The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

ooc: I really thought I replied to this before I got sick! so sorry!
ic: >>"Does your sister ever, uhm, age?" <<
"Nope." replied Lana with a shrug. "She doesn't. She's stuck as a teenager. She was my big sister, now she's my big little sister." Lana laughed.
>>"Thanks. I mean, geez. I feel like I should give a speech or something? I'd like to thank the Classified section of the paper. For obvious reasons. Uhm. This couch. Super sturdy."
Lana gave a laugh in reply. "It's a good couch." she admitted, reaching behind herself to grab a wine cooler that she'd brought out of the fridge and forgotten she'd had til now. "Would you like one?" she asked offering Noel. "Goes great with, uh, cookie dough."
>>"But really, when I forget things, I'm sure I can be like a different person. It's my fear that one day I'll wake up in a pile of booze and hookers or... something....Can it be your job to make sure I don't go to the dark side?" <<
Lana nodded. "I imagine it's very scary. If you forget people, you forget the parts they add to you probably. I mean, on some level I'm sure they're there... but on the surface.. I mean yeah that's scary." she took a sip of her cooler. Far fruitier than she would have wanted, but hey, it was cheap alcohol. "Booze and hookers. whoops." she stared at her drink with a goofy grin. 'I shall do my very best, to make sure you don't end up on the dark side." another sip.
"So, tell me some horror stories, or embaressingly funny one, about your job!" Lana instructed, knowing that learning about her roomies job might help her know her better. "I'm sure you forget things given your mutation... but there must be some ones that are just so bad they're burned into your brain!" truthfully, she was also trying to judge just how far Noel's mutation could go.
ooc: once again, very sorry for taking so long. >.> bad Raina!

>>"I'll get back to you on working with you on a regular basis but I can go ahead and offer occasional help if you need it. In one of my past... incarnations I pulled a few burglary jobs that have given me some expertise that may prove helpful." <<
Darn. She didn't want to trip all over herself, but she was hoping for a yes or no answer. No fun waiting around. "Well, that's helpful." at least he was willing to help out once in a while. Whatever that meant.
>>"I will warn you though, I did have a run in with a Detective Cervantes about a year or so ago that might make the NYPD in general and him in particular a tad suspicious if you happen to bring me in on a case."<<
"Detective Cervantes?" she parroted. "I haven't been here long, but I haven't even heard that name yet." she admitted. "But now I'm curious..." she teased. Then Paul asked something that sincerely did catch her off guard.
>>"With all the work what do you do for fun?"<<
Lana raised an eyebrow and without even thinking, she gave Paul the same answer she'd given her room mate. "I go on dates and profile men." she tried not to let her own shock show that she'd accidentally revealed this tidbit without thinking. She shrugged casually. "I get bored. It's not exactly easy to go on dates when you see ghosts everywhere. Most men my age are pretty stupid." he had to give her that one. If he'd lived as many lives as he claimed, he knew Lana was well beyond most men in her age bracket. "and honestly, it's always best to profile a stranger. It keeps me sharp. And maybe I'm a bit of a psychopath too.. I like to see them squirm." she grinned like a Cheshire cat.
"I also enjoy reading mystery novels, I'm sure that's fairly cliched giving my field... and I enjoy getting out on the ocean. Ghosts only tend to haunt ship wrecks and things so I rarely see them out on the water. It's different than lakes where they can get all weedy and creepy. Too shallow." she shrugged again spinning her now empty cup in her hands. "What about you?"
Most of Lana's interests related to her work. She wasn't really sure what else she DID like. She'd spent so much time focusing on the stages to getting her jobs and then catching perps... that really was what got her going.
ooc: again, got sick. LOL hospital a few times. Better now. Sorry for the delay~ <3

>>"There were definitely more than one mutant that attacked Sam. Although, I think there have been more mutants attacked also. But I can't be certain about it. As far as I can tell they haven't created a list of people attacked."<<
"Hmmm...' replied Lana. "We certainly need to get a master list then. There's no way to identify any patterns until we know the full scope of what's been going on." she made a note of it. Someone was going to make her a list, or heads would roll. They couldn't very well consider cracking the case without it. Shawn continued.
>>"Well I can't get into details about our system. It would prove to problematic for the people involved. However, I can assure you that there was no break into our security. We have the most state of the art systems and they are constantly monitored. There are, however, different groups that had some information on Sam..." <<
Lana crinkled her brows. A simple warrant would allow her to access the school's system. It was remarkable how protective people could be of data. Lana appreciated the need for privacy... but it irritated her when it got in the way of justice. Just created red tape when allowing the police access- a mindful detective- would allow them to either hone in on a suspect, or remove people entirely from the suspect list. She couldn't get angry with Shawn though, he was just trying to do his job. So she wrote herself a little note. She'd let it slide for now- every system thought they were the best security system- but if she thought it could produce a real lead, she had a friendly judge on her side.
