Pajamas: Garrett sleeps in the nude, unless he just happens to fall asleep clothed.
Personality: Calm and quiet. Garrett generally remains reserved and calm, preferring to listen and then negotiate. He has a cruel and violent streak which he does his best to stifle, but it can come out at the worst times.
CharacterPersonality: The years have mellowed Garrett out somewhat. He used to be pretty violent and extreme in his moods but spending lots of time in the tropics really gave him lots to be thankful for. He is generally friendly with strangers and friends alike, as it is sort of necessity with his job and lifestyle. He avoids conflict, mostly because he knows where that can eventually lead.
Hobbies/ Interests: Most fun things. It varies. Personal interactions with the opposite sex are awesome.
Job or part time job and description: Garrett found that with his mutation that he is possibly the best masseuse ever. Ask his clients. Pain melts away, other sensations are heightened. Hey, give him a try if you don't believe him!
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: He prefers that you bathe before a session. Definite concern. Biggest concern is for his fellow mutants and their treatment, though. Mutants don't get charged, but tips are okay.
Special talents: Karaoke
Morality As a Taoist, and perhaps as a side effect from his tumultuous history, Garrett prefers to keep things balanced, both in his life and in his mind. What might seem an impossible task for some is a lifelong journey for him.
Mutation description:
Neural manipulationGarrett is able to control his own and others' nervous systems. When Garrett has access to a neural map, he is able to manipulate it in several ways. His first expression of power was a simple transfer process through touch. When he began having painful seizures, he could transfer the seizure and pain to another through touch in order to relieve his own pain. Over time, Garrett has learned to manipulate the pain receptors on others' nervous systems, effectively giving him the ability to cut off input or amplify input.
Strengths: If Garrett has touched someone and spent a minimum of five minutes in close proximity (6 feet or closer), he will be able to initiate Sensitivity Transfer or Sensitivity Intensification/Diminution without another touch.
- Sensitivity Transfer: Garrett can effectively transfer any input he experiences to another by touch. This includes pain, seizures, pleasure, and sensory input.
- Sensitivity Intensification or Diminution: Signals that are already present in a neural system can be amplified or lessened by Garrett through touch. This includes all input: pain, pleasure and sensory inputs.
- Affecting Motor Control: By touching, Garrett is able to cut off all input to a localized area of the body, effectively immobilizing body parts. If Garrett stops the sensory input to the brain, a seizure results. The area affected starts at the point of contact and the longer contact is maintained, the further the input neutralization can spread.
Weaknesses: All of Garrett's abilities require physical touch to initiate the use of his power. Having touched someone, he is able to continue previously initiated power usages even if his physical contact is broken (with the exception of Affecting Motor Control, see below.)
- Sensitivity Transfer: Garrett must have sensory input to be able to transfer that input. He cannot call upon past experiences, the input must be currently active in order to transfer. For example if Garrett is stabbed, he can then pass the feeling of being stabbed to someone else. He cannot, however, make someone feel as if they've been stabbed before he has experienced it. He cannot implant false senses, only what is present.
- Sensitivity Intensification or Diminution: A signal must already be present in order for Garrett to manipulate it. Garrett cannot amplify or lessen anything but the true input. Only one sensory input can be amplified at a time and all others will be slightly lessened for the duration of the amplified input. Garrett's brain can only process so much information at once. For example, if Garrett has amplified his sense of hearing, will not be able to taste, touch, see, or smell as well as he normally could. The more he amplifies one sense, the more he will loose the others.
- Affecting Motor Control: Garrett must maintain physical touch for this ability to work. As soon as physical contact is broken, Garrett's power will start to recede as fast as it spread.
Secondary mutation description:
Neural SynchronizationThrough Neural synchronization or "neural mapping" Garrett can see the spindles of nervous fibers as paths of light that extend into every part of the body. These paths of light overlay his normal sight.
After coming into physical contact with a subject, Garrett is able to synchronize with their neural pathways. Every time he sleeps his neural map cache is emptied. He must physically touch and synchronize with subjects again upon each meeting (provided he has slept between meetings).
Alex Grey is a fantastic example of what Garrett might see:
Generic Full Body SynchronizationPsychic? Heh.Prolonged contact leads to more in depth... synchronizationStrengths:This power furnishes Garrett with a special nerve-vision that allows him to see a person's nervous system and allows for more precise neural manipulations. It also allows for distance manipulations. If Garrett has synchronized fully with a neural system, he may forgo his touch limitations.
