The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Garrett was doing crunches on the floor of his room when he heard a knock at the door. He rose and grabbed a towel, wiping the sweat off as best he could. Without any body hair, he appeared to sweat alot. He opened the door, hoping to find Maya on the other side. Instead, he found another good friend. The DocProf.
"[white] Hello, my friend. I was wondering if you could come by the infirmary again when you are finished doing whatever you were doing. Neena had wanted to talk to you concerning your abilities and I believed I could be of assistance, having seen what was going on first hand.[/white]"
"[yellow] Absolutely![/yellow]" Garrett exclaimed, a smile spreading wide on his face. He had been waiting for just an opportunity to find more out about his abilities and having the DocProf there put him at ease somewhat. He respected Neena and the last thing he wanted to do was cause her any serious, lasting injury. Unfortunately, using his powers meant that she would definitely have some short term malaise.
"[yellow] Just let me get showered and dressed and I'll be right over.[/yellow]" The DocProf nodded and replied, "[white] Of course, Garrett.. We'll be waiting.[/white]" He then smiled and walked away. Garrett was excited and nervous at the same time. He hurriedly jumped in the shower and changed, still a little damp. He headed out and down to the Infirmary.
One hedge made all the difference in the world. Between little Katrina and petite Maya, it was like an imposing barrier, splitting up the world. Garrett couldn't help but snicker when he heard Ghost yell Howdy. It sounded like Minnie Pearl was speaking through her. Price tag and all. He really had to maintain his focus on his new friend here, Maya always distracted him. It was natural to Garrett.
He looked down after moving the chair and bent over slightly to speak to the young lady. "Hello, Katrina. What do you mean by officially?" Had she seen him? Undoubtedly so, but when? It occurred to him that he really did have a bit of tunnel vision when Maya was nearby. It was a nice change from the ever-present awareness, also known as paranoia, that usually dominated his appearance. The Mansion was doing a world of therapeutic good, even if he never learned another thing about his mutation.
He saw Ghost drop out of the window, well, nearly float from it, and then turned his attention to little Katrina. When she asked him if he was a teacher or a student, he couldn't help but have a nearly full belly laugh. "Well, my friend, I must assume I will be a student. I am not entirely sure what I could teach anyone." He mulled over the thought. He was happy to help anyone he could, but could he actually educate somehow? And if so, what would he teach them? Another meditation for another time. By now, Ghost was nearing and he was anxious to hear Katrina's reply.
The iris was an ocher yellow at its base, opening into a warm amber and finally exploding in a brilliantly soft orange. Garrett's lids were half closed, as they usually were when he meditated. He thought of the iris and in his mind's eye, he saw it from above, opening slowly and closing. Patterns of light raced around the stem in a helix, rising to the petals and then descending. It took only a moment to recognize a chakra. But which one? From the heat of the day and the colors of the iris, he assumed it to be the tumo chakra. His hand slid over his solar plexus, the location of the chakra in his body. he could feel the ganglia of nerves pulsating in time with the opening and closing of the flower.
Tumo was the source of action and power. It was also the heat chakra, the ones the Nepalese Sherpas used to melt ice around their bodies in the Himalayas. The heat of the sun and the heat from his core was seemingly overwhelming, almost palpable. He wondered if he couldn't find all sorts of inner workings with the chakras and their related nerve bundles. Perhaps the iris was telling him this.
Perhaps..
“Oof! Sorry,” Katrina apologized a bit loudly, then added a softer apology for her original volume, “sorry.”
He had also felt her weight on the lounge chair as it shifted under him. The iris disappeared briefly as his eyes opened and the sunlight made everything too bright for a moment. Squinting slightly, he looked over to see a young girl. Younger than most he had seen around. Younger than any, really. He sat up a bit more and let his eyes adjust. He smiled, as it seemed the girl was a little nervous. Perhaps she had not seen him. He did notice then that he had put the chair directly in the center of the path.
"Hello there.", he said to her in a quiet voice. " I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was in the middle of the road here." He stood up and grabbed his shirt and stretched fully, feeling the warmth of the sun down to his bones as he did so. As he was about to slide his T-shirt on, he saw Maya sitting in a nearby window. He simply stood there for a moment, smiling at her. He almost forgot about the little girl. Reality snapped him back and he slid the shirt on.
" My name is Garrett, by the way." He smiled again as he lifted the chair and moved it out of the path.
Garrett woke up late. Between hard labor, DocProf visits, and the pseudo dates he had had with Maya, he had been a busy boy. So today was an official day for laziness and procrastination. So must the stream pool, as well as rush. It took him a solid hour to get out of bed and get dressed as he took his sweet time moving around the room. When he eventually did get it together, he shuffled out of the room and decided to go shoeless. Maya had seemed to enjoy it, so why not?
