The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Yep, now Tony remembered. It was hard to remember sometimes, what happened and what didn’t. But the woman had done something similar to this the last time that they’d sparred.
She took the kick and moved to sweep his leg and Tony took the sweep but controlled his fall so he landed on his rear and protected his head in a ground guard while he shifted, trying to get his right leg around Lee’s so he could twist his hips and pull her to the ground.
”What is she doing?”
Tarin shrugged, ”Opponents always underestimate her because of her size. Tony made the same mistake last time…” Tarin said, trailing off with a bit of a frown. The man remembered…they’d talked about the…
Ah, he did remember, it was some kind of counter, Tony was trying to bring Lee down to the mat now.
”Anyway, they can’t outmuscle her, not when she’s like this. If you were asking about the moves and stuff? I have no idea. I don’t know a thing about fighting.”
”She’s going to get hurt.” Robert said.
”No…” Tarin said, shaking his head, ”Well, maybe a little, but she’s already been hurt before. This is helping make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

”MMA was outlawed in New York City until relatively recently. A loophole let some underground matches happen. Tony was a good fighter and a decent kid who made some bad choices.” Tarin said after Lee had explained to Rachel what kind of rules they were following.
”Tony loved to be in the ring,” he added, ”Spirits tend to latch on to something, if they can fulfill it they’re calmer…happier. It’s a win-win situation.”
”How do you know all of that?” Robert said, ”About…him.” he said, nodding to the fighter.
”Because I did weeks of research and interviews before we even tried. Despite all that, I can shut this all down in the blink of an eye.”
Back in the ring. Tony watched as Lee took her little step back and raised her fists. She hadn’t had her guard that low the first time they’d fought. Was she trying to taunt him into taking a swing at her head?
He didn’t bite. Instead, Tony moved forward aggressively, aiming a kick low at Lee’s legs, planning to follow up with a right towards her head just to see what she was planning to do today.

Lee was ready. Tony was ready.
Rachel was ready.
Robert was…whatever Robert was, but that didn’t really matter because Lee was sparring.
”I don’t think it would go well for him in the ring with her.” Tony offered up, looking at Robert.
”God it would be glorious to see…” Tarin said, ignoring the slightly quizzical look from Rachel as he spoke to seemingly thin air.
”Nobody freak out. I’m bringing Tony in now.” he said, then nodded to Lee once more before getting down to business.
Sighing a bit, Tarin opened up his mind just enough to establish a connection between Tony and himself and start channeling energy down the bond. Almost instantly, the man winked into existence and Tarin did not miss the shocked gasp from Rachel as the fighter made his way over to where Lee was getting her gear on.
If Robert had said anything else to Lee, Tarin hadn’t heard it but the other man stepped back and crossed his arms, avoiding looking at Tarin at all.
Fine. That was probably for the best.
”Same rules as last time?” Tony asked Lee when she was ready and held out his hands for her to bump if she was ready to go.

It was still aggravating to Tarin that Lee felt the need to do this. After what had happened in the bar last night in front of Rachel, and after what Robert had seen at the build site, neither of them should have had a single question in their minds. Even more, since Lee had told them both repeatedly what she could do, they should have just believed her.
When Lee had brought the idea up, Tarin had wanted to say no. To tell her that he thought it was a bad idea, but he hadn’t been able to make the words form. Lee felt like she needed to do this, so he would help her. So what if he was uncomfortable putting his powers on display for Robert and Rachel.
Lee was laying things out for Rachel and Robert, and she did manage to make the point to Robert that if anything happened it wasn’t Tarin’s fault. Robert just looked confused though.
”Why would it be his fault if you get hit by a sparring partner?” Robert asked and Tarin sighed a bit.
”The person I found to spar with Lee is dead.” he said blandly. ”The only way he exists for anyone but me is if I make it so. I have to concentrate the whole time, so you can’t distract me.” That was a bit of a white lie, it took next to no concentration to maintain a single spirit at this range, but maybe this way Robert would leave him alone.
”Absolutely no...” Robert started to say, ”Oh shut up Robert.” Rachel chimed in and Tarin had to chuckle.
Looking around the two siblings and over at Lee, Tarin shrugged, ”You ready?” he said, then glanced over at Tony, still nonexistent for most of the people in the room. ”What about you, you remember the rules from last time?”
Tony nodded, ”And the multiple times you reminded me today. Whatever she says goes.”

