The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The reaction was about as he had expected. He had only met her this week and here he was, moving too fast. Her usual brightness drifted off into a gaze. She was enjoying the sunset but also was drifting off in her mind. He enjoyed the setting of the sun with her and then let go of her hand. "Well, ready to go by the shop?" A change of pace would be good for both of them. He waited with her as the elevators opened and walked in with her. The ride down and out seemed much quicker, but alot of his anticipation was gone.
He hailed another taxi, since she seemed to enjoy the initial ride. They set off to the Park to see this place. The shop, as obscure as it seemed to be on the outside, was a wellspring of possibility. Tarin seemed to be interested in the Mansion, Ghost was interested in spirits, and he was interested in making some kind of life for himself. He had hoped they might find somewhere to sit and talk. He would no longer set out to pursue her, it really was silly at this point. But he still wanted to know about her. She was an enigma and he wanted to unravel her, know some of her secrets. All in due time.
"I took five steps off the plane, headed for school... I didn't even make it out of the airport."
So they had taken her that quick. It was a shame, not only for the obvious reason of her destination, but that she didn't get to see anything. Here he was trying to get fresh and all she wanted to do was enjoy the place she had looked forward to seeing for so long. He took a mental note of it but it was so hard when she smelled so good. Had he sniffed any closer, he would have probably received a broken nose for it. She jumped back quickly, so he tried to regain his composure and listen to her, playing off his close proximity.
She mentioned how nice it was to blend in. It truly was. He was happy that he had not had to use his abilities on anyone. The thoughts of pain and darkness were spirited away, perhaps due to both Ghost's company and the prospect of working at Tarin's. He stepped back towards her as they enjoyed the sights. The sun was going down and it would be brilliant, the clouds spread in a way that made them almost a blank canvas for the natural masterpiece that would take place shortly.
A gust of wind came from above. It was strong but brief, knocking a drink out of someone's hand and carrying another's hat off into the night air. he reached out as they looked onward and took her hand. When she looked at him, he said." Just to make sure you don't blow away." He smiled and winked. Not too much, but enough.
She had breezed through the lobby. Garrett had to quicken his pace to keep up with her. When they had reached the elevator, there were a few other tourists getting on, so he placed himself next to her. Her enthusiasm was contagious. She seemed unaware of it, but the others in the elevator seemed to brighten with her arrival. She was truly a breath of fresh air. She shot out of the doors and out to the observatory as soon as the doors opened. Garrett smiled and nodded to the others. "Go ahead." he said. Courtesy wasn't lost on him, rather he thrived on it.
The wind was kicking up a bit. It seemed as if it had come to greet her and share in her excitement. She pointed out various places she had been too while he looked onward. It was hard for him not to just look at her, but his efforts to prevail over his emotions was still holding strong. " I always avoided this place when it was busy. I was afraid I might have an attack. I didn't fear the idea as much as where they might take me if and when they found out I was a mutant. But now after the Registration Act has been repealed, I feel like I have every right to be here. Especially since I don't have to worry about any attacks." He wanted to talk to her about her feelings, but time was long.
He put two quarters in the binoculars and pointed them at Tarin's shop. He held the binoculars at the spot and showed her. "That is the shop there. We'll go there next. I could tell you were excited to go there." He had moved it slightly so she had a hard time seeing it. He stepped behind her and looked over her shoulder, adjusting the binoculars and pointing out things to look for. It really blended in with the other buildings. How did anyone know Tarin was there?
"Now I'll get to see the New York that Garrett sees."
Well, it will be a nice, packaged version. No reason to see junkies, prostitutes, food kitchens or shelters. Those things were the past and would fall under the description of what Garrett saw. He was glad to see her so excited. He had to assume that her knowledge of Japan brought her from there. Maybe she had never been. She did have that starry eyed look that many tourists have when they came for the first time.
She seemed to be interested in the shop a great deal. Again, he did his best to prune his ego. It had to be something dealing with spirits. " I am sure you are welcome anytime. I am going to try to get some items in there so he can make a little more money. Tarin's a good guy. Of course, I have only met him once." He certainly seemed genuine enough. That brought another detail to mind. "Oh, I don't remember if I mentioned before, but he is a mutant like us. Double bonus." He looked up at the rear view again. The cabbie's eyebrows arched, perhaps out of fear or anger. Either way they had arrived, so he could get over it. He stepped out of the cab and paid the driver, leaving the door open for Ghost.
