The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kealey had been working in the library when she got the phone call. Sam didn’t call her often, so the blond had dropped everything she was doing and answered. Her head had bobbed as she listened to his request, ”Sure Sam. I’ll be right there as soon as I can make the library self-sufficient.” He said they were in the kitchen, and disconnected the call.
The cell phone slipped back into Kealey’s pocket and she finished pushing the cart of returned books into the small circulation room. It had taken her way too long to get the catalogue in order to risk someone coming in and simply taking books. Next, the “closed” sign was set on the desk, along with the manual sign-out sheet Kealey had designed. All students had to do was write their name, the book name, and the call number. It had helped monumentally.
Everything taken care of, Kealey made her way out of the library and down the familiar halls. One thing became obvious as she neared the kitchen. There was someone very sad in there….sad and depressed…and lots of things Kealey didn’t like. Warning bells went off.
Sometimes people assumed that because Kealey could feel emotions, she automatically knew what to do when people were upset. That wasn’t the case at all. When people were upset…Kealey had a tendency to get upset. She could hear voices as she approached the door, one was distinctly Sam. The other…was female.
Into the room Kealey went, and found herself face to face with another blond. The girl was the one who was depressed. Sam was…Sam.
”You rang?” she said with a smile in his direction, then nodded to the girl.
”Hi there. I’m Kealey.” she said, bright smile in place despite the slightly dark mood of the room.

Kealey smiled and nodded when Shin confirmed her thoughts about saving people. No wonder people did this for years. It was really satisfying. Satisfying enough that was almost easy to forget all the danger and drama that had accompanied the success. Almost.
Most of the feelings were gone, and Kealey’s stomach had settled well enough that she didn’t think any ficus had anything to fear. There was still a little anxiety though, a bit of nervous energy that was stuck under her skin.
Shin offered her an out.
Training.
Kealey’s head still hurt a bit, and she had a tender goose egg on the back that was probably going to stick around for a while. Over all though, she felt pretty good. Good enough to train and pull Shin away from his greeting duties?
Definitely. She nodded her head, ”That might be a really good thing. I’ve still got a some nerves I wouldn’t mind working out.”
”I was thinking work with distractions. I do pretty well when there’s noise and things like that, but the second that thug ran into me it snapped my train of thought.”
She paused for a second and shrugged, ”I could definitely do without anymore bumps on the head though.”

Shin’s emotions seemed to move with hers. As Kealey came to terms with what had just happened, what had gone wrong, and what she could do to fix the problem for next time, her boyfriend seemed to relax too. Kealey took a deep breath and let it out slowly, a lot of the tension leaving her with the breath.
Shin said they could work on the things she’d said and she leaned back in her chair, ”Good. There’s no reason for distractions like that to cause a problem. I should have been more ready…” she trailed off, mumbling a little bit to herself. Her head still hurt and she raised a gentle hand to tentatively touch the back of her head. It stung, but not too bad.
Shin seemed impressed with the description she used to describe the effectiveness of her confusion attack on the thugs in the hostage situation. His exaggerated movements even made her laugh a little bit.
”A slam dunk?” she said, then smiled across the desk.
”Thank you…I really needed to talk. I’m sorry I worried you…or if I messed up what you were doing with that student…my brains are still a little scrambled.”
Kealey sat for a few more moments, then laughed.
”It really was great though. Knowing I actually made a difference today. I never thought I’d do anything like that. Is it always that good?”

Awkward was very quickly fading into something else, and despite the business like calm of his voice, Kealey could tell that Shin was also feeling something slightly different than he was trying to project.
Apparently it was suggested by…someone…that a person took a game break every couple of hours. It had been quite some time and Kealey smiled, turning back around for a moment to rid herself of the pesky controller. How fortuitous that they were at such a nifty little stopping point.
She stayed that way for a moment longer, thinking of an appropriate response to the question Shin hadn’t really even asked. She figured it out.
In one smooth move, the blond turned around so she was facing Shin, her legs on either side of his. That accomplished with nobody worse for wear, she grinned and leaned forward to give him a kiss, pushing him backwards gently but insistently.
”I think a break is an excellent idea.”
The rest...faded to black with Zelda music playing in the background.

