The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Yeah but it's cheating when you use a stand-in Neena."
Neena grinned at Nika, and teased back. "Perhaps. But I'm kind of attached to my limbs and skin. A bit inconvenient, I suppose, but you know how it is."
āWell the coldās not so bad with fur. Itās the heat that makes this stuff bunch in all the wrong places.ā
"I was going to say something similar to that Sara. Having fur really does help in cold climates."
Neena sighed. "Guess I was born with the wrong mutation. Or in the wrong part of the world." She smiled again to show she was teasing.
Her attention was distracted by Ruby's entrance. She watched and listened, without saying a word. A blank expression capped the volcano inside. Barely.
āHere. I hardly use my blanket anyways. Iāll get more from the laundry in the morning.ā Sara gave the sister her sheet. Neena turned to Nika.
"Is that what's been happening to you?" Her low voice came out as a growl, a tone fairly out of character for the passive woman. She roll off of her bunk, and pulled out the plug of fabric from her mattress, and began pulling out various items. Toward the back was a little square device. She pulled it out, and slipped the mini-warmer into the covers between the two Lupine sisters. Warmth of body always good with warmth of heart.
"From Michael," she told them. "He sends 'warm fuzzy thoughts'." She was capping her emotions fairly decently.
Until Mr. Personality Defunct himself walked in.
In the growing darkness, even with one black eye, Neena's almost-white eyes pulsed with fire. A vein twitched on the side of her temple, as she clenched her teeth. And for a woman who wasn't exactly muscular before coming into the Camps, the muscle in her arms stood out in relief as she clenched her fists.
Then, all at once, it faded away. Her easy smile returned, and she relaxed her body. She scooted around the back side of the bunks, and ambled easily down the way, until she reached the front of the Barracks. She slipped out, putting herself between James and the door. She shut it quietly, turned, and leaned against it, arms crossed, and gaze leveled lazily at him.
"James, you have got to be the sharpest hammer I've ever laid eyes on."
Let him make sense of that one. That is, if he had any left....
Come to think of it, did he have any to begin with?
"No I haven't faded away. I don't think I could ever do that. I'll try to do what I can to make sure others hopes are up. I haven't really been working in any one specific location. Ever since they released me from the infirmary I've been doing a lot of light work. Most of that consisting of doing jobs in the guards barracks."
Neena glanced at the catgirl, her expression bordering on motherly/big sister-like.
" 'Light work'?" she repeated in question form. She didn't add, 'What kind of light work', but the protective intent still came through.
āGuess your bedās the party place tonight," Sara remarked.
Nika added, "Yeah, speaking of parties I still want a slumber party."
And Neena's grin widened a bit. "Glad I took a shower then, for your noses' sakes. That powder was a bit stronger than I thought." Her fingers were actually burning a bit, though nowhere near as bad as some would be. She sat up in the bed, since it appeared that the Sandman would yet again miss his scheduled appearance. Meh, she didn't much like beaches anyway....
āNeena being a teacher kind of explains a few things."
"Well, the students need someone to be a moving target, and no one else volunteered. Can't imagine why?" Neena attempted to look serious, a rather difficult feat since she felt nowhere near it.
"So, Michigan and Boston, eh? Don't you gals get cold up there? All that ice and snow.... brrr!" She shivered. She did not like cold. She'd gotten used to it, but she did not like it at all.... She'd also never been to either state, and didn't actually know what the weather was like.
As Nika bounded onto her bunk, Neena grabbed the side to keep from falling off.
"I don't have hope. I know I'm gonna get out of here especially if we get some help from our friends. I've escaped from being trapped before and I'll do it again. You can definitely count me in."
Neena chuckled a bit at her enthusiasm. It was refreshing.
"Good to hear, m'friend. I was wondering if you'd decided to fade away as well. Hopefully some of that spirit will infect the others," she murmured and looked around, taking a mental head count of those she thought might also want to be in on the fun.
"Which section are you working in now?" she asked Nika idly. You could almost see the gears in her head turning, planning mischief and its consequences.
Neena closed her eyes and chuckled a bit. "What can I say? I'd prefer a dark, damp cellar full of rats than being stuck outside in a stockade at noonday Guess I'm a bit of a night owl." She sighed. "Plus its refreshingly guard- and Stalker-free."
āSpeaking of long vacations, thereās talk rumors of a resistance.ā Yes, Doug had mentioned that. Neena felt the bunk shift as Sara stood. āIf the time comes is there a plan?ā
Neena opened her unswollen eye to look at Sara.