As she stepped out on Fifth Avenue, the cab pulled away. He flourished and said, "Ghost, I present to you the Empire State Building." He pointed up about a quarter of a mile to a spot near the top. "Here is where you will see all of my New York and all of its blinking lights." They made their way through the lobby, as Garrett pointed out the sushi bar and some of the coffee shops inside. After Garrett paid for their tickets, they stepped into the express elevator to the 86th floor. The Observatory.
As they headed off to the mystery destination, Garrett turned to Ghost. "Nice to get out and enjoy the evening, huh?" He was surprised at her zest to go out. He tried hard not to let his ego make him think it was all about him. He would be as cool as possible and just enjoy the time he spent with her. The breeze coming from the window was blowing those silken locks of white around a bit. He was mainly concerned with the look of brightness and happiness on her face. He'd go anywhere to keep that look up.
They passed the Park on the way through. "Maybe after we enjoy the lights, I can show you where the shop is. Or we can get something to eat. Whatever you like." , he said with a smile. He caught a glimpse of their destination, looking into the rear view and nodding at the look the cabbie gave him.
He had been primping in the mirror what bit he could. Being virtually hairless had its good points as shaving was unnecessary. He brushed his teeth and then grabbed a jacket from his closet. It might be cool where they were going. He had thought of it the moment she had mentioned blinking lights. It was a place he had gone many times on the streets. This would be the first time he would be paying though. There was always a free way in, you just had to look hard enough.
When she popped in, he came out and locked the door behind him dutifully. From there they went out and got a cab. Before they got to the cab, Garrett said' "Wait a sec." and talked to the driver about their destination. Then he turned and nodded to Ghost, coming around and opening the car door for her. He had thought about the fact that she could have literally flew into the window, but this wasn't a time for abilities, it was a time for friends.
"Should... we celebrate or something? We could go watch a blinking light or something."
He laughed out loud at the prospect. He knew she was joking, but it was nice to hear some humor from her. It only made her shine brighter. "Celebrate, absolutely. Blinking light? Hmm, well I think I know of some lights we can look at. Would you like to go out to the city with me?" This was the opportunity and this was the time to ask. He continued his pseudo-stoicism as he got more and more excited. Nothing could take these times away from him. He had certainly put the effort in on everything so far, it was about time that he relaxed a bit and had some fun. Who better to share good times with than her?
He stood from the bed and looked in his closet for socks and his shoes. He hoped he wasn't getting ready for nothing, but he felt he had a better than average chance of getting her to go with him. If she was as happy just sitting here talking to him, she would certainly have a good time enjoying the city with him. He also still had a good bit of money left since he had thrifted clothes and not had to pay for anything at Tarin's shop. He tried to act as nonchalant as possible, but he was buzzing with hope of her saying yes.
After he got dressed, he met with the DocProf out in the main room of the Infirmary.[white]"I think we may have had some success. I would be careful though, to make sure you avoid triggers that caused the seizures before. Take your time with it. And definitely follow up with me over time, so we can check on your progress."[/white]Garrett listened and nodded. He was only beginning to set in. Here he was, talking to a doctor as if it were some outpatient procedure. But he might NEVER have a seizure again. His smile began to widen on its own. He wanted to hug the man again, but maybe he would leave the hugs to once a week.
He extended his hand to shake the DocProf's in gratitude. The DocProf took it and gave it a good squeeze. "Thank you so much, Sir. I really appreciate it. I would definitely enjoy returning, perhaps we could find other things I can do or find ways I can help you here." The DocProf smiled and nodded, adding,[white]"Yes, yes. Well, let's leave the power training to the other teachers. Perhaps you should seek out Neena and practice in the Danger Room. But if we can find anything else for you here we will. If you don't mind though, I have alot of work to catch up on since many files were destroyed."[/white]
Garrett nodded and chuckled as he was turning to go. Yes, I do tend to run off at the mouth when I get excited. It had been a long, long time since he had felt so much positivity and good will, though. He was glad he had come to the Mansion. The people, the training, the food, the good naturedness of it all, and of course, Ghost. He walked back to his room with a spring in his step. No time like the present to get those clothes sorted and get his room straightened out. Another good day.
