The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

There was a dragon on the mansion grounds. There was a dragon, a real life, bi-pedal, bat-winged, crocodile skinned dragon on the grounds. He had been watching it for a few days, trying to make head or tails of what he was seeing. He didn't know how he had missed something so large with how many times he had been in and out of the mansion. But there it was, sun bathing like some over grown lizard. Few people bothered it and if they did the exchange was short. A couple of times he noticed it had gone missing. He could only assume that it was not only intelligent but that when it disappeared, it had gone hunting.
Staring at it now he tried to mentally organize what he knew about the creature. From this distance he could roughly estimate it's size, somewhere around 20 feet snout to tail, maybe half a ton. Perhaps less given if the wings were functional and not purely for show. If they were functional, then the bones would be hollow for less weight. Crocodile skin as far as he could tell from a distance, probably a bit smoother if the creature really was built for flight. The spines and the mane however were interesting features. He could only chalk them up to being much like peacock feathers. Less function, more show.
He turned away from the window, preparing himself to go out and meet it. Though he was hesitant to actually interrupt it's sleep. Perhaps he could just sneak a closer look without waking it. With that in mind he headed for the backdoor, closing the door as quietly as he could before sneaking around to come up a bit behind the dragon's resting spot.
He edged closer, keeping his hands to himself for now. Despite his own want to feel the texture of the skin, the webbing of the wings, all the details that made this creature function, he knew it was probably best to observe with his eyes only for now. And boy what a weird sight it was. The wing was thumbed, just like a bats, but the legs were digigrade and more like a chickens. The muscles from what he could see were based a great deal around the legs, neck, and jaw. Made sense enough. Not exactly the build for a herbivore that's for sure. All this wrapped up in a thorny crocodile hide that probably didn't help with the drag during flight but more than likely acted as protection against attack. He couldn't stand it, he had to touch, a little tap on the tail couldn't hurt.

"Nope. It doesn't really matter. I guess I was sort of on edge, and the fact that you and Danny were trying to be gentlemen set me off. You know, it was kind of incongruous. Silly... Woah, this place is really awesome."
He opened his mouth to speak only to fall silent as she looked about the place. He could have apologized again for setting her off. But it wasn't really important at this point, she was happy and that was all that mattered. So instead he focused his energy on introducing her to the place. As much as he could, being that he had only become a resident mere weeks ago. Still he knew were all the normal stuff was. The kitchen, the living room, the bedrooms, and lastly the offices.
It was still early enough for her to call her dad and arrange all the paperwork. At this point he forgotten entirely about the gun he had acquired or that he should probably alert someone about what happened. It wasn't exactly something that he should have kept to himself. But after all that had happened, he'd rather not ruin what good cheer came out of this day.
So by the end of it Margo had officially joined the school and it would only be a matter of time before her things were brought and she was given a room of her own. He was glad things worked out like they did. This day could have been so much worse.
On retreating to his own room for the night he remembered the gun. Sitting on his bed, he contemplated the weapon that almost killed them. It was a standard thing, the kind you'd see movies, the kind that's indistinguishable from any other. Like the knife that already sat in his bag it was a tool, one that could be used for protection. In the end, sliding it beneath his bed, he decided that it wouldn't be such a bad idea to keep it.

"There's a guy from my home city who has a sculpture on display here. He does this really amazing thing with drift wood... like a mix of carving and a natural eye for shape. Call it nostalgia, but I think it's the same piece one my of friends modeled for a while back. She went to school with him at one point."
Alex nodded with interest. It sounded cool enough and it wasn't likely he was going to come back here any time soon. So why not have a little fun and sneak a peak where they weren't supposed to. "Are you sure you want too? I could always come back another day..." He smirked at her worry, "Why not? It's not like they can do anything more than make us leave if we're caught."
Besides better than doing nothing with the rest of his day. Which is what he planned to do after this anyway. A little bit of fun before going to take a nap somewhere, maybe under a cozy tree. The weather was warm enough that he didn't need to worry too much about the cold at night. However, right now, he was interested in seeing this piece she was talking about.