A happy median had been found.
It had been a hard week. Tarin still had the bruises to show for just how hard it had been. They were mostly faded by now, but they were definitely still there.
They’d considered just staying home, following through with Lee’s suggestion from the night before in the elevator. There had definitely been some clothing optional time. Lee still had a lot of energy to burn though, and the timing on this was too good to pass up.
Lee had also invited her siblings to attend the sparring match, and then proceeded to completely ignore anything that either of them said in response. Tarin was a bit nervous about the whole thing if he was being honest. Rachel had looked horrified the night before when they talked about this and Robert didn’t even know that Lee had been sparring with a dead guy.
That was going to go over well.
Lee was stretching and getting warmed up, and Tarin was watching her, having already worked out for the day and still in his workout clothes. At least he wasn’t too sore to do that anymore. He’d also already taken a couple of Advil in hopes of heading off a headache before it happened this time.
Tony was there and standing docie and invisible to everyone but Tarin, off to the side as he waited for Lee to be ready.
As if on cue, as soon as Lee said they’d wait a few minutes and then start, the door to the gym opened and Robert and Rachel entered together.
Awesome.
”This is either going to go really well or really really bad. Remind your brother not to kick my ass if Tony lands a punch please?”

Lee disagreed, and since she was the one wearing the article of clothing, Tarin deferred to her knowledge and moved his hands out of the way as Lee went to work on the clasps or hit some magical release mechanism because all of a sudden the whole damn thing was gone and all Tarin could say was, ”Oh my God...”
Uh yeah. Vastly preferable to buttons.
Lee wrapped her arms up and around his neck and any thoughts Tarin had of holding back or taking their time absolutely dissolved into nothing as the motion brought them back into much more direct contact and a hard shiver ran through Tarin’s whole body.
As much as he liked where they were and what they were doing, this was only sustainable for so long, and there was a perfectly good room at the end of the hall with a more than perfect bed.
To that end, Tarin bent and slipped an arm behind Lee’s knees, scooping her up and heading down the hall.

Lee moaned into the kiss and Tarin almost scooped her up right there and carried her back to his room, but Lee didn’t seem to want to move at all. No, Lee seemed content to stay right where they were. Lee’s hands worked their way between them and started on the buttons of his shirt, and Tarin’s breath hitched a bit as she did so.
There wasn’t room between them for more hands, and Lee did not seem like she was going to be willing to wait so Tarin slid one hand up Lee’s arm and shoulder and up into her hair, God he loved her hair.
Lee eventually finished with the buttons and Tarin shrugged out of his shirt, letting it fall to the floor before getting his hand back in her hair, the other on her waist, to kiss her for another few moments or minutes before sliding that hand between them and up the front of that corset.
This was going to take two hands, he realized, grumbling in frustration and bringing his other hand down. ”This is almost as bad as buttons…”

Some time had passed and they hadn’t made it very far into the apartment. That was fine though, it was Saturday and Lee had already said that she wasn’t going to be sleeping that night so they had time. Time to stand there in the entryway and kiss, time to figure out why Lee felt the need to wear the fashion equivalent of an escape room sometimes, time to do whatever it was they decided that they wanted to do.
Lee wanted to move and Tarin moved with her, not really paying any attention to where they were going because Lee’s hand had found its way into his hair and that made it hard to pay attention to anything.
They stopped moving again and Tarin vaguely realized that they’d come up against the wall. Tarin was going to turn them so they could continue making their way towards his room, but then Lee’s hand tightened in his hair and Tarin forgot to think about anything beyond the fact that she seemed to wanted him closer so he obliged, pressing Lee into the wall as they continued to kiss.