He made his way outside to the grounds. It was a beautiful day, the sun high in the wide blue sky, the clouds seeming unrealistic in their patterns and shaping. He inhaled deeply through his nostrils, taking in the late summer scents. He walked through the grass, enjoying the organic feeling underfoot and between his toes. He could hear a mockingbird chitting and trilling away nearby. A warm wind slid over his back and it made him think of another natural beauty. He actually looked over his shoulder, smiling, to see if it was her.
It was just the summer wind. He walked towards the once lavish garden, now choked with weeds and wildflowers. He resisted the urge to beeline for the tool shed, opting instead to relax and enjoy whatever he came across. He saw a gorgeous iris jutting out from a particularly thick patch of weeds and roughage. It was a soothing sight and it gave him the idea of meditating upon it. He looked around and found a metal lounge chair, picking it up and awkwardly hauling over so he could enjoy the stark contrast of beauty among chaos.
He reclined back, the sun beating down on him. He noticed he was becoming particularly pale, so he removed his T-shirt and watched the occasional bee pass the iris. It was so warm and cozy, it became a slow slide between wakefulness and dream.
"[yellow]Carry me to bed? Great idea.[/yellow]" He smiled at her weakly and winked. He stood and his legs felt a bit rubbery. A hot shower and bed and I'll be alright., he thought to himself. She began explaining to him the various roots of her name. He thought she was quite eloquent , as well as being lovely. He remembered something from his own studies to add to the conversation.
"[yellow] Isn't there also a Mount Maya in Kobe? Although not a Buddhist, I have studied about some of the older temples.[/yellow]" He thought he had done well remembering such an obscure fact. Many hours of scrolling Wikipedia in public libraries brought him to that conclusion. "[yellow]Garrett is an Anglo-Saxon name meaning spear wielder. I don't think my parents knew that, but nonetheless, that's all it means.[/yellow]"
They made their way down the hall towards the split, arm in arm.
As they walked across the mansion grounds, a red headed kid came up and started speaking to Arisa. He didn't even give Garrett a second look. Not surprising, had he been his age and had a choice, he would have chosen the same. Arisa seemed uncomfortable with the attention, but also seemed to take to the younger kid. Maybe it was the hair.
Whatever the reason, Garrett saw no need to stay around. Between Neena and this Malik kid, everything would work itself out."[yellow]Well, looks like everything is covered here. I just got off work and could use a little nap. Arisa, it was a pleasure. Also nice to meet you, Malik. Hope to see you guys around.[/yellow]" He smiled and nodded to them both and headed off to his room.
He had given her a fright. It certainly hadn't kept her from becoming coy. She must have been well aware of her appearance. She took a stance that must have made the guys go gaga. "[yellow]Garrett Wills. Yes, I am a student. I live here too. Just got home from work.[/yellow]" He looked at the car and then into the foyer. "[yellow]Nice car. I took the bus.[/yellow]"
He wondered what her ability might be. There really was no way of telling. He was the posterboy for subtle powers, so who could say? "[yellow] So, you going to stand out here? I was going to go in. You are welcome to come in too. I am sure Neena will be along shortly.[/yellow]" He smiled and crooned his neck towards the gates.
"[yellow]Becuase it's your name. Ghost is just..I don't know, so impersonal. We are friends, you call me Garrett. I call you Maya.[/yellow]" He shrugged and smiled. She was getting tired. He could tell because she wasn't floating around full of joy. He understood, as he was tired himself, especially after the mini episode. The tour might have to be postponed for some much needed rest.
"[yellow]It's a beautiful name, too. Just rolls off the tongue.[/yellow]" It also filled him with warm feelings, but this was no time to say that. He stretched and a yawn escaped. "[yellow] Maybe we should continue our tour tomorrow when I get home from work. I need to pass out.[/yellow]"
Garrett had taken the bus home from the shop. It was still odd to him seeing Sam there with Lee. He had thought on it as the bus eased towards the last stop. Ghost had brought him to reality as far as using the bus. It was much more economical. As he began walking up the road to the gates, a black car drove past. A nice one. Visitors. Might turn out interesting., he thought to himself.
As he got closer to the gates, a man stepped out and let a young woman out of the car. She was beautiful, he could tell from here. But that was no mystery. He had still not run into an ugly or even average girl at the Mansion. Besides, Maya had been the only girl on his mind lately.
Dressed in khaki shorts and a black shirt sporting Christopher Walken and the words ' I got a fevah' beneath, he strolled up beside the car. The girl seemed to be staring at the Mansion. It was certainly something to behold. He made sure to stay far enough from the car so Jeeves or whoever he was didn't scoff at him when he came out.