Ace snagged the offered treat. In the back of his mind Alex could feel just how pleased the bird was. It wasn't often that the constructs were fed anything. Alex often times couldn't afford to share his food on the off chance it'd be more than just a waste. He wondered if there'd ever be a time when he could. It was doubtful, given how he lived. He internally shrugged off the thought and went back to eating. No point in thinking on it if it was never going to happen.
By the time he was finished with most of the food Shelby was distracting herself with a sketchbook, a message flitted over the loudspeaker. Ace corked his head, looking for the source of the loud noise. "Damnit... there was a piece up there I really wanted to see, too."
Alex sipped on his soda thoughtfully, "What's the piece? We could probably sneak up there and take a peek at least." It'd be more fun than just walking away. Besides, what could be so important that they had to shut down an entire floor? Surely not anything too bad.

Alex chuckled at the look of joy on Shelby's face. The fact that she found Ace's analyzation of the greasy food cute was amusing. "... Can he have a fry?" It was an odd question but, "Sure, why not. Not like it'd hurt 'em." He picked up a fry and offered it to Ace. The bird didn't hesitate to chomp down the morsel, knowing that if it was safe for Alex then surely it must be safe for him.
Alex couldn't fault the birds logic. Though if the food had been poisoned then they'd both be screwed. But that was a paranoid thought for another day. Instead he attention was drawn to Shelby once more. "...Sorry 'bout that. I kinda...eh... forgot I'd be running into them again." She sounded more worried than she should be. So he could only shrug. "It's not a problem. They were a little weird sure but not the worst that I've met." Not by a long shot.

Alex winced at Margo's look. Right, people and their subtle needs, he really needed to learn that before opening his mouth. Part of the reason he almost preferred being alone than being with other people, almost. Couldn't say he hadn't enjoyed Margo's company up until now. The gun totting psycho just made things more difficult. Shifting his backpack and feeling the weight of the weapon he was reminded of how close a call this had been. If Danny hadn't shown up one of them would have definitely been shot.
He gave their rescuer one wave goodbye before leading Margo toward the mansion once more. It was close enough that in a few minuets time they were on the grounds and safely inside the gate. His hawk fluttered off to roost on the roof above his window, feeling that it was safe enough to leave him be.
He was beginning to notice that too, his constructs were becoming more and more thoughtful of his needs. It seemed like recently the more he used them in combat or defensive situations the smarter they got. Ace and Mary in particular, he needed to use Pick and Pocket more to see if his building theory held any water.
He didn't linger on the thought though, Margo still seemed miffed. "I'm sorry if I did something to bug you." He didn't know what exactly, could have been him giving out her first name to a stranger, could have been that he asked if she wanted to go and sit down. Could have been any number of things. But whatever it was, best to set it right now rather than later.

Alex said goodbye to the overly friendly couple and follow Shelby to a nearby table. He didn't question what had transpired there. Figuring that it was really none of his business and that if she wanted to tell him what was going on she would. Still he noticed how strange it was. People didn't usually brush other people off unless they were outright avoiding them in the friendliest way possible.
When she started eating he took that his queue to start as well, munching eagerly on one of the pizza slices. It was good, really, really good. Maybe it was his perception of living day to day scraping by but god damn did it make him happy. And it was warm, freshly cooked food! Dairy even! Not something he'd usually get his hands on.
He was so enraptured by those first couple of bites he nearly forgot Shelby was there. "... How's the grub?" Her quiet murmur broken him out of his reverie. "It's so good."he chuckled before wolfing down the first slice then reaching for the next.
Ace hopped off his perch near Alex's shoulder to the empty seat next to him. The curious bird studied the food, pecking at it once only to have Alex shoo him away.

