The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mariusz sat in silence with Liz for a few moments longer. When she failed to speak and he could think of nothing more to say either, beyond the general banal chit chat of questions such as 'what is your favorite color?', he decided that perhaps it was best to wrap up this little meeting. Pushing back in his chair he rose to his feet and worked his wings around in small circles, similar to the way a tennis player would work loosen up their arms prior to a match, to get ready to take to the skies again.
"If there is nothing else you wish to discuss, dear lady, we seem to have reached a conversational impasse and so I will take my leave of you," he said, stepping a few feet away from the table. "If you should change your mind you know where I might be found. Rozloučení*." With that he sprang into the air and took once more to the skies.
"Yes, naturalization," Mariusz said, swinging his legs slowly out into space as he sat on the edge of the bridge support."As for taking my time, well I cannot afford to wait too long. If I wait too long the window to register to run in the election will close. Rest assured though, I do know how the game is played and I have thought through a position on several issues of importance."
Obviously running for any kind of political office required forethought on the part of the person that was running and while Mariusz hadn't developed a full platform to run on he was, nonetheless, confident he could give a good showing when he announced his candidacy. After all, his personal background in politics would be a major help in running for office. He was caught a little bit off guard when Maya asked about his favorite color and had to think about it for a moment.
"Red, I suppose. I had never really thought about it much," he replied, shrugging his shoulders. "And you?"
"Oh, I doubt you would do anything to embarrass me," Mariusz replied, making a dismissive gesture with one of his hands. If he had been concerned about that he wouldn't have asked the girl in the first place. Still, he wasn't the sort of person to try and twist her arm into going if she didn't want to go. There was no need to be rude about if even if time was rapidly running out to find a date to the party. Surely there would be something that would come up. Or, worst case scenario, he could hire that bodyguard person that Tses had given him contact information for.
"If I thought you would embarrass me I would not have asked if you wanted to go," he continued with a smile. "Still, if your mind is made up I will not try and cajole you into changing it. After all, we live in the same place so if you decide later that you would like to go all you need to do is track me down at the Mansion and ask."
"Congratulations are not quite in order yet," Mariusz replied moving to the edge of the bridge tower and seating himself next to Maya. "I still have to take my citizenship test and then register as an independent candidate," he continued, shrugging his shoulders. "But, once I get done with those two chores I will, officially, be on the ballot and it will be time to begin my campaign."
"As for the reasoning behind running, it is a number of factors really," the avian mutant continued, shrugging his shoulders again. "It seems obvious based on the ViewTube video and the recent riots that mutant rights are not something that is a high priority for the local government, therefore someone needs to bring issues important to mutants into the limelight. In truth, it does not matter if I win or lose. The more important thing is getting the message and the platform out there. Who better to do that than the son of a career politician, admittedly a foreign politician but still... besides that, judging by the riots with the whole mutant vote behind my candidacy and a few humans too it would be possible to win. I checked the math."
"You might be surprised. There have been some people that have turned down the chance to take to the skies with me," Mariusz said as they soared out from between two buildings and over Times Square. He wheeled in a series of circles over the square, flapping his wings and riding on the updrafts coming off a black top that was warmed by the early summer sun.
"Some, I think, are afraid of heights. Others are unwilling to be held quite so close by someone they may not know all that well." Mariusz lightly tapped his taloned fingers against Cara's hip to help illustrate his point. "Of course, I do not see anything romantic in taking someone flying. Still it would be hard to deny that it is, undeniably, intimate."
Pleased that he was at the right height, or at least a height he was comfortable with, he banked sharply and turned in the direction of the Mansion, taking a route that would fly them over Central Park in the process. "It is coming up on rush hour so keep your eyes peeled for helicopters because they do not always watch out for me."
"It is a masquerade ball at the Waldorf Astoria here in New York," Mariusz replied, making a few sort of vague gestures with his hands. "I am given to understand that my father has rented both the Grand Ballroom on the bottom floor and the Starlight Lounge at the top of the hotel, apparently this is going to be a large party to need that much space." Mariusz paused before continuing.
