The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Tarin nodded his confirmation that Tony had come from the underground fighting scene. And Rachel and Matt had that somewhat shocked look on their face again, but this time it was aimed at Tarin. He did not particularly enjoy the attention.
Matt and Rachel were missing context, but the context probably wasn’t going to make it any less weird.
Lee pointed out that Tony was a good partner because he didn’t pull punches and couldn’t feel pain because he was dead.
Matt and Rachel still stared.
”It’s not as weird as it sounds.” Tarin said, shifting his feet a bit uncomfortably and taking another drink of his beer.

Tarin supposed it was a fair request for Matt to make when he asked Lee to let the bouncers handle things next time. Matt couldn’t have customers fighting. Nobody wanted to go to a bar like that. Bouncers were expected to take care of issues.
Lee brought up the sparring and Tarin nodded, ”Just let me know when and where.” he said, knowing Lee was probably right about Kevin.
Rachel asked why he and Lee were sparring and Tarin shook his head.
”Oh, I don’t fight.” Tarin said, taking another drink. ”I would absolutely be in the way.”
Tarin looked to Lee to see how much she wanted to say about the whole thing.

Why was it always so hard for the people closest to Lee to wrap their heads around the fact that she could do some pretty amazing things?
Now Matt was looking at Lee like she was someone he didn’t know. Looking down at Lee again, Tarin tried to figure it out. It was the easiest thing in the world for him to believe that Lee did amazing things.
The rest was true too though. With a few notable exceptions, Lee hadn’t ever seemed to go out looking for trouble. Lee had simply found herself in trouble more often than not.
Rachel caught Lee’s look at her and nodded. ”It sounds like it does.” she agreed.
Well, that was something, Tarin supposed.
Matt just shook his head. “Yeah, try to let the bouncers do their job.”

Tarin nodded, eying Rachel as she tried to wrap her head around what her sister had just done.
Lee said she was fine and Tarin nodded, ”Good then.” he said, moving closer, but giving Lee her space in case the adrenaline was still flowing.
Lee was asking Rachel if she was okay and Tarin almost found it funny. Lee was the one who had been in harm's way…even if the actual threat had been very minimal.
Rachel was nodding her head slowly, and took a long drink from her beer. ”You really do know how to fight.” Rachel said.
”Like she said.” Tarin said, but he was looking down at Lee when he said it with a proud smile on his face.
“What the hell was that?” Matt said as he made his way back to the table.

The bouncers got through the crowd much better than Tarin had and they were much larger than he was .
If it wasn’t specifically their job to move like that, Tarin might have been a bit jealous. As it was, when they relieved Lee of her burden and she stood to make her way back to the table, Tarin just smiled and handed her and Rachel their beers.
Rachel, meanwhile, was gaping a bit at her sister. Tarin nudged Rachel a bit with his elbow and the woman jumped. ”You're forgetting our second job.” he said quietly.
”That was amazing!” Rachel said, and Tarin’s smile grew to a grin. ”There you go.” he said, then made his way back around the table to Lee.
”That really was amazing.” he said, ”Sorry I didn’t help, I knew that guy’s night was about to be ruined and I didn’t want to add insult to injury by shattering his image of your chicken shit boyfriend. You good though?”

Yeah…this guy was making a huge mistake.
Tarin could see Lee getting more and more angry as he approached with the beers and the guy who had walked up to the table refused to take a simple no for an answer.
When no didn’t work, the man switched to insults. Typical and boring and simply unimpressive. Tarin had never really understood that tactic. It not only destroyed any chance there’d been with the original woman, but anyone else who saw the way you were behaving wanted anything to do with you after the fact. It was a total bust on the night.
This guy apparently needed to learn the hard way though.
Lee mentioned him and Tarin grinned as he made his final approach with the beers. Lee had been able to pick him out from the crowd again. That was so cool, Tarin thought even as the asshole took a verbal shot at him. Did he really look chicken? How did one look chicken when they were carrying three beers?
Lee was right anyway. Tarin was going to enjoy this next part. A lot. Lee kicking absolute ass in that outfit was going to be seared into his mind for years.
It didn’t really matter now thought because the bouncers were starting to move and the asshole was throwing punches. At Lee.
Now that had Tarin paying attention as he come up beside Rachel and set down the beers.
”Aren’t you going to do anything?” she said and Tarin shook his head. ”Watch. I’d just be in the way.” he said as Lee slipped past all of the punches and used the man’s size against him to pull him to the ground.
The bouncers were arriving now, taking over from where Lee had the man pinned. ”See.” he said, ”Our job is to have her beer ready and tell her how amazing she is.”

Well, if nothing else Tarin was making much better progress getting back to the table than he had when he went to go get the beers.
Eyeing the table where Lee and Rachel were, Tarin couldn’t help but notice the man who had walked up in the absence of himself and Matt and Tarin had to chuckle a bit to himself. That was a terrible idea.
Tarin wasn’t really the jealous type, and he knew that Lee could absolutely handle herself with the creep that was still trying his luck with Lee and her sister. He was still a little ways away, but Tarin honestly couldn’t wait to see what happened next. The second Lee needed or asked for help, he’d be there…but that was unlikely to happen.