Fire, why in the world did the bastard have to use fire?! He had been able to cut the connection quickly but not quick enough to not feel the sensation of being barbequed alive. The pain alone was nearly enough to knock him out and somehow he was still standing, still breathing through the pain. The cool of the rain was feeling so good right now, he wanted nothing more than to remove his jacket and let himself get soaked. Anything to fight back to painful information feed back.
The girl's words felt distant, muffled, while his body locked up in pain. “All right, so you can control animals or something? I’m dead, so I feel no pain and can’t die. Can you call some animals? I think we may need a little back-up.”
"That's not how it works..."he grumbled lowly. He was running out of power to pull that kind of stuff off. He had barely eaten enough to make the constructs he had made already, let alone new ones that could do damage to this guy. Not to mention material. Sure he could use some of the bodies but would it be right? These guys probably had families and homes and all sorts of other possibilities. If he used the bodies he'd be erasing their deaths, no one would know.
“Hurry we don’t have much time. I’ll distract him.”
Too late, she was already on the move, he had to do something. Dead girl or not, he doubted she'd live if she was set on fire. He had just enough power left for something that could be used offensively. He wondered over to the nearest dead body, raising his hand in an attempt to concentrate his power. Two dogs, poorly constructed and missing skin and fur and organs. They were all teeth, unblinking eyes, and muscle where it was important.
He sunk to his knees as dizziness settled in and forced himself not to pass out. He hated this feeling, his limit. He could only make so much, divide his mind so many times, before the strain got to him. This was all he had left in him. Knowing that he wouldn't be able to depend on his powers from her on out he reached into his bag and dragged out the only weapon he had, an old hunting knife that had pierced more dead carcasses than live ones. He knew it wouldn't do much against this enemy.
The two dogs joined Emily's, snarling and baring fang, readying themselves for a fight.

(Sorry if that was too short guys. Let me know if you want me to go back and edit things to length it out a bit.) "That's what anyone would have done, what I would have done back in the old days. But after that little show... Even if some miracle occurred and we did win the case, which would never happen, we'd have half the city after us."
Alex glanced at Margo and nodded. She had a point, there was no reason to call the cops in on this one. But considering who lived at the mansion, he knew a lot of them would feel safer if the cops were at least informed about this guy. They should at the very least hand over the gun. Best not to let it stray in to worse hands. With that thought in mind he went to pick it up, carefully sliding it into the back pocket of his bag. He was intent on handing it over to one of the teachers or counselors in the mansion.
"I was just so panicked, I panicked. I didn't mean to."
He was about to speak up, reassure her that she did the right thing, that in fact her little bout of guts probably saved them. But the stranger beat him to it, "Hey, uh...that was pretty brave, what you did. You knocked him down before we could do anything. I'm Danny. Nice to meet you, I guess."
Alex stood, going over to Margo and placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "This is Margo and I'm Alex. Thanks for your help Danny."he said before glancing at Margo, "Do you wanna go inside and sit down?" She definitely looked like she could take a break.

"So, is there someone looking for you? Because if they are, it's usually better to take care of these things directly. You are free to stay here. Heck, in fact most authorities are happy every time we take the mutant kids over from people who are freaked out by them. But it's better do it clean and legal, instead of eventually turning the whole thing into a legal mess."
He frowned and shook his head. "Unlikely, it's been three years. They probably assume I'm dead. The likelihood of a missing child surviving dwindles to the single digits after 72 hours after all. So they have no reason to think even I made it this far." He shoved the eggs about in the pan, making sure they didn't burn, before turning off the stove and putting a serving on each plate. "But I guess your right. The paperwork should be taken care of at least."
He put the pan and the spatula that he had been using for the eggs in the sink, then grabbed forks and knives out of a drawer. "Man, they're gonna be in for a surprise. Tada, totally not dead and totally a mutant." Without thinking he picked up the plates and stepped towards her. The second he was in her aura it was like all the connections in his head just snapped and every construct in the room turned to dust. The experience was so jarring that it took everything he had to just not drop the plates.
He took a breath and stepped back, out of her radius, feeling relieved when the sensation mostly left. "Holy crap..." He blinked several times, trying to evaluate what just happened. It was like the world had suddenly become very muffled and every small voice he associated with his constructs had been silenced. Like someone had turned off all the machines in his head, the white noise that he had grown so used to that it had become a comfort to him, just gone. It wasn't painful, no, just...lonely, very, very, lonely.