>>"There's no way I could speak on if they had a psychic mutation about them. It's possible. It's also very possible that they were spying. Sam isn't exactly a low profile person. He's a very out there in-your-face kinda guy. He goes on lots of missions and works with the NYPD also. I wouldn't having him come in for an interview; however, that is a little tricky. The mutants that attacked him let him for dead. That being said; they don't know that he's alive and we've been trying to keep that idea going so that they don't try to attack him again and make the mansion targets."<<
"I don't expect you to have all the answers, Shawn." Lana mused. "Moreso thinking and brain storming out loud. Collaborative habit." she winked. "I think it's very important we do interview Shawn. If keeping his status is a high priority, then we simply must find a way to visit him without letting anyone know. But I think our first priority is to create a list of all those who have been attacked, and start interviewing more." she took a sip of her coffee. "You're a good friend, and I can see you take your job seriously. The key here is to be quick. Who knows when this lunatic will strike again."
Hey everyone, hope the holidays treated you well. I was sick the entire thing! Boo! But now I am headed to North Caroline, Cary to be exact, to perform as a mermaid! If you're in the area, on Saturday I'll be walking in a fashion show in a nemo dress (come say hi!) at the Cary Mall~! It's free to the public!
So! It's Christmas! Attendance here will be spotty. Also, I will be in North Carolina from the 3-5th performing as a mermaid So yes, the next two weeks will be spotty attendance
>>"But tell me Lana... I'm curious. Obviously you must have very clear lines of morality that you follow or you wouldn't have ended up with the NYPD. Would stealing ever be an acceptable course of action? What about killing? " Paul asked quietly, his blue eyes boring directly in her brown ones, "Can your actions ever be justified because of the results they bring about?"
Lana smiled, despite herself. And despite herself, she couldn't help but envision great adventures with Paul. He was winning her over already. "Well..." she began taking a breath. "I follow my own sense of justice. It just so happens it lines up pretty frequently with the NYPD. The work I do with them, allows me to do the work I'm called to do- with psychopaths" added Lana. "I've done many things, and maybe that's not apparent because I'm not dragging it around like baggage. I frequently enter homes without warrants." she waggled her eyebrows. She was being serious, but her tone was comical. Working for the NYPD and searching a suspects home without a warrant could jeopardize a whole case. While it sounded like it wasn't a big deal, it was. "I've sent men and women to the electric chair. Men and women that were faking away an illness in mental hospitals in order to get away with their crimes." she gazed out the window. "If you're asking me if I'd kill someone... I don't know. I haven't had to yet. But if you're asking about the rules I follow? I follow justice. Justice is the most important thing to me. Dead people have no one else to speak for them. It's my job to do that. My job to find their killers. My job to be sure they can't hurt someone else."
Lana's features grew a little dark. She momentarily thought of her sister. Dead by the hand of a drunk driver who was off living a merry life somewhere, having never been even so much as identified. But it wasnt just her sister. Lana had seen so much injustice. She'd spoken to the dead. "Sometimes I already know who the guilty are." she remarked, thinking of the many dead who had pointed her in the direction of the guilty. "But a court wont accept "my mutation told me so". I need to make things fit together, the long way. It eats up my life. Takes over...." she turned her eyes back to Paul and they bore right back into him. For a few seconds- only a few- her eyes clouded over white and she saw more of his spiritual aura than she did oh him. "...and I don't stop until the job is done." Something changed in her persona then. She'd been light, bubbly, and enjoying their rapport. But something stronger and more intense was lingering just below the surface of those words. She was a blood hound.
She could of gone on and on, it was true. But Lana wasn't going to trip over herself to get this guy to work with her. She needed the help, it was true. But that's what interns were for. She was far more interested in getting to know Mr. McCoy, and if he told her outright here and now he has no interest... well, she'd simply tell him she'd like to see him again. Now she just needed to be reading with a reason.
ooc: so sorry for the delay. I got suuuuper sick and was in hospital coming around now though!
Ic:
>"Does she-Your sister... how often does she drop in on you?"
Lana shrugged. "Honestly, she doesn't give me much warning but she's good at buzzing off if I ask for my space. Usually a spirit has unfinished business keeping them here. Laura's business seems to be that she didn't live-" her voice cracked and she laughed, embarrassed. "So I guess she's gotta live, who knows." Live through Lana at least.
>>"I don't think I could date seriously, but people are fascinating. It's almost addicting to peek into other people's lives to see how they do what they do."
Lana held up her nails and admired them. Yellow wasn't such a bad colour at all. "Yes it's true. I've met my share of mutant mind readers too. I may not be a mind reader but sometimes a good detective comes close, and we can fake it." she grinned. "I can't believe you guys take bets. That's just too cruel! Here. You should just practice your profiling on me. I'm sure I come home different just about every day anyway."
"Well, I sort of profiled you when I met you." admitted Lana. "I knew you were fit, maybe jogging or something. I could tell you worked in a field where you were encouraged to me intimidating and whether you realize it or not you command respect." explained Lana. "I picked up on you being forgetful, but obviously not to the point that I realized it was part of your mutation..." she suddenly reached over and put a hand on Noel's shoulder. "And now I'm picking up that it's been a while since you've had a girl's night, and maybe a while since you had a friend you could trust..." she gave Noel a sincere smile and nodded her head. "So rest assured I'm raring to fill the spot." another toothy grin.