Yeah. Crowds in bars sucked. Tarin wasn’t even all that big as far as people went, but he was having next to no luck getting through to the bar. True, he wasn’t the only one who wanted drinks…but like, wow.
Still. Lee and Rachel were back at the table and they needed drinks, so Tarin waited…and squeezed his way through when possible, and got just a little claustrophobic a few times.
Eventually though, Tarin made it to the bar and ordered the three beers he had been sent to get.
Soon enough, he had them, had paid for them, and was making his way back through the crowd. It was gonna take a minute, but dammit wasn’t going to spill a drop.

God he loved it when Lee laughed like that. Maybe it was a good thing that they’d decided, and actually followed through, with coming out tonight.
Lee confirmed that Shin and his wife had just had a kid, but explained that Shin’s wife had been around Lee when she was pregnant and had talked about baby emotions being intense but basic. Well, that was weird, wasn’t it?
Tarin didn’t say that though because Lee seemed to think it explained something and maybe made it better. Great.
Lee was ready for another round unless he wanted to surprise her? ”Three beers it is.” he said, having absolutely no idea what he’d have possibly gotten for Lee as a surprise.
Matt, it appeared, was getting up too, but it was to check on how things were going in the bar. A consummate professional, it seemed and Tarin made his way off into the crowd of people, leaving the sisters at the table to chat or do whatever it was they were going to do.
A few moments later, he remembered why he hadn’t liked being in the general miasma of the bar as the crowd refused to part for him and he found himself moving far more slowly than he’d of liked packed in with the rest of everyone. Yuck.

It was almost comical that Rachel and Matt were surprised to find out that Lee had been there with a mutant even if it had been years ago. ”We’re everywhere..” he said with slightly exaggerated drama.
Lee wasn’t sure if the empath, Kealey, was an X-Man or not, but she was married to one. Kealey was the wife that Shin had mentioned when they’d toured the Mansion. Tarin had to wonder what that was like. On one hand, having that kind of insight into your significant other would be genuinely helpful sometimes…but someone knowing what you were feeling all the time. Yeah, the whole idea was wildly uncomfortable to Tarin. ”Didn’t you say they just had a kid? That must be a lot.”
Unfortunately it turned out that Rachel hadn’t really had any special kind of hook up for drinks and Tarin rolled his eyes, ”I’ll grab another round.” he said, ”Same thing?” he asked Lee, then looked at Matt and Rachel, ”Anyone want anything?”

”You went ‘full name’ first, I was just matching your energy.” Tarin said, then vowed to let the subject drop. He also didn’t point out that it had taken Lee a fair amount of time to actually call him by his name. She’d had her reasons, and it had been an odd situation, but it wasn’t like there weren’t other people in the world who had the same name. Still. It was absolutely not worth arguing over.
Matt, it turned out, had played the drums. Drums were super cool, but apparently the pay from doing so was not. At least not when it was compared to bartending in New York City.
The clientele and their tendency to flirt was also more accessible this way. Tarin chuckled and finished off his beer while Rachel gave Matt a look and Lee rushed to the rescue of her friend.
Lee knew an empath? For some reason the idea of someone having that power made Tarin deeply uncomfortable. If Lee knew them though, and had been out with them, they had to be alright, didn’t they?
”Well, you can’t beat that for reassurance…” Tarin said, with everything he knew about Rachel, he wouldn’t have been surprised if she had a jealous streak.
”Another X-Man?” he asked Lee, then turned to Rachel, ”Didn’t you say something about easy access to drinks?”

”I only made that mistake once…” Tarin said, looking over at Lee again, ”And I had no idea that you hated it so much…”
Still. It was probably a lucky thing that despite her extreme ire, Lee had been willing to listen to reason that night.
Rachel answered his question and as she and Lee went back and forth about their childhood and what sounded like classic sibling conflict, Tarin had to laugh. He could imagine an even tinier little Lee chasing Rachel out of her closet.
Tarin had to laugh, ”I bet your parents never had a moment’s peace.” he said.

Lee pointed out that he had seen her angry a couple if days before the bar and Tarin winced and looked over at Matt and Rachel, ”I might have made things worse when I called her ‘Emily’ in a wild feat of stupidity.”
Rachel’s eyes widened at that, ”You didn’t…” she breathed and Tarin shrugged, ”I said it was a stupid thing to do…”
Rachel did seem to relent though and drop her insightful persistence that something had happened after the after the open mic night in favor of just being glad that Lee had gone out and had fun.
Now they were on to his blossoming guitar skills and Tarin had to laugh, ”What about you Rachel. Do you play anything “

The more time passed, the more comfortable Tarin got. Again, he couldn’t help but think that Lee’s mood had something to do with it. She seemed almost restless now, and Tarin couldn’t help but wonder just how much tonight was going affect Lee, how much she’d have to do to burn off the extra energy. Lee would handle it, Tarin knew, but he still found himself curious as Lee assured him that he wouldn’t have been the target of her wrath that night.
”How was I supposed to know that?” Tarin asked, ”But it had been made clear to me that you were going out that night, one way or another…”
Tarin rolled his eyes at Rachel’s comment too, he’d been vague on purpose. They’d put too much work into keeping things quiet for him to blow their cover…even if it was a moot point now.
”I am glad I got to hear her play that night.” Tarin said to Rachel, ”She’s been teaching me…I know…two chords now?” he said, glancing at Lee again. ”And when I can remember what strings I’m supposed to use, they almost sound right too.”
