The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The boy said that the woman Lizzy identified was indeed his mother. Lizzy felt relieved that he wouldn’t be lost, and no one would have to be in a panic. Although Lizzy was no mother, she could imagine that his mother would be terrified to lose him. She had watched those crime shows, and the parents were so sad to watch.
The boy said an awkward “nice meeting you”, and went to his mother. Lizzy thought about following him, but she didn’t want to traumatize him anymore. He had already said that Lizzy’d tell on him, and although she wouldn’t, Lizzy decided to stay back. She held onto her guitar and watched him go off. “It was nice to meet you too. Don’t lose your mom again.” She added as a warning. Hopefully he wouldn’t go wandering off again. Next time there might not be another person to help locate her.
Hey y'all. Sorry for falling off the face of the planet. This semester has just been so busy and stressful. I finally posted again today, and it felt really good to be writing again. I don't know how consistent it'll be. Christmas break is just around the corner, which means I'll either have a lot of free time or no free time at all. So as a note for those who are threading with me, I'll get to it eventually, just who knows when that is. Today was a nice step in the right direction though.
Lizzy just sat there and heard an accented voice ask if she were alright. Not even turning toward the stranger, Lizzy gruffly said, “Yeah, I am.” About a second after saying that, Lizzy realized how rude she must sound and regretted her tone immediately. The stranger was probably just trying to be nice. Lizzy knew she must look like a wreck right now, but her mind felt split in two. She was just… confused.
“Wait,” Lizzy called to the stranger, still not turning around to face her. “No, I’m not alright. It’s just…” She wasn’t exactly sure how to phrase having such a weird, realistic dream… or was it a dream? How would a stranger react to hearing all this craziness about the end of the world and struggling for survival while eating off rats? Probably lock her up in a mental institution, Lizzy assumed.
“Have you ever had one of those dreams that make you question reality?” Lizzy innocently asked the stranger. Lizzy never turned to the stranger, but kept her eyes straight ahead, staring at the grass.
Lizzy’s eyes fluttered open as she awoke to the sound of her phone/alarm buzzing uncontrollably. Her hand flew over to it to shut it off. It took a moment for her to collect her thoughts for the moment, but soon enough she bounced out of bed and got ready for the morning. She had chosen a nice pair of jeans with a black and white striped blouse to wear that day.
She went to the kitchen and rinsed an apple in the sink. When she looked down in the sink, she saw a dirty knife. A thought burst into her head, and she dropped her apple. It bounced off the counter and rolled onto the ground. Lizzy made no attempt to stop it. She remembered.
She remembered a man attacked her with a knife and she screamed her high-pitched scream before killing him. She remembered another person – a girl – who showed her kindness with the simple gift of food. She remembered eating rats and how desperate she was for food. Last of all, she remembered crying out for her parents, and the devastation of knowing they were somewhere under the rubble of her old apartment – no, this apartment.
She remembered everything.
Lizzy whispered, “Melody.”
A sudden anger rose out of her and she hastily went to retrieve a jacket from her closet. In there she saw a navy sweatshirt – no, the navy sweatshirt from whatever dream or future or whatnot that was. Lizzy angrily ripped the sweatshirt off the hanger and threw it across the room. It hit her lamp, which knocked over and broke on the ground. She looked at it and screamed. It wasn’t her normal scream though, it was her high-pitched the scream – the one that made people writhe in pain.
It didn’t go on for very long because she realized what she was doing. She would deal with her mess later. Now, she just needed to get out and clear her head. Lizzy retrieved a black cotton jacket from her closet and left the apartment. She just needed to leave.
Lizzy began walking down the street, and as she looked down one alley, she saw a rat squirming. It reminded her of the hunger she felt, and how desperate she was for food. This reminder brought her anger up again, and she stomped down the street.
Looking for some place to just seethe, she trudged along until she some little park. Lizzy wasn’t exactly sure where she was, but the grass just looked comfortable and it called to her. She walked over there, parked her butt on a grassy hill underneath a tree and just sat there in some attempt to process what was going on.
Looking up at the sky, she began to talk to herself, “What is going on with you, Lizzy? Or am I Melody?” Eventually, she found herself screaming to herself, “What is going on?!” Her scream was a tad bit loud and a part of her thought that someone probably heard her and would be looking at her odd. Then she remembered, she didn’t care.
Melody took the crackers and dried fruit from the stranger. She was still a little wary. As she turned the crackers over in her hands, she muttered, “I don’t even recall the taste of these.” She decided to save the fruit for later as she stuffed it in her pocket.
Opening the crackers was like opening a present on Christmas. Her face lighted up as she took in the smell. Maybe to a person before the explosion, the smell wouldn’t be that noticeable, but to someone who hasn’t experienced actual food for so long, it was heaven. Melody pulled out one cracker and put it in her mouth, savoring the taste. Something happened that hadn’t in a long time; there was a fraction of a smile across her face as she closed her eyes just to commit the cracker to memory.
After the cracker came another, and then another, until she had devoured half a bag. Melody told herself to save half the bag. It would be something to feast on later – maybe with some rat to go with it before. She gently put it in a pocket with the dried fruit.
“Thank you,” Melody told the girl, “I still don’t completely understand why, and I probably never will, but thank you.”
Sorry for late response! Like I said, I'm getting busier because of school starting. I'm open for anything honestly. I'd kind of like to do another AoS thread but that's not necessary/
Hi.... I know I've been missing for a bit, but.... I have room for a thread right now. There might be gaps between my posting because classes start up and who knows what my schedule will look like but... I would love to thread with someone! ...please?