"Not that I know of specifically. I think everyone's been finding surviving enough of a problem. To be honest, I think the majority have lost hope. Still...."Her voice lowered, more from thought than trying to be stealthy. ".... maybe a plan would help them find it again...."
She chewed on her lip thoughtfully. The camp inmates would be next to useless in a break. For the most part they were weak, battered and tired. They had no mutations at their disposal, and were collared like animals. Even if the human guards could be overwhelmed and the shock collars, the Stalkers were still a threat.
If only they could find a way to disable the collars.....
Neena rubbed her good eye. She was exhausted, and was finding it hard to think clearly. She knew something was wrong with her, something more than lack of food and rest, and being overworked. They were doing something else to them, to all of the mutants.
"Um, a plan would be a good idea." She sighed, trying to focus. "Maybe we need to find out who still has hope of getting out, to start with. They'll be able to help with a plan best, for the moment. I'll see if I can get Shield to find out anyone on his side. You want to take the girls?"
āStill am.ā Neena wasn't sure, but Sara didn't sound happy to admit that. She shrugged.
"Meh. Old habits die hard, as the saying goes. Seems it's always hard to get sticky fingers clean." She held up one hand, inspecting it curiously.
āHe met with me as well. He didnāt say anything about who was sending him, but he did tell me the same thing about being here to help.ā
"Well, at least he's consistent." She scratched at her cuticles idly. Her nails had grown brittle from work. Maybe a trip to the spa after this would be a good idea. Or maybe she could bug Doug for a manicure bath. Did that qualify as a necessity?
āThereās always the possibility of wanting more PR.ā
Neena huffed. "PR. Right. Fancy speak for Double-talk and hogwash."
She'd snuck a swallow of painkillers in with her shower, but it would be an hour before it began to chip away at the headache taking over her skull. She leaned back on the pillow and sighed.
"Another long night, and short sleep. Lovely.... Just lovely.... I think I may arrange another vacation here, in a day or so." Neena wondered if anyone was ever going to figure out about her 'planned' trips to Isolation.
āI wasnāt alone, you were right there with me when I tested the food. I couldnāt test any of the medical stuff though. That would have shocked me either way.ā
"I shoulda known...." Neena couldn't help but smile. She wasn't surprised at all that Sara had done the testing; she'd practically announced that she would at the pool. Neena just hadn't expected her to be so quick about it. "Were you a pickpocket in another life?" she quipped.
āTwo points?ā
"Mm hmm. Had a little talk with him a few minutes ago. Seems like a nice enough guy, I guess. Gotta a mean hook though...." She yawned. "Said a mutant with glowing red eyes is making him try to help us, however needed." She thought back over the conversation. "We'll see if he's telling the truth. I hope he is. Otherwise....." She trailed off, knowing she didn't have to elaborate for Sara. Neena wasn't even sure if the feline-featured girl trusted her or not.
She sighed, and yawned again. "Ah, well. Life's full of risks. Can't live if you're scared of your blood."
āHeās big, strong, and scary looking?ā
She rolled over and dropped her head over the side of the bunk, curious.
"I suppose." She wouldn't know about the 'scary-looking' part. "But somehow, it seems to me that would be a reason not to have him as a guard. If he can't use his mutation, like the rest of us, then what good is he as a guard? Not to mention the humans seem not to like the ones with more obvious mutations."
āThanks for washing away the spicy powder stuff.ā
"My pleasure. And since I see you're still alive, I'll return it with, 'thanks for not dying while pretending to be a guinea pig'." Neena blinked at her. "I'll keep your enthusiasm in mind next time." She smiled, to show she wasn't mad. A bit irritated, but not mad, by a long shot. She grunted as she climbed into her bunk. "Well, I guess that makes two points for Doug so far...."
She settled in, laying on her side. "I wonder what's going on with the new one. Dragonman," she wondered aloud in a quiet voice. "Wonder why they have him as a guard?"
She turned her head as Nika entered, concerned about Tricity and Em. She made a mental note to pull the catgirl aside and see how she was holding up. And if there were any other names to add to her 'list'. Come to think of it, she wondered if she could get a list from Sheild. Surely the boys were in need of some subtle payback as well.
