The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Yes, I'm terrified." Persi was also maintaining an entirely deadpan expression. "Now, just what am I terrified of?"
And the guy was circling him. What did he think he was, a shark? Sharks did not have pink hair, for one thing. Or... well, actually, apparently they did have Australian accents. Persi resisted the urge to ask if the guy had any fish friends. That was too easy to interpret as friendly, and also pretty irrelevant. Could be convenient though. The guy did need a name; Bruce would work.
So newly designated Bruce was circling Persi and criticizing him. Like that was new. And trying to intimidate him, or threaten him or guilt him or something. Whatever Bruce was attempting, it wasn't very effective. Persi folded his arms. "What a tragedy."
...Ow. Persi blinked while his eyes cleared. Turned out his head could make a surprisingly loud thunk on the ground. Also, Bruce was firmly amended to Brute. Once Brute's comments filtered in, Persi folded his arms again, stayed firmly on the ground, and glared. He could mostly see clearly again, so at least he was sure he was glaring at Brute. That made him feel slightly better while his head quit throbbing.

"Oh." That... was more than Persi had hoped. By a lot. He'd hoped that there was one, maybe two other explosion-type mutants here. Apparently there were something a bit closer to ten or twenty, going by the 'a lot.' And Persi now had to watch out for random explosions at all times. Suddenly the hedge seemed safer. "Are they all able to... make explosions that strong?"
That made sense. Persi's ears were ringing a bit, but he'd been significantly farther from the explosion than Kaitlyn had, plus had a few distractions. As long as she was alright, though, Persi would focus his worrying on the next explosion that was apparently going to happen eventually. He got to the lowest branch, sat, and slid off; the landing shocked his shins a bit, but was pretty easy. Thankfully; Persi wasn't sure how he'd deal with falling now, when he was intentionally getting out of the tree, immediately after having managed not to fall when knocked out of it by an explosion. The irony of that would just be a little too cruel.
"So...." Persi eyed the trash can. "Should we leave before it explodes again?"

"You don't need to lie, just let them assume. Or not care, a lot of teachers don't even know if you're there or not." That one, Persi had experienced. It was typically followed by 'so that's why class seemed so cheerful!' and Persi doing his best to make the following class as uncheerful as possible. That wasn't what his mutation happened to be good for, though, so he was mostly limited to sitting and glaring, and refusing to raise his hand when he knew the answer to a question. It didn't seem to have much effect. Though he had managed to stick random phrases in the minds of the teachers who did that, which occasionally resulted in some amusement for him when they lost track of what they were saying and mixed words up. And, more rarely but even better, when they got annoyed at whatever was stuck being stuck and complained about it.
"Addition works for profit, and I don't need to plan intersecting trains or whatever." Persi felt perfectly justified in making a face at it. "And my English classes have been for years. Or why this character is actually the church and the other one is actually a Queen and the story is actually an essay on proper morals. They stopped any of the how to communicate stuff a while ago."
That... earned another face, but this one was confused and blinking. Persi seemed to be doing that a lot recently. "You... know I was joking, right? Trees wouldn't be... actually I think they were growing some inside some school I heard about, in the hallways... it seemed really stupid though."

Persi shrugged. "Probably. And why not? Just say you're sick. Most of the time they'll just assume you are anyway and not even ask." At least, so he had been informed about a variety of schools. He hadn't actually tested it, since there was nowhere decent to hide in or around his school, and he couldn't stay home without actually being sick. But it made sense.
"Yeah, but I've learned the basic stuff. Calculus isn't any use, I'm going to be an artist. And dissecting old stories definitely isn't any use. They ran out of useful things to teach already." Persi shrugged. "It's only useful if you're going to go major in it, and I'm not, so there's no reason for me to go. I can learn art better from books and practice with all my time to spend on it than I can with most of my time on useless stuff."
And as for middle school... well, actually, Persi hadn't thought about whether most things were useful or not in middle school. He'd just been stuck there; something being useful wouldn't make him any more tolerant of it at the time. When he tried to think about it, though.... "Some of it. English wasn't, but who's ever going to need to write sonnets?"
...Okay, so either Aiden was back to disliking him, or he had a secret sarcastic streak. Either way, Persi nodded solemnly. "Yeah, turns out there aren't any inside. You'd think they'd at least grow them in the gym."