Neural Synchronization also allows for a nerve version of X-ray vision. Since Garrett is only able to see as far as the nerves extend and nerves do not often extend out to clothes, he can see the true extent of the body. This means that normal illusions or body alterations cannot be seen through his Neural synchronization.
If Garrett has synchronized with a person on numerous occasions, the mapping grows familiar and the process goes faster.
Weaknesses:For a generic full body synchronization, it takes Garrett a minimum of one minute of continued contact and concentration. It is more common for Garrett to have an incomplete synchronization starting with the point of contact and branching out from there generically. After a generic body synchronization is achieved, finer details will branch out with continued contact. Full, in-depth synchronization takes a minimum of five minutes of contact and concentration.
Garrett does not retain any neural synchronizations after achieving REM. He must re-synch virtually upon every meeting.
Physical AbilitiesGeneral Physical Capabilities: All normal, though through meditation and yoga, his flexibility is above average.
Fighting Style: None to speak of. Garrett never particularly cared to throw a punch. Why bother?
History of your character:Garrett Wills was born to a working class family in Delaware. He was always a quiet boy, but he was intelligent and caring for the most part. He tended to keep to himself and enjoyed reading a lot. His family was poor, but they loved him and did their best to take care of him. Until puberty came and the bad times started. He was in 5th grade at the blackboard, doing a math problem his teacher had asked him to do. The numbers started to blur and he felt a horrible sensation, the last sound he heard was the grating of his fingers against the board.
He woke up a week later in the hospital, attached to a respirator and various electrodes and IV's. His family was nearby. He couldn't tell what was happening. The pain returned, like a living knife moving through his body and he slipped away again. On the outside, he was having seizures and neural misfiring to the point that he didn't seem to regain consciousness. His family, having limited funds and a new baby on the way, decided to sign him over to the state, thinking he was ultimately brain dead. What would have been possibly a six month stay became a grueling 2 years, since he was kept doped up on sedatives for the most part.
One day in the convalescent home he didn't know he was in, the medicines that had kept him numb weren't administered for some time, due to lack of funds. He woke up all at once, though his body wouldn't move due to atrophy. The living knife was moving about, but he couldn't communicate nor do much about it but groan. A nurse came and touched his arm, seeing his activity and all at once, she screamed and fell to the floor. When the others came, they found her convulsing and a small, peaceful smile on Garrett's face. This particular nurse left and wasn't seen again, but they found Garrett had become cured, though it took another year for him to speak and to walk again.
Once he was able to get around on his own, he was discharged, but as he was still a minor and his birth family had moved on, he became a ward of the state, moving from foster homes to group homes. His seizures would still return and an "incident" would occur due to someone trying to help him and he would soon be moved to yet another, more detached place. This, of course, had an effect on his demeanor and social skills, but he bided his time and tried to understand what was going on in the meantime.
When he was 18, he was released from the state on his own, with a small bit of money and a smaller public housing room. He drifted from job to job, his own medical problems and his detachment from others not making him much of an employee. He eventually found himself homeless, and this would be the end of the story, but a significant event of late changed all that.

The smell of garbage. No matter how long you live in it, it just doesn't become natural. Not while you remain human in any respect. He must have had an episode, his limbs and joints still stiff and aching, a bit of drool plastered to the side of his cheek. He sat up slowly, wiping it away and trying to focus. His feet were still twitching? That couldn't be. He rubbed his eyes and saw a small dirty old man pulling his shoes off, seemingly uninterested in his being awakened by it.
"Whaa...what the hell?"
The beady little rat like eyes darted up at him, a green decayed smile turning to a nasty scowl in an instant. It replied' " Shut up yooouu! Yer lucky I din't take yer pants tooo, ye lil freak. Don't get any ideas!" The old man pulled a small, rusty straight razor from his trousers, waving it at him, Garrett's shoes tightly clenched in his other. He started to back away, muttering and cursing.
Garrett knew he wouldn't last long without shoes. He had barely managed this long with them. The fear and the panic, combined with the sight of the razor caused him to feel that living knife, but it was different somehow, this time.
" Nooo!", he cried, his arm outstretched at the bipedal vermin. He could almost see that knife of pain in his own hand. "Stop!!"
And the man did. All at once. He heard a bit of a whimpering gurgle and the thief dropped to his knees, the shoes and the razor hitting the ground as fast as he did. Garrett rose to his bare feet and walked over to the man, who was now face down in filth. He bent down and got his shoes and put them back on, his eyes still staring at the man,a strange feeling, half terror and half amazement coursing through him. He walked down the alley, never looking back.