Neena finally wandered into the Bunkhouse, much later than she should have. She'd fallen way behind due to the days' events, and the side meeting with Doug. For a moment she'd considered leaving the laundry and taking a beating, along with the usual trip to Isolation, and catching up on her sleep a bit. But then the catch up job would fall to Sara, which wasn't fair to the girl at all. So she'd finished her job, stopped by the shower to rinse off the offending pepper powder from her body and clothes, then returned to the Barracks.
As she passed by Tricity and Emerald, she picked up Em's question.
"Tricity why are they doing this to us, its not our fault some mutants are stupid enough to attack."
Neena paused. Despite it not being invited into the conversation, she went ahead and added her two cents anyway.
"It doesn't matter who attacks who, or why. The fault lies with the one who hits back." She shrugged. "We just happen to be the ones caught in the crossfire. You just have to learn how to dodge until they'll run out of ammo."
She moved on to her own bunk, looking for either Sara or Shya. She'd uncovered Sara's 'test' of Doug's care package, and wanted to find out the results, and also to share the details of her little chat.
She ignored the fact that her eye was blackening her already dark skin even further, and beginning to swell.
(OOC: So did I Raina, lol My mom cracked up when I asked her about it, when I was little. lol)
Neena listened to Emerald's story, appearing impassive on the outside. She had an idea of which guard the girl was talking about, though she wasn't sure. Yet another name to add to her list of secret sabotauge. Maybe she should put some extra starch in his underwear. Or some some habanero powder. She'd seen that on a shelf in the kitchen once, when delivering dish towels. That out to help out that libido a bit....
Emerald began scratching. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Shya flinch slightly, and also begin scratching. Neena reached out and took Emerald's hand firmly, but gently, to stop her.
"Let the bandages set for an hour, to give the balm a chance to soak in a bit. Then I suggest you take one of the other girls and go take a shower. It might make you feel better." Neena had a strong suspicion that this scratching had something to do with the experience; some of those slices had obviously been placed strategically by a twisted mind.
She turned to Shya and smiled; the girl may have been blind, but Neena felt even she could 'feel' a smile.
Gathering up her supplies, she returned to her bunk and rehid everything. "Are you hanging in there?" she asked Sara, in the bunk below, in a low voice. Raina was nearby as well. "This might help that as well." She pointed to Raina's legs. "You know where it is if you need it."
Sight, mutation-aided or not, was Neena's realm. Very little escaped her notice.
Neena yawned as she strode back to the Barracks. Isolation really wasn't that bad in her opinion. Other than the food, or lack thereof, it was a decent way to catch up on missed sleep. Actually she felt rather refreshed, and hummed quietly as she walked back. With everyone on edge because of the previous night's escape, it was a miracle she made it back to the Barracks without a random guard, taking out his or her anger on the African woman.
Back in the Barracks, Neena missed the dialogue, but there was an odd mix of an atmosphere in the air. Happiness from Ruby that her sister was back. Cynical, yet worried interest from Deathstar. Pain from Cari, and confidence from Shya. She stood in the doorway, looking around for a moment. Then she yawned and stretched.
"Well, look what the cat dragged in. Lose a fight with the razor?" She teased Emerald with an easy smile, but there was no smile in her colorless eyes. As she drew closer, she could see the many cuts on the girl's body. Unless Emerald had issues with self-mutilation, someone else had been practicing surgery on her.
Whistling a bit, Neena moved to her own bunk, and pulled out a small piece of fabric in the side. From inside she pulled a small, square green can, and a roll of bandages. The Bag Balm was one of the larger things that Shrapnel had help her smuggle away in the first days of the camp. The yellow salve did wonders for healing minor cuts and abrasions, and keeping infections out of larger gashes.
She moved over to Emerald, set the items on her bunk and without being given permission, she began applying the salve liberally. Then she added bandages over them. She whistled as she worked. The girl's iron attitude didn't faze her in the least, and she ignored any snaps or growls aimed her way during the process.
"So," she said aloud to the other girls, "did I miss anything exciting today?" As if this life were the only one she'd known.
"your okay!, Now tell us what the hell is going on out there"
Neena massaged her arm, trying to get the tingling to stop. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little shock. Looks like a couple of the boys just managed a prison break of sorts." Perhaps that bit of info would bolster the girls just that much more tonight.
"You have used your mutant ability within the camp. You will now be removed and taken to isolation."
... Or not...