"Well, no one's told me I have classes yet, or where or when they are, so they can't be that bothered by it." Of course, the recently ended riots could have something to do with that, but still. They hadn't told him; that was their problem.
"Anyway, what would I actually learn that's any use? Have you ever learned anything useful from gym? Like, elementary school was useful, and maybe middle school, but now all they're doing is teaching up how to look fancy for colleges, and I'm not going to college. So they're not teaching anything that's worth anything for me." Except for art classes, but frankly, even that was just practice and critique. Some books of techniques or suggested projects, or the same things on the internet, and Persi would do just as well as in an art class. Better, even, since he'd be able to spend all his time on it, instead of wasting most of his time with symbolic books and dates and math.
"Anyway, it's been months since I got to climb trees." Except for the ones when he'd been kicked out, but he was kind of trying to ignore those. Well, and the one when the trash can exploded.... Alright, so he'd gotten to climb trees fairly recently, but it still wasn't nearly enough. "That sounds much more fun."

Persi... had not thought about class. Or about being seen in general, really. As demonstrated by his lack of an explanation. Yeah, he hoped it washed off. "It ought to. It's one of those kids' washable markers they make for kindergarten." Not that those ever cleaned up as easily as they were supposed to, of course, but they were supposed to wipe off with a paper towel, so that still left a lot of room for easy removal.
Maybe. And maybe art was not a good subject to keep talking about. Just possibly, like most things that made peoples' hands shake. Moving on, then.
"Um...." Persi didn't have a clock either. The only one he'd had was his phone, and that had run out of batteries before he even got to the Mansion, and not been charged since. It seemed safer to keep it that way, anyway. There had been one in the bathroom though, so considering how long it'd taken him to get out here.... "Maybe about twelve fifteen? Something like that. I'm not going to class, though." Climbing trees sounded nice. And distinctly lacking in people, which helped with the 'nice' part. Besides, if Persi had classes, no one had told him yet. "How much longer do they go, like a week? No one's teaching anything this close to the end of the year anyway." Persi didn't need to take these classes to know that; it was true of all the classes he'd ever taken. Even art classes aimed to be finished with official projects by now, since no one was ever done on time, and anyone who did finish was generally happy to think up another project of their own to fill the time. Free art supplies, and all.

"Who else explodes things?" Persi hoped that was a rare mutation. Mutations in general were scary too, really, but explosions... he'd rather those be limited, thanks. Even if it meant replacing them with something else.
Like that. That was useful. As long as the guy didn't try picking him up and moving him around like that, Persi would be happy.
"Yeah. Maybe kind of bruised, but that's okay. I used to fall out of trees a lot." Now, of course, he still fell, he just caught himself on the tree instead of the ground. Falling later, from higher points in the tree, helped with that. Persi idly tested the arm he'd caught himself with; the shoulder was still sensitive enough to be aware of, but not enough to really hurt.
Now... a dilemma. Did Persi feel like staying in the tree he could be knocked out of, or going to the ground closer to the possible source of more explosions? Hm. Well, Kaitlyn didn't look very hurt, so Persi began climbing down to the lowest set of branches. "Are you alright?"

Persi had been expecting something more like being dragged outside by his arm, not being carried, so that was annoying. The laughter... was also annoying, but pretty expected, and not exactly new. Really, it was just like being back in school. Especially gym class. Which was probably the point, after all.
That didn't stop him from glaring when he was set down, and doing the worst, most general imitation of what he remembered he could manage. Only with his arms though; his feet stayed put where they landed.
Okay, that was cheating. Persi glared after the kid who'd brought out his sketchbook, and made a note to find out who it was so he could hate them. For the moment... well, there was no way he was ever going to actually please the guy. Maybe if Persi had been an Olympic athlete, he could be impressive enough to get past the guy hating him. Back in reality, however, Persi was pretty sure that Olympic athletes got all their talent by draining it from him. And maybe other unfortunate people, but mostly him. It was the only way to explain just how much he sucked at this sort of thing.
Okay, so he wasn't getting the sketchbook back. Damn the guy, but Persi couldn't really fix it, so. No sketchbook. Fortunately he was pretty sure he could just go get another. Possibly several more, so one could be his real sketchbook and he could hide it, and the others would be decoys for the guy to steal. He'd have to draw in them some for that to work, but he could manage that.
They'd see just how good this guy was at finding him. Persi could be very good at hiding. He'd be guaranteed to get in trouble, of course, but it would also annoy the guy. And as for the last thing.... "No, not really." What in hell was a danger room, and why was it in what everyone kept telling him was a school? Because seriously, Persi had been joking about a scifi Hogwarts. He really was not going to be pleased if that turned out to be any more accurate a description than it already seemed to be. Not that he was pleased now.... "Is it also forbidden and on the third floor? I'm pretty sure the point of that sort of thing is that I'm not allowed there."

