The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Margo saw where this was going. She saw where it was going somewhere in between his chuckle and his "except", and suddenly the six feet of space seemed too much between two teens trying to avoid thinking about it, and completely and utterly failing.
"Scopophobia? That would be fear of being seen or stared at or known," she helpfully supplied, trying to make light of the situation. All it did was end up sounding stupid and uncaring, though, and she gave mentally gave herself a high five. In the face. "No, but seriously...don't we all have it? Just some of us are more used to the attention than others, and some use it better too. It can be good or bad depending upon the person, and I'm just going to say you're doing a magnificent job of dealing with it so far."
A pause. The strand of hair she'd been playing with had tied itself in a knot- a figure eight, to be exact. Margo gave it a blank stare and let it drop. Well, she'd have to either find some way to untangle that or snip it off, later tonight. A metaphor, or was it literally how brilliant she was? It wasn't like gelato cared.
"After all this is over," said the girl in way of a promise. This time she would, they would. Who knew, maybe she'd even give the acquired taste another try? YOLO, unless you were a firebird who liked to ditch people. In which case your opinion didn't matter anyway.

He had given up on that line of questioning too easily, Margo knew it. He was going to ask her about it later when they were strapped into the car, was he not? Well. One could never quite avoid that talk, only hope to delay it as long as possible.
For the moment, though, her grin remained entirely unabashed.
"Occupational tourism," She mused over the map, then wriggled up onto the counter. Her stage, as it was. "Did you know, that's what Darwin did that got him started on everything we know today? Got recommended for a 3 year cruise around the globe where his job was basically to provide good company. Like, goals? Goals." She paused to appreciate the idea, then returned to her study of the map. "So, how long have you been in New York again? Where've you seen so far? I mean, not all of us can be as lucky as Darwin was, but that doesn't mean we can't be amazing tourists."
Of the city they lived in, but all the same... "Don't we take so many things for granted, though? NYC. A tourist wouldn't."

Oh golly she had not just said that, no. Not about ice cream and not about Harry Potter and definitely, definitely not about the boy's eye color.
"Harry Potter, sorry," said Margo, noting with relief he didn't recognize the reference. "I don't even know, just...never mind. Yeah, New York actually doesn't have any places with fresh pickled toads" mental cringe just at the words "-that I know of."
They left that there, thank goodness.
So. Apparently he was slightly more than a recreational soccer player and he had moved recently. Margo listened curiously enough and wondered whether that was because he was a mutant; that would account for the lack of a soccer team at his new school, maybe, or was she reading too much into things? It was hard to tell.
"I, uh, don't follow sports much. That's so a question for the inter-webs," said the girl with a shrug, then a grin. "I can only say it's an epic idea."

"Margo I must ask, won't your friends, boyfriend wonder where you have gone? I am curious."
Now at that Margo gave a little cough and fully diverted her attention from breakfast to look at Richard, if only for a moment, incredulous. "What, boyfriend? No." She shook her head, laughed. "I don't have a boyfriend, thank you very much. Friends, but not that I actually hang out with more than a couple times a week or so. Or that don't know my tendencies to disappear at will."
The last parts were tacked on for posterity's sake, but the girl was blushing. For no reason. She impaled a last bite of mushroom without looking up, and as for where a suitably amazing destination was, she took the excuse to whirl right out of the room.
23 seconds later she was unfolding a pocket sized map on the counter, legible though damp at the edges. "So. What do you say to occupational tourism?"

Now that was a question. Margo exhaled through her nose in half of a laugh in reply, "Hardcore mutant fans, as you should know. They're insane, but at least they don't ask as many stupid questions in real life. Well, maybe they would've? I, uh, didn't tell them about me."
She twisted a stray lock of her hair, which she hadn't bothered to trim for too long and probably should soon, thoughtfully in her fingers. The visit with the bird watchers hadn't been bad at all, just mostly awkward. A thousand times more awkward then the current situation, and that was saying something.
"I thought you'd enjoy it for the calories, but I hear it's an acquired taste." That was what she'd called it on the blog- an acquired taste that she would not even try to acquire. "If that doesn't suit you there's always chocolate for about half the health risks, but you know."
She grinned at the thought of a gelato date- take that, big brother with your expectations of me having a boyfriend! A friend that happened to be a boy was more like it.

Right, so he didn't want to talk about the trial. That was understandable enough and fine with Margo; she'd hear it all sooner or later and it wasn't like he had any obligation to delve into such a painful (she imagined) topic until then. She was here to listen if he wanted to vent, that was all.
Talk about an elephant in the room. Or rather, don't.
"Yeah, things have been crazy... So what have you been up to? School caught us both in its black hole but you seem to be doing well."
"Eh, you too." The noncommittal sound she made seemed somewhat hypocritical- she hated school but it was the sort of thing that had always come easily to her, although she couldn't imagine the same for Alex with all his catching up to do. "Uh, I got a job. An itty-bitty job at a coffee shop, but you know. I have a blog now too, which is how I heard about Audubon X and their little club. Also I'm doing an ice cream taste test."
With a grin, because it totally sounded like she was asking him out, "We should so go together sometime. New York has way too many good places for olive oil and goat cheese gelato, and doesn't that just sound like an overload of calories?"