At first, Shin’s expression was as unreadable as his emotions. Kealey simply couldn’t figure out what was wrong. None of the emotions a person usually associated with something being wrong were there…but there was something.
He was calm, and Kealey was confused when he said it was nothing. There was an it. Something was wrong. And after she was done with the game they could…
Shin whispered in Kealey’s ear.
”Oh…..” she said, eyes widening slightly while a slow grin spread across her features. That’s what it was. Yup, Kealey got it now. Why was she wearing long sleeves? Why was the room so warm? She nodded her head, still looking at Shin. ”Yeah.”
Here she was, in ratty sweats and one of his t-shirts, hair all a mess, and he still felt that way…man, did she love him.
Shin spoke.
Save?
Save what?
”Oh! The game!” she exclaimed, promptly dropping the controller and fumbling to pick it back up. What had he said to do again to save? She failed a few times with different buttons and finally found the right one.
Game saved. She didn’t turn off the console, or unplug anything, just like it said.
Now…the Deku tree was dead, she was supposed to head to the castle….
”Whelp. There we go…all saved up.” she said, suddenly very aware of proximity.

The Deku tree had died. Kealey frowned about that…she’d killed the spider thing…she’d made it all the way through the dungeon. Why was the tree dying? That was a bit of a disappointment. More than a bit. The cut scene had been neat though, and the Deku tree had given her a mission. She was to keep the Tri-force out of the hands of the man who had cursed him. Kealey took the mission to heart…she wasn’t going to fail.
She was going to hang out right where she was, snuggled into Shin, and she was going to win.
Or was she?
Shin wanted to…go get the bean bag chair?
Kealey turned slightly so she could look at him, ”If you want to…I’m pretty comfortable though.” she did something she’d been too focused on the game to do before. She checked on his emotions.
There was something off, but she couldn‘t quite place it. Kealey tilted her head, suddenly self-conscious.
”What’s wrong? I’m sorry I’m acting so silly…the game…I guess I’m really into it.”

Andrew didn’t seem to have any opinion on where they should go. Kealey felt bad for Shin having to make the decision, but her head was still kind of spinning. She was good at being in public these days, but she’d never been to a party of this magnitude. Why…it felt like some people were already drinking.
Kealey held on to Shin’s hand as he made a decision. They were going for food. Kealey peeked at some revelers as they moved by in Harry Potter costumes. Maybe this was going to be a “When in Rome” type of situation.
Into the little restaurant they went, and Kealey fidgeted just a little bit more. She was hungry, but she was also irritated, and frustrated, and excited, and giddy, and in love, and hateful. Another deep breath, more bubbles. The feelings receded.
They sat down, and Kealey smiled, finally releasing Shin’s hand so he could look over the menu.
Monkey…brains…? Where had he taken them? Kealey leaned forward slightly to tip down her rose-colored glasses, blue eyes peeking out of gray painted skin.
”It’s not really monkey brains, is it?” she paused for a moment and licked her lips, ”I think I need a drink.”

Kealey was unimpressed. She’d nearly said something when she’d had to fight the last three jokers. Shin had known what she was supposed to do, Kealey just knew it. He’d just sat behind her and let her struggle though. The blond sighed a bit, she supposed that ultimately the game would be less fun if he told her everything. He’d already helped her a lot anyway, probably more than he should have.
Kealey realized that at some point she’d sat up and away from Shin. Back down she snuggled. If he wasn’t going to tell her exactly how to beat the game, he was going to keep her warm and comfy while she did it.
Kealey smiled. She could handle that deal.
Down she went, further into the dungeon, pushing blocks, burning sticks, setting spider webs on fire, and falling down big holes. She did it all on her own too. She was pleased with herself. Then she got to the little guys who started shooting stuff at her. Seriously?
Up went her shield, and Kealey smirked slightly at the screen as she deflected their shots right back at them. They were stunned and she attacked! Oh, what was this? One of them was not intended to be destroyed. It gave her secrets.
Kealey would use those secrets.
If she could ever find the boss.
No really…where was the boss?
”Where is the boss Shin?”
No response. Kealey’s bottom lip threatened to poke out. Was it really another puzzle?
”Tell me!” she said.
"Look at the ceiling..."
She did. ”Ohhhhh.”
The boss was a spider. A really big…weird…spider. In fact, it didn’t exactly look like a spider, and it only had one eye. Still, Kealey shuddered a bit as she thought about what it would be like to actually face a spider that big. It was a daunting image to say the least.
Up the walls it went. Down went its massive gross hairy spider legs. Kealey dodged, and swung, and shot with her slingshot, losing more and more health. Up she sat again, moving a little with the controller as she struggled in her epic battle. She would not die, could not die. The Deku tree was counting on her!
One final strike and the massive spider fell. ”Yes!” Kealey exclaimed, moving forward to grab the heart-lookin’ thing that it turned out increased her maximum health. Man. That had been intense. She ran to the blue circle of light that would carry her from the dungeon and sagged back against Shin.
”Whew…” she breathed, ”That was kind of intense. Are all the fights like that? Are there more spiders…I don’t know if I’m okay with more spiders.”

