followed her to the next room, more abstract paintings, though on one wall of them looked like a spray painted mural. Again interesting. It looked like the artist really made the space they were given their own. Though he did feel sorry about the mural, it'd probably get painted over later.

Alex didn't mind the slim too much and wiped it off on his pants with little more than a small grimace. "Tobias, as you can see, not related to the animorph. No feathers." He chuckled at the show of fins, glad to see the guy had a sense of humor about his new adaptations. Or at least he assumed new. It was probably too early to assume things.
"So, what brings an unthreatening but apparently unthreatened kid through somewhere like this?"
Alex shrugged at the question, "The library to be honest. I'm not to familiar with the metro yet so I walked there and now I'm on my way back home. As you can see I got a little sidetracked to end up here but I'm pretty certain of where I am now. Besides that this area isn't that scary." Not when you carried a hunting knife in your bag and had the power to create vicious animals but that was beside the point.

He shrugged when she ignored him. Whatever, his powers were internal to him and kind of hard to describe to strangers. Even if he had gotten used to doing so after a while. Most folks wouldn't know all the details that went into it. Hell sometimes he didn't understand it fully and it was his dang power.
He moved on from the sculpture to take a look at the paintings. Or rather painting like sculptures that broken from the barriers of the frames. It was interesting to say the least. A 3D chaotic swirl of colors. Interesting but didn't do anything for him beyond catching his eye, so he moved on.
Eventually he found himself by Shelby again. "So where to now?"he asked, as there were two doors they could take.

"They took my rent money, and the landlord insisted on being paid up front. So now I don't even have that...You don't need to hear about my !@#$%^ luck. Sorry."
He listened, nodding sympathetically, only shaking his head when the other apologized. "Nah man, !@#$%^ luck is kind of the mutant anthem. I understand."he said smiling gentle. He offered his hand, "I'm Alex by the way, also a mutant."
He hoped that the offered hand and mutant admittance would let the guy trust him a bit more. An 'I trust you, you trust me,' silent agreement sort of thing. At least he hoped as much. From what he knew of interactions, things went a lot smoother if you gave something of yourself. There was an unspoken obligation to return the favor. Again, at least he hoped so.