Missy Lizzy Calver, if you didn't know, plays the guitar in the subway but can be found all over New York as she likes to take walks from time to time.
I'm sorry y'all. I know I've been gone for a while... well like a month now. Maybe? I'm not sure exactly. Feels like a while though. I don't know how often I'll be able to post now either since classes start Wednesday but I will seriously try to post! Sorry if there are and have been large gaps between posts though!!
Melody turned toward the girl and saw her holding out a pack of crackers and a bag of dried fruit. Quickly in her mind she thought about whether it could be poisoned or not, but she decided that she didn’t care at the moment. Something other than rats? Something actually baked? It felt almost too good to be true to see.
She approached her and almost took then food but then asked, “Are you… sure? That’s like food from before…” How could this stranger be living so nicely that she had food – real food? And how could she afford to give it away? It looked so much better than the rat Melody just killed, but she was unsure how her body would react to real food.
The breeze picked up again and Lizzy closed her eyes again to feel the wind on her face. Then, her phone rang. It was a little embarrassing of a ringtone because it was the beginning of “The Circle of Life”. With a sheepish smile, she dug her phone out of her pocket to see it was a text from her mother. It read, When will you be home? I need you to get milk and eggs.
She glanced at the time and realized it had been several hours at the park. It was a lot later than she assumed it was. Looking at Teddy she said, “I’m really sorry but I gotta jet. My mom needs me to swing by the store for some things before I head home.” She put her guitar back in its case and stood up. “It was really nice meeting you, Teddy. Maybe we’ll run into each other in the subway sometime.”
Nice white blouse; black pants; sunglasses. Shouldn’t be too hard, Lizzy thought to herself. Her five-foot-ten stature tried to look through the crowd for any sign of some woman who fit the description. Lizzy was looking for a white woman, but luckily the boy mentioned that she had darker skin and black hair. She thought to herself that the boy must be adopted. He didn’t look half black, but that was her opinion. Who knows what the reality is?
The flood of people was crazy to try to pinpoint one person from it. White was such a common shirt color that it didn’t help the situation. Then, Lizzy spied a woman who could possibly fit the description the boy gave her. The woman had her back toward Lizzy and was wearing what looked to be a nice whitish shirt and some nice dark slacks. She couldn’t really tell if she had sunglasses or not. “Is that her way over there? By the column?” she asked the boy as she pointed to the general direction of the possible woman.
Moving on was such a difficult thing. It was what Melody had been craving for two years now, but it was something that evaded her until today. The difference between moving on back in the lighter times and moving on today was that no one was there to help her move on. She was all by her lonesome self without anyone to talk to.
“I – I didn’t think it would be possible to get on with my life. For so long I had been fighting it,” Melody confided in the stranger, “Maybe I just needed someone to ask the right question for me to let it go. I’m not sure if that makes any sense.” Why did she feel safe? It was strange to feel this because for so long she hadn’t felt any kindness, any comfort, but this random woman who Melody considered killing earlier made Melody feel the safest she had felt in a long time.
Melody stared around at the rubble around her. Her eyes lingered on the bloodstained patches. That’s when Melody saw it. A rat slithered out and stopped on the blood furthest away from the two of them. This crying and emotional purge had made Melody even hungrier than before.
Staring at the rat with hungry eyes, Melody automatically stood up, and took a couple steps toward the rat. Keeping her eyes on her prey Melody told the stranger, “You probably want to cover your ears again.” After giving the archer enough time to cover her ears, Melody focused on the high clink of glasses, took a deep breath, and screamed.
The rat over yonder began to twitch in pain. Melody quickly walked over to it and grabbed it in her hands. She stopped her high-pitched scream and quickly snapped the rat’s neck. There would be dinner tonight. Hesitantly, Melody looked back over to the brunette. She was unsure how the stranger would react to her choice of hunting.
Hey y'all sorry I vanished this past weekend or so. I got caught up watching the Olympics and celebrating my birthday, but I'm back now and those who have posted for me, I will try to get done over the next day or so!
She did it now. She completely blew it. She scared him into being a nervous guy. And before he was so calm even with everything she did to him! Poor guy. She made him blush like a tomato and stammer rather nervously. Maybe it would have been better if she never mentioned the part where she thought he was cute. Or maybe it would have been better if she just admired him from afar instead of deciding I’m gonna mimic this cute stranger.
Lizzy was so terrible with guys and maybe too blunt that flirting didn’t exactly work. It’s not really flirting if she just came out and mentioned that she found him attractive… or was it? There wasn’t a whole lot of experience in the flirting department either when it came to talking about Lizzy.
She barely made out that his name was Rook through his stammering. In a way, she thought it was kind of cute, but she began blushing a little more because she felt awkward and so sorry for him. “It’s nice to meet you, Rook,” she said to him while her eyes glanced around the park every few seconds.
“Maybe it would be better if I just go. I’m so sorry. I should not have been so blunt. I–I– just – I’m – oh gosh – I’m just really bad at flirting. I know. Let me just get out of your hair and we can forget about this incident.” Lizzy turned her back toward him as she cursed inwardly at herself. Why did she have to be so bad dealing with guys? Maybe it really would be better if she just left poor Rook here alone. She began to walk away without daring to take one last look. She had completely screwed things up, and although she secretly hoped that he might still want to chat with her, she knew she had just embarrassed herself beyond all reckoning.