"It's hard to profile people I already know," she added. "I mean, I do it unconsciously. But once you know someone you begin to bias yourself. Add in things you know from experience, and not because you're deducing them. That's why it's fun to practice on guys. I actually have a date next week. Haha I can't even remember his name. Maybe I need tattoos once in a while..." she hoped the joke didn't come off as insensitive. Lana was terrible at making jokes but always felt like she should be trying.
ooc: so so so sorry for the delay, I was suuuuper sick!
Ic:
>>"Well, these cops aren't really 'my guys' I'm here as more of a subject matter expert on mutant actions towards other mutants. I have invaluable experience dealing with aggressive mutants that tend to cause harm to other mutants or humans. I help the cops out if they have any sticky situations that they don't seem equipped to handle." Streak stated. Streak nodded and leaned back in his seat and started to explain things.
Lana nodded as Shawn explained. However, now she was confused. Was he a police officer, detective, or a consultant like she was? It was starting to sound like he was probably a consultant on criminal mutants. They'd make a perfect pair, since she was a consultant on psychopathic mutants. Oh, the studies and papers she could write picking this guy's brain... but that would have to wait for another time. She took out her paper and began to jot notes down from that he said.
>>"Sam is a good friend of mine. We've worked together for quite a while now and we have been through more stuff than I can tell you about. He's an ice manipulator and can create some pretty cool ice creatures to help defend him. He was attacked after leaving a bar a couple of nights ago by two mutants in plain view of people. These mutants seemed to know him and know all about his powers. They'd done their research. We haven't had any luck tracking those two down yet but there has to be a reason that they tried to kill him. They left him for dead and if another one of our friends hadn't received the signal for help he probably would be dead right now."
Lana wrote furiously. It sounded like Sam and Shawn were very good friends with a long history. "Sometimes when we're trying to profile a perp, profiling their victims helps. We end up seeing patterns between the two that help us predict the behaviour and sometimes even what they'll end up doing next." explained Lana while she wrote. It was clear Shawn held Sam in high regard. "So you're saying mutants. Plural. Was there more than one mutant involved or were there more than one attacks?" she asked. Her file on the subject was pitifully thin. She really didn't have much to go on yet. "It sounds then, as you said there was a lot of research that went into this. Now, how could an attacker obtain that information? Did they seem to have a psychic based mutation? Were they spying? Did they crack into some computer at a school or place of work? It all sounds very organized..."
she'd made the case from the start that there was more than 1 perp involved. Now from Sam it sounded like 2, but she wouldn't be surprised if there were more than that. In fact, this was all sounding a bit too organized. Almost like the mafia. There was never just one. Criminals could be smart, but in cases like this there was usually always someone else pulling the strings. "It would really be great to interview Sam too." she mused. "And any other victims we can track down. Is there a master list yet of everyone who's been involved?" She was an envisioning one hell of a flow chart now. The thing sounded like it was bigger and went deeper than anything her bosses could have imagined.
ended up in the hospital -_- ugh just not my luck with this illness. Good thing is they identified a potentially major problem but caught it early enough so I am scheduled for surgery soon I will get back to posting soon, haha please don't leave me phoenix!
I am suuuuuper sick At first it was cool I was being all lazy and posting lots but now it's like the kind of sick where you want to stay wrapped in a blanket huddled in the corner, lol. So my posting will be sporadic till I'm better. Please be patient with me I know I just started a few threads! I'll be back once I kick this darn thing.
Lana looked up as Shawn entered. "Ah, hello! Shawn is it? Come on in, a little cramped in here I'm afraid." The first thing that caught her attention about Shawn was that he had silver eyes. Not grey. Silver. Like staring at a piece of jewellery. The second thing that caught her attention was that he was fairly young and good looking. Most of the officers here were middle aged with a little extra weight. They had some fine lines around the eyes too. Shawn looked bright and ready for action. "Have a seat." she motioned to the chair across from her desk, and she resumed her own seat.
On the desk were the case files of the recent attacks. "I'm not sure how much you know about criminal profiling..." began Lana. "But it's not an exact science. It's not like what you see on TV on the crime shows, or the famous movies like The Silence of the Lambs. But a well thought out profile can be the key in giving your officers the upper hand with an issue like this. We start my profiling the victims, figuring out what they have in common, and what draws the perps to them. From there we can start to profile the perp. A good profile can help you get a better sense of who you're looking for, and may even give you a sense of when they will strike next. Hopefully we can prevent a next..." she trailed off for a moment and then cleared her throat.
"Anyway, you were sent here to me today because several of the victims identified as belonging to your other place of employment- the Mansion for mutants?" she paused to check her notes. "...and because you allegedly know one of the victims..." she trailed off again and looked at her notes "..a Sam?" she looked up to see if her information was correct.
"I guess we should start at the beginning. Assume I know nothing, and tell me what you know about what happened to your friend Sam." she had her notepad ready.