Getting the door unlocked and opened was slightly more of an ordeal than it should have been, owing to the fact that Tarin’s hands were shaking and he was trying to accomplish the task one-handed.
Still, he eventually managed and then both of them were inside the apartment and Lee was locking the door. She apparently didn’t think much about his idea for the next day because she didn’t respond, it that was okay because Lee was wrapping her arms around his neck and asking where they should start.
Leaning down just enough for that kiss that had almost happened in the elevator, Tarin wrapped his arms around Lee for a few moments, just holding her while they kissed. Then his hands moved from where they’d settled in the small of her back to travel up her back and then back down and Tarin had to laugh a little against Lee’s lips.
”I really hope this thing has a hidden zipper somewhere…” he said in reference to the corset, then looked back at their rooms before shrugging a little and dipping his head down for another kiss, this one a bit more intense than the previous.

This had maybe not been the best idea, Tarin thought as he waited for Lee to speak. He knew that the trip up would be short and that everything would be fine with the doors opened, but why was the damn elevator moving so slow?
Tarin actually flinched a little when Lee’s hand touched his face and he realized that she was speaking as she turned his face towards hers. His eyes wanted to stay on the floors because they were getting close, but then what Lee was saying registered and Tarin’s eyes locked onto hers.
Mission accomplished, Tarin was absolutely distracted now. He was just leaning down for a kiss and to tell Lee that she had great ideas when the elevator dinged merrily and the doors slid open, so Tarin settled for pulling Lee from the elevator and digging his keys out of his pocket as they approached the door.
”We’ll find a happy median…” he said, hands still shaking just a bit as Tarin worked to unlock the door, ”That way you can burn off some energy.”

If he was comfortable with it, the elevator would be much easier.
Tarin took a deep breath and nodded and pulled Lee back into the lobby. The place was empty and Tarin pushed the elevator button and watched as it made its way down to them. Was he comfortable with this? Not particularly, but it was only a short ride and it wasn’t like they were going to get stuck, or that they’d be in there for a long time like they had on the ride up the Empire State Building. At some point this had to get better, right?
The doors opened and Tarin only hesitated a second before he pulled Lee inside and watched the doors slide shut as he pushed the button for their floor.
Was the elevator moving slower than usual?
”Say something? Distract me?” he said, feeling foolish but not wanting to mess the night up by freaking out on the short elevator ride home?

Yes. Home. Lee agreed, and and it did not take much to get them to the building and into the lobby.
Once they were there, Lee immediately turned towards the stairwell and Tarin followed her until she slowed down at the bottom of the stairs.
She hadn’t thought through the outfit? Tarin tilted his head a little as he looked at the outfit again from the shoes all the way up and then back down again trying to figure out what the problem was.
That just made Tarin want to get to the apartment faster.

Lee looked up at him in the streetlight and Tarin met her eyes. She spoke and Tarin nodded, ”Good.” he whispered as Lee touched his face and he smiled when she kissed him.
Tarin wrapped his arms around Lee and just held her there for a few moments.

No. Tarin did not like the story one bit.
Lee explained what had happened, what she’d thought she saw, and how it had led to her being caught.
Tarin could almost picture the scene, but part of him wondered exactly how the hell the other Tarin had been in a position to end up in that situation in the first place. How had a client gotten close enough to kiss him and how had it gone on long enough for Lee to walk into the shop and see it?
He could almost picture Lee standing there, furious …and the rest. She’d gone to the camps thinking that every bad thing she’d ever thought about herself was true. That even though they’d been engaged, she still hadn’t been enough.
They were getting close to the building now, but Tarin pulled them off to the side and stopped, waiting until Lee looked at him.
”It will never be too much. You know that, right?” Tarin said, ”I don’t care what happens, or how much you think you have to worry about anything or everything else. You never have to worry about me.” Tarin had never really seen himself as a “big declarations” kind of guy, but boy did Lee bring it out in him.

Lee smiled and Tarin smiled back and as they walked her head came back down on his shoulder. Despite the fact that it had once again been a really weird night, Tarin thought it would have been really hard for him to be happier.
Lee spoke as they walked and Tarin frowned down at her and tried to remember what Lee had said about that time in her life. How she’d ended up in the camp.
”What happened?” he said, with a sinking feeling he was going to really dislike this story.