Kealey liked the game, and she liked how much Shin liked her liking the game. Then again, maybe it wasn’t her opinion so much as their arrangement on the floor. She breathed a happy sigh, and decided it didn’t matter. School was fun, and so was working in the library at the Mansion, but they were both work. This was what Kealey wanted to do.
As she played, Kealey wondered if she would have enjoyed it half as much without Shin there, talking in her ear and praising her as she learned things. It made her feel a little silly that she was so easily tickled by his compliments, but that’s how it was and she smiled as she played and nodded her head to the descriptions Shin gave of various characters and places. ”Just how many times have you played this game, Shin? You sure know a lot about it.”
Apparently the inside of the tree’s mouth was a ‘dungeon’, and Kealey frowned as she went inside. There was so much to do! And the annoying fairy made sure she knew every little thing there was to look at. Lovely. She got the Deku nut, she got the map. Jumping was kind of hard and she had to practice a couple times before she got it down, but then she was off, through the door and into the proper dungeon area.
In the first room a little monster thing shot stuff at her out of its nose, and Kealey lost her first little piece of heart. She clicked her tongue against her teeth in frustration and quickly dispatched it…she got a clue for her trouble. On and on she went, finding many a treasure and making many a comment. The sling shot sure was exciting, because now she could do damage from afar. From there it was through several more rooms, up another vine wall, and into a room with ticking and islands.
She got a recovery heart and got her half-heart back. ”It feels like a bit of a waste…maybe I should have been more daring.” she commented, then proceeded to attack the vicious spider that had dropped in behind her. She got a token, then a compass.
Wow. There was a lot of dungeon left. Kealey wrinkled her nose, ”I don’t like the spiders.”

This…was definitely the way to learn video games, and the floor was shockingly comfortable with Shin there holding her. Kealey was relaxed, and comfortable, and so glad she didn’t have classes the next day. The game was fun, too, and she shook her head slightly as Shin explained that since Zelda was a princess, the game got to be named after her. ”So I’m guessing we’ll meet or rescue her later?” the blond said.
It only made sense. Damsel always getting herself into distress.
Shin didn’t mind showing her more of the controls, and while he did, Kealey leaned back into him more. Sure she was paying attention to what he was doing with the controller and on the screen, but the cuddling was nice too, and there was no reason to avoid taking complete advantage of the situation.
Suddenly, “Link”, had a sword and a shield. That was going to make things easier. She reclaimed the controller and went to talk to a rather rude child who lived in “Link’s” village. Kealey called him a brat, then continued on her way. Suddenly, she was attacked by flowers lining the path to the Deku Tree.
She used her new found skills to quickly dispatch them with a few well placed . ”Hah’s!” and a ”Take that, flower!”
Then she found the tree. ”Man it talks funny.” she commented a moment later. Then the tree made a request.
”What happens if you say no?” she asked…what if her character wasn’t brave enough? Could he go back to sleeping without a fairy to bother him?
She said yes. Then the tree opened its mouth.
”I was just talking to this thing…and now it wants me to run in its mouth.”

Apparently it did require one of them to move. Kealey thought about pouting for a moment, but couldn’t help but smile when Shin tilted her head up. She kissed him back and sat happily and unhelpfully as Shin worked his way out from under her.
”I dunno….” she said with a grin and chuckle when he pointed out that the kiss would be enough to hold her over. It was hard to follow through with that though …especially considering the fact that Shin was back almost before she’d finished talking.
Kealey watched the game boot up again, determined this time to make sure she didn’t mess up the name. Shin, it appeared, was also devoted to the cause. Kealey took the controller when he handed it to her and worked her way through the prologue instructions. He whispered in her ear and she laughed.
”That doesn’t make much sense. Why is the game called 'The Legend of Zelda' If it’s all about Link?" She said, moving her arms so she could be hugged better as she played.
The fairy was waking her character up again and Kealey huffed a little impatiently, ”I’m not sure I’m going to like this fairy.” she commented.
”You think you could show me those controls again?”

They made their way into Zombie-Ville and Kealey grinned as they passed another group of people in Homestuck costumes. It looked like an Aradia and a Vriska. Maybe if they really got into character later they could have some fun.
Shin still had her hand from the bus, and Kealey didn’t plan on letting go any time soon. There was a whole lot going on in this part of the Park and there were so many people in varying stages of excitement, fear, and everything else. This was going to be a lot, and every time they stood still she felt like she needed to move. The glasses weren’t helping either, the red tinting in the dark was making it hard to see. By the end of the night she was actually going to have to use the cane.
So much going on, so many lights, Kealey honestly didn’t know where to look first. Shin was happy, and excited, and so was Andrew. These were all good things.
Then Shin spoke, and poked Lemonsnout. Kealey had to laugh, and was about to make a comment, but then she was distracted by the almost alarmingly predatory feelings coming from the most scantily dressed cat she’d ever seen.
”I’m still….adjusting…” Kealey said slowly, eyes darting around behind the glasses. ”You guys go ahead and pick.” For her part, Kealey was going to take deep breaths and think about bubbles. Bubbles of emotion closing off the crowd. It started working.