"I also imagine he will pull out all the stops for something with a bit of Old World flair. A chamberlain to announce everyone as they walk in, a wide array of adult libations, a spread that will likely be fit for a king. Women in elegant gowns that sparkle like many colored jewels, men attired equally as elegantly. Dancing and possibly a bit of singing. And, of course, the chance to mingle with some of the most politically and economically powerful people in the world. A great chance to network for someone who is just beginning in life."
"The situation is that the cat woman is here and looking for you," he said in answer to Evelyn's question. "I cannot think that she would be here for anything productive." He snatched his bow and slung it over his shoulder. He decided it would be most polite to leave unsaid a remark about his always having to be around to watch out for her. Who knew how many enemies the blonde had, but apparently she did have one that was extremely persistent.
"I apologize if I startled you, that was not my intention. Like I indicated I thought this room was empty," he said picking up one of the blankets from the floor and folding it neatly before placing it on the bed.
"I notice you are blushing rather profusely," he continued, trying to change the subject. "I hope I am not the cause, at least you are clothed though," he said, staying on the same subject. The nice thing about feathers was no one could see you blush.
"How do you want to proceed," he asked, eying Evelyn. Of course, until the cat woman left he had no intention of leaving her unsupervised. Who was going to protect the blonde from the cat woman if he wasn't around?
"Were," Mariusz asked, speaking into the cell phone in his taloned hands. He wasn't looking for someone named Were. He was looking for someone named Sarah. He pulled the phone away from his face and looked at the number he had poked in and checked it against the number that Tses had given him. The numbers matched so either Sarah had changed her number or she was associated with someone named Were, though that name was very odd. Still, he supposed that his name could be equally odd to others as well.
"I am trying to get in contact with someone named Sarah. I was given this number to contact her about a possible personal security job," Marisuz said into the phone. With a little bit of luck this person he had called would know how to reach the woman he was looking for. He'd turned up nothing for dates so far for the party, but this would suffice as a back-up plan.
"How is this kind of flying better than what you can do," Mariusz asked. It seemed to him that her form of flying would be considerably safer since, as he understood it, her form of flying involved her becoming non-corporeal which would make landings and other flight obstacles no longer something to worry about. Of course, he also wasn't completely certain about the way that Maya's abilities functioned to allow her to fly. After all, they weren't his abilities.
"As for November, who can say? Perhaps I will get everything done in time to run. Perhaps I will even win, though that might present a conflict of interest for my father if his son was the Mayor of one of the major cities here in the U.S. but I will remember your offer." He shrugged his shoulders and beat his wings a bit to gain a little more height before landing on one of the towers of the bridge.
Coming to a stop in midair above the bridge he beat his wings slowly and descended until they touched down gently on the bridge support. Just before touching down he released her ankles from the grip of his taloned feet. Once they were on the ground, in a something less than literal sense as they were on the bridge support tower he released his grip from around her waist so that Maya could step away if she so desired.
"Ah, I cannot recall ever having seen you around the Mansion before," Mariusz replied. "Still, I do not suppose that should be such an odd occurrence since there are so many people that live and go to school at the Mansion. I would doubt that anyone knows all of them." It was as good an explanation as any.
Mariusz steepled his fingers across his stomach and regarded the woman across the table from him for a moment, trying to decide how old she was. He had never been that good at guessing how old a woman was just by looking at her. He could tell, just from looking, that Liz was younger than he was. But, was she too young? He couldn't tell. Did it really matter? No, he supposed in the grand scheme of things that it didn't.
"Though we have just met I do not suppose you might be interested in attending a party with me in a few weeks," Mariusz asked, changing the subject of the conversation. "Purely as friends, or acquaintances, only of course."
After paying for the apples Mariusz waited near the front store by the entrance while Cara ran back deeper into the store. Probably she needed to clock out and pick up a few personal affects. His suspicions were confirmed a few moments later having pulled something on over the top of her work uniform. With the bag of apples dangling from a wrist he laced his fingers together and cracked his knuckles as Cara approached.
"I am ready to go whenever you are," he said, moving to the door and pushing it open so Cara could exit. Once they were out on the street he handed her the bag of apples.
"There are two ways of carrying you, but it is close to rush hour so there is more traffic, even in the air. Helicopters, other mutants, that kind of thing so," he trailed off and stepped up behind Cara, slipping his arms around her waist and pulling her back tight against his body.