"Relatively, yes." Persi was a few more branches up the tree by the time Kaitlyn called him, sitting sideways on a branch. He could still see the basketball game between the leaves, but it felt a bit distant now, and as a result was interesting to watch, rather than painful. Trees generally seemed to make life easier that way, really. "It's quite pleasant." ...Assuming Scotty wasn't able to attack him from the trees, too. Persi eyed the leaves surrounding him with sudden caution. They looked safe enough.
"S***!" Leaf guy may or may not have done anything, but something certainly happened. Persi tipped backwards, whether from a shockwave or pure surprise he didn't know, hit a shoulder against a branch behind and slightly below the one he was sitting on, and managed to grab it. Ow. Peaceful trees might be, but they could still hit pretty hard. And his weight could pull pretty hard on his shoulder, too. The catch prevented him from falling headfirst into the ground, fortunately, but did leave him hanging by his knees from one branch and elbow from another. It was a slightly awkward position.
It took a moment for him to haul himself into something resembling a mutated chinup on the branch he'd caught, and get his legs off the one he'd been sitting on. That done he lowered himself to sit on a lower branch, and kept a very firm grip on another one while he peered down at the basketball court--confused, apparently, but undisturbed apart from the garbage scattered on part of it--the trash can--could probably be safely called demolished--and Kaitlyn. That... looked a lot like an explosion. "Did you do that?"

"Everyone knows that one." Mostly for being so sappy everyone started giggling upon hearing it, but everyone knew it. And the lyrics were a conversation, which would be much easier than trying to turn a regular song for one person into one for two.... "Sure." Jude could sing whatever part he wanted. It wasn't like one was less embarrassing than the other.
Persi stared at the jazz hands suggestion. Then blinked, looked down at what they were singing, and shrugged. "Sure. It's not like we can be more embarrassed. Basically the only chance we have to win is to be so shameless they forget everyone else, anyway." Put into that context, jazz hands actually sounded kind of restrained. "Can you think of anything more ridiculous?" Persi generally tried to not draw attention or publicly embarrass himself, but considering Jude was willing to drag someone completely random and possibly half his age onto a stage and claim to date them, Persi was guessing Jude was a lot more shameless than he was.
The offered hand got a similar response. Persi stared, then sighed and took it. He couldn't be more embarrassed....
...You know, except when a few minutes later they were on the stage, and people were staring at him. That was a bit embarrassing. Whatever, though; it didn't matter. He didn't know any of them, and they didn't matter. He repeated that to himself while the song started. And, because why not at this point, leaned toward Jude when he started singing. "Beneath the stars, the world has changed, but in the sky, it's still the same. Ages come, they pass and die, but we're all beneath the same dark sky."

"Well whoever you got that clover from, you should demand a refund." Self awareness was not Persi's best talent. He was not, however, so oblivious as to think he wouldn't do everything he could to make this miserable for the guy. Just doing his job or not; Persi didn't want him doing it. And if he was going to be miserable, so was the cause.
Funny thing about public humiliation, it only worked if the person under threat of humiliation didn't already feel humiliated, cared about the opinions of the people around him, believed they wouldn't be humiliated anyway if they cooperated, and wasn't stubborn or angry enough to accept the humiliation. None of those were true of Persi. Humiliation had been lurking in his mind for weeks in quantity, and for years in lesser amounts. He'd spent at least that many years insisting that he did not care what anyone else thought. If remedial gym earned humiliation, it wasn't like being in remedial gym willingly would keep people from seeing or recognizing it; fighting might even point out to them that he was in it because he'd skipped not, because he'd failed. And he wasn't sure he had skipped, anyway, and even if he had, didn't see a point to being sent to class for a week when he'd just been kicked out and definitely was still too thrown off to learn anything, so humiliation or not, he was going to make this as miserable as possible for everyone around. He stayed in his seat, folded his arms, and let his expression dare the guy to make him move.
The dare would be taken, he was sure. And he would resist the whole way to wherever remedial gym was. If the guy wanted to humiliate him, that was too bad; Persi didn't care.