Halloween! Kealey couldn’t put words to how excited she was for the party that Shin was taking her to. Not only was it in Central Park, but they were going dressed as some of the coolest characters to ever grace the internet. Best of all, they had a third person in on the joke. Man this was going to be fun. It was also ironic. Maybe not as ironic as Dave’s bro…but Kealey figured it was pretty darn hard to be that ironic.
The reason for the irony was the simplicity of the costumes. It had taken hardly any time at all to come up with hers and Shin’s. They were simple. T-shirts, black pants…Kealey had simply bought the red shoes and the black wig that concealed her blond curls. It was fun having dark hair, at least for a night. It made her feel even less like herself on Halloween, that was amazing.
The glasses had been a little harder to find, it wasn’t every day that people made glasses like Terezi’s. It was Halloween though, and after several stores and lots of digging through various prop bins…she’d found the perfect glasses.
She wasTerezi right down to the Lemonsnout plushie she had hanging from a noose attached to her belt loop.
Kealey glanced at Shin and couldn’t help but grin again at how awesome he looked, even in grey body paint. Thinking about it made Kealey twitch her nose, it itched a little bit, and the black lipstick felt funny. She sighed a bit, at least she hadn’t had to paint her arms. They’d found the perfect little grey shirt to go under her t-shirt. And her walking stick….oh man her walking stick was so cool…right down to the dragon head she’d fastidiously made from paper mache…any imps they came across were totally in for a beating.
Simple costumes.
Then there was Andrew’s.
That, had been significantly more complicated, and had meant a couple of long nights during the previous week. It had been worth it though…so worth it. Andrew made a great John. She squirmed a little on the bus seat. She couldn’t wait to get in character and pretend she could taste and smell colors.
”Have I mentioned lately that you have the best ideas ever?” she said with a quiet grin and reached over to grab Shin’s hand. ”We should win every first prize they have.”

Awkward? How could it get awkward? Kealey let it pass for the moment and decided to ask later what Shin had meant by that statement. The game had asked for her name and hadn’t given her any specifications…so it had gotten her name.
Hrmmm. Apparently her mistake had been big enough to warrant a reset. Kealey frowned slightly at the game she’d started…she was only a few steps in. If there was a time to start over and fix the name…
It could wait.
Once she was comfortable, Shin held her hands and guided her through the basic functions of the game. It seemed simple enough, but Kealey figured once Shin stopped guiding her hands it would be a little different.
She knew the basics soon enough and Shin moved his hands so she could practice. He watched for a few more minutes, then asked a question that caused Kealey’s head to snap up. She turned slightly so she could look Shin in the face with a questioning raised eyebrow.
”Really?” she said, then shook her head and laughed. Of course he ws being serious. ”Yes, I think that would be awkward enough to require a reset at this early stage.”
She paused for a moment, ”Does that mean one of us has to move though? I’d like to change my mind of that’s the case. I might need more controller lessons.”

Oh man. Was he offering to let her wear the hoodie? Kealey tried not to be too excited by that idea. It was just a hoodie…but it was Shin’s hoodie. Her favorite hoodie of Shin’s. This was a definite improvement over the tone of a few minutes previous. Shin was calming down, actually letting some of those heavy emotions go. Kealey was pleased, she was helping.
She showed him her project and he liked it. That was good, Shin had good taste. If he liked it, then chances were she was doing a good job. She also liked the words he used when he described the colors. She repeated them, committing them to memory so she could apply them to the rest of the dress, or at least the description. ”I’m glad you think it’ll be okay.” it was good having the opinion of someone you trusted explicitly.
Next was some talk about the library and Kealey shrugged her shoulders and frowned a little. ”I guess not. I didn’t do much to stop it though. That was all you.” she said with a little smile, remembering how he’d torn through a wall to help her.
”All the superficial stuff is fixed. I’m sure they’ll be waiting on new copies of books for ages though. There were a lot in there that either got water or fire damaged.”
She could feel Shin sharing her feelings on all the practicality, and wasn’t particularly surprised when he pointed out that making pretty things might be a nice break from the practical. Kealey nodded her head. ”I agree…” she ran her hand over the material again, ”I’m making them all to fit me…but I don’t know where I’ll ever wear things like this.”
She looked up just in time to see Shin make colorful shards appear and disappear and she grinned as she took another drink. At this rate the wine would be quickly gone...but it tasted good, and felt good, so Kealey just shrugged to herself and.