While Garrett had been talking, he had noticed how Ghost seemed to drift away as she watched the incense burn. Incense was a focus for air elementals, so it would make sense that they would be interested in them. She seemed to light up when he was talking about the shop. Perhaps she needed a medium herself. Garrett had no interest in speaking to spirits. He feared that those he had tortured in the camps might come to haunt him without the help of a channel.
"A Hindu Temple? Interesting. I hope we both find a new beginning here at the school." Together. he added from the safety of his thoughts. The more time he spent around Ghost, the more time he wanted to. It wasn't merely her appearance, which was beautiful to Garrett, but just her way. He could see why others gravitated to her. Perhaps it was her light, airy way in a time where things were so heavy.
"Then... I went for some coffee."
He thought it was particularly funny that she seemed to put the emphasis on the coffee rather than the man with four arms. She hesitated on mutants too. So many like him had felt apprehensive of humans and being around them in a group. But he felt that they had rights. Not only were they as good as humans, they were better. Humans generally fear and destroy things they didn't understand. But that gave no human the right to judge. "Five all together huh? I am surprised they didn't call the riot squad." , he said with a chuckle. "And what do you mean this four armed guy wrote things to them? Like a note?" What was this, passing notes in homeroom? Four arms could do alot of passing, he thought.
She looked up at him for a moment and their eyes met. Garrett wished he could put every moment like that in a bottle and have it whenever he liked. Her soothing brown eyes were so easy to look into. He smiled at her glance and then said, " Oh, I went to the Infirmary and got some help from the DocProf. I may not have seizures anymore." He said it like it were a common thing, but inside he was very excited at the prospect.
Lying on his stomach, his back exposed to the DocProf, Garrett thought about how things had changed so much for him for the positive. He felt the doctor's hands on his spine, his fingers running over the vertebrae. There was a peculiar sensation, as if his nerves were iron filings and a magnet was running over them, they stood at attention as his fingers passed over, then relaxed as they passed. [white]"Alright, I am going to try to find the initial manifestation now. Let me know if there is a problem or if I need to stop, alright?"[/white]
Garrett nodded and put his head down on his arm, blocking the light out. He inhaled and exhaled in a slow fashion. Inhaling through his left nostril, exhaling through his right, stimulating the Ida and Pingala neural routes. He felt the doctor's hands flat on his spine. He was concentrating and focusing , trying to ensure that he didn't activate his powers on the man. There was a warm sensation in the middle of his back, spreading at first over his spine and then all through his body. It was such a gentle feeling, so unlike the violence of his usual activity. He visualized the golden light of the mutant's powers coursing through him, adding to his own.
The warmth stopped and he heard the DocProf say,[white]"Alright, you can sit up now, my friend."[/white] As Garrett leisurely rolled over and sat up, he noticed the DocProf's eyes were misting a bit. "Are you okay?", he asked. The DocProf dabbed his eyes and nodded. [white]"Yes, yes. You have alot of pain and bad memories in there. I hope I did what was necessary. I'd hate to have to relive that.[/white]" He put his hand on Garrett's shoulder. [white] Go ahead and get dressed, we'll talk out in the main room."[/white]
"Looks like you've been busy. Where'd ya get all of this?"
He reached over and got a few carrots from her as he finished folding up clothes from the trash bag. "I got the clothes from the Salvation Army thrift shop. Got lots of clothes for very little money." He was proud of his frugal nature. "As for the incense and the mirrors, I think I may have gotten a job today. I found a shop near the park where a spirit medium practices. The guy seems really cool and he is also a mutant like us. He is going to let me work there and I am going to help him learn about the spiritual world." He was smiling. It really was a sweet deal.
When the clothes were all put away, he used the trash bag to put his dirty clothes in. He wandered around the room, picking up socks and clothes, putting them in the bag, then putting the bag in the closet. "All finished" he said, sitting on the edge of the bed near her. He drank some juice and added, " Feng Shui? Yes. Nothing official, as I don't really have the right kind of space to do it properly. I was going to hang these mirrors in the room to correct the energy flow in the room, however."
So she did. It looked like it might be nap time right after some Dora or Blue's Clues next. The idea made him smirk, but there was no way he would unleash his sarcasm on her this early. "Great. Come in." He stepped from the doorway, revealing some of the new items. He smiled and did a stage bow and a bit of a flourish. "You're always welcome here."