"Oh." Well that was disappointing. Persi had really liked the idea of not going to school. He supposed he could always just skip; it wasn't like it was going to matter either way. For one thing, he was a mutant now (well, known to be one, which was the part that mattered), and for another, he wanted to be an artist. What degrees you had really didn't matter either way for that. So art classes were good for ideas and practice, but otherwise, school was a waste of time.
They ended up stopping by a basketball court. It took a second for Persi to figure out what was going on and be able to keep track well enough to get any sense out of it, but once he could it was impressive. And... kind of like nostaligia, only instead of reaching back for a really nice old memory, it was reaching back to a painful old hole. Persi had never been athletic, he didn't want to be anymore. That didn't make watching what he couldn't do a whole lot easier, or remembering how he'd felt when he had still been trying to be as good as Ace.
...Well sports were stupid anyway. They were fun, but they didn't achieve anything. And if he didn't have fun there wasn't even that to make them worthwhile. So it didn't matter. Persi looked away, and could see trees nearby. The forest was a bit far, though visible, but there were nice maple trees nearby, and he could probably reach the branches of the nearest one. He wandered over, kicked his shoes and socks off, and began climbing. That required a jump to get ahold of the first branch, which was always annoying, but he managed.

Persi really needed to learn how to remember voices better so he could recognize them. At this point, he was learning that basically any voice was ominous, unless it was Aiden or Andrea. And he was pretty sure they could be ominous too, if they wanted. Aiden definitely could. Andrea... well, she had snakes for hair; that was a pretty good start to being ominous, if she ever wanted to. And Kaitlyn... yeah, the girl could throw explosions around; that was ominous. This particular voice he didn't recognize, but it was clearly trying to sound ominous. Also, was speaking to him. Both were good reasons to be worried.
Oh. Yeah, that was as good a source as any for ominous. Persi gave the guy a half bored, half irritated glare once he got around to standing where Persi could see him. "Busy. Come back later."
His opinion had no effect, as Persi had expected. Oh well. "Last semester? I've been here like, two weeks. Also, how about no?" The pencils were set down, and the sketchbook had been on the table next to the chair anyway, so they were safe while Persi folded his arms and frowned at the guy. Persi had no doubt that the guy would be dragging him wherever he felt like anyway, but he still wasn't going to agree to it.
"I don't much like school in general. I'm sure you understand that." Considering how much the guy liked saying that Persi was just like him only with everything wrong, he'd better. "If you're nearly as like me as you seem to enjoy claiming, at least."

That wasn't a reassuring silence. Or a reassuring smirk. Sure, Persi hadn't expected reassurance, but still.
"That... would be useful." Would have been useful, too, if he'd known about it. And maybe he could have avoided being grabbed by a hedge. That would have been really nice. "Why no kids, though? If they don't make you go to class...." Persi was pretty willing to consider a lot of things if it got him out of class.

"Oh." Yeah, he... had probably better explain that, somehow. "It's basically a superhero from a comic in middle school. I think it might have been something someone in my school drew. I remembered it and I was bored, so...." He shrugged. "It should wash off in the shower." Maybe two showers. But it was a washable marker, so not many. And that was... kind of a stupid excuse, but it was the best he could think of.
...That was an extreme reaction to asking if someone drew. Not that Persi hadn't wanted to react like that sometimes, but he generally refrained from actually doing so. At least that blatantly. "Uh... I guess that's a yes?"
That was also probably a demand for a new topic. Persi shifted where he was standing as he tried to think of something. "You... know lunch is almost over, right?" Probably, but it was all he could think of for now. He really needed to be able to think better....