"Rather than using the Superman carry we will use something that is a bit safer as I possess neither arms of steel nor super strength." Mariusz coiled his legs underneath him and unfurled his wings. He gave a big leap and with several powerful downbeats of his wings he got them airborne. "This way is safer and more secure."
Though not specifically on the way to the Mansion Mariusz headed in the direction of Times Square. There was a good amount of pavement there in an area that usually created updrafts which would make it easier to gain more height since he was carrying an additional passenger.
"I am a bit surprised you chose this method of transit since, indeed, we do hardly know one another."
"Very high society, I think that wine of all varieties will be in high demand. Reds, whites, and sparkling. Champagne too, I would imagine. Dom Perignon, rose and blanc. I would also think that the higher end mixed drinks will be popular, such as martini's. A wide variety of scotch and whiskey would also be good, and I believe that some of the Americans that will be in attendance are bourbon drinkers," Mariusz said, thinking on the subject a bit as he finished sipping his beer and put the empty bottle on the bar, pushing it in Melissa's direction.
"As for beer, there will be no bottles. Only kegs. We will need several kegs of Pilsner Urquell, Starobrno Rezak, and Gambrinus Premium. Starobrno and Gambrinus are a Czech beers, you may have to special order them," the bird-like mutant said, trying to be helpful rather than snobbish.
"I think, perhaps, five kegs of each will do. After that we will need kegs for a variety of beers from around the world. This will be an event with guests from the entirety of the global community. Three different styles of German beer will be needed; a Berliner Weisse, a Schwarzbier, and a Maibock. Maibock will, of course, be in season since they are usually brewed in the spring. At least two kegs of Guinness Stout. A single keg of Kirin Ichiban Shibori, it is an especial favorite of the Japanese Ambassador. Also a keg of Kolyani Black Label as there will be a sizable Indian group at the party as well. As for American brews, I was wondering if I might be able to sample a few of the beers you have on tap? Not full pints, of course, just little tasters will be fine."
"I am sure you are right about finding someone, still luck has not been with me so far," Mariusz said, shrugging his shoulders which caused the ends of the towel around his neck to bounce slightly.
"I suppose there is still plenty of time though. If you would like to come along in a different capacity I imagine that could be arranged though I should point out that security will be stringent and you will not be able get a weapon in."
"Still, there are some weapons that cannot so easily be confiscated," he continued, holding up his taloned fingers to help make the point. With the shower out of the way it was time to find a snack since it was still a bit too early in the afternoon to be seriously thinking about what to eat for dinner.
"If you will excuse me I think I will head to the kitchen and find myself a snack, unless of course you would like a snack as well."
"I am actually working on becoming a teacher at the school," Mariusz said in answer to Cara's question. "I have a degree from Charles University in Prague and, I should think, I am rather uniquely qualified to teach others with the mutant gift to fly," he continued, rustling his wings slightly to help further make his point. He decided, for the moment, to not mention his decision to run for Mayor. He had yet to file the necessary paperwork to get on the ballot, so in the strictest sense he was not yet running for the office.
"As for the tarts, I was planning on making them tonight. I trust you know where the school is located," he asked, arching an eyebrow at the woman. If she knew where the school was located it would provide her with a time to show up and, if she didn't then he would also give Cara directions so she wouldn't get lost. There was, however, one other option that just occurred to him as well.
"That is, of course, assuming that you do not get off work soon. If your work day is nearly done, and you would trust a complete stranger, I would be happy to fly you to the Mansion directly through the city... provided you would consent to carry the apples as I would have to be carrying you."
"Ah, I think I understand," Mariusz said, leaning back a bit in his seat to be slightly further away from the crow lest he upset the bird. "I would assume that you, essentially, take over the body of the animal through some kind of psychic ability," he continued, lacing his fingers together and placing his hands on the table in front of him.
"I do admit that it is not every day that I strike up a conversation with a crow, or any other animal for that matter," Mariusz admitted in answering Liz's question, shrugging his shoulders. "Even living at the Xavier's School Mansion, the mutant school, I do not encounter animals with the ability to converse nearly as often as one would think," he continued, gesturing with his hands a bit as he spoke.