Neena frowned as a pair of Stalkers made a rather loud entrance to the Barracks and zoomed in on her. She moved away from the others in a scuttling motion, but quickly was hauled up and out of the building. She felt like a sack of potatoes the way she was being slung around.
"Hey! Take it easy! Owowow! Ow!" She punched the back of the machine's head, then shook her fist out painfully. She grumbled and cursed in Swahili under her breath the entire way to the little cells.
Neena was only out for a minute or so, since her eyes reverted to normal when she passed out. Thanks to Natalie, when she did finally come around, her vision remained normal, as opposed to the usual scrambled sight she experienced when waking.
"I'm awake, I'm awake," she grumbled as Natalie and Sara tried to rouse her. She found herself sitting upright against the wall. Her arm was numb and tingly, as if it had fallen asleep. She rubbed her wrist irritably. "Stupid contraption.... What happened?"
(OOC: Syncronizing with the Men's Side. Hope this is okay with everyone. If not, let me know.
The sounds of an explosion rang through the Women's barracks. Neena's head snapped up and looked out the window, but it was dark, and this side faced the outer ring fence of the camp. The noise had come from the other side.
Then Men's side.
"Stay here," she ordered without thinking, though she knew full well that very few of the others would listen. "Someone wanna give Shya a dare? No running with sharp objects though."
She walked carefully to the front door and opened it, stepping out into the cold night air. Yells and screams came from the Men's side of the camp, as well as another explosion, but from where she was, Neena couldn't see anything, except a flash of blue every now and then between the buildings. Whatever was happening had all of the guards' focused on the other side, and away from the women.
Looking around, Neena moved around the corner of the building, away from anyone that had followed her outside. She took a deep breath, bracing herself against the wall.
Unlike some, Neena's mutation didn't need to build or gather energy, nor was the process gradual. It could be activated instantly, which meant that the bracelet also reacted instantly. Concentrating, she activated Xray in one eye, and telescopic in the other. Her fist clenched as electricity flowed quickly into her arm, then through the rest of her body, trying to force her mutation into silence.
The two visions melded together, piercing the buildings, and giving her a momentary, close up view of the outer fence on the men's side; Jason skidding to a halt in an effort to avoid a pair of Stalker bots, a figure swooping down to carry him up and out of harm's way.... Was that Shrapnel? Hmm... nice trick. And how were they pulling this off while being cuffed?
Pain in her body dropped her to all fours, and her internal debate was cut short. Just before blacking out she mentally memorized the glowing blue figure still left on the ground.
Then the electricity won out, and Neena slumped to the ground, momentarily unconscious.
"Truth or dare? Can I play with my eyes closed? I'm still playing though...*yawn* I'm not asleep."
Neena nodded with a grin, and put her arm around Ruby's shoulders. "Sure, kiddo. Go right ahead."
Raina joined the group, along with Natalie, but Deathstar refused.
"Sorry!, I'm just not in the mood. Maybe some other time, I just can't see myself enjoying anything while trapped in this hell hole."
"Some other time then." Neena felt sorry for the girl, but there was nothing she could do to make her feel better if she didn't want it. There was a kind person behind the sharp tongue; Neena just hoped the kindness wouldn't be totally buried by the end of this mess.
"You don't *yawn* have to be such a jerk about it, we are just trying not to let these humans break our spirits tottaly."
"Shya, want to start it off?"
While she waited for the blind girl to start, she whispered to Natalie. "You going to be okay?" She saw the leg was healed, so her question referred more to emotionally. She reached out with her free hand to squeeze Raina's hand. "You too?"
They were all tired, but Raina was carrying around a heavier burden then most of the others, and couldn't talk about it. But for that moment, Neena felt that they all needed a dose of normality, so she didn't ask for any specifics. Specifics could wait till morning.
āIād like to join this little party as well. And I call dare.ā
Well, it seemed that Ruby, Neena and Nika weren't the only restless ones. There was going to be a group of really sleepy mutants wandering around in the morning. But she wondered how many would be a tad bit more.... uplifted? Her grin widened, and she scooted closer to Ruby to make room for the new arrivals. Over the top of Nika's head she could see Sara sitting up in her bunk, but she didn't come over. Neena had gotten to know the feline-featured girl through work, and she knew there was a lovely personality underneath that shyness. Maybe eventually she would open up to the others as well. Neena hoped. Friendship was a lifeline these days.
Neena glanced over in Raina and Deathstar's direction. Her gaze and a raised hand, asked if they wanted to join as well.