He was maybe a few yards away when he decided to break the silence. "[yellow]Impressive, isn't it?[/yellow]"
She was being very sweet and concerned for someone who seemed so resistant to him. Perhaps it was her nature. He was learning, bit by bit. He shook his head at her as she prepared to call the DocProf. He would be alright. The old man should rest anyway, if he even did sleep. He was starting to feel better. He looked at his finger, dreading when he woke up in the morning, since his control would be washed away in sleep.
She sat beside him, speaking of their lack of coordination. "[yellow]Well, Maya, at least we have each other to look out for. That's always a plus.[/yellow]" He looked at the library. It was quite full. There were computers here, too. He had wondered why a place with a Danger Room wouldn't have access to the internet for the students. It made perfect sense to find them here, but he was happy nonetheless.
It took a moment for Garrett to register that she was speaking to him. The pain had made him see stars and blank out for a moment. His body acted strangely. He felt a bit nauseous. It must have been confused when it went to send its normal rush of adrenaline and endorphins, but then the call was cancelled. It left him feeling queasy and clammy. Was this gift a curse? His focus returned to Maya, who was kneeling in front of him and checking his finger.
"[yellow]Y..Yes..I think so. My body doesn't feel right, though.[/yellow]" He blinked a few times and took a deep breath. "[yellow] Thank you for your timely rescue, though.[/yellow]" He held her hand with the rest of his fingers for a moment and then let go.
He was amazed by her ease at changing the air quality in the room. He actually felt the change occur. It was hard for him not to feel self conscious as he had nothing to match that, save for fixing a boo boo. One day that would change, he hoped. He closed the lower windows as she closed the upper ones. "[yellow]It's much better, actually. Thank you. You are like a walking air conditioner.[/yellow]" He chuckled with the comment, glad that they could joke around now.
He found her struggling with a window. He approached her, saying,"[yellow] I know how much you love men acting macho, but in this case, I need to.[/yellow]" He stepped in front of the window and pulled down on it. It didn't budge. He looked up into the track but all seemed to be well. He squinted his eyes at the window, knowing he would be eating foot pie if he didn't get it shut. He grabbed it again, pushing it up a bit, then pulling down. It was sticky, but, all of a sudden, it gave. It gave hard. The strength he was using now acted against him and the window came down with full force, catching his finger in the process.
The pain was enough to make him faint for a moment. As an impulse, he looked at it and shut it down. It was still injured, turning a shade of reddish purple, but he couldn't feel a thing. Sweat ran over his brows from the initial shock. He had to sit down in a nearby chair for a moment
Garrett went to his room and changed shirts, leaving the other one in the floor. It was a new thing of late to have clothing options, so he liked changing clothes as needed. He washed his face and brushed his teeth, which helped him feel somewhat revitalized after a long day. The map of the school was on the nightstand. He had a look at it to see where the Library was and then headed out, dutifully locking the door behind him.
As he entered the lower floor entrance, a gust of wind met him. It wasn't Ghost. It was the night air, coming in from open windows. They were all open. Garrett stood there a moment, his mouth hanging slack-jawed. He saw her opening a window on the second floor. As they seemed to be the only ones inside, he called out. "[yellow]Maya! Do those windows have screens? The bugs, not to mention the humidity, might actually ruin some of these books.[/yellow]" He didn't mean to sound harsh, but he had no idea of the volumes that were present here. Should any be rare or special works that weren't contained, every moment might be destroying them.
Everything had worked smoothly. She was now at ease again, short of a small outburst. It was okay, though. He had to let her know that he was just as fluid, though not made of air. Once they were inside, Garrett closed the door behind him. "[yellow] So, would you like to go snooping around as we had planned? With everyone asleep, it should make it pretty easy. How about we split up and go to our rooms and then meet back at...say, the library?[/yellow]"
Having said that, Garrett shot her a smile and headed up to his room. He just needed to drop the jacket off and freshen up a bit. Then the tour would begin.
That comment had definitely thrown her for a loop. That's what happened when you went fishing though, sometimes you got a bite and sometimes you lost the hook entirely. He could see the redness in her face from here. He was glad she wasn't facing him as the smile on his face was so wide, his head could have swung back like a PEZ dispenser. She just stood, holding the door while replying to him. He had to help her out.
He stood in next to her and reached down to the opposite handle and opened it with a 'click'. Now facing her from the side with the door open, he said,"[yellow]Everything in the world works out eventually, my friend. After you.[/yellow]" He would try to read her feelings when they stepped into the foyer. If she was too bamboozled by the comment, he might let their tour wait.