When she asked if there was space on his bed for her, it took a Herculean amount of willpower not to mention the many things he would have liked to. He decided on a different tactic. " Take all of it. I still have some arranging to do here." He started taking the small hexagonal mirrors from the trash bag and placing them in a stack on the nightstand. " Would you mind closing the door behind you? I don't want to offend anyone who doesn't enjoy incense." Now that was impressive. Even made sense! he thought.
Garrett had taken a shower to wash the electrode gel residue from his body. It may say odorless on the tube, but after you smell it for years, it isn't. That and the fact that everything was still sticking to him made him go right in. When he had come out, he put on some boxers he had bought while he was out and put the clothes from the trash bag into the closet. He stood there, staring into the closet, amazed. Not only did he have his own room, but a wardrobe too. He set out a few incense burners and lit some sandalwood cones, his favorite scent.
In the bag there were still the small mirrors. As he decided on their placement in the room, there was a light knock. He heard Ghost's voice. A voice he had missed. " Be right there." he replied. He almost went to open the door and realized he was still only in boxers. Not the way to answer the door. He hurriedly put on a pair of khaki shorts and a random T-shirt from the closet. This one was maroon and said Paul's Ferry Day Camp on the front. He opened the door, the scent of the incense intermingling with the scent of Ghost made for a stunning combination. "Hello, my friend. What brings you here?"
Garrett had changed into the gown and put his clothes and shoes in a tidy stack on a chair in the room. It looked like every other room he had been in so many times before. The only difference was the lack of outdated magazines and health pamphlets. There was a knock on the door to which he replied, " I'm all dressed." The DocProf then came in to the room with a chart. So here comes the questionnaire., he thought to himself. [white]"So, I guess you are out of medication? Usually seizures can be managed with a prescription. I could get that updated for you if you like.[/white]" Garrett smiled and replied,"Well, my mutation allows me to give others seizures and pain. I assume it does other things, but I spent alot of time unconscious in hospitals, so I never had an opportunity like I do now to try to do something about it. I read up on the nervous system a bit and there are many things I could probably do, given time." The DocProf's eyes lit up, worrying Garrett. It was the same look of excitement that many doctors had before. Like he was a new toy. The DocProf could obviously see the worry, saying"[white]No worries, son. I have no intention of hurting you. It's the farthest thing from my mind.[/white]"
He believed the doctor. Even with his past, he found this particular doctor to be very reassuring. Whether it was his kind eyes, his bedside manner, or the fact that he himself was a mutant, it was certainly a welcome change from the ones he was used to. After the usual questions of blood type, sicknesses, medical history, the DocProf put the chart down and said,"[white]OK, so, when was the initial seizure?[/white]" Garrett had to think back. So many. "The first would have been when I was 12 or 13. I'm not sure which." To this, the DocProf answered, "[white]It must've been the initial manifestation of your mutation when you experienced puberty.[/white]" The DocProf nodded to himself."[white]Well, let's take a look. Would you mind lying down on your stomach? I am going to try to find what I can through your spinal cord.[/white]"
Garrett had returned from the City and Tarin's shop motivated. When he had first arrived, he had felt the healing powers of the DocProf and was amazed by it. Yet, due to his time in the Camps, the idea of volunteering to enter any type of medical facility was taboo. But these were auspicious times. So many things had happened of late that were so good, he had hoped this would be to. He dropped the clothes and items off in his room and locked the door, heading toward the Infirmary.
As he approached the entryway, he heard some shuffling inside. He peeked around the door, hoping for a peek, but instead found himself looking right into the eyes of the DocProf. "[white]Well, hello again.[/white]" said the DocProf. "[white]I wondered if you might end up stopping by.[/white]" He was smiling as he looked at some charts in his hand. He then motioned for Garrett to enter.
Garrett was sure of himself but his body was still a little hesitant. He managed to step into the room. It seemed to be mostly in order, just some paint and a bit of sweeping and filing and all would be normal. "Yes, I wondered if I might be able to do something about the seizures I have, with your help."
The DocProf seemed to grin a bit."[white]With the things I have seen go on, anything is possible. Perhaps you could change into a gown and wait in room one.[/white]" He handed Garrett a green, folded paper gown and pointed to the room on the left.