The man struggled with the bird, screaming as it attempted to claw his face, and in his fright he had dropped the gun. Then suddenly Margo was on him too, landing a few good blows before shoving the man to the ground, toppling him over. "Marry, that's enough!"Alex had shaken himself out of his stupor to call out to his feathered companion, who thankfully returned to him, flying over and perching herself on his arm.
He looked on as the stranger huddled there for a second, protecting his bleeding face and arms, before attempting to scramble for the gun. Only to have the third mutant pull a blade on him. He looked from the blade to the gun on the ground and back again. For a second Alex thought the man might try again but instead, with a barely whimper, the man rushed to his feet, turned tail and ran.
Alex sighed in relief, good thing that was over. He looked over at his feathered construct with some concern. Marry had a strong personality sure but she had never broken orders before, never acted outside the boundaries of what she had been told. It was...frightening, he hadn't ever lost control before. Still it was a good thing she had. "Well we've got DNA evidence and a weapon if we want to press charges."he commented.

Alex opted to stand, gripping the above bar and scanning the small group on the bus. They were given a wide berth, no doubt because they didn't want to get any closer to Tobias. Still a nervous knot formed in his stomach. Last time he had gotten on a bus there had been a madman with a gun, last time he nearly got shot for being a mutant. He didn't regret leading Tobias to the mansion but he couldn't help but feel a bit scared.
The bus jolted to a start, joining the flow of traffic. It was going to be a long ride that's for sure. Still better than walking. "So when we get there, we'll probably have to check you in first and find you an empty room or at least one still looking for a roommate. But beyond that I don't think there will be much of a problem."he commented, being careful not to mention the name or what it was known for.
No need to let people know anything beyond what they could see. He just hoped that even though it was obvious what they were that they wouldn't get harassed. Again, didn't blame Tobias, but last time left him a might bit paranoid of public transportation.

Alex listened and nodded appropriately during the conversation. He was surprised that neither of Shelby's friends made mention of the hawk perched on his arm. But then again perhaps they were used to weird around here.
"So... Alex, we should find somewhere to settle down and eat before all the seats are gone."
"Ah, yeah." Again he nodded, grabbing his tray from the food pick up area. "Ah, right. I totally forgot you guys were going off to eat. Would you want us to wait for you? We don't mind." He paused and looked over at Shelby at the suggestion. That was up to her, he didn't mind either way. But Shelby looked strangely uncomfortable around these to.
"Ah... no! That's okay. We were gonna wander a little bit anyway... You guys should go on ahead."
Ace scooted up to his backpack again to make it easier for him to carry the tray. The smell of the food was intoxicating and he couldn't wait to dig in. God, he was so hungry. This could possibly last him a good long while, calories wise anyway. He planned on eating as much as he could.

"Look, us freaky freaks are going somewhere just for freaks like us, and once we're out of your sight, you'll never see us again."
Margo's words didn't really help the situation, instead giving the man a new target, her. Alex stepped in front of her, ready to try and defend her. He didn't know why, maybe it was because she was younger than him, not as exposed to the world as he had. Maybe he had some miss placed heroism in him. But either way, he did it really without thinking, "Please, we're not asking for trouble. We just want to go home."
The man had opened his mouth to speak, make more threats, perhaps proclaim some sort of reason for all of this. But suddenly there was someone interrupting, inserting himself between them and the gunmen. "Hey, you! What's your problem? Picking on a bunch of younger kids. With a gun, too. Is that what you do in your spare time?" He didn't recognize the guy, didn't know if he was just a stranger off the street or a resident of the mansion. But he was enough to give the man pause. Alex saw the motion of the hand but didn't move.
"Those two aren't kids! There monsters! I'm doing what's right, they'll become dangerous. I'm taking care of this before that happens!"the man shouted, gun leveling with the newcomer's head. He gripped the gun with both hands now, try to steady his trembling. "I'm doing what's right and if you're defending them then that must mean you're one of them!"
And then something weird happened. For the first time his construct broke orders. He could feel the ripple of fury pass down their connection, Mary was pissed. So she broke the order to stay above and gather information, instead dive bombing the gunmen, like a three pound missile of feathers and rage. The attack had been such a surprise to the man, talons ripping into his outstretched arm, that he let off a shot. Thankfully the bullet merely hit the pavement but the sound itself was deafening.