"Gobble gobble." Margo toasted Richard with a turkey sound and a grin, then proceeded to do so. She forked a mushroom into her mouth, then a bite of sausage, then more of everything else. All of it was hot and greasy and perfect, and she didn't even care if she died of a clogged artery somewhere along the way.
"Nope," said the girl in between bites, tapping her phone as if to say anyone she needed to check in with could contact her themselves. It was selfish and terrible of her and she knew it, but it was her and Richard's day to have fun. Hey, but it wasn't every day you could find a new brother!
"Something amazing, somewhere amazing. What do you think?"

"Soccer, nice. Do you play for a club or something, or is it more just a weekend hobby kind of thing?" Either way it was all over the place and none that special, unlike dream interpreting. That...wasn't even going to get a comment, just a raised eyebrow. Like, what even was dream interpreting?
If he was a mutant, was it a mutant thing like the laser-vision-worthy green eyes?
"Umm, a love of all things ice cream, and gelato and frozen custard and soft serve and just about everything else? I have a blog. For my stalker pictures and ice cream adventures both, I mean." And just in case someone doubted her ability to consume custardy treats all day every day, "It's probably going to catch up with my metabolism someday, but Ben and Jerry's is too good. Also everything between that and artisan ice cream, like the type made with fresh pickled toads, uh, cream. Fresh cream."
Dang, but Ginny Weasley did NOT belong in this conversation.

His smile was obviously forced, and it was enough to make Margo feel guilty for being all hopeless. That was like, the dumbest way to react when your friend was on trial for murder- for being a targeted mutant, more accurately, but of course nobody would mention that. Alex...he would hate the fact that she pitied him and so she should probably act like nothing was wrong, except how in the world could she do that?
She slid her books onto the desk beside her and settled herself more comfortably on the back of the armchair (supposedly librarians hated this, but it wasn't like this place hadn't seen worse times), her own smile coming mostly naturally. "No kidding, right? Sorry if I interrupted your nap time or whatever. Gosh, you know how it is? It's like classes are a giant temporal black hole that leaves nothing for sleep or"
(friends which was probably the reason she hadn't talked to Alex in a year, how had that even happened she was such a bad friend)
He rushed off to get said drinks without further ado, leaving Margo not altogether oblivious to the amused glances thrown in her direction. Well then, that was that: however amusing this club might seem, she wouldn't be coming back anytime soon. At least people didn't know they were both mutants- were they?- so the shipping hadn't got out of hand...yet.
(She probably would have witnessed the face palming, only she was actually doing the same.)
His return found the girl significantly more composed. She accepted the soda with an amused smile- had he gotten her a medium size or what?- and took a sip, and that was the story of how she nearly managed to choke, again.
What did Tuesday night Margo do, other than "stalk people with cameras"?
"Ummm, I actually have this taste-test thing for ice cream and custard and soft serve and gelato going, if that counts? Not that much else. What about you, when you're not coming to the stalker clubs?"
For the record, the taste test was actually a real thing she was doing. Sort of.

Thanks, Ambrose! And now to ask unashamedly for another, if you don't mind procarstinating some more, just because you're so amazing I think I like the simpler ones and the ones with quotes and stuff the best.

Lewis, or Wodehouse? Margo, with both Tuesday night reads tucked under her arm, had just been on her way to check the books out when she saw the boy with his head in his arms, and her heart nearly stopped.
Alex.
An onslaught of memories surged at the sight of him, from window seats and aisle seats to an eavesdropper with an itchy trigger finger. If only it could have stopped there, because Margo knew- how could she not, between the video of the act itself and the interviews and the talk of the trial on every online forum and street corner, enough to drive anyone insane?
The computer in front of him had gone dim, but somehow Margo knew exactly what he had been looking at. ...This would be the worst time to tell how little hope she had in a happy ending for Alex now, not that it mattered. She'd already done so, and it was too late now for anything except a silent prayer that he didn't remember.
Perching herself on the back of a nearby armchair, the girl cleared her throat. "Is this a good time to talk? I'll go away if it's not."

Silence as the two of them sipped contentedly, Margo with her tea and Richard with his coffee. She peered right back at him through the fragrant steam that rose from her own mug and smiled at how his glasses fogged up.
After a bit he got on to the making of breakfast, and boy was it a breakfast. Bacon, sausages, mushrooms, toast... The sizzling was enough to drive a girl mad, and the aroma a thousand times more tantalizing; Margo closed her eyes and inhaled it all.
"I don't think I need to say this, but just in case? That looks amazing." She would have offered to help with something, but didn't for fear of messing it all up.

That...probably shouldn't have been as funny as it was, but Margo laughed nonetheless. She actually laughed and was just about to make some sort of smart retort when he... said she was cute? Cue awkwardness.
"Uh, cascara soda? Thanks?" Awkward smiles all around, and the girl mentally cursed herself for sounding like a total idiot and for blushing. Because, seriously? They were two high school kids at a club and it wasn't like a boy she'd only just met was a big deal, even if his eyes were the color of animated sea kelp.
She gulped the last inch of her soda to give him an excuse to go away, and managed to choke in the process.
